  • good job buddy

  • The inlays and binding are painted on.

  • lamewire.i love it,hahaha!

cool fart effect at 2:04 XP

    5 stars

  • is this bass good for hard rock?

  • lamewire lol

  • that looks and sounds like a kickass bass? how does the neck play? I have a precision bass and i know that j bass and p bass necks are different,

  • precision necks are fatter for more accuracy

jazz bass necks are thinner for better speed

  • @motleysixx666 go into a guitar store and play one for yourself. im personaly a p-bass player and i love this thing...hate j-bass necks but the satin finish on the back is to die for hehe...anyway play one for yourself and find out.

  • Actually you can just use your thumb. It would be a much easier transition than using the fingers.

If you like the sound of using a pick there is nothing wrong with that either. Good playing and thanks for the demo. I just ordered this bass yesterday. Peace.

  • how does it sound with fingers?

  • how much does it costs?

  • about $300 it's depend if you buy it on internet

  • 280 most places.

thought i'd add that because I'm the stingy type of person that would want to know that

  • this is probably the best bass in the squier selection to "frankenstien" the body is a rare maple not seen in many basses in the fender selection (deff not at this price) and by swapping off the pickups, hammers, and the bridge you could have a freaking badass guitar.

  • can you tell me what type of strings you use?

  • i recommend Ernie Ball strings. They have a huge variety of gauges, and they last a really long time.

  • DR fat beams are superior IMO

  • Curt Mangan Nickelwound strings, made in the U.S.A by non automated machine techniques. Run about $20, very good strings, better than Ernie crap ball or DRs

  • awesome review! very useful, going to pick one up

  • Wonderful instrument, it really is a steal for the price you pay.

  • I love those black inlays! In my opinion, by taking out the Squier control panel and pickups and replacing them with Fender pickups and control panel, it'd really do it!

  • I have exactly same bass.

  • your voice sound pretty much similar to the singer of ''bloodhound gang''!

it would be amazing if you record yourself covering ''foxtrot uniform charlie kilo''! or any song of bloodhound gang!

    :)

  • i put the fender knobs on... replaced the black pickup screws with chrome screws..and added the fingur rest....and it looks so awsome now!

  • finger rest :O nice idea with the knobs and the screws though.

  • lol..i dont use it i just put it there 4 looks

  • oh cool, yeh i dont relly see the point in them.

  • That tone kicks ass !!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • i want to play that bass.. where in the philippines i can buy that.. i dont see that style in the philippines huhuhu.. pm me in youtube if you know where to buy it

  • yea unfortunately thats true for all single coils. Although they have the best clean tone to them, they do give off a little hum(buzz) playing.

  • Thought it sounded so good that I ordered one and it arrived today.

However whilst I love the look, feel and sound of it I am having a problem with buzzing. If I turn one pickup up it really buzzes however when I turn the other one up and have both on fully the buzzing stops and seems to cancel each other out. Any advice from anyone? Is this just a problem with single-coil jazz basses? can it be fixed?

  • Mightn't it somehow be the amp or something? Mine doesn't have these symptoms.

  • Im pretty sure its because they're both single coil pickups and it creating alot of noise unless you mute the strings when your not playing. Thats what usually happens on lower end single coils.

To reduce noise you should either upgrade instrument cables. (vox, Monster Cables, DiMarzio)

Or upgrade the pickups to noiseless ones.

(Fender Noiseless Cobalt, Fender Vintage Noiseless)

  • All single coil pickups buzz - the buzz is cancelled out by the other pickup when it is turned up.

You can shield the control cavity and pickup routs with thin copper sheet. It might help. also ensure the ground connection to the bridge is still there (does your buzz go away if you touch the metal control plate?).

Easier to get a set of noiseless pickups! EMG do a jazz set with a noise cancelling coil in each pickup, as do bartolini. Both make excellent sounds, with no hum!

    Have fun.

  • original strings ?? because mine give me a fucking creaking sound

  • in my opinion j's sound better alone, but p's sound better in the mix

  • totaly agree dude. P-basses hve that sort of idk growl and byte to them, especialy hot rodded pu's that's all i'll use for my band is precision for that reason.

  • thats my next bass right there

  • this is a gear demo, a very well done one at that, whether the dude plays with a pick or fingers matters not. good work man on the vid.

  • the tone is comepltely different but ok then

  • Dude, i have this bass, and have for a while, ive played other basses worth £300 more than the squire vm but in my opinion it still sounds the best of all ive tried. But dude, your vid is an embarrasment, play with your fingers, lose the pic.

  • Twat.

  • Thats good to know, since I'm not a bass player.

  • dude next time u comment, please be sure about what you're talking about. he isnt showing off his skills. hes just demoing what the bass sounds like. so please take ur stupidity somewhere else.

and to the maker of the video, thanks for uploading - im looking forward to buying this bass and this video has improved feedback on it. thanks and 5 stars for u =]

  • Thanks. Its a great playing bass, I'm sure a REAL bass player would melt the camera with thier hot licks, I had to tame my skillz for the camera.

  • i own this bass and i have owned other more expensive basses over the last 7 years and i havent been happier with a bass ever... i have played the $1000 jbass that looks exactly like this and i can say that while the VM isnt as good as the more expensive one, for 700 bucks less, its pretty damn amazing.

is there a pick up upgrade for this? or would getting another, more expensive Fender be the better upgrade? im assuming the wood makes more of a difference than the pick ups...

  • what amp are you playing this on man?

  • D.I. (direct in) into a presonus eureka preamp. So this is the uncolored, natural sound of the bass.

  • thnx bro im definately gonna pick this up wen i get the money..

cant believe i went this long w/out knowin how much more versatile a j-bass was.

  • Wow I can't believe they can make an affordable bass with that sound. I've never heard black beauties either. I think I just came.

  • it is an awesome bass i have one and i really love it i would say to anyone that wants to buy it, you will not be upset

  • I have this bass ^_^

    Its my first one

and as far as I know its awesome.

  • o i would also be paying a little over 300$

    that a good price??

  • hey im thinking of getting this bass

either this or a mexican manufactured lower end fender jazz bass

    which 1 should i get??

and is that a real wood grain finnish?

is their much fret buzz too??

  • To Palynchuk93:

    Hey,

You were probably asking the guy in the video that question but I also own this exact Squire. Between this and a lower ended run-of-the-mill Fender, I'd still pick this. I've had it for a long while and I don't think I could ever get tired of it. When comparing a standard Mexican Fender and the crown jewel of Squire, buying the Fender seems like you'd only be getting it for the name 'Fender' and nothing else. I think it's a real wood grain, and there is no buzz. :)

  • im pretty sure it is real wood grain too, cos in the specs it says it has a basswood body with ash laminates (i own the squire VM telebass)

  • that is cool bass! thats probably gonna be my next bass.

  • I have it its as good as a mid range Fender. I played it against a Relic Jazz Bass going for a grand and I actually like the feel of this one better. Its so smooth like a girls bottom ya know? The Actions set a bit to high but you get used to it. Im going to hot rod mine soon =)

  • its a squier. its a subsidiary of fender

  • no shit it sais Squier by Fender on the head stock lol but thanks anyway

  • wow, what a bass.

  • I checked this bass out at my local store and it's sweet. This bass with a different decal on it would cost double or triple the price. Squire hit a home run with this bass. Thanks for showing it off. Best $279 bass on the market.

  • 2:18-2:26 mike dirnt 70's custom sound...fucking awesome tone bro

  • I'm thinking of getting this bass but i would like to know where this bass was craftd from. Can you please tell me? Thanks

  • Indonesia (did I spell that right?) but it's solid wood and looks great in person. The quality really shows when you hold it and most importantly when you're playing it.

  • I JUST traded in my MIM Fretless J-bass today for this bass in the video and I COULDN'T BE MORE HAPPY.

The tone is unreal and the price, you just cannot beat. Though the Squier decal hurts to have lol, the tone speaks for itself. If you don't have one of these basses yet or you are just starting out, THIS IS THE BASS FOR YOU! Buy it at as store though, as fenders bought over the net tend to have neck issues =(

Keep rocking dude! Thanks for posting a demo!

  • yes but can u use it for more punk/rock and roll shit, ive seen what this thng can do to blues/jazz/slap and shit, it pwns, but im gonna be auditioning for a variety of bands and i need to know if this thing is versatile enough for tht...i need a fucking war machine

  • well it's made after the 70's style ones so naturally it's going to be designed for slap and such. If you pick, it sounds pretty nice, my only complaint is that (understandably) the low end could be a bit thicker, but that doesn't mean it's absent. The brightness is really noteworthy and totally worth it, making overdrive and fuzz sound really good with it =)

    At $270, it's definitely worth a shot

  • thanks man, ive been gettin into a lot of funk, jazz, blues shit and not as much punk tryn to expand my knowledge. im def gettin this bass it fuckin rocks...soon as i get another 100 bucks im pickin her up

  • sheez that one sounds good the one at my music store sounds horrible

  • What did you play it through?

  • Wow the middle pickup sounds very precisionish

  • i think it sounds pretty cool. even though i'm an anti-squier man :)

  • I own this exact bass .....It kicks ass for a Squier Bass. Just as good as the $400-$1,000 Fender basses. A good bass for the money.

  • Is there a significant difference between the squire jazz bass and the regular fender jazz basses?

From the pictures and videos they look and sound the same. But there is a 300 dollar price gap between the two.

  • I'm no bass player, I just play one on youtube. Thanks for the tip! I guess only great bass players like yourself use fingers?

  • oh ok then

    ta.

    cool

    sound...

  • I played a Squire bass at the store and pretty impressed with it. The sales guys always try to push people towards $429-500+ Fenders, but that's because they're on commission. I like them. About the video, Good playing, dude.

  • hahah is this making fun of the gearwire guy?

"but you can probably tell that..."

    hahahha

    anyways nice bass

  • Yeah F Gearwire.

  • Muting! - LEARN.

    Otherwise awesome bass.

  • muting what? MY BIG MOUTH?

  • i've had this bass for about a month...im absolutly in love with it!...i play through an ampeg ba115 and it sounds amazing...cant go wrong...the VM P-bass is great too

  • I have to get one of those now...

  • hey ima go test out that bass this weekend, but i wanted to know if it is heavy (weight). Cause i know some fenders are heavy.

  • Its pretty heavy, but I'm not sure if weighs the same as a FENDER. Go try one and see is prolly the only way to know for sure.

  • I've heard that the squier is heavier than a original Fender!

  • love the shirt lol. kickass bass,i'm thinking of buying the vintage moified P-bass,can anyone reccomend it?

  • the P-bass rocks...I've been using it for a year, and it's a really great bass for its price...buy it^^

  • This is definitely one of the sweetest basses out right now. When I played bass in a band, I always wanted a natural finished Jazz Bass with block inlays like that, and wow, Squier pulled through and made this dream machine a reality. It seems to sound freakin sweet as well.
