kevin shields fucking owns the tremelo arm and reverse reverb effect for eternity. any time those are combined together it will immediately be associated to his sound.
This must have been an awesome experience for Gemma. I know she's a huuuuge Kevin Shields fan. It must have been cool for Mr. Shields, too, though. I mean, it's Gemma. She's kind of amazing in her own right.
actually he doesn't use many effectpedals. basically it's just reverse reverb (in a rack), a distortion pedal and most important; his own special use of the tremolo arm on the guitar, which as you all know has been his trademark during the years.
@thinlinechris in the studio they didn't use nearly that much gear. it's all studio magic on the albums. and anyway, his vast collection of pedals in the live setup is mostly for teasing the gearheads.
I've come to realise that much of the big, ethereal music around seems to come out of ireland, or people of irish heritage (i.e the smiths). My Bloody Valentine and U2 are both great examples of the "irish sound". Big ethereal walls of guitar. But in my opinion, Kevin Shields does it better than anyone, including the Edge.
im asking the same question as most guitarists here, but god what pedals is he using

Gemma Hayes opened for My Bloody Valentine on their reunion tour, for their Toronto show. She received an unfair amount of hate from the audience.
She's not a shoegaze artist. Once you realize that, you'll like her more.
Kevin Shields seems to like her, and he historically has great taste...

Anyone know what guitar Kevin is using here? Probably a Jazzmaster or Jaguar but I can't see.

It's pleasing to see someone who isn't bonking the hell out of their guitar. It's as if his pick is made out of cotton wool.

Wow-I guess that Kevin Shields sounds like Kevin Shields, even live. He's such a great accompanist, so deft and complimentary.

@diawol - you serious? for this concert perhaps not but in mbv he has two MASSIVE boards littered with pedals.

According to kevin, most of them are just eq pedals. He's obsessive about tone.
