i cant do this anymore, everytime i try to pull up a video on my media sever from my lap top i get some type of (2005 error) message. it didnt start til i had updated my windows media, im wondering if the ps3 current media server is not fully compatible with the new Windows Media Player?

Anyone who has problem with not finding server, please do the following in your ps3. Most videos doesn't inform this but chances are this is the problem - Go to setting, network setting , and enable your media server connection ( remember to do this in the ps3). You really don't have to do this in Window Media Player. Basically, just enable server sharing on your computer and turn off your fire wall - that is pretty much all you have to do on the computer. The rest, you can do it on the PS3.

I have a problem with setting up this. When I click on Configure Sharing it doesn't give me an option to choose my ps3. All it has is a box saying share my media which I can check. But when I check it nothing happens. Is the other settings I have to do?? I have set the ps3 up to be able to share media.

Dude, download PS3 Media server! I found it online and I was weary about using it but I figured what the hell. I installed it and promptly after I installed I restarted my computer and started in Safe mode and scanned my computer. Nothing found, so I turned it on and I went to my ps3 and it was seeing my ps3media server which was my computer. Make sure to add PS3 media server to the firewall. After all this is done, you can see all your files on your computer and you can copy or stream anything!

i had the same issue until i turned my ps3 on. make sure your ps3 is online too. I walked back to my p.c. and it warned me an unknown device was trying to share files. i allowed it and it was my ps3. It works perfectly for music.

if you want to have nat 1 or 2 whn ur connected to ur laptop mate just try bridging your connections it works for me and it got me from NAT3 to NAT1 but im wireless now and i got NAT2 lol no difference

ok,, soo0o i did all this; and i see the files from my computer listed on my ps3 ...under the correct media server but when i try to copy.. it goes to copy screen then 5 sec lata it says network error; !! :( whats wrong ?

also, just watch first 35 seconds and thats all you need, if your computer has wifi, when your setting this up the computer picks up signal as unknown device which is ps3, and your done, you dont evn need to touch ps3 for setting and all that.

err...im not an ms fanboy, i dont really care what product i use as long as it does the job! I just dont see why people pay more for less compatibility, i regret buying an iPod because there were better products avaliable which were cheaper and didnt scratch everytime i put it in my pocked (with a cover too). oh well, at least you found a way to fix the problem :)

Because it accesses the files that are on the PC. If the PC is off, no connection can be made.

The camera quality of your video is horrible...like mine but your video did give me some ideas in solving my problems with setting up the media server. But after all that effort the file format on the PC is not recognised on the PS3. Thats just bloody great. If I sound bitter...well I am.

Yes, you can do this wirelessly as well, though presumably not as fast as it would be with ethernet cable, nor as fast as it would be with the portable hard drive plugged directly into the machine.

it works all the time for me. Basically have the ps3 ready to search for media servers but do not press search yet. go to windows media player and under library click on the arrow and go to media sharing. Then after a wee window will come up uncheck both boxes and as soon as u do that search for media server on the ps3 and about 5 seconds later quickly check the two boxes again and the ps3 will find it. This does work for me all the time so hope it works for use.

Hi, My PS3/router is pissing me off....

I have a Linksys WRT54G V8 Wireless router that I am using.

Whenever I enable MEDIA SERVER CONNECTION I have to Disable it if I want to get my PS3 online.

As soon as I turn it off I get loged in... Is there a way I can fix this without comprimising anything.
