The Gulf of Tonkin Incident is only one in a long list of Western false flag operations and war baiting operations. In 1988, when Iraq was losing its war with Iran, the USS Vincennes shot down Iran Air Flight 655, in an attempt to provoke the Iranians, thus giving the US an avenue into directly supporting Iraq. 655 was in Iranian air space, flying along a standard flight path. Vincennes, a Ticonderoga class Aegis cruiser with the most sophisticated radar in the world "thought" it was a fighter.
Not that war. The big pay for that conflict would come only with Iraqi victory. The whole point of the war was to regain control of the Iranian oil fields. 1953, the CIA overthrew a pro-west elected Iranian government because the Iranian president decided that Iranian oil should benefit Iran. Crazy idea huh? When the Shah was overthrown, multi-national banks and oil interests financed and equiped Saddam Hussein, in the hopes of regaining them.
Primary backers of Iraq included Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, and the United States, The US went so far as to equip the Iraqis with VX nerve gas, serrin gas, anthrax, and weaponized bubonic plague.Saddam's war with Iran failed. The result was that Iraq's economy was utterly destroyed, and the government gripped by grippling debt to guess who: Kuwait, and Saudi Arabia.
There was only one war between Saddam and the Iranian Theocracy. Look up Iran Contra and you'll see the truth. Israel was also funneling Iran weapons during this time.
Iraq (Saddam) demanded that Kuwait cease this theft of Iraqi oil, or at the very least pay for it by deducting its value from Iraqs debt. Kuwait refuses, and even goes so far as to make highly personal attacks against Saddam. Saddam gets pissed and decides to teach the Kuwaitis that dead men don't collect debts. Having lost control of the Iranian fields, big money and big business in the West decided to nip-it-in-the-bud. Ladies and Gentlemen, I give you: The Gulf War.
The Kuwaitis and Saudis wanted Iraq to pay up, and knowing perfectly well they couldn't tried to coerce Iraq into relinquishing controling interest in its oil fields (in effect demanding that Iraq sell its oil industry to foreigners). Saddam said: PISS OFF. Then the Kuwaitis, backed by the multi-national oil megacorps began "Slant-Drilling" from their territory into Iraq and stealing Iraqi oil (upwards of 300,000 barrels per day).
It was never their idea to begin with. Iraq was persuaded into war and given grandiose promises by the instigators of the wealth and preminence Iraq would gain. The banking powers, arms conglomerates, and big oil all jumped on board in goading Saddam into war. The CIA provided an immense amount of intelligence and logistical support, while big money released monstrous loans to finance the war. Before the war Iraq was the richest, most modern, and progressive nation in the Mid East.
The Iran-Iraq war began in 1980 with the Iraqi invasion. The war provacateurs and the Iraqis, however had serious underestimated Irans will and ability to resist the invasion and by Spring'81 the invasion stalled and Iran went on the offensive. This very nearly turned into a complete disaster for the Iraq and its backers since the seizing of the Iraq oil production areas and even of all of Iraq itself was a very real danger. Even the Soviets (LOL!) jumped on board behind Iraq at this point.
Having met with complete failure, the "powers that be" had no one left to go after but Iraq. The only way they could recoup their losses was to "liquidate" Iraqs material wealth. Iraq had the worlds. The Gulf War was from start to finish, an extremely avoidable conflict.Saddam (not that I'm trying to defend the bastard) was very open to and indeed active in his calls for a peaceful resolution that didn't involve a pennyless and destitute Iraq. Saddam was a bastard, but a loyal and patriotic one.
No, but the Saudi's and Kuwaitis didn't realize how desperate Saddam had become. When the coffers run out, dictators tend to get a little jumpy. Especially when their power base is a minority standing on top of a pissed off majority (Shi'ites) with strong ties to their most hated enemy (Iran). When you have large numbers of ex-soldiers walking the streets unemployed, empty pantries at home, and the fresh sting of defeat on your backside, revolution is only a matchstick away.
In reality, the Iraqi invasion of kuwait was more like an act of self-preservation on Saddam's part then it was an act of aggression. Militarily, there was no one in the region who could do anything about it, so Saddam assumed they wouldn't try (he did have the worlds 4th largest military afterall).
Its not like Kuwait could ever force the acquisition of Iraqi oil companies. And yes, it was an act of aggression. Saddam wanted to keep all of Kuwait, and he wasn't ever going to withdraw.
Of course the Kuwaitis could eventually force Iraqi compliance! The Kuwaitis and their Saudi allies, not to mention the vested oil industrial complex of the West, bring an incredible amount of leverage to bare against Iraq. I failed to mention that before the war, they were attempting to do just that. The Kuwaitis and Saudis had greatly boosted oil production which drove the price of oil down dramatically.
Iraqi economic recovery depended entirely on oil revenue. Iraqs oil infrastructure had suffered considerable damage during the war and Iraqi production couldn't meet the Iraqs financial solvency problems as it was. Intentionally driving down the price of oil on the international market was swiftly bringing Iraq to its knees.
As previously stated, Iraqs economy was based upon oil production. As such, it is not logical to assume that Saddam intended to remain in Kuwait indefinitely because this still left the issue of Iraqs outstanding international debts which were not owed to Kuwait and Saudi Arabia exclusively. Saddam still needed an accessable market for his oil. Occupying Kuwait was his only bargaining chip.
The fact is, that if Saddam had "imperial" ambitions, there were not enough boots on the ground to stop him. Whether or not he would have stayed in Kuwait is irrelevent. The real causes of the war remain, and are well document among numerous sources. I'm sure even wikipedia will be able to confirm what I have told you about events leading up to the war if you look.
Economic warfare may not be as bloody as the real thing, but for Saddam and his regime, it could have proven equally as fatal. If you consider this fact, the conclusion that Iraq was very clearly provoked, and that Saddam was acting in self-preservation becomes self-evident. You must understand that this is in no away an attempt to excuse the actions of Saddam Husein or to justify them. It simply is what is. The truth is seldom what you hear on TV.
I'm sure it is more believable. Truth is often stranger than fiction. That lesson becomes easier to accept when you realize that in our world, few things in the realm of politics and world event are ever what they seem. The only difference between the "Land of the Free" and a ruthless foreign dictatorship are the lines that scroll across a TV camera prompter.

For decades, Western governments like the US and UK have had scores of experts working out all conceivable conflicts in all conceivable circumstances and developing plans on how they would be fought. The Iraqi military, which was formerly the 4th largest in the world, had huge stockpiles of weapons and munitions. Can a rational person be led to believe that when coalition forces poured into Iraq NO ONE had considered the danger posed by this stockpile?

In 1988, when Iraq was losing its war with Iran, the USS Vincennes shot down Iran Air Flight 655, in an attempt to provoke the Iranians, thus giving the US an avenue into directly supporting Iraq. 655 was in Iranian air space, flying along a standard flight path. Vincennes, a Ticonderoga class Aegis cruiser with the most sophisticated radar in the world "thought" it was a fighter.

The whole point of the war was to regain control of the Iranian oil fields. 1953, the CIA overthrew a pro-west elected Iranian government because the Iranian president decided that Iranian oil should benefit Iran. Crazy idea huh? When the Shah was overthrown, multi-national banks and oil interests financed and equiped Saddam Hussein, in the hopes of regaining them.

The Kuwaitis and Saudis wanted Iraq to pay up, and knowing perfectly well they couldn't tried to coerce Iraq into relinquishing controling interest in its oil fields (in effect demanding that Iraq sell its oil industry to foreigners). Saddam said: PISS OFF. Then the Kuwaitis, backed by the multi-national oil megacorps began "Slant-Drilling" from their territory into Iraq and stealing Iraqi oil (upwards of 300,000 barrels per day).

It was never their idea to begin with. Iraq was persuaded into war and given grandiose promises by the instigators of the wealth and preminence Iraq would gain. The banking powers, arms conglomerates, and big oil all jumped on board in goading Saddam into war. The CIA provided an immense amount of intelligence and logistical support, while big money released monstrous loans to finance the war. Before the war Iraq was the richest, most modern, and progressive nation in the Mid East.

The Iran-Iraq war began in 1980 with the Iraqi invasion. The war provacateurs and the Iraqis, however had serious underestimated Irans will and ability to resist the invasion and by Spring'81 the invasion stalled and Iran went on the offensive. This very nearly turned into a complete disaster for the Iraq and its backers since the seizing of the Iraq oil production areas and even of all of Iraq itself was a very real danger. Even the Soviets (LOL!) jumped on board behind Iraq at this point.

Having met with complete failure, the "powers that be" had no one left to go after but Iraq. The only way they could recoup their losses was to "liquidate" Iraqs material wealth. Iraq had the worlds. The Gulf War was from start to finish, an extremely avoidable conflict.Saddam (not that I'm trying to defend the bastard) was very open to and indeed active in his calls for a peaceful resolution that didn't involve a pennyless and destitute Iraq. No, but the Saudi's and Kuwaitis didn't realize how desperate Saddam had become. When the coffers run out, dictators tend to get a little jumpy. Especially when their power base is a minority standing on top of a pissed off majority (Shi'ites) with strong ties to their most hated enemy (Iran). When you have large numbers of ex-soldiers walking the streets unemployed, empty pantries at home, and the fresh sting of defeat on your backside, revolution is only a matchstick away.

In reality, the Iraqi invasion of kuwait was more like an act of self-preservation on Saddam's part then it was an act of aggression. Militarily, there was no one in the region who could do anything about it, so Saddam assumed they wouldn't try (he did have the worlds 4th largest military afterall).

Of course the Kuwaitis could eventually force Iraqi compliance! The Kuwaitis and their Saudi allies, not to mention the vested oil industrial complex of the West, bring an incredible amount of leverage to bare against Iraq. I failed to mention that before the war, they were attempting to do just that. The Kuwaitis and Saudis had greatly boosted oil production which drove the price of oil down dramatically.

Iraqi economic recovery depended entirely on oil revenue. Iraqs oil infrastructure had suffered considerable damage during the war and Iraqi production couldn't meet the Iraqs financial solvency problems as it was. Intentionally driving down the price of oil on the international market was swiftly bringing Iraq to its knees.

As previously stated, Iraqs economy was based upon oil production. As such, it is not logical to assume that Saddam intended to remain in Kuwait indefinitely because this still left the issue of Iraqs outstanding international debts which were not owed to Kuwait and Saudi Arabia exclusively. Saddam still needed an accessable market for his oil. Occupying Kuwait was his only bargaining chip.

The fact is, that if Saddam had "imperial" ambitions, there were not enough boots on the ground to stop him. Whether or not he would have stayed in Kuwait is irrelevent. The real causes of the war remain, and are well document among numerous sources. I'm sure even wikipedia will be able to confirm what I have told you about events leading up to the war if you look.
