  • Losing love is like a window in your heart. Everybody sees you're blown apart. Everybody feels the wind blow. -- now that's some writing.

  • All the white people in this video are either now dead, homeless or have left Zimbabwe.

  • @tomelifeisjustonebig

its probably the same story with the blacks as well..............its quite sad , it was once great and there was potential for good but it was ruined by corrupt elements

Moves me in a way I can't explain.

  • Unbelievable good musicians, obviously played from the heart. Brings a tear to the eye...

  • he is the best garf, needed simon ha ha

  • I was at that concert in Harare Zimbabwe 20 odd years ago..... Was a fantastic hot day, beer was flowing and we were united........ Such good memories.......

  • @Zimboon1 Chills reading that. Very cool

  • @Zimboon1 Nice comment, wish I had been there too....sigh...

  • John Selolwane was absolutely fantastic on lead guitar!

  • Back when Zimbabwe was Zimbabwe..the Zim we will remember and the Zim it can still become!!!

  • Paul Simon considers this his finest work and Graceland his best song. There is a "classic video" of the making of this album. Great, very personal and honest. He wrote this at the low point in his career and life with failed recordings, and a failed marriage to Carrie Fisher.

  • love it

  • Wow, all 17 whites left in Zimbabwe are here in one audience. If you want a good cry, watch the movie 'Mugabe and The White Farmer' and read the excellent book 'The Fear: Robert Mugabe and the Martyrdom of Zimbabwe' by Zimbabwean Peter

    Godwin.

  • @Amhlair . might check it out. cheers

  • The back cover of the original VHS:

After successfully blending the most popular styles of African music on his Graceland album Paul Simon chose the best musicians he knew to join him in introducing that music to the world. He added the distinctive styles of Miriam Makeba, Hugh Masekela and Ladysmith Black Mambazo and took the troupe to Africa. The Graceland Tour, which has played to 1000's throughout the world gained a reputation as an epic event when it went to Africa....

  • Why are there English subtitles?

  • @spencinnati :

I've download this DvD and the subtitles are merged on the mpg file.

  • the lyrics are genius.

  • that's so you can sing the song!

  • Comment removed

  • Pour rester toujours en haut.

  • top------

  • Paul highlights how he doesn't say "Memphis Tennessee " in the later verses, because he's now talking about a more spiritual place. This song is a beautiful harmony of music, lyrics and imagery. And what a fantastic sense of rythym and uplifting energy from this live performance.

  • man this a township jam, feel like doing a small kwasa-kwasa, the guitar will lead me...

  • God if I could only play guitar like this!

  • @jx14aby Do you enjoy Paulryth von Simon?

  • @dowling1981 You're weird kind of troll... what's it this 'Paulryth von Simon' crap?

  • @quedasobravo You may be right, but this kin'o' mental cruelty wus bad eneuch commin fae ither weans whun ye gane tae school, but whun the teachers join't in this kin' o' ill fashion't cruelty it pits a mark on ye for the rest o' yer deys an it's ill tae hae onythin but a suspeeshun for ony sae criet larnit folk way there fancy Inglish tongues whut they be tae get aff a whin stane for they niver got them roon here. Anyway, when did you shoot this?

  • @dowling1981 Again, you're weird. From your reply, i gather you either think you're (somehow) being clever, or you're retarded. Either way, I wasted all the time I had to waste on you...

  • @quedasobravo So there is no medium between 'clever' and 'retarded'. How long have you ruled the cosmos?

  • @dowling1981 No, I said those where the two choices given the weirdness of your comments, not for every human interaction... As for the "cosmos" remark, I really don't think you can act offended after so blatantly trolling a comment section like you have. Once again, explain the meaning of "Paulryth von Simon" and I will concede I was maybe speaking out of turn. Otherwise, get something better to do with your life than being a fucking troll...

  • @quedasobravo Paulryth von Simon is his full name, ken?

  • @dowling1981 You're still there?

  • @quedasobravo Still here yes. Why do you seek to unledge me?

  • thanks for the tip

    friendly yours willy

  • One of the 5 greatest albums of all time. I saw this on VHS when I lived in Nigeria. This is all we played when we had visitors.

  • @monex5 thats true me too in those days

  • jesus c it does not get any better

  • Who are the 5 people who dislike this!?

  • One of the ALL TIME musical GEMS of our age.

    To CRY for.

  • this such a wonderfull album

  • This gig was brilliant...cool post,luvvin it!!

  • Hi there , is there somewherewe can get the dvd of this concert .? if you have any info thanks for sharing info .

    god bless you

    Willy

  • @4799711 To quote one of those current plastic pops, "cd/dvd weren't invented then"

  • @4799711 i bought a copy of this dvd last year. it is called Paul Simon Graceland The African concert . It is available at Amazon.

  • I really, really would have loverd to be there! Been to Zimbabwe, a fantastic land, lovely people, and Fantastic music on top of that. What is better?!

    All the good to you!

  • I never quite got Paul Simon's "Graceland" album. I give him credit for trying new music from another country. Or was he just ripping off African musicians? I like Ladysmith Black Mambazo. But whenever I see them I think it takes ten men to take the place on one Art Garfunkel. Art is God.

  • @Jefgg well you need to listen to it again, cus he is the man

  • @mark26099 I tried, but it just wasn't my bag. I didn't "get" it. But I could listen to it again. It's been a few years.

  • first andy says your a rinkle like the elephants then you turn to plastic then stone and then you die alone...must i tell them...i am the promised son of abraham.

  • tis good but pity he ripped off the african musicians

  • @seenmelately

But he didn't, he raised the profile of African music, at a point of history when South Africa was isolated, no music got out, no cultural links.

This man is anti-racist, at a time South Africa was completely racist, he recieved a lot of criticism and some threats, a difficult time for him.

So, view his actions with nothing but respect.

  • He is a genius...this is awesome!

  • never tire of this one--love it!

  • Great Video,great performance.

  • I listened to this with my dad. RiP! I miss you

  • @rhcpmls Sounds like your dad was a childmolester...

  • my late mum used to play this album on long car journeys when we were children. I like to think, now she's gone, that she rocked to these songs as I do now :)

  • @MegaBugsy101 My father made sure this was our travel album too ha ha

eventually i will pass this tradition down to my kids
