  • I must say that I loved the chemistry between these two! Alan did a good job playing Paul or Saul or whatever his name was. LOL!

  • Jenkins, what a painter!

  • Aaah...now I understand. Alan Bates portrayed Paul Jenkins, the artist. The movie was actually filmed in Paul Jenkin's studio loft with some of his work on loan for the movie. And, yes, your description says that, doesn't it? That will teach me to read first, won't it? LOL!

  • Well, he was just a fictional character and most certainly didn't resemble Jenkins in the least!

  • Sorry, I no longer have the video to do anymore uploads! (Try Nexflix) I really only remember the painting scene and went back to it to confirm my suspicions about the artwork. But it did seem to encapsulate the 70's to me, much like Annie Hall did.

  • is there any chance to upload the whole movie

  • NO mention of the music which I loved. Composer Bill Conti

  • jill clayburgh is one of the greats - i would say this is her best along with starting over with burt reynolds -

  • i love this movie!!!!

  • That was Paul Jenkins????

I saw this when I was in college. All I really remember is the last scene when she's walking down the street carrying this huge painting. But I remember it was a good movie.

  • With all the crap hype to Sex and the City Movie, it's truly great to see the prequel and the sequel to SATC. It's amazing that this movie was made in 1978 and still rings true! Written and directed by Paul Mazursky, An Unmarried Woman was one of the most critically acclaimed films of 1978. It was nominated for three Academy Awards including Best Picture, Best Actress (Jill Clayburgh) and Best Writing, Screenplay Written Directly for the Screen.

  • Yes, you are right. And she deserved to win an Oscar for her sensitive performance.

  • That's true but look @ the competition she was up against that year:

Jill Clayburgh "An Unmarried Woman" - WONDERFUL AND MOVING

Indgrid Bergman "Autumn Sonata" - EXTRAORDINARY

    Geraldine Page "Interiors" - EXTRAORDINARY

Jane Fonda "Coming Home" - Strong but not as strong as the other three named.

Ellen Burstyn "Same Time, Next Year" Good

    What do you think?

  • Yes, you're right. All of them amazing actresses.

  • OMG, I LOVED "Same Time, Next Year"!

  • Me too. What I loved about her performance is the amount of HONESTY she brought to that part. I believed every second of her performance. It was like a said a good performance.

  • wow !!! shes the best!! does anyone have the scene where shes making love in the nyc loft?
