I had the great fortune of hearing Rockin Sidney in person. His wife Carol worked with us in Lake Charles, La. Sidney was very generous with his music. What a treat to hear this again.
dont remember how old i was... probably round 6 or 7... my mom called the radio station an had em play for me for my birthday... i remember i was surprised when i heard my name... this is a great oldie...
My aunt used to have this song on vinyl and I would ask her to play it for me when I went over there. It used to crack me up to listen to it and still does! Thank you for posting this video!
This song is a staple down here in South Eastern La like shrimp and grits, gumbo, and jambalaya! It is a reflection of our heritage and our resilience!
Played this for my classes at San Diego City College this term. One student just blurted out, "My Moma used to sing that to me all the time!" Thank you for the post...it is a joy to hear.
Daddy used to play this all the time, he passed going on a year ago now, and i came across this, brought back a lot of memories. Thank you for posting this song. :)
I've been looking for this song for years. This is really the first zydeco song I liked, before I knew what zydeco was, and the only zydeco song I heard until after college. Now I'm a fan of zydeco/cajun. Cool to see him in an interview, too. Thanks for sharing.
growing up in Lake Chales, La. i used to here this all the time. zydeco is in our blood in southwest louisiana. S/O to all the other creoles. we still here ya heard me.
@86babymarquel -- I grew up there too and we covered this song in one of our bands. Hearing it makes me miss Lake Charles and all the great music of SW Louisiana.
learned to dance the Cajun 2 step to this one with my Daddy...a TRUE Cajun/NDN man...love you Daddy where ever you are out there...missing you always and all the good times we had<3
my uncle has called me "Toot Toot" my entire life...he sang "dont mess w/ my toot toot" also, he even shouted it at my H.S. graduation!...All this time i thought he just made it up, little did i know it was a real song! Wow lol
I saw Rockin' Sidney do this live at a Cajun Festival in Galveston Texas before this song hit the charts. I remember thinking at the time "Why isn't this a smash hit yet?"
I will have this song stuck in my head for weeks. I should have known better than to go looking for it. Its always been one of those to drive me batty because it would stick forever and a day.
I saw Rockin' Sydney perform this in Galveston Texas a couple of months before this hit the charts. I remember telling my buddies at the time "I wonder why this isn't a hit?" A short time later it was!
My Dad *loved* this song...he use to sing to it when I was a little girl. My brother would always tell me that he'd sing it about me and get all worked up. Needless to say, when I got married I made a special request to find this song and had it played at my wedding...my Dad absolutely loved it! I found his CD and listen to it from time to time, makes me smile to have a piece of my Dad's past so current in my life :)
wow, hard to believe this song is 25 years old..sounds great still..where is this from? I can't place the host..Gotta love Rockin' Sidneys hat.. thanks for posting this..
@dbd1353 it has to be older then that because when i was little like maybe 4 i heard it and was singin it around the house and i am 34 now. so i figured it would have to be like 30 years now right?
I have the single 45 record, it's worn but it still plays! I was a kid when he was around! I played it on my Fisher Price record player (still works too). Loved it then and still do! MEMORIES!!!!!!!!! Great post, thanks!!!!!
@chinchillas2cool - I had the 45 too, but for the life of me, I cannot remember the song from the other side! (or if it was even Rockin' Sidney's version, though it sounds that way) What was the b-side of your 45?
I remember when my daughter would sing to this tune when she was just about 5 yrs old, and my son would dance to it when he was about 6. good tune, gr8 rhythm and a good beat
thanks for the video! This song will always remind me of the great times I had living in Baton Rouge and Lafayette. I love the Zydeco culture and their great sense of family, music, and FOOD!!!
I'm from SE TX and I'm a Texas born cajun and I was 10 in 1985. Everytime I went with my dad to his KC Hall, my older brother and I would play pool with the other kids of the Knights, and I would always choose this song on the jukebox. This song brings back great memories. (FYI Knights of Columbus is a religious fraternal organization).
Had a friend from Louisiana, living in Blaine Wa, bartender at Bob's tavern. This would come on the jukebox during the band's break and he would haul me onto the dance floor. Man could this man jive! Thanks for the memories. 10+*s
