Nobody is EVER going to learn a martial art by watching on YouTube - get to a gym. It's too easy to pick up on the tiny errors that individual instructors may make - and then make comments because the guy doesn't check the kick in the way you would or breathes out louder than you do - everyone is different. All these vids should be doing is wetting your appetite for your next training session. Martial arts is a personal experience not a robotic exercise. Blimey.
@totokickbutt perhaps you should also learn to spell you retard. Unfortunately, breaking my jaw will not increase your understanding of my original comment. Carry on kicking butt though, i'm sure your fellow 'classmates' hold you in high esteem.
@Aightnigguh8D The same can be said to you, because it is the proper form of blocking, but he simply didn't keep tension in his lower leg so it got pushed backwards a bit. It's not unusual in sparring.
u know, if u just use a boxing combination after the low block, u can get three to four hits even faster. Leg kicks are good after a punch set up from a distance. But coming in close, boxing rules. I believe a good boxer w/ muay thai defense is the most devasting striker on two feet.
@aquin520-Ya but coming in close with punches will usually just result in you being in the clinch. That's why Thai's are statistically the best strikers. They typically have mediocre boxing but they are masters at clinching and kicking range and it's because if you are just slightly out of punching range they'll just kick you or if you get a little too close with hooks and uppercuts or if you throw a lot of straight punches they can just bridge off of those and clinch with you.
Yes block with shin. Your shins should be harder from conditioning them. You will still feel the pain, but it may be lessened from conditioning, and/or you will also be more tolerant to pain.
You're supposed to condition your body to be like iron in muay thai since much of your body will be used as a weapon. :D
kicking technique is carrying no power.. The kicking leg isnt straight enough with no power coming from the hips.. I kno its only sparring but there should at least be an intial snap to the kick..
I like the rhythm of the drill, and the idea behind answering with strikes in bunches vs. single retaliation counters. The only thing I am indifferent about is calling it a block. Not suggesting by any means that you don't what youre doing, I am just suggesting that its a means to check, deflect or to dissipate the energy of the strike. I personally could do with out all of the childish name calling and over zealous opinions, but hey, thats just me...
@lawman1971b thats MMA which is a sport which had rules that limits. For example the rules are geared to strikers yet you still the good guys are guys with balance. for example when not much action on the ground they stand the fight up but when not much action in standign they don't stop it and start down. Also the clinch these days they breaking up people so rev headed crowds are happy. Modern mma is like Judo comps to judo it will simply make vale tudo becoem a gimmick.
no no no.the only good ebout this video is the music.where is the movement, the wright distance, his hands when he is punchig are down the lows sometimes are not on target he doesn't turn his waist.wrong.everything s wrong
first of all if you want to be a mma fighter you have to be a a skilled striker 2 it´s not enough to be a bjj, roman greco wrestling expert, every fight starts as a standup fight, if you don´t have striking skills you are fucked sooner or later, that´s why is essential to be skilled in muay thai-,,the deadly art,,! every aspect of fighting is important!
@lawman1971b first off to be a good mma figther its not enough being a skilled striker you need grappling and whatever else gives you and advantage. If you just go into the ring or cage with skilled striking you'll get fucked sooner or later. Look at cro cop perfect example.
@lawman1971b The guys that do good have their main skill but they are all balanced. So fuck your mauy thai because most stuff in mauy thai wont even work you will have to adjust it big time. Also FACT straight 100% striker against 100% grappler wins 9 out of 10 times. look at the first UFC to see that fact.
@kalikaputra HELLOO, i said:,,EVERY ASPECT of fighting is important!,, , that means striking, grappling, bjj, roman greco, sambo, sooner or later everybody is fucked who is restricted in mma i was responding to a post cause a guy claimed striking and muay thai is useless in octagon, and of course the muay thai version that is been used in mma is slightly different then the classic muay thai, it´s more advanced for example the chute box style fighters who are restricted should stay away from mma
@kalikaputra i will repeat it again, EVERY ASPECT OF FIGHTING WITCH A FIGHTER CAN USE IN THE MMA SPORT IS IMPORTANT, if u want to compete , a good fighter is someone who is a good striker and skilled grappler a good allround fighter, u don´t have to tell me nothing about grappling, judo and bjj, cause i am a bjj blackbelt, u where the one who claimed that muay thai is bullshit and that u can´t use it in the octagon,....shogun is a pure example of a good bjj fighter with advanced MT skills!
whats that kick at the end of the combo? its a really useless kick... if you have your opponent bocking a quick barrage you should deffenetly go for something more than a feather kick....
Something I found out the hard way and was one of the reasons I had to do more weights training. Never let that leg collapse when you block a kick, if you do and are trying not to, you need stronger hips. Other than that I have always liked this typical Muay Thai drill.
Not letting the Knee give so much like he is doing. It's something I used to have a problem with before 1) my shins got used to contact and 2) started to lift weights. Both helped a-lot, but hey, he could just be doing some light back-and-forth stuff and I could be putting more into this than is needed.
You might get away with that in Karate which I took for 4 years getting up to a brown belt, but that is kicking with the knee...slap kicking. Muay Thai you do that and you'll get your arm broken.
the block while kicking thing is about personnal preference. Most decent fighters don't block while kicking, others even say to swing your arms round for balance. Less flexible people can also kick higher when leaving their arms loose.
Most MMA fighters swing their arms when they kick. Just check out most UFC or Thai fights. There's so many downfalls to keeping ur arms up it's really not worth doing. Of course It's okay to put the guard up if you miss the kick or when the kick is through but keeping it up the whole way through is awkward.
how about you post a video of a fight with you in it not blocking your face when someone goes to throw a kick. Then after your jaw is hanging, you can try to explain that again.
Don't need to. Look at any capable UFC fight on youtube and you'll see none of them actually keep their guard up while kicking. The risk outweighs the benefits anyway since thrusting your arms will create the power nescessary to actually hurt ur opponent, where as keeping ur hands up will make ur kick seem like more of a smack.
wouldnt it be better to throw a right hand to cover up the foot switch so it isnt telegraphed so much? not really a ko thing but just to keep them focused on the hands?
learning combos is good!!! but at the end of the day it's up to us whether we wanna use them or wanna make our own, combos are more or less ''stensils'', and we have to judge whether we're able of usin it at a certain time or against a certain opponent. some combos may work better then others depending on the stiuation or the oponent
maybe I'm drunk! But, I am the first to critsize fake muay thai technique. However, this is a perfect tool for real sport. It isn't perfect, but it's exactly what you should train to do. Counter a kick with a kick and two punches followed by a kick. Yeah the technique is bad, but it's the right thing to do.
He drops his arm on purpose. This generates a crap load of extra power. When his arm drops he protects himself with his shoulder. Not only that but he is stepping off the line so its unlikely that he will be in range for a punch anyway
if the attacker backs up to reset himself after his attack fails, he is in good position catch/parry the instep of your hook kick and side kick the crap out of you... then again, i don't think thai boxing uses the side kick much so i guess this works great against someone who wouldn't do that
when was the last time you fought a muay thai fighter? sidekicks don't work like that, 1)you can not parry/catch a full powered roundhouse (it's NOT a hook kick, it's a power angle kick, you will break your arm trying to catch/parry it, you can only block), 2) you can NOT throw a side kick when he's throwing a punch combination at that range,
I hold a blackbelt in TKD and practiced muay thai for 8 years,
well said. tkd kicks work once in a while, but only if you catch an opponent off guard. In a normal fight you are exactly right, it would be caught and the kicker would be knocked out.
I like the bas ruten method of going with the kick and getting it after the peak sop ther is very little power in it. easy to catch and counter. you will get hurt if you catch it while in the focus area of the kick but not if you move in the direction of the kick n grab it when the foot is past centre
great combination we call this number 4 at my gym.proberly one of the best 4 strike combos which can also be used as an attack without low kick block.all muay thai fighters should try this combo it always seems to land
Jam that kick and plant an elbow on their chin.
