  • Thank you X

  • One of the best ballads since ONE.

  • @meemots I think it's too dark of a song to be a ballad,but that's just my opinion...the term "ballad" doesn't come to mind

  • ach man, ichh vermiße "the edge"....

  • the "one" of our time...thanks for another fave for U2 fans...keep up the good work boys

  • I will listen this legendary song live in Istanbul 6th of September, thanks god they are coming to Turkey for the first time

  • The most beautiful, heartbreaking, dark, sarcastic song since "One" and "Love is blindness".

I really wish this song was appreciated the way it deserved to be. One of the most underrated songs of 2000s

  • Bono's voice give's you the creeps in this song!

    It's SUBLIME! .....like always btw.

  • I always wanted a personal Song for me. A Song played when I have to leave this world. This is it!

  • @yuio3456 YES! I so agree!

  • 29 years of spiritual anthems, I took beatings as a young person idolizing u2. Spiritually, emotionally, and physically. I am stronger for it... A-ho! bless you u2, and the ones' who believe these words. Love and Respect... kimo

  • @klahayno LOL, what asswipes were beating you up for liking U2?

  • BOTH songs are exellent i like how bono talks about unknown caller :) ahh i love U2

  • This song is not better than Magnificent, but it's still a beautiful song.

  • great song but,

    it's more cerebral,

    whereas this is more visceral.

    just my own take.

    ''It's like asking,

    'Which of your children

    is your favorite?' ''

    Love & Peace [l8{i}

  • Yes!!!

I have been at 360 concert in Zagreb... and stil I am so alive... so happy... so strong...

  • Any personal interpretations of this?..I'd love

    to hear them ;)

  • uh uh oh oh oh oh.........be still my heart! Rock! love U2

  • great lyrics but i have to admit i like how they perform this song live instead of their recorded version

  • I completely agree with you

  • This song is so peaceful yet disturbing, full of emotions and one of the best ever written a put into music! LOVE U2!:-)

  • Maybe you should be terminated, this is a fucken classic U2 Best band in the world.

  • Most people would agree that this is an amazing song ,you should wash your ears out and wake up and smell the coffee,go and listen to Hana Montana or whatever drivel turns you on.

  • you stink a lot lbottrill ! you are as clever as an oyster can be. Sorry for you dude!

  • That's like saying the Venus de Milo is bullshit compared to the Mona Lisa.

  • with or without you in the 80's

    one in the 90's

    moment of surrender in oo's......

  • @vox1661 seriously i agree with you !!!!

  • U2 wrote "Miami"

  • such a beautiful song. very touching. u2 still has the magic.

  • I guess you're right, didn't think about that... U2 were here first

  • Sounds a bit Coldplay-esque to me... Still nice

  • You got it the wrong way round petebb69 -just about everything Coldplay do is U2esque, Chris Martin is a self-confessed U2 fan, and it shows.

    Sounds nothing like Coldplay either.

  • This is pretty, but it's no "Breathe." Or "Crumbs from Your Table" or "If God Will Send His Angels." And they even had the nerve to put the "oh-oh-oooohs" from "Stay (Faraway, So Close)" in there. I'm not a fan of NLOTH, but I can't wait for the next album. It'll be better than this one. I believe it.

  • There are musical qualities/characteristics about U2's three albums that were released this decade that have many similarities in comparison to one another. "How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb" ranks to be my favorite of the three because of the songs' structural solidity. I've heard every song off "No Line on the Horizon" and the weakest song is undeniably "Get On Your Boots", the best are "Breathe" and "White As Snow". This however is my favorite. ; )

  • Really? I like Get on Your Boots. It's a little poppy and different but still. I don't really like "Magnificent."

  • I must say, 'White as Snow' and 'Breathe' are two completely epic songs. The first has such a great story in it and such an incredible message, and 'Breathe' just rocks my world. Absolutely loved seeing them open the concert with it. Epic entrance! I have to say, though, 'Magnificent' has one of the best messages on the album.. I really like that one. Can't wait for the boys' next album!!!

  • seriously? I LOVE NLOTH. I think its one of their best albums. This song gives me chills just from the first line :)

  • this song is one of their best! I love it ! :-)

  • LOVE THEM , THEY ARE SOOOOO GREAT !!

  • Only a matter of time before some big voiced vacuous asshole wannabe covers this song for American Idol! :-(

  • Sir Bono I Love You!! great song

  • A few nights ago I had a dream in which I was at a funeral for somebody, don't know who, and then this very song was playing in the dream, and it made me burst into tears, and for some reason Bono was there, not singing it I must add! Not sure what it all meant but it kind of gave a new meaning to this song for me.

  • J'écoute cette chanson en boucle, je l'adore! Une de mes préférées de U2, peut-être même ma préférée.

  • Ich Liebe diesen Song !!

  • RynoScott,

    I dig it, man.

My fiancee whom I have been with for 7 yrs recently deserted me for her new bf.

She also took our Pom with her. It was a double blow to me. Have thought of suicide myself......can't force myself to do it

though. Just lots of grief, pain and tears.

Have been listening to 'MoS' again and again every day. It has become my fav song now.

  • hey man just remember not to give up on yourself there is so much to life

  • Raylo,

I can empathize with your loss.

I got 'Stuck in a Moment...' about nine years ago.

My gf of ten years and the mother of my two children,

left and moved a thousand miles away.

If it wasn't for 'ATYCLB' and songs like

'Walk On' & 'Stuck In A Moment...' in particular,

    and a truly, caring, doctor,

I prob wouldn't be writing this now.

  • Some people are strong enough to cope with life's adversities.

Others may need to find a 'trained' person who can

steer them in a new direction.

I happen to be in the latter category and

    contrary to what some think,

I believe it takes a strong person to reach out for help.

    Because like the song says,

'Sometimes you can't make it on your own'.

  • And while I don't profess to have all of the answers,

I do know that, for me, it would be selfish to escape my pain and

leave it for my kids, mother, siblings & friends to endure.

I was fortunate that I was able to reach out and someone listened.

Not that life is all, 'sunshine and roses' now but,

I have learned some invaluable coping tools.

  • Music has always been one but, in recent years, I have begun writing songs & poetry to help excise my 'demons'. And I believe it has been my salvation. I've been singing professionally since I was five but, only recently began learning to play the piano as well. I only know a handful of songs so far (most of them, U2, of course 8) with the latest being 'MoS'. However, I still watch this vid or the Dublin one every day, also.
  • It's healthy to grieve, feel pain and shed tears, that's our humanity. However, one of the things that helped me most, was knowing that I wasn't alone. Of all the internet's ills, mainly the 'disconnect', there are some positives. I've have 'spoken' to many others all around the world with many similar experiences. And for that, I am truly grateful. 8')
  • I'm sure you've heard, 'Time heals all wounds'

but, I prefer a quote by Rose Fitzgerald Kennedy (JFK's mother)

'It has been said, 'time heals all wounds.' I do not agree.

The wounds remain. In time, the mind, protecting its sanity,

covers them with scar tissue and the pain lessens.

    But, it is never gone.'

  • Losing both your fiancee' and

your beloved pet IS a double~whammy.

Hopefully, knowing that there are those

    who can empathize with you,

will ease some of your pain.

    Hang in there, man.

Much Love, Many Blessings & Peace

    ~ RS

  • it's funny. whenever i go through a breakup, i listen to certain music over and over. last year it was 'time the conqueror' by jackson browne, and 'that lucky old sun' by brian wilson....both those lp's really moved me.....this is a powerful song.

  • amazing song really truley great

  • 'I tied myself with wire, ...' = wedding ring. 'to let the horses run free' = sex w/o contraception 'Playing with the fire, ...' = the rhythm method, perhaps? '...til the fire played with me' = unintended pregnancy scare maybe? For a Roman & Irish~catholic boy myself, I believe he's either relating his own exp w/Ally or someone else, ... or he's playing the role he's created to share something personal through a 'general' story w/ universal appeal. 8{i}
  • Fascinating interpretation!

I love this song, and I very much appreciate personal takes and insights upon it.

    Thanks.

  • diggit!

and I appreciate a positive reply.

    However rare. 8)

  • That song is great!

  • a~MAZ!~ing!!!

Best U2 song since, 'Walk On'!

    Powerful, Soulful & Catchy, ...

what more could you want? 8)

    Diggit, they still got it! 8{i}

    Thanks for the post.

    Much Love,

    Many Blessings,

    & Peace to all.

  • Sweet! Thanks for posting!

  • Super piosenka :)

  • 'It's not if I believe in love,

But, if love believes in me, ...'

    I thought, 'I'll Go Crazy...'

was my fav off this album but,

this one is quickly gaining ground!!

Anyone who isn't deeply moved by this

    should check with their doctor,

    cause you may already be dead. 8{i}

  • your comment made me laugh a lot because I totally agree with you! whoever is not moved by this song must be crazy or dead

  • Diggit! 8{i}

    Love & Peace

  • Ive been in every black hole

At the altar of the dark star

  • Wow...this is great!!! thx squince for sharing!!

  • Love this song! What's your interpretation of the lyrics? What's he singing about?

  • he is talking about his surrender to Christ. he is a great faith! and this song is all about his struggle with finding the truth and surrendering to it. Love=God and thats what he is talking about :)

  • has ** a great faith.

  • I thought he was singing about getting/being married.

"the stone was semi-precious and we were barely conscious, 2 souls 2 smart 2 B in the realm of certainty, even on our wedding day."

    I guess it's not much of a difference--surrendering to God/surrendering to Love.

  • You're right, he was.

    although, I disagree about

there not being a difference bet surrendering to love/god.

One is a basic human need,

    to love and be loved.

the other is an intangible belief in something as a way to attempt to

    explain the unexplainable.

He's making the analogy/sharing the exp

of being young and not really knowing what love was or how to fully embrace it, appreciate it, or share it.

  • A 'moment of surrender' usually has to do with someone who's reached bottom, (addictions, etc) and are 'surrendering' their struggles. In this case, his moment of clarity showed him what was most important, ...love. Great song and sentiment. And the beauty of music/art is, how you personally interpret it, is all that truly matters. ~ Love & Peace
  • I like how you have interpreted theis song. I have listened to it over and over again, trying to understand why my mum listened to it so much after dad passed away. They too struggled alot with addictions over the years..but loved each other so much. That must be why she followed him so soon. (When i was just a wee kid i remember dad working on the set up for U2 concert in New Zealand!) Great band! :)

  • '...but loved each other so much'

It's just my own take but,

I think that's why your Mum

listened to it so much. 8)

And the fact that what you remember

is how deeply they loved each other,

speaks to how strong there love was and

also the impact it had on you by witnessing it.

  • Someone much wiser than myself

    once said,

    (paraphrasing)

'There is no greater gift to a child,

    than to love their Mother/Father.'

Way cool that your Dad got to work

    with them as well! 8D

    Thanks for the comment.

    Love & Peace

    ~ RS

  • btw, David, it's '...two souls too cool to be, ...'

I thought it was 'smart' originally too

because I went by some online lyric site.

But then I remembered to check out

    U2 com/discography/lyrics/lyric/song/182/

Although, he's famous for changing his lyrics bet the printing of a new album's liner notes/lyrics and the finished recording. 8P

    'too cool' makes more sense with the theme also. 8{i}

  • just realized,

he does say 'too smart' on this/album version.

I've been listening/learning the live one and that's where I got 'too cool' 8P

I think it's on the U2 site as well.

    Mah bad. [l8{i}

  • While they were in Europe, he said "too cool," and on the iTunes lyrics, it says "too cool." Yet, when they came to the US, he started singing it "too smart," as on the album and album lyrics. Interesting, eh?

  • diggit!, yeah, it is.

    that's kinda backwards yet,

    cool in spite of it.

    thanx for sharing.

    not something I would have

heard/learned of had it been say, ...

    'The Unforgettable Fire' tour. [l8{i}

    Cheers for the inner~netz! 8)

    Blessings & Peace

  • @davidzenbze Not much difference, in a way. Bono has said before that "God is Love," so we can conclude that sometimes, when he says "love," he's talking about God. Just depends on the context of the song, I guess.

  • No he's not. He's talking about love. Not everything is overt Bono has always used religious imagery to tell a story. (Psalms is fertile lyrical ground) And although he's back to being a catholic now, he doesn't BLAtantly schill for the Vatican with his lyrical content. But, rather, shares his thoughts, experiences, questions, struggles & most importantly...love, with anyone willing to listen. Things seriously lacking in organized religion in general.
  • RynoScott - well said. You are a wise individual
