this is gonna just blow up in there faces just like how the umpire strike went awhile back all that the networks will do in a month when the new eposiodes run out is go to the colleges and hire kids from there who are not union members
blckrubber- for example if you watch "Desparate Housewive" online they'll play around six commercials and lable that "promotional" while they make millions off the ads. They are not paying actors or writers for re-use of the materials.
We're proud to support the strike. They give us what what we want. They should be paid fairly for their work. Without the writers, there is nothing. It's extraordinarily hard work.
GOOD FOR YOU GUYS! those suits who just take in the money need to be put in their place! writers are completely taken for granted! FIGHT UNTIL YOU WIN!!!
Ooh, great idea. Let's get those approval ratings down to single digits...
Ann Coulter. Hmm, I wonder if she kisses her mother with that mouth? Tasty. Always a gentle ray of sunshine, that one is...
"Allow the businesses to set their price." Wow, how naive. The "businesses" already HAVE "set their price"! They refuse to pay ANYTHING to the writers for their new media content. Dunno 'bout you, Ohio, but when I work, I expect to be paid. Well, so do the writers. That's why they're striking.
Reality TV "writing" isn't the issue here. The real issue is New Media and if writers will be paid for their work there.
Copywriting is writing for commerce, not writing for an artistic form, such as scriptwriting. It's a different style of writing with its own payment structure. (see Apples v. Oranges)
Yes, those folks are all important, but face it, without a script, there IS no production. Not only are the writers underpaid by the studios, they're undervalued as well.
All the writers want is to be paid fairly. They're not gonna quit, but they are gonna stand up for what's right.

3. The whole notion of "but studio heads have toooo much money" is also a crock of shit. Studio heads make bank because they work their asses off... they have gone to grad school and beyond and manage multi billion dollar corporations. They make the big bucks because every single action they make could jeopordize hundreds of millions of dollars. Writers, on the other hand, have very little stake. They mess up, worst that happens is gets cancelled.
your missing the point as well. the future of tv is the internet. as years go by, people will be watching their favorite shows online instead of on tv. tv's will be more intergrated with the internet. they're taking a stand now, so in the future they won't have to. and besides all unions have their pros and cons, your just trying to discredit the cause by going around the cause itself.
I suppose I should clarify that I'm not replying to DancyRobot. The most hilarious comment was the "grad school" comment. For example, Jeff Zucker did apply for law school. He wasn't accepted. The degree necessary for him to be President & CEO of NBC Universal? A B.A. in American History. "Grad school." ROFL!
You clearly don't work in the industry. Most studio heads have not gone "to grad school and beyond." Many of them were assistants who Peter Principled their way up the corporate ladder. Most of them lack specific skills that qualify them to run a studio. Fact. Do some research if you want.
If you said something this stupid in my presence, I would probably smack you in the mouth.
Go read "Atlas Shrugged" again, you ill-informed corporate buttboy.

1. The WGA is full of shit. It requires up-and-coming writers to pass up otherwise great jobs just to prove a point. They ONLY support those who are writing for big TV Shows full time, and force companies in Forced Union States to only hire their bretheren, thereby forcing writers who do not support them to pay dues... it is proven these types of actions only turn more people out on the street and kill our economy.
Why should they? No one is stopping those employees from forming a union and participating in collective bargaining to get higher wages and better benefits...oh wait. Except for maybe Charbucks' management... >:-[

You selfish fucking Starbucks employee. You didn't say one word in your ignorant pissy comment about all the people in the world that don't even make $7/day and think you're royalty for making that in an hour...fuck you...
you need to look up the information on what this strike is about before you say such things. It's very important to the entire industry that the writers don't let up on this one. Some fights just need to be fought

How exactly are the networks making money from the internet? And why exactly should the writers benefit?
Maybe they should quit writing and become producers or distributors.
These people are self-important union goons, they will lose this ridiculous fight.

chanel9105 4 years ago
Here is why the writers will ultimately lose this fight.
Writers are employees. They get paid when a show does well, or when a show fails.
On the other hand, studios take a huge risk on each new project, so they deserve the rewards when a show takes off.
Sorry you guys are too blinded by self-importance to see things clearly.
blackrubberbag 4 years ago
Define necessity. The writers affect more than you realize. It's amazing how you can trivialize what you don't understand.
Every time you watch TV or a movie or a commercial - It is all thanks to a writer. It is a very hard job.

You guys are pathetic.
Trying to impose your union on non-scripted shows is simply ridiculous.
Listen: Copywriters don't make residuals on the products they help sell, why should entertainment writers?
The gaffers, the wardrobe people, & caterers are all important to the production of entertainment...why not give them a slice of DVD sales?
If you aren't happy with your pay, find a new line of work.
