There's a Christian fable that says robins are derived from birds that bathed in a pool of Jesus' blood that poured from his spear wound; the blood was forever soaked into their chests as a reminder of Christs' love for man. It's said that a robin signifies the coming of Easter, and it brings good luck to those who see one. Quite a uplifting story.
I've had the same Robin showing up and eating our cat food for the past three years. I know it's the same one because one of it's feet has some peculiar deformities. They're really cool birds, and really bold, too.
Well, we do have one in my neighborhood who stays up all night & sings [esp when it's hot in the summer] & at the 1st light of day, he quiets down. Can't explain it but there it is. I love them & wish there were more of them around. I don't see or hear them as much as when I was a child. They have a beautiful song that takes me back to childhood~ :)
There are many similarities between this robin and the Eurasian BLACKBIRD, such as the scientific first name "Turdus", the first to start singing in the morning and they have similar calls and alarm calls, and even the song is very similar to our Eurasian Blackbird!
They are early singers but their song is pleasant and soothing Not jarring like a jay or cardinal . I bet you would miss them in the spring if all that was quiet I would ..We have a chorus all over the street in the spring They will sing into early june and then they more or less stop [after all the babies are gone . But Spring is when they are most vocal and reply to all the other robins
Robins started showing up last week here in southern Wisconsin. We all know that means warmer tempratures are here when the robins appear. Hoorah for robins they bring us what those pesky groundhogs seem to want to deny us each year! Nice Video.
Very educational for the children in my family. This is so much better than what our children are watching today on youtube. Thank you once again for your documentary. I also found it very interesting myself.
They are out side my house right now :)

That's funny; in America the robin is about spring and Easter but in the UK (Europe) it very much symbolises Christmas.

does the lifespan take into account chicks that die in infancy, taking out that outlier, what is the new lifespan?

@birdman89100 Who couldn't love robins?

I love how they hop everywhere, and have polka dot stomachs as juveniles. Too bad you couldn't get much of their song.

I just like watching the feathers on the robin's heads fan up and down. XD So cute.

Great video. These Robins look different than ours in Seattle. Here, they seem a little smaller, and the coat is grey.

First song heard early each morning? You're right about that. Damn robins wake up at about 3am and never stop singing.
Watching one yank an earthworm out of the ground is pretty interesting to see, though.
