  • pridgen, looks like 90% snare drummer. a little less creative than tony, imo.

  • Hahaha was that Eric Moore just chilling on the other kit? at 3:21

  • Battle?? I doubt this is a battle as much as it is a shed session

  • what the keys song called or is it just improv??

Can you download it somewhere ?

  • Tony hands down.

  • You know too. That the intensity of the set makes a difference sometimes it could have been where the camera was recording but Tonys did sound more powerful making Thomas set or chops sound kind of low or soft but he was hittin though!!! It's another clip where he gets on The silver set and you can feel him for real. I can't say either one is better but I can say that both made mistakes, bit I think that Tony hides his better than a lot of people.

  • tony ayak üstü sikti amk :D

  • Pridgen's style is amazing here

  • Gotta admit, theres something about Thomas' technique and chops that separates him from Tony.. but they're both mad insane behind a kit.

  • pridgen ftw!

  • They are both fucking disgusting at drumming and its funny cause i just met Thomas the other day and he said that him and Tony grew up together and played together their whole lives so technically they are jammin here cause they would never battle eachother.

  • 2 BRILLIANT drummers but i think tony just about had the edge over pridgen but a tiny bit.11/10

  • were they fighting in the start

  • Oh My Gosh !!! This is not a drum battle. This is a Shed !!! These guys aren't going at it ... they're playing off each other. To decide who's better isn't bad, but these guys have qualities about them we don't even know. Sure, you can write what it shows in the video, but overall is something you really need to research.

    Peace,

    The Drum Commentator

  • @paulalexanderjohnson Well said man.

  • thomas lil beast but tony iz a monster so i gotta give my vote 2 him cause i think he had way better combonations than thomas.but thomas iz a unique drumer he iz a drumer that iz rare to find

  • Thomas but they are both gods. Thomas is unique in style and feel and so much more relaxed than Tony. But Tony is a monster and has more talent than my whole family tree. But its like Ive heard his sh*t b4 (Tony) where as Thomas I was like "Thats cool, sweet,fu**in awesome" Thomas has pocket grooves like Gadd and original like JoJo. Tony is like a piece of all the god drummers stemming from Rich and up, rolled into one hence we heard it b4.

I infect you all with Tommy Lee drumming mwa hahahaha

  • well said NooutletNJ...dude said it all. Fuq how do i comment now dude, you stole my comment....LOL...peace

  • what the hell is frizzy talkin about, wut a fuckin moron. This was a tough one. Difficulty goes to thomas pridgen, but tony was more fun because he didnt stray too far from the beat.

  • HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!!

    HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA..........

    i sleep.

  • Pridgen - HANDS DOWN! He is his own drummer, a MONSTER drummer, and has a UNIQUE playing style and off-color chops that can't be matched by generic master drummer Royster. Don't get me wrong, Royster is EXCELLENT and I've been playing my whole life and can't match him chop-for-chop, but technically speaking, Pridgen has his own style and THAT is what defines a drummer more than playing recycled chops with speed and agility. Pridgen has great feel, pocket, creativity and taste behind the kit.

  • tony had more accents land on (in my opinion) more favorable beats.

the other guy sounds like he resolves his fills in awkward places, where tony makes it sound like its more apart of the song.

  • I disagree. Royster is a monster drummer, BUT Pridgen a unique drummer. Royster has "speed and flare," but he plays very common chops and beats that are recycled and over-used unlike Pridgen who who's playing isn't "awkward" at all - he plays certain drags and off-color chops that most drummers wouldn't understand. He has HIS OWN style unlike some drummers. In my opinion, Royster is great but generic - I can name 10 other R&B drummers who play identical chops as where Pridgen is unique.

  • That's a good disagreement. I can see where you are coming from, but I wouldn't say Royster is playing recycled grooves and licks. Pridgen didn't sit well with me because he never resolved anywhere. Like if a trumpet player were to just play a solo high fast and loud, sure it sounds cool, but if you don't hear any of the trumpet player's tone it's kind of worthless. So sure his style was very unique, probably more so than Royster's, but it was not tastefully implemented.

  • I thought Pridgen was on top of the beat. his flams were awkward, what I mean by that is that he threw out a bunch of flams off of 2 separate toms/snare that made it either seem like he was hitting things a little too early, or threw off any sense of time to the listener.

I liked Tony more because he was riding in the pocket more so than Pridgen, played with direction, and had more variety in his solo--with Pridgen he kept playing the same little 4 or 5 snare drum hit motive over and over,

  • like he couldn't escape it.

  • @NoOutletNJ ... dude that's true. The only reason why Tony is playing identical chops to R&B drummers is because they're playing an R&B type kind of song. Royster seems to adapt to genre's when he plays it. When Pridgen plays, he uses his own style for anything. Look up Thomas playing with Thomas Lang, he still is playing with his own style. Tony has developed from 2005 so you gotta see what he does now.

  • It was like "Finish Him" Tony did his thang like always

  • type "the king of drummers" for gadd, vinnie and weckl together for a more seasoned controlled solo extravaganza...

  • TONY WINS, FATALITY!!!

  • their solos are kinda messy...

  • Tony plays better when he naked, he feels free. On the real though, Tony. Thomas is too much of the same, Tony has more ideas.

  • these two are monsters....but in my opinion tony did better.

  • Tony!!!

  • tony

  • TONY just ...KILLED this!! nothing to be said ..!

  • These guys are technically incredible!! But it is one big MESS!!!!!!!! I scrolled down to read comments with no screen showing and I couldn't tell whos turn it was!! Damn, can you say dynamics!!!!!!!?

  • I agree, would be so much cooler if they put down a massive groove together rather than whatever this is.

No disrespect obviously. I aint ever going to be playing this

  • Fucking Holy Shit ! !

  • y tony always naked man?????no homo lol

  • thomas can lay it down alright but IMO tony is the superior drummer, alot of phrases thomas does i cant make much sense out of. but tonys always seem to groove together no matter how faste tony goes every note is crystal clear, and sometimes thomas gets distorted the faster he goes

  • Mr.Jbones, Learn to spell and some grammar; take some Latin if you can!!! Study on your own when your fingers GETZS tired. Your misspellings and poor grammar are evident, because none of them are typos, (I know you GOTZ finger control if you can out play Mr. Pridogen). They are not textin' mistakes either. Look before you post, especially when you're only writing one line. Try some p'nc't't'n as well. MOST IMPORTANT: "Play WHATEVER YOU WANT BRO'. WE THERE. THIS IS TWO PEOPLE OUT HERE NOT SIX!

  • theres no one that got tony royster, hell i can lay way better tan thomas

  • In yo dreams! LOL Thomas doesn't play any strokes, just smokes. He plays straight from the heart no knowledge needed. Get's phenomonal action on strokes;, 'cause he barely holds sticks and isn't trying to play...............Whatever.

    Michael Jackson R.I.P

  • The greatest drum battle/duet, of 20th /21st c is Ginger Baker and Art Blakey ,18 minutes no accompaniment at tragic 1972 Olympic Games. Mentor Art unschooled, pupil Ginger most schooed knowledgeable all time done everything is jazz ; most of career in Rock, Arfrican."Thee Album"-Ginger Baker. 17 min. duet GB kit, kit player Tony Allen tapping ,i.e. ebony sticks, wood block, hand drums, etc --Fela Ransome Kuti, "Africa '70 w/ Ginger Baker". Bonus 5th cut .

  • Drum Battle!, Drum Battle!, We're talkin' about a Drum Battle! Come on man, we're talkin' 'bout a Drum. Drum Battle!---A.I. Verson. This is not a drum battle or cutting session, a diaolouge . Not playing fast, hard to show what they can do. As I've watched Thomas every time before as his style is so unique, while Tony was playing a lot; I've finally heard to how great he's playing; Thomas gives him space to play; plays on small part of kit; easier to hear/watch Tony by contrast.

  • Both great of course, but Thomas what a revelation. Not schooled like Art Blakey, or selfschooled like JoJo, but plays so much with so little and so effortless. Wastes no energy with sticks, fun to see him rise up, plays with whole body and soul. You know hasn't thought out one thing before he plays or strokes, fundamentals etc. Love to see him play w/Jeff Beck and Tal Wilkenfeld; would inspire Jeff as much as Tal; also with Beck!!! Thank you so much and 'Gospelchops. Peace!

  • blah blah blah..

if u think u'r good on playing solo, just try to put just one of ur video in here mate.

  • Tony is a MONSTER with no exaggeration and this is a testament to his humbleness I guess. The other is as good as I am and guess what.....no one knows who am or even cares. He just got in with the right crowd.

  • royster wins in every category

  • pridg is WAY too on top of the beat. Tony has more relaxed subdivisions and overall feel.

  • i cant believe anyone would put jordison and royster on the same planet. i would love to see tony shut the world up and destroy jordison in a drum battle. jordison moderately fast double bass, thats it. derek roddy plays better metal than jordison. Joey just has his name out there more, thats all. Joey is a good drummer, but i am over people saying hes better than a guy like tony royster jr.

  • fuck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • u'd think that tony royster would be a christian cuz only church folk got talent like that in music.........

Tony Royster was killin so he got my vote

  • wow you think only religious ppl have talent? .........how fucking ignorant are you, 'only church folk got talent like that'......shut the hell up

  • dang man calm down

if u had a life u'd understand thats my opinion and thats what the comment box is for

    and also its the internet

    man grow up..........

  • how do they get their kits to sound like that?!

  • quality! lol :p

also some drummers "cheat" and buy "triggers" for their set. it's a little sensor you attach to the drums. then run that through a board from an electric drum kit. you can get the exact sounds you want with out having to sit there for an hour tunning and using dampening pads and gel. :p

  • Joey jordison better than Tony royster? No way man, and i'm in no way a hater of joey, but the solo Tony did when he was ten had so much more dynamics and rhythm than any solo i've seen joey play, besides i couldn't see joey playing gospel lol!

  • As I said, I just feel that Royster and Pridgeon sometimes "overplay" and in doing so, lose rhythm. I feel that Jordison keeps his stuff tighter but I also see what your saying about 'dynamics' and I respect your opinion mate.

  • Joey Jordison?! Dave Lombardo?!

As much as i love metal you have got to be kidding. Both these drummers will kill them in all aspects of drumming, period!

  • @fatsobumcheeks absolutely right!!! first of all, respect to lombardo and jordison even though they could never hang with this style. second of all with all due respect, fuck joey. he does the same fill in almost every spot, but thats besides the point.

the point is these drummers are among the greats such as dennis chambers, being that tony was partially taught by him and tony SR.

pridgen is owning in his own way, anyone who played for mars volta has to

  • wats gospel chops?

  • Thomas got ate up

  • thomas does just the same figures.tony's more diverse.

  • honestly

    l DONT KNOW WHO WON

    cos l was far away

    l got blown away!!!!

  • tony doubled everything thomas done(listen to it)

    them keyboard is banging

  • thomas ruled

    but pretty close though

  • Its fuckin awesome tony royster!!!!

  • mane........Thomas got chopped up! lol

  • Bring zach hill in in there,It's over!

  • Drumming is about fast rolls and every other kind of roll that's what makes these guys professionals they can do what ordinary drummers cant that just like a singer if he/she cant hit high notes or control their voice what is it that is so special about them...

  • In my opinion Tony won, but thomas is a beast also, drumming is about fast rolls and everything else these guys are professionals for a reason...they can do what ordaniry drummers can't. That's just like a singer if a professional singer can't really hit high notes what makes him so special or if he/she doesn't have good control over their voice?

  • ive been drumming all my life and tony is a beast an won this battle but yall cant be making it seem like its murder for thomas to go against him cus he nice too....he can bang with tony, he just not better dan him..

  • Wow!! What a battle....Thomas did a good job but Tony won...thats my opinion.

  • I'm watching this and just reminiscing on some old school Street Fighter killer combos. Ken vs Ryu. They're both invincible n exceptional. As a big fan of the greatest fighting game ever created, these guys are REAL and equally young n amazing....If only humans can trash out their issues in such a manner!!!...only then will we begin to see a better world... YOU WIN!!! PERFECT!!!

  • who cares who's better they are both doing better than all of us... non of us is well know like them so who cares. they are two phenomenal drummers!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Personally I like the old school jazz drummers(Frankie Dunlap, Baby Dodds, Papa Joe). I don't paticularly like all the fast rolls and loud playing. The jazz cats back in day had class, cool, and calmness. So many fast rolls is unatural to me.

  • Couldnt be more on

  • yeh common this was just a SICK performance. you can't discredit pridgen at all. Proper wicked vid

  • yo da loser who said how about neil pert dey should jus go kill demselves tony or thomas would demolish neil pert their anatomy beats his anyday

  • Drumming is not all about who can do licks and rolls the fastest. Its more so about creativity and feeling. Speed is good but not always the main objective. Thomas and Tony are both world class drummers with very different styles respect them. Half of u people commenting probably cant even play the drums.

  • You're all wrong... There's a reason why one of these guys is in the sickest rock bands of our time. No one beats PRIDGEN'S displacement.

  • tony is definitely better than thomas but saying 10 times better is overexagerrating it.. Thomas also deserves some credit here and he did put up a fight in this battle

  • i love 2 see people agreeing wit me 4 once tony is 10times better den thomas he kilt him in this video people shouldt try goin against him

  • cmon tony dont waste your time killin noobs ! lol :P

  • what about neil pert

  • Kids...don't try this at home.

People shouldn't even bother challenging Tony.

  • tony u wrong4 doing that kid like that dont u have any feelings 4 the weak

  • Tony don't kill him!!!!!!!!
