I saw guys fishing ice fishing right next to flowing water. Current breaks are very specific, the ice along the break and be 3 feet thick, basically you can cast right off the edge.

wow still 18 inches , next to my house in montreal North the ice is already breaking up.

Ice was still close to 2 feet thick, over 18 inches of solid black ice.

No, it was definitely a pike, just very pale coloration and pattern.
