..wholesome society LOVES a good talented black man but we usually DO "whip it out & stick it in y' face'' when onstage so he's saying that in fear of freaking society out, the black talent has to APPEAR as though they are no SEXUAL threat.
Think about ALL the tv shows where there's that ONE black guy in the cast, but they'll never give him ANYTHING but the guest starring black girl that cameos that week, otherwise, his NATURAL mojo remains disabled...
..remember how Urkel finally cloned himself as Stefan Urkell? Remember how on Diff'rent Strokes, those two black boys were living in that apt w/ daddy & daughter Drummond? They disabled Willis' mojo until Charlene. Sorta like Jack Tripper's having to let his landlord think he's gay so that he may KEEP living w/ Janet & Chrissy- "its ok, he's GAY".
Heck, look up that Rebbecca Black video & explain wth THAT black guy's context is to all those kids. It all calls for a study, I think!
@forasaje im talking about his mannarisms, he doesnt look comfortable in his own skin, and i feel for some reason he is playing up his pro-blackness and masculinity.. ofcourse this is just my opinion so i could be wrong.
i don't think he's "playing up" anything at all. he's just observing how (and this is still the case) darker skinned (in other words, undeniably black) artists don't usually cross over into the mainstream. they are often limited to r&b charts and black radio stations no matter their genre. it's an interesting observation, and it's worth looking at possible social/racially-driven reasons for that.
@80skiwi You got it backwards. D'Arby defected to the UK in the 80s, where he started his career. By the time he made this record (in '93), he was back living in the States, where he lived for several years (in L.A. I think).
It was like the early2000's when he moved to Italy, where he has been living since.
Thanks for that. Didn't realise he moved to the states as far back as the 80s - time flys. Although I do remember that hits like "Wishing well" and "sign your name" were released in the 1980s.
I expected to hear more from Trent D'Arby since that first album. Wonder if his move to the UK was the best thing to do?
Hey, is it just me but TTD is really bad!! Look at if you let me stay live 1987 then his performance of She kissed me b4 this interview with Arsenio, I dunno, I think this guy may have been better than even the so-called King of Pop...at least this dude sings live and with them leaps and splits and spins, I think he got ol' boy beat...
@forasaje TDD is good no doubt but no one beats the King of Pop. He didnt become the King for nothing. From a child superstar to a global pop icon his career spanned nearly 4 decades. Not many can achieve - and maintain - that level of success the way MJ did if they didnt have that something special that sets them apart.
@maxin80 : 4 decades....right...not counting the years of inactivity and scandal eh?
Just because he was living during those 4 decades, I wouldn't necessarily say he was always on top....anyway screw it...I know I'm talking to one of those who put Jackson on some pedestal so what's the point...?
@forasaje Well show me any artist who has been on top for all their lives? No one needs to put MJ on a pedestal his achievements speak for themselves. If you want to know further details look it up on wikipedia and compare it with that of TTD. It was MJ's success in the early 80's which opened the door for many other black artists including TTD by whom he is clearly influenced.
I like TTD too but there is a big difference between being simply good and being a truly great entertainer.
@DeanGoulding "Generalising your opinions"!!! What's that supposed to mean? You just dont want to accept the facts ... you can ask me to shut up but the facts are screaming in your face pal MJ rules always. Dont give me that bs " Sananda just hates record labels". I think its more the other way around.
brillance...

@maxin80 Shut up. That wasn't it at all. Sananda just hates record labels and perhaps was a bit too self-interested.
DeanGoulding 1 year ago
@DeanGoulding Self interested or not, you have to face the facts MJ is in a league of his and no one compares to him Sananda included.
