i dont understand, did you already have the music on the hdd? the the arm just read it and produced it to a coil that made sound waves? then you amplified it with a tin can, is that correct?
No the hard drives were completly destroyed and had no info on their platters. I just used the coil on the read/write arm to act like a speaker. I had two wires connected and ran them to the output on my stereo. And yes, I used a can to amplify one of thne hard drives (It was the bass hd)
Well, The way I did it was i found the little metal pins that connect to to the actual circuit bord on the hard drive. There are like 10 pins on it and i needed to find the 2 pins that connected to the electro magnet (wound coils on read/write arm). Once I did that they acted just like normal voice coils on a speaker.
All hard drives (atleast the newer ones) Have An electro magnet that moves the read/write arm across the platters. It is made out of copper wire coiled up and wound very tightly around the plastic piece connected to the arm under the magnets. The Coils Function the same as a voice coil as a normal speaker creating sound.
Yes, All of them are playing (Even though you cant see it) They are ALL still vibrating creating sound. I use the tape on the small ones because they rattle a lot with out it. The tape makes them sound better.
i think im gunna use this as a physics project, thanx, or just for fun, this is a rele cool thing, i might just use 1 lapt top hardrive, will it owrk? or do i have 2 get a regular sized 1
okay, i understand i was a little bit confused because ive never tooken apart a hard drive before, but i get the concept

I saw the reflection of a speaker on the big hard drive. Are you sure you're actually doing something.

The funny part is that I am listening to your hard drive speakers on my hard drive speaker!

Where may we donate to you, for the use of speakers?

what do you mean?

Ha thats cool why didn't i think of using a spring....cool so did you solder it together or how did you connect the wires?
sergioalcala 4 years ago
Yeah that's about all I did. I soldered the wires together.

Whats the purpose of the spring

It gives the hard drive a more deep vibrating sound.

I wanna try this.. what kinda Amp or w/e would I need to use?

This comment has received too many negative votes show
wtf is this shitty crap? the sound is coming from the speaker on top, you can see the reflection. This is so dumb.
