Couldn't watch the whole thing...This car is junk straight from the factory...Sister had bought a 2009 new and damn near killed her half a dozen times...Drive the car and at around 250 + miles, all the nights on the dash came on and car powered down...People have been T-Boned and found themselves facing oncoming traffic because of the traction control, which I absolutly hated on both the Lexus's I sold...Never have heard what really went wrong with Toyota, but tehy got a lot of work to do...

No point in this car, it's OLD technology. A diesel car can achieve 70mpg and better performance which is why I didn't pay twice as much for a heavy hybrid. Town speed limit in the UK is 30mph, so why only allow batteries to run it up to 25mph, it defeats the object. The batteries last for 5 miles in EV mode which is terrible. When you first drive, the engine warms up for a few miles - he forgot to say that, even in EV Mode. So short trips use the engine! It's not worth buying yet.

A clean diesel is better in almost everyway. Plus you arent stuck in some eco-car and you can have fun with a clean diesel because you get mountains of torque and you can have a manual gearbox

Diesels are way worse, they're heavy noisy and uncool and if you haven't noticed a diesel has no spark plugs so the compression when the fuel ignites there's 3000psi thus wearing the piston head far more than a petrol car so 8 years you need to replace them or keep them with a shitty engine. It's true and you can't argue with it.
@toyotaprius79 First of all Im a diesel mechanic so I kinda know what I am talking about when it comes to a diesel engine so there is no need to patronize me. I know diesel engines are heavier that is because they use compression as a constant rather than a spark. You do not need to replace the piston head that often. Truck drivers can go well over a million miles on their engines and they do not have their pistons replaced every few hundred thousand miles.

On a 1600cc Ford Focus diesel turbo I get 0-60mph in 10s and 50mpg without trying in the town. That includes heavy acceleration and full boost. Why doesn't the prius have a diesel engine? Diesels are tough and go forever. I have had NO repair bills as I suffered with petrol engines. Switch to Diesel for power and economy, forget hybrid.

@LoveandEqualityToAll compare the equivalent year level diesel Golf or Focus (that sized car) and Prius, i think you'll find that the diesels produce better mileage and are similar if not better purchase price than a Prius. and they are better to drive, better to own, better build quality and less harmful to eyes.
The Prius could be a great car or a horrible car depending on what you do with it. If you have a job where you just need to get from you house to your ofice the it will probably save you thousands of dollars in the long run. But if you have a job such as construction or anything related then it won't be able to haul lumber and tow trailers. And your buddies at the construction site will make fun of you too :)

Well those are very debatable questions. I do not know about durability but yes (most) hybrids cut fuel costs noticeably. Still they are more expensive and Im guessing are a bit more attention requiring. Good luck.

Aveo is a POS from Korea. Many owners Prius's are reporting 50+mpg. Personally I never had trouble getting the mileage rated by the EPA's old std. except a couple early 2000 model Explorer's which sucked gas like no tomorrow. I have a 2WD '91 Explorer that to this day still get 23mpg on the highway with 233K miles on it. I had a Scion xA that got 41mpg easily in the summer, I believe the old EPA rating was 39mpg.
Old govt. EPA estimates netted the Prius at 60 mpg city and 51 mpg highway. The government saw how unrealistic EPA tests were, consisting of highway speeds limited to 55mph & acceleration of only 3.3 mph per second. The new tests which affect all 2008+ models give a much more realistic rating with highway speeds of 80mph & acceleration of 8mph per second, dropping the Priuss EPA down by 25 percent to an average of 45mpg. This now puts the Prius in with Chevy Aveo, which costs less then half.

they should somehow take the regenerative braking technology and apply something similar to the rear wheels. Once the vehicle gets moving (either using the petrol or electric motor) say above 25MPH, then the generators on the rear wheels start producing electricity for the electric motor and the batteries, and theyd save alot of weight by using Lithium Ion batteries, and Li-Ion batteries produce more power
Once toyota does something along those lines, then id consider getting a prius
they allready use that technology on the front wheels. Regenerative braking is the only thing that actually saves energy, otherwise lost as heat. If you were to have a generator running constantly on the rear wheels, you'd have to apply more power to drive the car, and thereby waste more energy.
they allready have. At least here in Europe, they are available with solar-panel roofs, so that the a/c fans run, even when the vehicle is parked, running only on solar power.
The Prius is the ultimate disposable car! Perfect for our drive through lifestyle. The car is worthless after the battery is dead($9k). Not to mention manufacturing of or disposing of the battery.

Not 50 hp but more like just over 130hp. With 50+ mpg, American muscle isn't efficient enough. Well, we're not all made of money, so saving gas, saves money for the rest of us. That's why I'm getting a 2010 Camaro. It gets nearly 30mpg. Finally, these American cars are being like Asian: efficient... too bad it's clumsy, too. Oh well... american, can't get 'em all...
The only thing I can think of is there's so many different options with the V comapred to III and IV that it could overload the fuses. However, seeing Toyota's page, special orders can be taken. I would think that this would include the sunroof. go to toyota, prius hybrid options and it's in the fine print. I hope this helps.
i was going to get one but i searched on the internet there is possibility plug in hybird in 2012 .. so i better wait and they will use the lithin battery as well.

@BudleighSaltertonBoy Well said. I have been converted to diesel cars in the UK. They are cheaper to tax and insure than petrol and some hybris cars. On a 1600cc Ford Focus diesel turbo I get 0-60mph in 10s and 50mpg without trying in the town. That includes heavy acceleration and full boost. Why doesn't the prius have a diesel engine? Diesels are tough and go forever. I have had NO repair bills as I suffered with petrol engines. Switch to Diesel for power and economy, forget hybrid.

@urbex2007 Exactly!! Plus the hybrids need to replace their batteries every 5 or so years. And in these batteries are precious metals which cost a fortune to mine and is very un-ecological. So while the car may appear to be healing the planet as it drives by, it does more environmental damage in the long run than a big gas-guzzling V8 engine. Diesel is the way!!

@toyotaprius79 thats why Diesel engines are made out of stronger metal, so you shouldn't have to replace anything for well over 150,000 miles, while prius batteries are made out of nickel and other materials much harder to source and produce such side effects as acid rain. sounds good! or you could be smart, save your money and wait until the Honda FCX Clarity comes out. yes its just as dirty as a Prius to make but 0 emissions once its on the road... Hybrid is a blind mans car.

@LoveandEqualityToAll what about the fact that, though its not high production and use due to cost of manufacturing, the fact that Lithium Ion batteries can be used instead of the one you find in your car. if your that concerned about the environment, you'd buy a diesel and specify that you want a lithium ion battery. and you wouldn't have such luxury items as mobile phones. i just hate Priuses because they are false advertising and look silly.

People should know if they buy a 10 year old automobile that is small and light will have about the same MPG with out the waste it produces by manufacturing but wait what about safety? It does not have all modern safety feature as the new prius has most people dont care about that but i do for me that is first then MPG comes second, environmental harm and last the price. A prius is cheap at 21,000. I plan to buy a certify used one.

The Prius could be a great car or a horrible car depending on what you do with it. If you have a job where you just need to get from you house to your ofice the it will probably save you thousands of dollars in the long run. But if you have a job such as construction or anything related then it won't be able to haul lumber and tow trailers. And your buddies at the construction site will make fun of you too :)

Well those are very debatable questions. I do not know about durability but yes (most) hybrids cut fuel costs noticeably. Still they are more expensive and Im guessing are a bit more attention requiring. Good luck.

believe it or not its posible to get a prius all the way up to 30 mph. you just have to drop it from a hellicopter. oh yeah and you have to push the "POWER MODE" button to make it fall faster than 15 miles an hour. Aveo is a POS from Korea. Many owners Prius's are reporting 50+mpg. Personally I never had trouble getting the mileage rated by the EPA's old std. except a couple early 2000 model Explorer's which sucked gas like no tomorrow. I have a 2WD '91 Explorer that to this day still get 23mpg on the highway with 233K miles on it. I had a Scion xA that got 41mpg easily in the summer, I believe the old EPA rating was 39mpg.

Old govt. EPA estimates netted the Prius at 60 mpg city and 51 mpg highway. The government saw how unrealistic EPA tests were, consisting of highway speeds limited to 55mph & acceleration of only 3.3 mph per second. The new tests which affect all 2008+ models give a much more realistic rating with highway speeds of 80mph & acceleration of 8mph per second, dropping the Priuss EPA down by 25 percent to an average of 45mpg. This now puts the Prius in with Chevy Aveo, which costs less then half.

The common misconseption is that hybid cars like the Honda Insight are copying the design of the prius, but in fact it is a german design that gives you the most aerodinamic/ efficient use of wind resistance. they should somehow take the regenerative braking technology and apply something similar to the rear wheels. Once the vehicle gets moving (either using the petrol or electric motor) say above 25MPH, then the generators on the rear wheels start producing electricity for the electric motor and the batteries, and theyd save alot of weight by using Lithium Ion batteries, and Li-Ion batteries produce more power
Once toyota does something along those lines, then id consider getting a prius

they allready use that technology on the front wheels. Regenerative braking is the only thing that actually saves energy, otherwise lost as heat. If you were to have a generator running constantly on the rear wheels, you'd have to apply more power to drive the car, and thereby waste more energy.

Not 50 hp but more like just over 130hp. With 50+ mpg, American muscle isn't efficient enough. Well, we're not all made of money, so saving gas, saves money for the rest of us. That's why I'm getting a 2010 Camaro. It gets nearly 30mpg. Finally, these American cars are being like Asian: efficient... too bad it's clumsy, too. Oh well... american, can't get 'em all...

The only thing I can think of is there's so many different options with the V comapred to III and IV that it could overload the fuses. However, seeing Toyota's page, special orders can be taken. I would think that this would include the sunroof. go to toyota, prius hybrid options and it's in the fine print. I hope this helps.
