Stephane Grapelli died in '97 aged 89 and played almost to the end. He was a true violin virtuoso. He also played saxophone, the accordion and the piano which he referred to as, 'my other love'. Words alone barely describe his greatness on the violin. He started playing as a 12 year old but his most famous period was when he formed with Django Reinhardt, The Quintet of The Hot Club of France,'34 to '39, the year when they disbanded. For a period, greatness was in our midst.
@TheSniped21 --- I had a learner fiddle that whined when I played it. One of the bluegrass/old-time great fiddlers - Art Stamper - took it from my hands and produced heavenly music from it.
It takes a "lot" of character to continue as we become older. In his obious state, but continuing to remember him over the years, this has to be one of his finest performances.
what is this shit......... its FUCKIN AWESOME

The second piece is so awesome! Stephane has a sound in his violin that just really stands out. I wonder what type of violin it was

@TheSniped21 It's not the violin, it him!

@netenute True a bit of both though he can't play like this on a crappy suzuki violin though it would still sound quite amazing
