  • this is so weird.....

  • ik wist niet dat je TenshinSho-den Katori Shinto Ryu ook in Arnhem kon trainen

  • kijk maar eens op w w w ogamidojo. nl

  • you are right this is sugino ha. we where just talking about different brances.

  • small details are indeed not important. i did not know that sugawara was asked for the "job" as headmaster. in my understanding the oldest son of otake will succeed him. he was recently in the netherlands.

  • Yes, Otake Sensei's son may indeed succeed him as headmaster. I regret posting my previous comment, as it is not my business to make the matter public. Whether I am correct or not, please disregard my previous comment. Thanks, and keep training hard.

  • I agree, application should be explained. The attack to the knee in the kata of itsutsu no tachi is the same for both Sugawara and Otake sensei. Also, the appplication you explained (inside leg) is the same. Sugawara Tetsutaka has not changed any curriculum or technique, and teaches Katori as it is taught by Otake sensei. Special classes are dedicated to the instruction of bunkai - very important. Thanks.

  • i can see that sugawara is a student of otake. and i never saw sugawara in action. just some of his students. and i think that it is poorly done. otake-style is very beautyfull. but de sugawara-style is all off. can you also see these differences?

  • i find that there are also differencens between otake and sugawara sensei. is this atack to the knee sugawara? i think we mean the same. because when you atack the leg at knee height. you will stil cut the inside of the leg. but i like always to point out where the atack is aimed at. because when you fail to explain bunkai. it will, over the years, be lost. thx for your comment

  • kaifinn-" correction (in otake style the cut is not the knee. but to the veins in the upper legg"

Correction to correction: You are partly correct in that the mainline (Otake) school executes an attack to the veiny, upper inside leg. However, we attack the knee in kata, the cut to the inside of the leg is "application".

  • in suigino style, we slide along his sword and pushing towards the center of the body. leaving open some options, stab to the belly ore cutting the inside of the leg. in bunkai, we also, like in otake style. cut the neck of kirikomi. in both styles there is no blocking. the outside maybe different. but the inside is the same. correction (in otake style the cut is not the knee. but to the veins in the upper legg) telll me some more differences i like to see if i can find the simularities. thx

  • Kaifinn, would you mind elaborating on a section of your post? You described an attack to the abdomen from shidachi after the first block. This makes sense, as it would be the same as an attack to the knee in the mainline school, as you are employing the same blocking principle. However, I did not see the attck you described, only a makiuchi stike. Thanks

  • when shidachi walks backwards in ino kamae. then he makes wath we call sumesu. at the end of the sumesu there is al little sliding movement (almost not seen) in bunkai we will step much more forwards.kirikomi goes to gedankamae only after feeling this sliding motion.

  • And some major ones :-). When the uchidachi(left) makes his first strike, the shidachi(right) strikes down on the sword and counter-attacks. In Otake-style there is a blocking and then offensive cut down to the knee before launching the counter-strike. Thats one difference.

  • that's possible because the core is the same. but this is not the otake style, this is the suigino style. there are some minor difference.

  • Nice I saw Sensei R Otaki do this, the timming and the focus is the same
