my problem is the screws i cant take the screws that are different from any screw driver that i have off... so i had to put the wii back together again.
A temporary fix however. Try to clean the white spinner inside by spraying alcohol / perfume on a disc and inserting it. I tried it and the noise disappeared completely. I guess the spinner is dirty/greasy and doesn't hold the disc properly against the black motor.
I'm only explaining my experience and it works just fine now. Your wii is already fucked up and as you keep using your console, it will stop reading discs eventually. I tried screwing / unscrewing these crap, but no use, it's only a temporary fix. Try to apply little perfume on the outer center of the disc. If you have the official Wii cleaner, do the same (I do not mean to put some on the white lens cleaner) I mean the very center of the disc around the hole.
I found open senses website and with their help, I think I've sussed it! No bending metal or dimpling brackets.
See scottnics idea of removing the white plastic hub to see if it is worn: mine wasn't but it was a good start.
So I cut a piece of thin clear stiff plastic from a toy wrapper (it's Christmas!) about the size of a button and sandwiched it back in between the metal bracket and the plastic hub - this has the effect of pushing the hub a little closer than normal and it works! SO FAR!
Actually, I had to cut a piece of plastic from the top part of the case, but it was no big deal, since that piece was there just to hold the driver in it's position I guess.
The problem is not with pressure on the disc or the tightness of the screw but a problem with the top plastic bearing touching the bearing arm while the disc is spinning. Designed with too little clearance in my opinion. A more specific fix would be to fix the bearing arm like I did but your fix is easier. It would probably be wise to get a washer for under the frame where you slackened the screw. Check my account for a video to see the cause and an alternate fix.
That's odd, I tried this, and my Wii still makes a rather annoying noise. I unscrewed the corner screw, however was I supposed to raise the other side as well? Help would be appreciated.
There are screws in the back side (I didn't see any on the front-right corner), you could try those, but the moving parts that slide the disc in and out are placed in the back of the plate using it as a 'rail', I would watch carefully how do they move before raising the back screw.
Well, I must say, I'm no technician and I have no experience in console disassembly, (this was my first console disassembly), I just thought my trick would be useful, but most of what I did was by guess ;)
I just noticed that the other side didn't have a screw, and I can't tell if it's raised or not. If not, well, thanks for what you can do, I'm glad you've done what you could, man. I think I'll just endure it like I've been doing.
Thanks, and I can confirm this works. The video was very helpful. I cut a piece of credit card to slide in there to use as a spacer. It seemed a little more robust. Thanks again!
besides that noise (wich is gone), my drive had a noise while moving the laser for reading most distant sectors of the disc, this noise still continues and I have no idea how to deal with it.... but at least, when the game is loaded and the disc is just spinning, it runs silently ^^
In my case the Wii was just making this noise AT FIRST. But now it was spinning and then stopped and ejected the disc saying something was wrong. Will this help me? I plan on retaking my wii apart again tomorrow. Ill make another post letting you know if this fixes this problem as well.
The hardest part was trying finding the screws, there are some covered by rubbers, plastic pieces glued, that took some time, there are a lot of screws, much more than needed to hold the console together imo. Once you remove all the screws, the front part and the black cover for the gamecube controller ports, you'll be able to remove the top part and then you'll see the Wii as it is in this video.
people are bitching way too much about that noise in these coments but have you heard the xbox 360 elite that shit has a loud fan and makes that noise. now thats annoying
I did this fix, but have a question. You know that silver plate that covers the entire wii system. While taking it off it broke. Do you guys know if this piece is of any importance? Or is it just there to protect the wii?
oh ok thanks. mine does the smae thing but ot as bad. its only when i start plating the actual game and the main loading starts happenening when my wii begins to get noisy. still, not sure what it could be, but ile try this method:)
I made the 'modification' more than one week ago, played many times and it seems there are no side effects so far... and much better now without the annoying noise :)
my wii spits out the disc and it makes a weird noise Help?

@Edgey80 by perfume do you mean the stuff taht smells good or is that a kind of cleaning liquid i'm not farmiliar with???
cause perfume doesn't sound very healthy for the console and it will smell like perfume all the time

@2781990
Try 2-3 times, but if the problem is not solved, I recommend you replace your disc drive. Please reply to see if your problem is solved.

I just saw your video, you go straight to the point of the noise (I couldn't identify where it was coming from exactly). Thanks for the info ;)
bowser256 3 years ago
I basically poked the screw driver around until the noise got worst :P.

Just wanted to let you know, I got a screwdriver, for 97 cents, and tried this.
It ended up not working, My drive must have some other problem.
Thanks anyways, it was worth a shot.

Glad it helped ;)
See the annotations I put, you should try to roll up some tape and put it between the pieces to make sure the metal plate will not fall.
bowser256 3 years ago
The tape would go between the pieces, right behind the released screw. I added some annotations, they shall make it easy to understand.

It looks like a heatsink, you could have some issues with overheating without this piece.

never on stand-by, only with the console turned on and a disc inside spinning (while playing, or at the wii menu)
