it is so interesting that Islam and Christianity both forbid usury, but what is even more so is that in Islam, God (and His Last Prophet) wages WAR on usury. Now we witness the capitalist economy-religion is imploding on itself. All of mankind's problems are the manifestation of this War on Usury. I'm Scottish, and I find it very striking how very Scottish Pound's reciting voice is - not just the accent, but also the rhythms and rhetorical style.

I'm wondering if he's adopting some specific person as a model here - or if this North-Atlantic-Celt thing was more ideological - like some fundamental part of his geo-literary construct & where he fitted into it.

The Seafarer is very North Atlantic in its Ambit, and he pulls that off magnificently...

But for his astonishing contribution to world poetry in general, Pound would have gone to the chair. His insanity or otherwise is much debated, vide Humphrey Carpenter's biography. Incidentally, he later recanted what he called the "suburban prejudice of anti-Semitism. On a literary note, it is interesting to compare his reading style with that of Basil Bunting, who can also be found reading on YouTube. Bunting has become as seminal a figure in British poetry as TS Eliot, & is more original.

nextren - what about Pound dedicating Guide to Kulchur (written in the 30s) to Zukofsky, a Jew (whom he also greatly encouraged)? Doesn't excuse all his other comments/fascist radio broadcasts, but perhaps he was more after the wealthy bankers etc (who often happened to be Jewish) in his paranoid quest to discover what caused wars, which consumed him ever since his friend got killed in WWI. Still, in any case a great poet.

As the "crisis" evoluates, the more I think Canto XLV is becoming more and more prophetical.

The reason, I think, that? Mr Pound was declared insane, was to save him from death sentence for treason, because he lent his voice for the fascist Italian radio to appeal to the allied troops for armistice, and the fascists, as is generally known, were about to loose the war.

Pound's disciple Eustice Mullins, who is still alive, recently told an interviewer that convicted Soviet spy Alger Hiss was the man who had Pound put into an insane asylum without any formal charges for 12 years after WWII. He'd been to the USA before war broke out trying to prevent it by trying to explain international banking to influential people in culture and politics.

Pound had some nasty things to say about the white protestant bankers too. it's just that so-called jews dominate the foul business to a great extent.

Ginsberg himself was a buddhist. his bloodline was thru the Khazars back to ancient Sumer, but he'd been miseducated as to his family's actual history.

Ezra Pound fosse vicino al fascismo è un dato di fatto snaturare così un poeta che tra l'altro da qnt ho capito ti piace non è rispettoso nei suoi confronti. A me piace Pasolini e lo rispetto, ora perchè io sono fascista dovrei dire che Pasolini non era comunista e omosessuale? He may have been mad, but he was as crazy as a fox. He succumbed to Italy during the war because he so loathed the the surreal American landscape. He was not in his opinions far different from Joe Kennedy and Henry Ford, Mr. Lindbergh, etc, etc. His heart was European in the romantic sense and, compared to American (already hyperreal in that day), Hell seemed heaven to the poor soul. He did a fine penance at St. Elizabeths.
