Guys....how come my rolla ae100 having the same 5A-FE engine redlines at 5200rpm ?? BTW...mines a JDM model and is a manual tranny (C50) and the top speed is probably limited to 180km/h cuz dat wot's max digits in speedometer. Plzz...help. And diz engine has done only 58000 KM !! And i run diz on octane-95.
@leotmobile Yes, the 4A-GE swap is very common. In fact, some AE101 Corolla sedans actually came out with the 4A-GE 20v Silvertop from factory. They are a JDM model called the Corolla GT. All you need is the engine, ECU and loom. You can use the same engine mounts and gearbox as you already have (although it's recommended to upgrade to a C56 gearbox as it has better ratios than the C50 or C52 gearbox). Sign up to ToyotaNation. There's loads of information on there in the 7th Gen Corolla forum.
@Cordia4G63T I called a shop around here and they sell me a 20v blacktop with tranny and ecu for $1500..they wont swap it tho..sound very cheap to me. A swap labor runs around 500-700 around my area. what you think?
@leotmobile $1500 sounds like a lot to me, but that may seem about right where you're from due to the availability of the parts. If you think that $2200 is worth it then by all means go ahead with the swap :). It'll be well worth it, even just for the sound alone. Good luck!
@jbeer82 As mentioned in my video description, the engine was being scrapped, therefore it was no use to anybody else. Might as well rev it to redline before it gets melted down. Some people suggested doing burnouts in it, but that would have been a real waste due to tire and clutch wear.
Okay I wanna know where you can get an engine swap??? I have a 96 rolla and want to get a dif eng but i have no idea where to look. JDM? or is that only hondas???
@iruleyounow What engine do you want? JDM stands for Japanese Domestic Market and relates to any car originally imported from Japan. A 4A-GE 20-valve for example is classed as a JDM motor as it only came in selected Japanese markets. Your best bet would be to try some JDM importers in your country. A few of them should pop up if you do a Google search.
@SkyThunder1 I agree, however it's better than a blown engine ;). The 5A-FE and 4A-FE engines don't make any power after about 5000rpm anyway, so going beyond the rev limiter in terms of performance is pointless.
@TRDCorolla3 I didn't do anything to it, apart from holding my foot on the accelerator, lol. The engine in the video had done 228,000km so maybe that had something to do with it. Although, I did try it once in with my new 60,000km engine and that hit 7,000rpm too. Is yours a Jap spec Corolla or a US spec Corolla? Maybe the ECUs are programmed slightly differently.
@Cordia4G63T Is it US spec prob, built in Canada actually (dont know if that has anything to do with it), but my is the 7afe, I was hoping you removed a rev limiter or some mod I could do, but maybe just the disp. makes the difference
