The bible says treat others as you want to be treated.....then why is being gay or lesbian or bisexual so wrong...because we like the same gender or even both.....TO EVERYONE WHO HATES THE LGBT I DO NOT HATE YOU...SO WHY DO YOU HATE ME AND EVERYONE LIKE ME!!!
@thejustin23g, I think that we will probably disagree about certain things in the Bible. My view is that the Bible is man's interpretation of God's word and accordingly may not be completely accurate, such as planting two different crops in the same field being a sin. I believe that we should interpret the Bible metaphorically as opposed to literally, as that would allow us to better accept everyone and bring us closer to the universal and unconditional concept of love.
Since when did we become defined by our sexuality. Is being gay who you are or what you do. I am a black woman and I did not make up racism.... I was born into a racist world.... my ancestors were brought to america on ships.... and if I were to go to Africa today, they'd call me a "cotton picker".... some Gays have this fantasy that they can somehow relate to the civil rights movement and it's just so stupid. They're forcing people to be comfortable with a personal lifestyle decision
@carissasoul77, sexual orientation is a part of who we are as people, and there's much more to all of us than that one facet. Sexual orientation should be as important as eye color or hand orientation, but it has become important because of prejudice and discrimination against LGBT people. There is an LGBT civil rights movement because LGBT people are fighting for full equal civil rights, dignity and respect. You don't have to be comfortable with LGBT people, but you should respect everyone.
@carissasoul77, in addition, I am a gay man, and I didn't make up homophobia - I was born into a homophobic world. The rest of my family is straight (at least as far as I know), but there are countless gay people who are gay because they are - we didn't choose to be gay, it's an immutable, unchangeable trait like eye color - and we deserve to live our lives with the ones we love as much as straight people do the same. So yes, I do relate to the African-American civil rights movement.
@carissasoul77 What is wrong with you? This is not about people being "comfortable with a 'lifestyle'". It's about a whole community (tax-paying American citizens) that are being discriminated against and oppressed, relegated to second-class citizenship. Same sex relationships exist! People need to get over it. They aren't going to go away or change because some people "feel uncomfortable". I am hoping LGBT equality comes soon for the USA.
I hope they start indoctrinating children with this shit, they need to teach boys that it's ok to kiss boys and girls that it's ok to kiss girls. I think it's going to be great to see middle school boys making out in the hallway. Kids getting sex changes.... this world is fucking backwards.
@carissasoul77, if you ask me, children should be appropriately taught to understand that some people are gay while the rest are straight and more importantly taught to treat everyone with dignity and respect no matter who we love. When kids become teenagers, they should be taught that it's all right if they like someone of the same gender. Making out in school hallways however would be inappropriate behavior if you ask me. Were you being sincere or sarcastic in your comment?
@AbjectConformity, your comment is very hateful and ignorant against LGBT people, not to mention it attempts to dehumanize someone like me. Furthermore, as an FYI, I don't tolerate attitudes that suggest telling someone to "shut the f*ck up", and you can learn to give respect towards everyone in your comments, or you will be blocked from this channel.
Yeah, I totally do. One of the ways I treat others with dignity and respect is by not slandering people by slapping the word ignorant on them every time they show a different set of beliefs than mine.
fixerupper, The Chairman of The NAACP spoke at This Equality March and he said That Gay Rights are NOT Special Rights. He also once was asked why the NAACP was involved in the LGBT movement and he replied " As long as there are People that Do Not have equal Cival Rights, There will be a need for the NAACP. Also, did you know that the man who organized the March On Washinton for African Americans, was an OUT Gay Man? His Name Was Bayard Rustin. he was Dr. Kings right hand man.
fixerupper1, why do Christians need to produce an up-rising when they can follow the American way like everyone else and live and let live, in other words treat each other with dignity and respect? This is the USA; we have the right to freedom of religion, and being Christian is not a requirement of citizenship. And besides, what makes morals good or bad is the dichotomy of love and hate. Gay people love differently, but they love, and that is what's important. It's bad to hate, period.
Its interesting that you make the christians the bad guy here,, when the Gay agenda is an (Act-up) sometimes violent, very aggressive movement. The gay marriage issue stands against the family and the church both. Its a moral issue, and a matter of protecting the children from perversion and attack from Man-boy-Love and aggressive homosexual agendas. You dont see straight people protesting out front of a gay establishment.
1) Advocating that Christians should live and let live is advocating for American virtues, not painting Christians as bad people. We shouldn't be quick to point fingers for the sake of pointing.
2) If there is a gay agenda, it is equality, dignity and respect, and that's an agenda that every American would aspire to implement. I am relatively new in advocating for civil rights, but our community has been very peaceful and respectful in our movement this past year.
Peaceful and respectful would be very refreshing, no doubt. I guess its the confusion about Civil Rights. That was already won throught the inspiration of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. That was the civil rights movement. This homosexual agenda has nothing to do with the Dr. King movement. That was won for Black people. Homosexuality doesnt have the kindredship with the civil rights move. Hopefully people will understand that, and decern the clear distinction.
fixerupper1, peace and respect are welcome in my book.
The LGBT Civil Rights Movement (CRM) and African-American CRM are different movements, born from the same yearning for freedom and equality but addressing different matters. The LGBT CRM is a valid movement because LGBT people are a suspect class of people as determined/inferred by passed legislation and state/federal courts, yet we are currently unequal. Kindredship is not an appropriate means for determining suspect classification.
God sees all men as equal, and used Dr. Martin Luther King to help guide the Civil Rights movement. Unfortunately God sees homosexuality and all pervisions like man boy love, pedephilia, beastiality, necropheilia, as deviant abhorent behavior. God judged the two cities of Sodom and Gomorrah for their wickedness, and he destroyed them. Now becuase its 2009 we are supposed to believe that God in heaven changed his mind on the matter?
In the United States, we have the right to freedom of religious belief. You believe that God sees being gay as deviant. I believe that God loves and embraces all people gay and straight. We differ in our religious beliefs, but we both have a right to practice our religions and believe in our religious beliefs. Yet, we can agree to disagree, and also live and let others live.
This is what I mean by treating each other with dignity and respect.
We all believe that God is love,, no question. We cannot however tell God that his bible is absolete, or that we wish to rewrite his holy word. Its an abomination for a man to lay with another man. I cannot tell God that that scripture no longer has meaning. We can deny, close our minds, hide our heads like an Ostrich, but it will not make Gods word go away.
Gods word is forever settled in heaven. It will not pass away. He has provided a way out from sin and death, the blood.
fixerupper1, you are free to believe the Bible, and I would completely respect you for it. I don't agree with the Bible regarding being gay, and that's maybe one area where we differ. I'm fine to agree to disagree with you, and I hope that we can live and let us both live as well and treat each other with dignity and respect for our differences. You're completely free to believe as you do, and I am as well in my life, and I think that's what makes our country so beautiful :).
I agree with you on each of us living our own lives, in our own convictions. Hopefully folks will understand when they read my stand for the bible and living a christian lifestyle choice. Take care
U can be a Christian, Muslim or Jewish and be LGBT. I know what Leviticus says, but 2 pages back from that it also says it's an abomination to eat Shrimp, ( Or Any Shellfish ) it's an obomination to eat Pork. Im sure you feel that your doing some good spreading the word as you see it, BUT, this particular Video and place is about Equality B^)
It is either be a christian. or decide which of the other lifestyles that you decide. One cannot be a pedephile, homosexual, or and talebearer, or a murderer, and then some how be a christian. That contradicts everthing that the bible stands for. The bible is clear,, Sin or Salvation, its a persons choice.
Also, its Gay marriage legislation that brings me to the stump. I did not rattle cages first.

There are many thieves and murderers who consider themselves Christian. And who the hell are you to say that they aren't?
3) Our children should learn to treat others with dignity and respect, and realize that understanding concepts is different than believing in concepts. Children of same-gender parents exist, and they are entitled to equality.
4) It is offensive and dehumanizing to equate gay people with pedophiles, and I don't appreciate it.
5) Straight people have not only protested in many places - they have also taken away my civil rights, and that is the most un-sacred thing to do as an American.

the best speech, bar none, was that by urvashi vaid, who integrated the entirety of queer rights struggle and its political dimensions PERFECTLY... no other speech compared...

derron22, thank you so much. Unfortunately, I ran out of battery on my camcorder by the time Sherry Wolf and others spoke, or I would have included parts of her speech without doubt.
