I think religion played a role, by no means THE culprit, but a factor. Like Matt Dillahunty said, if you take somebody with schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or other psycholgical problems (quite often associated with delusions), the last thing they need is delusions and fantasy. For most people, staying in reality is highly recommended. For the mentally unstable, it's a necessity.

Most of the reason for the crime was pure selfishness, brought about by a defense mechanism. Which I don't think had to do with lonliness at all. The reason he was lonely is due to a mental problem. Humans are social animals. We rely on each other so much. If we have psychological problems which inhibit our ability to establish relationships with people we tend to go insane. Can you imagine living your life with no one around for the rest of your life? Some people feel that way because they have no friends.
This is a cautionary tale. The sad part is that Tony was in dire need of help and didn't recieve it in time. I think people compartmentalize him and limit their understanding. Unfortunately, people are free to create alter egos online which makes them appear to be well adjusted but their actual state of mind is far more disturbing. I can understand, being a depressed and lonely kid as I was that it's easy to fall into a "siege mentality" where you perceive things that are different as a possible threat. I think religion played a role, by no means THE culprit, but a factor. Like Matt Dillahunty said, if you take somebody with schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or other psycholgical problems (quite often associated with delusions), the last thing they need is delusions and fantasy. For most people, staying in reality is highly recommended. For the mentally unstable, it's a necessity.

Most of the reason for the crime was pure selfishness, brought about by a defense mechanism. Which I don't think had to do with lonliness at all. The reason he was lonely is due to a mental problem. It was a result of his psychological problems that he couldn't establish meaningful relationships with people. Due to that, his condition worsened, it didn't get better. It got worse. You constantly harp on the fact that he had mental problems. I have repeatedly stated that he does indeed have such problems.

i disagree that these men are lonely & dateless b/c of psychological problems. Plenty of men AND women are lonely and some just can't find a date... esp women. its hard out there for women to find a good decent date but most lonely dateless people don't go around blowing innocent people away w/guns! U make it seem as tho they're lonely & dateless due to of psychological problems but trust me, they would still be mental ill if they were dating b/c it's a mental issue not social issue.

No, you are missing my point. These men (Cho, and Tony) in particular are lonely and dateless because of psychological problems. I don't think all men that have psychological problems are dateless or that all dateless men have psychological problems. Furthermore, I'm only talking about men, not women. I disagree. I think it's a combination of many factors, including psychological and social. How do you know they would still be "mental" if they were dating? Where's your evidence?

Is it because of money? Don't have to be rich to get a date or friends for that matter. That leaves only one option, psychological problems on their part. Yes, excessive shyness is a psychological problem. Social inhibitions that keep you from socializing, or making friends are psychological problems.

you sound very smart but the bottom line to all of this is that Tony had mental issues, he was off in the head. This whole " im so lonely and i cant get a woman" kick is starting to really irk me. Tony's story sounds just like that other crazy man, George Sodini who walked into a dance class and killed women because he couldnt find a date. These men are sick & mental and the fact they're lonely and cant get a date has nothing to do with it.

They are lonely and can't get a date because of psychological problems. "Sick and mental" are just pejorative names to describe these people since they killed others. But we only call them "sick and mental" AFTER they have killed people, not before. If someone seeks help because they have problems, we don't just say "You're sick and mental, go home". It's not really helpful in understanding why these men did what they did or helping people like them.

This is a cautionary tale. The sad part is that Tony was in dire need of help and didn't recieve it in time. I think people compartmentalize him and limit their understanding. Unfortunately, people are free to create alter egos online which makes them appear to be well adjusted but their actual state of mind is far more disturbing. I comment on a lot of issues but I've learned to put it down when I need to and take a break but for others this is the sum of their lives. very dangerous combination

I can understand, being a depressed and lonely kid as I was that it's easy to fall into a "siege mentality" where you perceive things that are different as a possible threat. I always felt that had things been a little different, It could have very well been me that did something like Tony did. I'm just glad I was presented with opportunities to change myself around. It's tragic that Tony didn't get the help he needed.

Suppose he killed somebody close to you, it'd be rather sick and inappropriate to sympathise with his problems and say he was funny.. The most significant thing, is that the guy is an evil monster. So why is it not fair to blame religion? When similar cases pop up where ever the first thing many ppl say is "I don't think its fair to blame religion". Religion IS to blame regardless what anyone has to say. You can see from his past videos that he was clearly under strong influence from religion. Maybe Asia was an Atheist or not, i don't know.
