Most atheists are quite used to such ignorant comments . I sure am. A member of my own family had this to say about ME (an atheist) to my elderly mom : " She don't believe in God! Why, lord have mercy, she's dangerous!". Incredulous that people still think like this M. Davis in 2008 ! She is the one who is dangerous to children.
And I don't have to prove to you God does exist. Instead, why don't you prove God doesn't. And seriously, if the best you can do is say "evolution dissproves God" than seriously, you've got a lot logical thinking to do. Evolution does not disprove the existance of God, in the same way a construction crew does not disprove the existance of an architect.
You do have to prove god exists. Any given something does not exist until proven otherwise. If it were the other way around, the concept of truth would cease to exist.
But you are the one trying to convince me God doesn't exist. I am not trying to convince you to believe God exists. Therefore the burden of proof is you.
By default? The idea of atheism may have existed back in ancient Greek philosophy, but for centuries throughout the world, deity-based religion out ages, and out numbers you. It is nothing short of pure arrogance for you to think that your minority opinion that God does not exist is default, and followers of religion must proove God does when you are the minority.
*sigh* you're missing the point. This has nothing to do with who has more followers or whose ideologies have been around longer. (Not to mention everyone is born atheist).
The point is exactly the one I made in my original post. Please reread it, it's about as clear and concise as I can possibly make it.
Forget gods.. let's take your position. There is an invisible unicorn poking you in the eye once every second. You'd say this is true by default? Some1 else says there isnt one. Hes alsoright?
In that case. You take the person to an eye dr. The patient is observed, and the dr. documents that something unseen is poking the eye, than the claim of something invisible is true. You're use of a Unicorn is obviously to equate my believe in God to a fairy tale, or so I'm to assume.
In that same way, I know personally many people who've been experienced "miraculous" medical cures that science cannot explain. I'm not saying this is proof, but I suppose it is within your example.
You'd be correct. Except now let's stipulate that this unicorn isn't poking anyone. It's simply standing on your shoulder. Is it still true that this unicorn exists?
This is a miniature one, but I appreciate the humor lol. So I'd argue no, it doesn't exist cuz there's no measurable effect on reality. You may argue god's effects are measurable, and in such a case then yes burden of proof is now on science to disprove. Which I'd argue science has done successfully (discredit or explain away your evidence for god), thus shifting the burden back to you. So we are back to "god doesn't exist" til you come up with new evidence that we cant explain away.gotta runbbl
Than the mini unicorn would fall under a category of something without proof, or disproof.
A common misconception about God is that, if there is a natural explanation for something (wind, oceans, humanity) other than supernatural (God, Zeus, Posidon, etc...) than it's automatically assumed a deity cannot exist. A Christian explanation is that God created the laws of nature to begin with, and is quite capable of working within those scientific laws.
The point is the universe would look and behave exactly as it does if that weren't true. So why believe it at all if it makes no difference? We shouldn't. That wouldn't be a problem, but you go beyond that and claim to know what God wants, likes, and desires (which you can't prove) and then impose that morality here, in the real world, where it DOES affect yourself and others in a very real way.
If you left it at "God created the laws of the Universe"and saidNOTHING else about God,thatd be fine
Further, the claims many Christians make are in fact not consistent with the scientific laws we know. Miracles? Bunk.
The Bible also contradicts itself, and "God's morality" very often conflicts with human morality. That is a very real problem and one I feel very strongly about. My fellow human beings' wellness holds more importance than some imaginary being's childish desires.

Because when you feel God's Spirit move, you know He's there, and there's nothing in this world that can convince you otherwise. And yes, I do claim to "know" God, because that is what pentecostal christianity emphasis on (which is the denomination I am a part of). God still has a lot of mysteries about Him, but He is not some passive deity where I have to pray 7 times a day to keep my family's honor, or must be represented by a priest to approach Him.
All such claims of yours have already been explained away with 100% natural explanations.
We can induce those very feelings and experiences you have with electrical impulses. It's already been done. You'd be surprised what the mind is capable of believing as real. How can you possibly know god? I argue strongly that you can't. God is unknowable by definition (regardless of whether or not he IS real.. it simply doesn't matter whether he is or not, irrelevant, reality would be same as it is now).
So. Our minds interact with God, and thus our body shows it through our chemical and electrical reactions. Again, you're assuming that everything about God must be unexplainable and supernatural. My relationship with God makes me a happy, positive, and joyful person and I would expect my body to show those reactions, and have them explained, and duplicated with scientific methods.
That's fine, you're proving my point. I repeat for the third time, the Universe would look and behave exactly as it does whether your God is real or not. That's fine, but it's not fine when you go beyond that and claim to know what this god wants, etc etc etc.. claiming to know such things is NOT fine unless you can prove them. You can't.

wow, it's not radical, or looney at all to say Christianity is "dangerous" but all of a sudden saying "atheism" is dangerous qualifies someone to be the worst person in the world?
Seriously, athiesm was at the root of the holocaust, and communist russia.
And Barack's autobiography did expose him to be a racist gnit.
It's 'Atheism' Perhaps if you had the brains to spell correctly you would quickly realize that 'not believing in god' does not lead to the holocaust, Hitler was your bedfellow btw, he was no atheist, do your fucking research, and are you telling me that the only reason you dont steal, rape, kill and burn ppl alive is that you are afraid that God will punish you? That is fucking pathetic. Take God out of the equation for a second, you wouldnt do those things without God now would you. GG
Um, yeah, you're right, it is "atheism" exactly how I spelled it. Second time around I admit, so thank you for pointing that out, you have such mastery over the skill of debate by pointing out typos.
And if you did you're research, you would discover that Hitler based his belief in the superiority of the Arian race because of darwinism, not Christianity. Hitler gave speeches with biblical imagery, but that's as close to Christianity as it gets.
I can't believe I'm actually responding to this. But since you insist, I spelled it "Atheism" once, than "athiesm" after that. I least I can admit my technical mistakes. Since that seems to be the most important issue to you, I have no choice to but conclude I've won the debate! hah!
You won the debate? LOL how typical, but where was your argument? Arguing with religious people is like playing chess with a pigeon, it knocks all the pieces over, shits on the board and flies back to its flock to claim victory.
Are you capable of taking things in context? So far all you've done is called me a dumbass, and complained about a typo. You've left me with no other choice of conclusion.
Dude rebelnote, you take ONE psychopath example that applied Darwinism eugenics and that makes your god anymore true? You believe in something that has no evidence lets establish that. People do bad things yes that doesnt make evolution ANYless true, you can establish a good educational system where things like that don't happen, we live in a different world, far less violent compared to even 50 years ago let alone medieval times, nobody complained about religions genocide much then.
I never said evolution wasn't. What I said was that evolution has been used to justify genocide. That doesn't make it scientifically less true, I just hope that it makes atheists calm down a little and set back and realize "hey, my philosophies have been used to justify evil in the world along with religion. " Instead most atheists argue with this holy purification idea that because Atheism is rooted in science no bad can come from it.
Most atheists have a life to get on with (they know this is the only life they have) to keep wasting their time to 'argue' there is no argument. Before science, everything unexplained was divine, with every new scientific discovery, divine gets debunked by 'actual reality'. Also religious ppl are hypocrites, you keep dissing atheism, it was atheists and scientific method that built your computer, internet, everything else you use. Church has never put a man on the moon, it hasnt done anything.
Historically, it was Christianity that put education as a focal point in western society. The catholic church was a huge contributor to funding the sciences including mathematics, art, astronomy, and music. If you even research into Galileo's life, it's been completely twisted to make it appear like the church was persecuting him to no end to suggest that the Earth was not the center of the universe. The church actually had no quarrel with the theory, it was modern science that rejected him.
The church established the University, and centers of higher education. The church took a stand against Islam, and prevented Muslim crusaders from invading Europe. The church of England was the first organization in Europe that took a stand against slavery and were responsable for banning it in England. The Church took a stand against nazism in germany (and beyond), and took the lead in hiding, and evacuating thousands of Jews out of the country.
Tolerance? Give me a break, i have every right to assert logical truths without you saying one damned word about tolerance. Where was the PC brigade when the church was murdering scientists left and right? No, i will not tolerate ignorance of reality, sorry.
rebelnote you are a indoctrinated MORON if you think it takes religion to control ppl from doing such HORRIBLE things, I dont know a single atheist who expressed the desire for a holocaust. People are good because people are good, people are bad because people are bad, it has nothing to do with your sky fairy control freak. Atheists dont burn witches, kill abortion doctors, detonate themselves and others and fly planes into buildings, religious people do. You are a cretin.
rebelnote you are a indoctrinated MORON if you think it takes religion to control ppl from doing such HORRIBLE things, I dont know a single atheist who expressed the desire for a holocaust. It's a good thing we're not talking about atheists, but atheism. You're the one who is generalizing with your "atheists don't do this blah blah blah" I never said atheists did anything, I said "atheism' which is a world view. I can separate a philosophy's doctrines from it's followers. You can't.
And if you did your research, specific atheists in the name of evolution, and went beyond burning witches, but committed genocide.
Those that committed genocide, did those things not 'in the name of atheism' that makes absolutely NO sense, they did it for various other reasons, political, economic, nobody commits genocide in the name of atheism. Atheism is a peaceful world view that applies 'no evidence, no god' logic. THE smartest most vital people in the world are atheists because you cant believe in a fairy god and call yourself logical. Only indoctrinated working class does. Its good for the economy afterall.
lol @ rebelnote, you need a fucking brain dude. This reminds when Richard Dawkins was on Alan Colmes radioshow (utube search it) and they pinned a Christian fundy psychopath to actually say that he would kill his neighbour if there was no fear of hell. He said it with a great deal of stuttering stubborness in his voice of course, he knew hes been HAD.
So by your logic, Christianity is bad because fear of hell is preventing the psychopath from committing murder? At least he's listening to some kind of higher moral standard that's preventing chaos. More than I can say on some of these replies.
Humans dont need to listen and talk to a higher power to be good, you know who those are? Psychologists call them schizophrenics.
If that helps you fine, but dont think thats the ONLY way to be good. We have built in ability to be good, before religions were invented ppl were naturally good and naturally bad. Like today. Its called altruism. All animals are atheists, they are doing just fine.
They don't need to, but it sure does help. If you knew the laws of Christian doctrine, one of the most important is that there are no good people. Because God looks at wrong doings equally. A little white is no different than committing mass murder (what is different are the consequences). This extreme equality is where "No man come through the Father but through Jesus" doctrine. No human can claim himself "good" without becoming a new person in Christ.
You are cherry picking, what about the horrible things the bible also teaches you? Lets not forget the old testament. And you dont think its arrogant to think you have the right God picked out of hundreds of others? "No man come through the father but through jesus" aka we are right everybody else is wrong. How about Islam? Religion of peace MY ass. I'm still waiting to hear your take on 'evidence for existence of god' you conveniently keep ducking that, you know why? Because God isn't real.
Um, yeah, the Old Testament. What horrible things does the Old Testament teach me to do? It's a little hard to pin point that as the Old Testament is, and continues to be the historical documentation of the Israelites, and Levitican Law, which Christ fulfilled in the New Testament. The Old Testament documents both God's wrath, and mercy. It also establishes that in the end, humanity was unable to live up to God's expectations and needed Christ to wash our wrong doing away.
Yes, this I do take a stand on. The basic most fundamental law of Christianity is right, and every other view point that rejects this fundamental point is wrong. If you study world religion, that is also a common trait among monothestic religions verses polytheistic.
Does it come across as arogant? Yes, I admit, but that is not the attempt. The reason why Christians believe this is because, well, obviously we believe that our doctrines come from God, and are the only truth in the world.
Christianity was the result of blatant plagiarism, Egyptians had it first. Virgin marry was mistranslated it was 'woman' not 'virgin'. Bible is full of typos. First you had polytheistic religions then monotheistic, next logical step is complete Atheism. You will remember this when you are older. Rebelnote you are still young and you are defending something your parents told you to believe since you were a kid. Regardless of everything else you have said, it doesn't make God true.
Egyptians had what first? Polytheism? How is that plagiarism? Judaism was the first (or at least the oldest current) monotheist religion. Christianity is the second branch off Judaism, than Islam views itself as the final perfected version of Christianity.
Historically atheism is not much younger than religion. There were several ancient Greek philosophers that theorized atheism thousands of years ago.
I am young, and so are you, but apparently age hasn't helped your stereotyping.
I get a kick out of the negative comments from these right wing nuts here. Actually I pity them because they lack the mental capacity to ever really "get" Keith Olbermann's humor. These poor lame brained Bushites only see things black and white. God forbid if they ever actually dared to question authority. But maybe that's why God made Faux News?

The liberal game plan:Get blacks against whites, women against men, old people against young people, workers against their boss, the poor against the rich, gays against straights, man against the air he breathes and the water he drinks (this global warming nonsense), and on and on it goes. It's all about "divide and conquer", which is right out of Karl Marxs' book, he being the father of Communism and Socialism, which is where we're headed if Hillary or Barak get in.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
The single reason why Olbermann never took a position on the deceased 'AirAmerica' aka 'Err-Amaerica' is that Keith likes to be paid with the fruits of Capitalism, aka money, instead of foodstamps and IOU's... Ironic!
Olber-Donkey, you're as much of a 'journalist' (instead of a 'liberal editorialist') as Hillary is a 'truth-teller' ('Watch out Sir Edmund Hillary, there's snipers by your NZ beehives!') and Obama is a 'race-uniter' (Pastor Wright: 'White people and Jews cause all problems!').

Hey Keith, why did you end up on MSNBC anyway? Didn't you work on some other cable network (ESPN perhaps), once-upon-a-time, where the viewership was more than 1200 people with TV's in Greenwich Village and on Haight-Ashbury? It's always good to see Liberals communally pool their welfare checks together for a unified goal (buying a TV and paying the cable when it's about to be turned off)!
Just brings tears to the eyes. (Sniffle. Sniffle). Beautiful! Just beautiful! Socialism works. Hahaha!
Another fantastic segment of Worsts! For those who criticize Keith for the number of conservatives that appear in Worst Persons, here's one where a Democrat beat out two conservative nutjobs. That's tough to do!
And for O'Really to suggest that racism would go away if we stop calling people "racist"... brilliant! It's like saying that homicide will go away if we stop convicting people of murder: "There were zero murder convictions this year, down from 8,000 last year. Problem solved!"
This is why I'm an atheist. It's people like Monique Brown, Pat Robertson, Al Shaprton, Jesse Jackson, James Dobson and Bill Donohue who use religion as an excuse to spread hate and fear to the masses, thus inciting racism, sexism and homophobia. Until these jokers are removed from the planet and all religion is reformed, I won't care for religion. Frank Zappa said it best: "Dumb All Over".
P.S. Fuck Mann Coulter, it just needs to take its hormone shots. Bill-O is still a racist pussy.
I never understood and liked religion, and those I people I've mentioned and much more just sicken me the way they use religion. Aversion 2k, you're great for being an atheist and I respect you. Peace.
"The Colombia free trade deal, in my view, is not appropriate because of the history of suppression and targeted killings of labor organizers in Colombia.
It gets worse! When they were cleaning the building afterwards (to remove the atheist cooties), they found he left a note! It said, "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof;".
Monique the freak Davis needs to take a course in American history, 'twould seem XD National news, baby; take some prepH for the oral diarrhea ya got leakin' there, Rep. Davis.

GG
AncientReptile 3 years ago 4
Um, yeah, you're right, it is "atheism" exactly how I spelled it. Second time around I admit, so thank you for pointing that out, you have such mastery over the skill of debate by pointing out typos.
And if you did you're research, you would discover that Hitler based his belief in the superiority of the Arian race because of darwinism, not Christianity. Hitler gave speeches with biblical imagery, but that's as close to Christianity as it gets.
rebelnote 3 years ago
You spelled it 'Athiesm' dumbass.
ManakinBird 3 years ago
I can't believe I'm actually responding to this. But since you insist, I spelled it "Atheism" once, than "athiesm" after that. I least I can admit my technical mistakes. Since that seems to be the most important issue to you, I have no choice to but conclude I've won the debate! hah!
rebelnote 3 years ago
You won the debate? LOL how typical, but where was your argument? Arguing with religious people is like playing chess with a pigeon, it knocks all the pieces over, shits on the board and flies back to its flock to claim victory.
ManakinBird 3 years ago
Are you capable of taking things in context? So far all you've done is called me a dumbass, and complained about a typo. You've left me with no other choice of conclusion.
rebelnote 3 years ago
are you kidding me? thats not ALL I did, read the giant paragraphs of fonts I threw at you, or did you choose to ignore what hurts the most.
ManakinBird 3 years ago 2
Dude rebelnote, you take ONE psychopath example that applied Darwinism eugenics and that makes your god anymore true? You believe in something that has no evidence lets establish that. People do bad things yes that doesnt make evolution ANYless true, you can establish a good educational system where things like that don't happen, we live in a different world, far less violent compared to even 50 years ago let alone medieval times, nobody complained about religions genocide much then.
AncientReptile 3 years ago
I never said evolution wasn't. What I said was that evolution has been used to justify genocide. That doesn't make it scientifically less true, I just hope that it makes atheists calm down a little and set back and realize "hey, my philosophies have been used to justify evil in the world along with religion. " Instead most atheists argue with this holy purification idea that because Atheism is rooted in science no bad can come from it.
rebelnote 3 years ago
Most atheists have a life to get on with (they know this is the only life they have) to keep wasting their time to 'argue' there is no argument. Before science, everything unexplained was divine, with every new scientific discovery, divine gets debunked by 'actual reality'. Also religious ppl are hypocrites, you keep dissing atheism, it was atheists and scientific method that built your computer, internet, everything else you use. Church has never put a man on the moon, it hasnt done anything.
ManakinBird 3 years ago
Historically, it was Christianity that put education as a focal point in western society. The catholic church was a huge contributor to funding the sciences including mathematics, art, astronomy, and music. If you even research into Galileo's life, it's been completely twisted to make it appear like the church was persecuting him to no end to suggest that the Earth was not the center of the universe. The church actually had no quarrel with the theory, it was modern science that rejected him.
rebelnote 3 years ago
The church established the University, and centers of higher education. The church took a stand against Islam, and prevented Muslim crusaders from invading Europe. The church of England was the first organization in Europe that took a stand against slavery and were responsable for banning it in England. The Church took a stand against nazism in germany (and beyond), and took the lead in hiding, and evacuating thousands of Jews out of the country.
rebelnote 3 years ago

It's a good thing we're not talking about atheists, but atheism. You're the one who is generalizing with your "atheists don't do this blah blah blah" I never said atheists did anything, I said "atheism' which is a world view. I can separate a philosophy's doctrines from it's followers. You can't.
And if you did your research, specific atheists in the name of evolution, and went beyond burning witches, but committed genocide.
rebelnote 3 years ago
Those that committed genocide, did those things not 'in the name of atheism' that makes absolutely NO sense, they did it for various other reasons, political, economic, nobody commits genocide in the name of atheism. Atheism is a peaceful world view that applies 'no evidence, no god' logic. THE smartest most vital people in the world are atheists because you cant believe in a fairy god and call yourself logical. Only indoctrinated working class does. Its good for the economy afterall.
ManakinBird 3 years ago
lol @ rebelnote, you need a fucking brain dude.
SuperArcticFox 3 years ago
So by your logic, Christianity is bad because fear of hell is preventing the psychopath from committing murder? At least he's listening to some kind of higher moral standard that's preventing chaos. More than I can say on some of these replies.
rebelnote 3 years ago
Humans dont need to listen and talk to a higher power to be good, you know who those are? Psychologists call them schizophrenics.
If that helps you fine, but dont think thats the ONLY way to be good. We have built in ability to be good, before religions were invented ppl were naturally good and naturally bad. Like today. Its called altruism. All animals are atheists, they are doing just fine.
ManakinBird 3 years ago
They don't need to, but it sure does help. If you knew the laws of Christian doctrine, one of the most important is that there are no good people. Because God looks at wrong doings equally. A little white is no different than committing mass murder (what is different are the consequences). This extreme equality is where "No man come through the Father but through Jesus" doctrine. No human can claim himself "good" without becoming a new person in Christ.
rebelnote 3 years ago
You are cherry picking, what about the horrible things the bible also teaches you? Lets not forget the old testament. And you dont think its arrogant to think you have the right God picked out of hundreds of others? "No man come through the father but through jesus" aka we are right everybody else is wrong. How about Islam? Religion of peace MY ass. I'm still waiting to hear your take on 'evidence for existence of god' you conveniently keep ducking that, you know why? Because God isn't real.
ManakinBird 3 years ago
Um, yeah, the Old Testament. What horrible things does the Old Testament teach me to do? It's a little hard to pin point that as the Old Testament is, and continues to be the historical documentation of the Israelites, and Levitican Law, which Christ fulfilled in the New Testament. The Old Testament documents both God's wrath, and mercy. It also establishes that in the end, humanity was unable to live up to God's expectations and needed Christ to wash our wrong doing away.
rebelnote 3 years ago
Yes, this I do take a stand on. The basic most fundamental law of Christianity is right, and every other view point that rejects this fundamental point is wrong. If you study world religion, that is also a common trait among monothestic religions verses polytheistic.
Does it come across as arogant? Yes, I admit, but that is not the attempt. The reason why Christians believe this is because, well, obviously we believe that our doctrines come from God, and are the only truth in the world.
rebelnote 3 years ago
And by truth I am talking about religious doctrines.
rebelnote 3 years ago
Christianity was the result of blatant plagiarism, Egyptians had it first. Virgin marry was mistranslated it was 'woman' not 'virgin'. Bible is full of typos. First you had polytheistic religions then monotheistic, next logical step is complete Atheism. You will remember this when you are older. Rebelnote you are still young and you are defending something your parents told you to believe since you were a kid. Regardless of everything else you have said, it doesn't make God true.
DivingAlbatross 3 years ago

Hahaha!
johnnyu2123 3 years ago
