  • Awesome music

  • NEDM

  • omg nooooo, lol the ps1 music fits much better lol

  • {WARNING!} Controversial opinion! {WARNING!}

90s shooters = Lightning-fast, adrenaline-pumping, pulse-pounding action, rewarding secrets and a MASSIVE variety of enemies and weapons! And only taking up a few megabytes, which was made by only a handful of people!

2000-present: Take cover, Play a shooting gallery of generic enemies. wash, rinse, repeat. Tank characters (health regen!). Gimmicks like vehicles only added here and there and the main interesting parts are the cutscenes and story!

  • @Arwingpilot

I find just the opposite is true to be honest. Well, except modern shooters tend to be more realistic, what with cover and you know, strategy. Beyond "DODGE A FUCKING FIREBALL"

This isn't to take away from this game at all, I love the shit outta doom, but let's be honest with ourselves, it's slower, less realistic(although that's a point of taste rather than anything else) and has far fewer weapons than modern shooters. Pretty much the opposite of what you're saying.

  • @kaithekender

Hey, that's YOUR opinion! I like older shooters MUCH better than modern. But hey, I accept that's what you like! (Hence why I said my opinion above might be controversial!) If we all did and liked the EXACT same things, we'd all be a uniminded society of robots!

  • @Arwingpilot

No, I'm not trying to say that you're wrong for liking a certain game better, just pointing out that you must play some weird modern FPS games if you think they're slow and there aren't many guns, lol

  • @kaithekender

Oh, don't worry, mate! I always just say things like that, hoping to be polite! (If you know me, you'd be used to this!) Don't worry! I didn't take offense to ANYTHING you said! I was just stating that I accept your opinion! (Let's face it, a LOT of YouTube doesn't take kindly to different opinions!)

  • Any game where you can re-enact the Mini-gun scene from Predator while listening to MIDI renditions of Pantera is aces in my book.

  • Not complete unless you add this music (E1M2 Nuclear Plant) watch?v=AzzFQsirMbA

  • WOLFESTEIN OWNS DOOM KILLS AND QUAKE PAWNS THE REST CAN SUCK MY DICK

  • If anyone asks me "CoD or Halo?" I will definitely always say DOOM.

  • One of the songs from DOOM supposedly sampled Metallica's "No Remorse." Anyone know which one that is?

  • @SotDStudios247 It's the first song of the first game actually, E1M1 - At Doom's Gate

  • Anyone know which sound card this music was recorded using?

  • Best FPS ever, period. :p

  • I always found this game impossibly disorienting and confusing to navigate when I was younger...but then I've always had terrible sense of direction. That kind of added to the sense of dread and immersion overall to the game for me.

Good thing I got better as I got older.

  • your 2 minutes of playing are 2 hours of my childhood :)

  • I don't remember Doom looking this dated when I finished it back in the day...

  • SNES sounds better than the PC or 32x.

  • my favorite song from doom was always COMMAND CONTROL

  • anyone want to play doom with me on xbox live no one plays anymore,i play doom everywehre, on my iphone my computer but no one plays on xbla anymore :(

  • @Iamnotapunk i play doom 2 in xbox 360

  • I head chuck norris checks his closet for the doom guy before going to bed

    is that true?

  • isnt that the cyber demon theme at 6:50? i'd always crap my pants when that level started and you could here the cyberdemons loud footsteps trudging around the play field!

  • OMFG! A Pantera song @ 5:35 ! Mouth of War

  • Man, you have my respect.

  • the music of the gods

  • I remember getting in trouble at recess in 1st grade because me and my friend were playing Doom, and we used a red marker to draw blood on ourselves for the "battle damage". Freaked everyone the hell out when they saw us.

  • THAT is challenging game!

  • Metallica "No Remorse" 1:09. No wonder I loved this song so much as a kid.

  • The Games i grew up with Doom...and Duke Nukem 3D

  • There are but 3 words to be said;

    RIP AND TEAR!

...it's from the infamous comic, in case you're wondering.

  • im 6 years old with my moms work computer all over again >:) hehe she didnt even know I could install games in DOS and play them, she thought I couldnt even turn the thing on. oh 1993, how EPIC you were. Basically my mom gave me her computer from work because it "didnt work" she taught me how to draw in paint....haha...I promptly hunted down everything from DOOM, warcraft, Duke nukem 3d, wolfenstein, blake stone, red baron oh goddd it was legendary you should of been there!!! ;)

  • they used music from other songs dur

  • I just realized, alot of the music from Doom sounds like Rammstein! This must be where Rammstein got their inspiration. You know what else? I just realized that one of Rammstein's songs actually has sound effects directly lifted from Doom in it!

  • 1:10

    My friggin favorite part

  • this game was YEARS ahead of everything else at the time, to call it groundbreaking would be a massive understatement. first pc game that actually immersed you in the experience, and gave you goosebumps if you played it alone or in the dark. this practically introduced the modern survival-horror suspense experience to pc gaming... i mean there was alone in the dark which is the true pioneer in that category but for modern gaming as far as the masses are concerned, this set the precedent.

  • @hazmat151

The only problem with alone in the dark was that it was hilarious and not scary.

  • hell yeah!!! e1m1!!! bang your head till death!!!

  • Doom made the shotgun standard for ANY FPS game.

  • i'll admit, this game gave me nightmares i'll never recover from.. IDKFA!! IDKFA!!

  • Is that an actual person playing, or a program?

  • @DevonWhorton It's a person doing a speed run. Playing like that takes a lot of practice and knowledge of the map and weapon and item locations. I used to be able to play a few of the levels like that but not through an entire episode like this guy. I think he's playing on ultra violence too, so that makes it even more ridiculous.

  • @H1MMLERH1MSELF

it's actually "nightmare", but everything else you said was spot on. If it were UV he probably would never drop below 80% health lol

  • iddqd

  • Freaking A, Garudoh - I had to work up to 271 to find Doom? How long until Doom 2? Thanks for uploading all of the tracks, man. You got me subscribed!

  • BEST. FREAKING. THING. EVER.

  • Wow, the SNES version sounds FAR better than this one!

  • It almost sounds like 16 bit metallica, I swear I heard master of puppets in there

  • @jrmenard630

    It is,

All the tracks in both classic DooM games are slightly edited pieces of old tracks of bands like Megadeth, Slayer, Metallica and such put together.

Search for Megadeth - Hangar 18, there are 2 different doom tracks made out of that.

  • best ever list:

    shooter: doom

    rts: starcraft

    adventure: monkey island

    rpg: baldurs gate II

  • @coulthard1984 You have good taste.

  • @coulthard1984 Replace Starcraft with Command and Conquer and that's one damn fine list.

  • You missed level 4 in doom 1 knee deep in the dead. The military base is soo fun.

I don't know what that last map was, but it seemed fun. It might be one of the expantions, Shores of hell.

There are two exits in level 3, one goes to the next level, one adds a level to the list.

  • BERSERKER PACK!!

  • What was used here to make the MIDI sound like this?

  • @Doom2Guy Might be an updated MIDI.

Yes, MIDI does updated sounds sometimes, but still sound like crap :P

  • Classic music :), Awesome!

  • This sounds like an electronic emulation of heavy music.

  • Hey, what soundcard/soundfont did this use? I'm digging it.

  • The Music Re-dubs shipping with Ultimate Doom for the PSX give a much different feel

  • 1:08 !!!

Every first-level music should set a great mood for the game. In DOOM, that mood is "I've got a big ol' gun and I'm ready to kick some undead, demonic ass." This is every bit as much a favorite of mine as the first-level music of DESCENT, which is just as good in its own way.

  • IDDQD and IDKFA gave me the best fun ever.

  • for some reason, i look at the graphics on this game, and it just reminds me of playing duke nukem 64

  • Lol!

Did you know that Duke Nukem 64 was a censored version of Duke Nukem 3D which was on the PC and PSX? Even though, it's still a good game.

    -kidThunder

  • Yeah, the porn shop on the PC is a gun shop on the 64. And when me and my friend tried to play it, we got stuck on one of the early levels. We could not find whatever switch needed to be hit, or whatever needed to be done. It's been years since I played it... But it was frustrating. I prefer the PC version. Not only the classic Duke 3D, but the newer engine ports are nice too, like Duke Plus and all that.

  • Sad that 'Demons on the prey' were not included here.

  • Doom music was soo much better than Doom II. Unbeatable!!

  • But Doom II had "Them Bones" by Alice in Chains!

  • Doom/Doom2 were my teen years. I played the series in and out so many times theres really nothing I can say about it at this point other than I loved everything about it. IMO all the current day FPS games are just not as fun as this one was for me. Now they make everything too straight forward, its more about having good aim than it is searching through catacombs and avoided getting overran by waves and waves of bad guys. Everything is just too linear now.

  • Whats the name of the Song at 4:25?

  • it's seems to be "the demons from adrian's pen"...

    doom's music are so amazing!

  • At Last! Someone who knows what they're talking about!

    Thank you Ryzmaker11

  • NEDM.

  • You didn't went fo the secret level on episode one.

  • GGM - Great General MIDI. GM was my first music production tool.

  • Damn it's good! Great job ripping off those Metallica songs, Bobby! I thought Doom would never show up on the list...

Seriously though, gotta love these, especially the second song, "At Doom's Gate".

  • killer track from 6:52

  • well fuck it all, i guess it rlly is time to get doom on my pc see you on the other side guys P:

  • ownage

  • Aaaah, nothing like steaming piles of pixellated flesh in the morning.

His "I'm almost dead bleedy-face" always freaked me out when I was little, and so did his looking from side to side thing with his eyes. I'm such a loser XD Nothing else did that. The square blood spray made me laugh and shooting undead space marine splat though teleporters was almost like a minigame to me.

  • The scream when the Doomguy dies gets me every time as well.

  • @SourGummiWurm Me too man, was scared when his almost dead bleedy-face show out. The pink demons too, the blackout stage ... This game give me a immersion state that an 3d full hd game of today can´t give me. But I think it was because my age....

  • MIDI rock music, HELL YEAH!

  • Are these like world record speed runs or something? This is NUTS. He just blew through episode 1 in the time it probably takes me to beat the first 2 levels.

    ...oh yeah, love the music!!

  • This guy's damn fast, but I don't know if it's a record since he goes out of his way to get extra weapons and power ups. Still an amazing run with great music. Though I've always thought that the chain gun/mini gun looked ridiculous. I had a Robocop cap gun that looked just like it.

  • Comment removed

  • KICK-ASS!

  • god damn...this guys good! I couldn't do that...Ive played that freaking game hundreds of times..

  • The music in the original is great dont get me wrong, But I just prefer the PSX ost

    really atmospheric and scary

  • Just freaking Awesome, Good music and a good game <.< perfect ;D

  • At 9:25 WTF was with Doomguy's expression.

  • if you shoot alot then he puts an evil grin on his face. same if you pick up a new gun

  • No, I was referring to when the marine dropped his jaw in total shock. And I know it happens when you simutaneously pick up a new weapon and pick up a health item.

  • o in tht case i know what your talking about but i dont know why it happens... i always figured it happens if you get shot in the butt or something lol

  • Whenever Im at the E1 boss I dont use chainguns I use rocketlaunchers!

  • Hm, it seems that my sound card sucked. The music coming from my PC was never as sophisticated as in this video.

    Loved that game. ;-)

  • @ElseRipley (late reply xD) The music in these old games were usually in midi format (not entirely sure about this game, but I think it is). midi was really easy, but each sound card interprets it slightly differently so thinking your sound card sucked is a pretty good guess.

  • For anyone that loves the music from Doom, I feel I should point out that, for the Panasonic 3DO port of DooM, the music was remastered as actual recorded audio with REAL instruments! There's a video of it here: /watch?v=EhadJjiBF2I

  • I could never do speed runs like this. Two reasons. One, I freak out in shooter games. Two, I like to collect EVERYTHING. Never know when I'll need something.

  • I too collect everything, but worse still, I have such a hard time USING the stuff I find. I'll walk around with full plasma ammo the whole game, "just in case I need it later".

  • oh man, and the score at 7:00 is causing me to trip balls at work right now.

  • whoever is playing in the garudoh videos is spot on with every single maneuver in every single game. there isnt a flaw in any of them. this shit is so pro to watch and listen to.

  • I love how you just blazed through Ep.1

  • what version of doom is this

  • Looks like the PC version run on an enhanced source port.

  • IDDQD and IDDKFA <3

  • a,aha.ok.

  • love the face when he gets a new gun

  • NEDM.

  • holy shit, fastest doom gamer ever.

  • Does that invisible in Doom really do anything?

  • Monsters can still see you, but they can't target you precisely. Most of their attacks will not hit you unless by accident, when they randomly spit their fireballs or fire their guns in every direction.

  • What is the first part called?

  • Interlude from doom

  • From 3:27 to 4:25 That song reminds me of a song from OutRun called ''Shake the Street''

  • Actually, I think that Prince was inspired by AC DC's "Big Gun" while making this track and some people say that it's even a tribute to the band.

  • I know there isn't a true connection between the song I said and the one playing, and yes,I did notice similarities between that song and the one by AC DC.Anyway, almost every song from Doom was inspired by a song, normally from Pantera, but other bands as well.

  • PRINCE MADE THIS?NO WAY!

  • No, not the Prince that made "Kiss" and "Controversy"! I meant Bobby Prince, the guy who made the soundtrack for the old DooM games.

  • 5:15 when i've little boy and play doom, i scared that track =( Now it's freaky fun, to think it.

  • Lmao I found it so cool when I heard all the real songs that were used in the game when I got older... pure bad ass game

  • Oh, I miss playing this. I got the Collector's Edition right before getting my PC. But Vista refuses to run it for some reason. :(

The music alone is worth finding a workaround for. But you left out the creepiest parts of soundtrack - E1M5 and E1M7. I mean, kudos on adding "Tower of Babel" (6:51), but those tunes, whose names escape me, always chilled me to the bone.

  • Search on Google for "ZDoom" -- As long as you have the .wad files that came with your collector's edition, it's totally free.

  • Thank you. I still have the disc, so I should be set.

  • E1M5 is called "suspense" and E1M7 is called "Demon on the prey"

  • 1:08 thats the best track ever ! Think Id Software should have put this one in to Doom 3 :)

  • my band plays that song live on stage and everyone says its the best song we play. the voxals include idspispopd screamed in the chorus.

  • Would love to see the lyrics to the song :D

  • NEDM!

  • I love this music. It sounds so heavy metal. *blush*

  • A friend tricked me into playing this at one point. I loudly reminded him why I don't do well in first-person shooters. (i.e. I freaked out in the tutorial level.)

  • lmao

  • Exactly.

  • The one at 1:09 is my favorite.

  • So was this game the birth of FPSs? The music rocks for videogame music 1993!

  • Wolfenstein 3D was released before this, but Doom made the popularity of the fps genre skyrocket.

  • actually this isnt its original sound, this is a much different sounding midi.

Its not the synths they used originally in dos doom.

  • It's the same MIDI track being played -- what you're hearing that's different is that most people who played Doom on DOS had a Soundblaster/Adlib compatible soundcard with an OPL2 or OPL3 soundchip. The OPL2/3 soundchip uses FM synthesis instead of wavetable synthesis (which is what you're hearing here, and is what virtually every major OS and soundcard have used since Windows 95/98).

I'm with you, though -- I prefer the original sound. It might be just nostalgia, but it has character.

  • Yes, yes, and yes. The windows version sounds polished and sterile. I wish the poster would upload a dos version of this music.

  • shit this owns, i love that music, it was my game of young times :-), much better gameplay than Doom 3 ^^, I realy recommede this game to every dude who want nice FPS !

  • who was doing the speedrun?

  • Actually some of the game music is inspired by metallica. E1M1 is like "no remorse" from metallica. Im sure there is more too

  • so, im hearing metallica, and pantera on there.

metallica: 3:39 (lol, sounds like master of puppets)

Pantera: 5:36 (totally sounds like mouth for war)

  • Well now that you mention it I really should go and listen to these songs.

  • on the snes though it is very laggy when you play it and on PC it would run smoothly.

  • people underrate the 32x port the snes port is also missing some levels the controls suck and so do the grafx

  • BEST GAME EVER!!!!!

  • I love doom. Best game ever. But we all know that the music was better on the snes then on the pc...Cant say the same for the graphics though...

  • I'm fairly sure this video is missing a channel of sound. Whether that's youtube's fault or your editing, it gimps some of the songs here.

  • Youtube turns normal def vids to mono by default, try adding "&fmt=18" at the end of the address to make it stereo.

  • Wow, the game I judged all first person shooters on until goldeneye came out.... simply fantastic! If you have played halo without playing doom, I feel you do not understand how far we have come.

  • funny how the guitar is replaced by cynth, love those typical 80ths speed metal loops.

  • Thanks for adding doom, ! :)

  • One of the best game soundtracks ever.

  • 'Bout damn time you got to Doom!
