Once again, the comments have stole the focus of this piece. Views on Israel, the Middle East, WWII aside, this piece is immense. I'd like to load a video of a beautiful piece of music just once to find that people aren't tearing each other new ones just because youtube affords them anonymity.
one would think that the comments would be about the breath- takingly beautiful piece of music but instead it's an arguement about jews. (don't get offended because i am a jew)
The political argument which goes on in the comments is an insult to the beauty of this music. Music, especially as divine as Chopin's should be free from such lowly debates attached to it...Just enjoy it. Like I do here in Israel. Chopin just brings out the soul of the piano...truly amazing.
I loved this movie with all my heart, yes the love for piano brought me to the movie, but i had no idea there would be a whole story behind just a man with a beautiful talent. In the movie as i saw him play and i saw the silent shock on the officer, well i knew that he could never kill a man with such talent. In many other scenes i just became overwhelmed, but by far this song was my favorite that he played. it means courage and pride (:
I don´t understand why people are not learning from history. What the nazis did in the WW2 was so horrible. And feelings like hostility and intolerance against jews, muslims, against any religion, race ... provoke actions like this.
you know, the only thing that i dislike of this movie is that is making publicity for the Jewish, making look like that they are poor, and indefense, but look now at Palestina, and you will see how now the Jewishs are equal or worst with the palestine ppl. :(
@Bruce88keys First man, i don't insult you, and second, i don't condene ALL Jewish people, i am just saying that what the Jewish are doing in Israel with the palestines is Inhuman, and if you are Jewish, well, i don't really care about you, because you aren't doing stuff like that, but well, is all up to you. Thank the Jewish? Get down on my knees? Ok some people will say you F)!·% You, but you know, i am christian, and well , i just say that is a little exaggerated. All people deserves respect
@Bruce88keys Ok so i don't need to anwser that, just because you speak in Hebrew , that doesn't mean that i can´t read it(Google, of course), and seems like you are a fanboy of the Jewish, and second i am from Chile, SouthAmerica, and i am not a Palestian. Well i will have to block you because, the moron is you, fuzzing and bothering around, so i am sorry, i don't want to waste my precious time answering stuff to people that just don't understand, so i will block you.
@X3onInside the funny thing is, both of you spelled Palestinian wrong. *awkward* I personally agree on your statement what SOME Jewish people are doing to Palestinians, and I also respect Bruce's statement off of what the Jewish people have done for us. You are a Christian because of Jewish people. Christianity is just an extension of Judaism so Jews really did build the foundation for Christianity.
@michellemccuistion1 i dont think judaisim is the problem in the middle east today. under the ottomans everyone lived in peace. it is zionism that gives jews and humans in general a bad name. zionism is no different then nazi germany. i would think a civilization that has been through the holocaust would know something about human rights. i dont respect zionist or israel. not all jews are like the zionists
@shishirth but it is appropriate. any civilization that has suffered such a traumatic event as a genocide, any body would think, they of all people would be more considered when it came to equality and freedom. rather the ZIONIST israel, not orthodox jewish israel, is committing a genocide of its own
@hpbrown1 Israel is not committing a genocide of its own. There are 2 million non-Jewish Arabs who have Israeli citizenship and can live normal lives. Israel has every right to defend itself from Arab terrorists in Gaza and the West Bank. Moreover, about half of Israel's Jewish population fled from other Arab nations unwilling to let Jews live in peace. Israel is a victim of Arab Islamic intolerance. Israel is a valiant nation simply trying to survive against all odds.
@shishirth arab intolerance of jews does exist. nobody would deny that. but how could it not when united states and england took land from them gave it to a third party who then instilled policies like the samson doctrine and other violent policies. a poor palestenian has no chance against a well structured economically fit israel army. israel is doing the kiling and a genocide. u cant deny it. im just being real and if u cant accept that then ur knowingly denying the truth
@hpbrown1 There once were thriving Jewish communities all over the Middle East - in Yemen, in what is now Saudi Arabia, in Syria, in Jordan, in Egypt - today there are no Jews left in any of the nations - isn't that a genocide of Jews? And where are Jewish refugees from the Arab nations supposed to go - jump into the Mediterranean? The Palestinian population gets more aid per capita than any other people - and their growth rate has been more than double the Jewish growth. How is that genocide?
i have some problems with expressing my true feelings, but i always dreamed of getting to my girfriends house and just sit at the piano and play something like this, it would explain enough.
I'm young and I love "the Pianist" and Chopin but I like cool music too the proof teenagers can like old and new music ^^ (sorry if my english suck I'm french ^-^" )
This is a very beautiful piece. The scene this is played in is a very beautiful one as well. Such a great movie of how music inspires survival and determination. Even as a young adult, I adore and appreciate classics such as this one. Today's generation misses out on so much these days just because it's not the "coolest" thing to listen to. Well, I say screw that, this is great music. Lady Gaga can wait.

@SilentHillEmzie It's never too late. I started at 16 with no teacher, check my channel if you want to know my progression (22 now). Playing the piano is very relaxing.

As a pianist you wait a long time to hear something that will catch your attention or blow you away...This took my breath away..I literally couldn't breath after listening to the most amazing piece of music I've ever heard in my life!! I aspire to play like this someday, yet I know that it is merely impossible, Chopin was a true genius..and is my hero and inspiration
@apsCee Captain Wilm Hosenfeld is one of the many examples of a "good German" during WWII. God bless all the courageous Germans who opposed Nazi oppression. God bless the innocent victims of WWII.
@nielscarp@TheMsEconomic Well let's be honest. If your country was as fascistly strict as WWII Germany was, would you oppose them? It's easy to say "I would" because the majority of us probably never experienced it and never will. But maybe Hosenfeld was trying to make himself look good. He still saved lives, even if it was for a reputation.
@nielscarp What ever societal group you represent sir, was in fact just hideously misrepresented by yourself. "There were only 0,1 procent were like Wilm Hosenfeld" Need I say more?
@Doum92 Wow! Really? You're response is that? Look, I may not be a strong Christian[or heavily religious], but "God bless" is among the least I can say for the 60 million lives lost during WWII, both Allies AND Allies alike. Think what you want! Believe what you want! I don't care for ignorant opinions. You're free to think what you want to. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise. So God bless you too, @ Doum92. LOL =)
@Scorpiocracy Hahaha. Ignorant opinions. Said by the one saying ''God bless'' about World War 2. You are so dumbfuck that you don't even realize how fucking stupid it is to say that. Saying ''God bless'' and ''Hitler bless'' is the same thing.
i love his song and chopin and the pianist... chopin is brilliant! if inspiration is what got him to make these bautiful peices then his was probably a good one.
In a letter written to the daughter of George Sand, Chopin himself describes a moment, during a performance of his Sonata in B flat minor in England in 1848 at a private salon, when he saw creatures emerging from his piano which forced him to leave the room to recover himself.
The most likely explanation for Chopin's visions, say the Spanish doctors, is a form of the medical condition epilepsy called temporal lobe epilepsy...
@lazydreamereyes Use correct grammar and punctuation when writing to people. If you don't, it just makes you look stupid and ignorant. And besides, no one really cares unlike you other people can take a joke.
@xRomunux for all your grammar policing, you should know that your use of "Nazi's" in your original comment is incorrect. there should be no apostrophe, as i'm assuming you meant to use the plural form of Nazi rather than the possessive one. also, by "correct grammar and punctuation," i believe you meant capitalization because both my grammar and punctuation are perfect. ;)
whatever, this song is amazing and chopin is a genius amongst pianists.
@LonelyStoner28 *sigh* i knew someone would bring that up even though my tone was clearly tongue-in-cheek. point is, xromunux understood my reply (despite the lack of capitalization) and felt compelled to break out the ad hominem attacks and rather rudely at that. seeing as this is the internet and not a scholarly dissertation on the human condition, capitalization and, to an extent grammar, are overrated, while communication is everything
@Sungetsu15 Well they didnt try to do that to achieve world peace but from their own personal reasons, they though hitler was becoming a weak leader (beacouse of his mind sickness) and to rise 3rd reich again
@goodgirl140 I also think that this scene goes to show no only what you said, but also the fact that there is something powerful in this touching artist and piece by Chopin that it was impossible for the german officer to kill such a beautiful artist and, thus, the source of the only beautiful thing that both were seeing in those destroyed surroundings.
It's a metaphor: You can destroy everything but something so beautifil can't be destroyed, doing so would be like killing a part of your soul.
Its funnt how you feel for the german officer, considering he probably killed lots of Jews. If Szpielman wasn`t a pianist, he probably be dead to. I think the german had the music in his heart, same as Szpielman, and that was all they had in common, and that`s what saved his life, not the compassion that the german officer felt for him.
@kortess121 i agree with you but i think that 5 people are nazis when they see the movie they can't believe that, somebody tell the truth in a simple like a movie
A very good scene, the music says so much about, the Nazi soldier watches with no emotion. Very powerful scene. I think the Nazi sees the genius of the Pianist and leaves him alone. How can a person with so much be put to death?
@elmasloco15 The Nazi person was actually a really good person, he did not save Szpilman only because of his talent! He saved more than ten people at least, and he was a really devout Catholic.
Chopin was simply a genius. y q qde claro q un genio no es aquel q de la noche a la mañana saca obras maestras si no aquel q con su trabajo y esfuerzo logra cosas inimaginables, grandiosas, gloriosas etc
I'm starting to play this, and it actually is not too diffucult to read, just difficult to play and requires lots of practice and devotion because it is so long. People should not be too intimidated by it.
This is the only song I can always study to without fail. Who was I in a past life?

@xRomunux for all your grammar policing, you should know that your use of "Nazi's" in your original comment is incorrect. there should be no apostrophe, as i'm assuming you meant to use the plural form of Nazi rather than the possessive one. also, by "correct grammar and punctuation," i believe you meant capitalization because both my grammar and punctuation are perfect. ;)
whatever, this song is amazing and chopin is a genius amongst pianists.
lazydreamereyes 11 months ago
@lazydreamereyes Learn to use capitals if you're going to police someone about their, "grammar policing". ;)
LonelyStoner28 10 months ago
@LonelyStoner28 *sigh* i knew someone would bring that up even though my tone was clearly tongue-in-cheek. point is, xromunux understood my reply (despite the lack of capitalization) and felt compelled to break out the ad hominem attacks and rather rudely at that. seeing as this is the internet and not a scholarly dissertation on the human condition, capitalization and, to an extent grammar, are overrated, while communication is everything

At least not all Nazis are bad ... like this captain and some Nazi officers who tried to assassinate Adolf Hitler in order to end World War II early.
Sungetsu15 1 year ago
@Sungetsu15 Well they didnt try to do that to achieve world peace but from their own personal reasons, they though hitler was becoming a weak leader (beacouse of his mind sickness) and to rise 3rd reich again

Any idea why this Ballade is chosen ? I think it's the music itself. There're soft passages and the arousing, strong ones too.
Wonder why no Mazurka or Polonaise are chosen. They're so Polish

This scene in the movie goes to show that music and art can bring together even enemies.
goodgirl140 1 year ago 4

A very good scene, the music says so much about, the Nazi soldier watches with no emotion. Very powerful scene. I think the Nazi sees the genius of the Pianist and leaves him alone. How can a person with so much be put to death?
elmasloco15 1 year ago
@elmasloco15 The Nazi person was actually a really good person, he did not save Szpilman only because of his talent! He saved more than ten people at least, and he was a really devout Catholic.

Chopin was simply a genius. y q qde claro q un genio no es aquel q de la noche a la mañana saca obras maestras si no aquel q con su trabajo y esfuerzo logra cosas inimaginables, grandiosas, gloriosas etc

@Blakeyisbuffed Axl Rose? Sorry, he didn't originally. November Rain was good, but that's about it. Guns N Roses are no good without Slash.

I'm starting to play this, and it actually is not too diffucult to read, just difficult to play and requires lots of practice and devotion because it is so long. People should not be too intimidated by it.
