thank you, bdrum50, for sharing this interview with the rest of us....i found it really interesting and watched all 10 parts in succession.....wonderful hearing two great drummers able to relate to one another about music, musical influences, anecdotal memories....growing up in NY, i was a huge rascals fan and cut a lot of school to hang out outside their homes....LOL...
so good to see these noo yawk guys!!! hoping that tours bring them down to FL---i'll be front row ... :-)
Dino in my view ( educated ) was one of the greatest drummers of the 60s 70s era
my first vision of him playing, good lovin is set in stone in my memory, it is rare to see a drummer just climb into a song and drive it like a race car. Respect.
Dino seems like a really nice guy. He is much more soft spoken than I thought he would be. He is also somewhat shy and a good listener. I really like him. And such a great drummer, that goes without saying. :)
I love Liberty's attitude. For all of his success and prominence as the drummer behind Billy Joel, he shows himself as a fan first. You gotta love a cat like that! Dino was one of my all time drummer heroes as well.
I was the drummer inthe band that lost my job at the Choo Choo club in Garfield to the rascals. I knew Dino since the Hoboken days with Ronnie Speeks and the Elrods. The man revolutionized the rock drumming era. I nnew Eddie and Dave Brigati from the Joey Dee days.
Hell yeah, I was big Pilgrims fan. Dino was drummer, Bob Severino's Brother in-law.Bobby was a magnificent drummer. Did the most incredible extended solos. I studied drums with Bobby for two years. Pilgrims were a great act. Never broke thtough with a record though.
I saw THEM AT island Garden near my House ; The Hassles opened [B.Joel] The Vagrants were next [Leslie.West] The Vanilla Fudge Next [early on] & The RASCALS wore the Crown as they headlined . And blew the whole lid off ..
what class both of these guys have both are huge influences.i am so glad that they didn't disappoint me on a personal level.these guys are the real deal
The Rascals played at my Church, Our Lady Of The Valley in Wayne, NJ back around 1966 and Dino tossed one of his sticks to a buddy of mine and he STILL has it. GREAT INTERVIEW...GREAT POST ~ THANKS!!!

How cool are these guys! I love the beat of Hold On that Dino talks about. He's one of the best rock'n'soul drummers ever.

The Young Rascals are the first band in america , so that makes Dino Danelli the first and only best drummer period.

I have a bet with a pal of mine. I say that as soon as you walked into The Metropole the band played on the RIGHT SIDE. Am I right or wrong?
BigIronOnHipMan 3 years ago
I belive it was the left, but by the time I saw it (late 60s), it was a strip joint.

Does anyone remember seeing "The Pilgrims" playing at The Attic on Rt#46W in Garfield back in the late `60's?
