In this very 13th century a different kind of music knowledge returned to Europe via the arabian tradition of aristotelism. Even earlier Guido of Arezzo in his theory of intervals already had told another story than just old pythagorean theory, although he strongly had to refer to Boethius and Plato. But the aristotle-aristoxenos line of music thinking had been definitely found already in micrologus and now strong again in the secundum magis et minor principle: listen to what humans are singing!
