  • i like them

  • ...and yet another Butt Ugly European locomotive!

  • DON'T EVER LET THE AMERICANS BUILD YOU A LOCOMOTIVE AGAIN!!!! UNDERSTAND??... GOOD!

  • How very disappointing! It looks like a giant bread van.

Disappointing also for a nation that gave the world Stephenson, Gresley, Stanier and Ivatt, that such an ugly locomotive should be imported in the first place.

  • @flippop101

Indeed. When is Brush going to get off their arse and start building locomotives again?

  • moore imported crap they look like who ever designed them waz on drugs or something

  • these things look hideous! How many have been ordered/already working?

hope they dont sweep the UK like the 66's have.

  • @justandy333 6 are in the country, 6 due in september. the rest are unsure

  • @HSTHoward Thanks

  • ugly things

  • A grotesque piece of foreign shit...would be at home in CIE colours thou....

  • Ugly= yes.

    Big improvement over 66's=yes.

They dont have a stove for "brewing up" though.= bad.

Nice console layout, everthing is lcd screens, no dials. Even outside fuel guage is digital(wonder how long that'll work for)? ;)

  • u g l y

  • The 70 is better than a 59, 66 or 67 but not as good as either a 56, 58 or a 60.

So it's probably about average for a freight diesel.

  • Is that from a bussiness point of view or the foamers point of view lol. Just an example, a driver, good mate and collegue of mine took a 59 and 4300 tonnes over Savernake a few years ago, i asked him if that was possible with a 60, his reply was no fuckin chance! Good ere init ;) In haulage terms, it goes like this- 70,59,60,66,58,56,67. Dont right stuff off just because its american I do alot of railfaning over the pond and they use some prety mean machinery compared with the crap we got ere

  • You don't know what point of view I'm giving as I like to remain anonymous.

A Class 60 has hauled 4000+ tonne trains in the past so don't know what your talking about. This arguement can go on forever. How do you know if a 70 can even haul more than a 60/59 when it has not been tested that much. Think you'll find the 67 is not even a heavy hauler so why even mention that. So far I have never heard of a 66 hauling a freight that is heavier than what I've known a 56 to haul.

  • I know well a 60 has hauled 4+k, I repeated what a driver said who worked out of Merehead for years, he was also involved with the class 59 trials back in 87. A 59 has supperior TE than a 60 im afraid. Its based on the US SD40-2, probably about the most sucessfull loco ever built anywhere, nearly 6000 built between 66 and 78 an other dirivatives exported to all corners of the globe, but they must be crap eh, cause their not built by brush. you mentioned the 67 before I did!

  • Wow, realy clever. Any chance you can predict next weeks lottery numbers per chance?? The bloody things hav'nt done a weeks work yet. 56' is old technology, it has a reworked 50's engine FFS. How can you even begin to compare, its like comparing a ford seiera with a range rover sport lol. We cant build good loco's anymore, we cant compete, get over it FFS. Thats why FLHH have gone to the U.S!

  • Nice one Howard, having seen one today I can say they're not too bad a design after all !

  • They look awful!!! And its just a little dumb putting the lights in the anti-clime pannels

  • It's not the appearence that counts, it's how this locomotive preforms

  • Not the prettiest diesel but any new diesel loco is a good thing!!

  • are they make from Duplo Lego?

  • Have any been preserved ?

  • They aren't even in the UK yet these are brand new, I assume you were taking the piss but if not these are new builds from GM in Canada the first ones will be in Britain in about two weeks I think.

  • Well done Mr Knowledge... their actually built in the US by GE.

  • Thanks for recognizing my status, and yes a small mistake they are made in the US not Canada.

  • the design isn't very revolutionary indeed

  • who ever designed that heap of crap wants to be strung up by there scrotum .

  • They said that about the 56!

  • we want loadhaul we want it now....froth wibble wibble

  • WTF is this a joke?

  • OK - I've now had the official reasoning behind the hideous front end - it's all about EU crush-zones for the driver - fair enough.

But seriously - these have clearly just been literally bolted onto an existing design, or are you seriously suggesting these features couldn't have been incorporated into a more aesthetic nose?

And does this mean that all EU locos will have to look like this from now on??

Would you buy a car that looked like it had a front end made of Lego?!

  • What The Fuck Do They Look Like

  • No it doesn't, it's a disgusting change!

  • I think the designers had to incorporate certain crashworthiness standards.

  • What do you mean?

  • This is from Freightliner:

The front of the cabs are a result of future proofing the design to the pending locomotive TSI.

The TSI calls up two euro norms that require a 3m cube survival space in the cab for the driver as well as the requirement to fit anti-climbers.

As a result we have three stage crash provisions:

    Stage 1 - Collapsible buffers

Stage 2 - Anti climbers engage to prevent climbing and also second stage crush zone

Stage 3 - Crush box hidden behind the buffers.

  • My god - the designer of the front end's having a laugh. They look like the backs of a fridges. Horrific.

  • Whatever. It'll still make a nice change from 66's.

  • Amen to that, and they sound better!.

  • na genesis sounds much better

  • Did Reliant have a say in the bodywork design.. they look like they were designed by the people who designed the famous 3-wheeled robin! Sorry but they are juist plain dreadful and i hope the boat sinks before they get to our shores

  • whoever designed these was a bit blind lol but i seen worse as well

  • Are the Americans starting to take the piss!!!. Looks like a DLV van with buffers.

  • yeah!

  • Sorry for my honesty: but they look like dodgy family cars with a lot of wheels to me

  • lol!

  • My word. Nice to see a change from a 66, doesn't it.

  • it does indeed.

  • Hmmm... Im not overly fond of these engines... my brain says 'these are like the people who try to be cool, but aren't...' if you get what I mean? Good idea though. They could have been a lot worse...

  • That paint scheme looks pretty sharp there man! The pictures made me think that the units were already in the UK. But they're actually in GE's backyard! I think I'll call them 'green snails', because of their colors, and design.

  • no call em genesis. they look nice in fl livery. im calling them genesis.

  • they have been renamed powerhaul

  • look much better than before!

  • i thought this was the earth . it dosnt apear so with things like that .on our tracks .

  • looks a bit like a bone!!!! (58)

  • WOW what the hell do we call these .. ugs is a good name lol 5* vid

  • predetors

  • Reliant Robins is my shout !

  • lol

  • Yuck :\ - letes just buy more sheds! altho it would be nice to have a change :P

  • hmm are the based on the class 67

  • nope

  • hmm they look OK but they do look to american

  • they doo

  • lets see if they actually last a week before failing! if it passes that then theyre all good!

  • Pretty

  • Looks awful!

  • you knwo they dont look as bad once there liveried and the new livery looks awesome anyways

  • looks like surgery went wrong very ugly

  • it looks like madonnas arms

  • My goodness what a truly awful looking bit of kit. I have to say I am rather fond of 66s and 67s now ... but this?

Theres some fantastic designs (37s being the best example) - why couldn't we have something a bit nicer to look at that doesn't look like the evil mutated lovechild of a 58 and a 67?

As long as they do the job they're designed for thats the main thing!!!

  • lol.

  • nope not for me they look like something off a G scale layout and the colours make them look from another country lol =[

  • *look

  • they are being deliverd at Newport! YAY the loom alright!

  • lol

  • Liverys good but not so sure on the loco, I need a bucket

  • hmm

  • Wow, bout time there was a new loco.

  • wow i refuse to video tht it might break the camera loolage

  • Nice one Howard. Thoughts on them now I see there in the FL livery. Well looks better & toned it down a bit, but the front end!! May be it'll grow on me, but i 'll wait till i see it in the flesh 1st. Glad you posted this one. 5* cheers.

  • thanks! yes it will take a while to get used to. 00 guage?

  • OO gauge, lets ask Hornby. They may do it if enough of us ask.(I hope) Cheers.

  • i think these will be replacements for the 57s, which will probably go to drs

  • its like a cross between a 67 and some American loco....with ackney lol

    nice one.

  • rumours the fleet will start of based at Leeds (just round the corner from me) before moving south, nothing is certain yet. still there the most ugly locos i've ever seen

  • nice! yes the are ugly but i will like them. were is the 00 guage model?

  • WOW!

  • there being used on intermodal i herd tht eastleigh where on about having some of them dunno weather tht is true but who knows lots of 66s gunna get stored then

  • who knows. 66s will go to poland me thinks

  • no 66s to be stored at all. just need new locos and not going for sheds :S

  • I think they look awesome! What do you think Howard?

  • cant you tell?

  • *sarcasum* your video description doesn't quite give it away :P

  • there ugly! where will they be used then hopefully not the SW

  • who knows. their job will be intermodal

  • wow! what a change, I suppose the shabby grey made it look worse

  • Copyrighted to either

    1. Me for posting it on Yahoo

    2. Marcus for also posting it on Yahoo

    3. Where the original phot came from on Flikr

Other than that, I honestly cant wait until these come over

  • nope i got a link to twitter, then i googled it and rail express had it.

  • even if they morphed amywinehouse with a pig, it would still be uglier

  • lol

  • FUCK I can think of nothing else more Ugly! Needs to look more British

  • yes you! lol

  • there fuck ugly i hate frieghtliner

  • they are a fantastic! at least its a new livery, new models, new traction for over 10 years to UK

  • on closer inspection there not to bad

  • no thats wat i thought

  • now there ugly maybe if they painted a smiley face on the front they might look better

  • im with you!

  • Saw this pic before you ! :P

  • i saw it at 3.08
