  • so many good memories LOVE IT!

  • God bless ya, for postin' it. Always wanted to see what Jean Terrell looked like. Thanx! Have a blessed week!

  • Great song and a perfect combination of lovely ladies singing it. Diana had a nice voice but when I see this edition of the Supremes , they actually seemed liked they enjoyed themselves.

  • Mary a fantastic dancer! Jean radiant; Cindys replacement-blah.

  • say whatever you will but this right here is good stuff - brilliant in fact...

  • One of the best songs from the Supremes!

  • Mary was same with or without Diana -- she was a backup singer - not the lead, which in the end was the problem. Diana will forever be the villain - no matter - all that matters is the music, not the personalities.

  • @kikatx08 Not quite. Once Diana left Mary was doing a few leads inthe show and on record. the Right on album was the last Supreme album to feature just one lead singer. mary had her own spot in their shows.

  • wow she was and still is great BG

  • Chills. So FINE!

  • DetroitLives313, Give it a rest, there is no way to Elevate Mary Wilson beyond the Level of a Barely Adequate Background Singer, Diana & Jean brought home the Bacon, Miss mary's Ooh's & Ahh's were largely Irrelevant, she was just Lucky to be there

  • Mary Wilson and Jean Terrell were just more soulful, better singers than Diana Ross. This again proves it.

  • NEWSFLASH Nellie David 1000, The Post Diana Supremes only achieved 2 Top 10 Hits in the US, (1970-1977) as opposed to 12 Number 1's with Ross, Any success they had after Diana's departure was due to Jean Terrell

  • They look like a trio of American Airlines flight attendants about to board their Boeing 707 flight to Newark.

  • good thing jean sung the lead because mary sings like a frog.

but the bargain basement supremes didn't last to long.

The 1960 supremes were glamorous but not these supremes tired and tacky

  • the supremes had a huge hit with this record 7 top ten hits on their own . a fact. even though berry gordy the motown boss kept their singles back from release when ross had a single out so as to let ross have a hit in the early years without competing with the group. fact. true fact. very very unfair . all three girls commented on this.

  • @neildavid1000 This song was also a #1 smash hit on the R&B Charts in 1970. The Supremes recorded some of their very best music in the 70's. More Soulful and definitely more of group sound.

  • jean is a better singer as are cindy and mary it must have been a huge reliefe to get shut of the bullfrog ross. of course the girls are happier who wouldnt be. three beauties and not an ugly sister in sight. enough said.

  • pAUL, whoever, you need to shut the fuck up!! you don't no shit about music!!

  • This is a nice kinescope of The Supremes on "Soul Train". This show was a "lip-synch" show, like "American Bandstand" was. But with that said, the women put on a solid performance of "Stoned Love". It's probably the best one they ever did for this song on television. Thanks, Cowbananas, for sharing this performance of The Supremes here at YouTube! :-) :-) :-) :-) :-)

  • diana who ?

  • @ubsme2 muppet !

  • Mary reminds me of Lois Reeves of the Vandellas....Getting down in the background....So cool!

  • Miss Mary is Happy because, Jean is there to Pay her Bills Now!, The Happiness didn't Last Long, Miss Mary soon found things about Jean to Bitch about

  • Mary looks so much happier with Diana gone.

  • @oweneden agree

  • @oweneden I was watching and thinking the same thing lol

  • My favorite Supremes tune of all.

  • the most Supreme tune !!

  • Musically, the best Supremes lineup after Blondie & Diana departed.

Jean Terrell never had the group scene in mind for the long haul, but

hammered out a very distinctive look and sound nonetheless.

  • Melodically, the best Supremes song, in my opinion.

  • Love this Tune, but don't believe Marginal Mediocre Miss Mary was Vital in any way to it's Success, It's Jeans moment to Shine, Miss Mary has spent 47 Years basking in the reflected Glory of Others, Time to give a Much Deserved Shout Out to Jean!

  • This is when you actually had to have talent to make it big.

  • @killerproctologist88 Or the ability to attach your Ass to someone who did have Talent (Right Mary)

  • HalleluYAH, Messiah Yeshua, Jesus Christ our King, Praise YHWH for Him all you children of YHWH through Him!

  • @TheReturnOfBigBear Mary and Jean did have their differences but Jean left Motown because she wasn't getting the promotion she thought she should get. She wanted the Supremes to leave Motown as a group but Mary knew Berry wouldn't let them keep the Supremes name if they tried it so Jean went solo.

  • loved them even after Diana Ross left

  • GREAT SONG BY THE GREATEST TRIO IN HISTORY. Jean Terrell sound DIVINE!

  • best old school song eva shout out to Jeff Fort Stone love chief Malik Salaamu Jiwe Penda %5

  • And they sure knew how to move!

  • I actually like her voice better than Diana Ross. It has a fuller, richer tone.

  • @TheReturnOfBigBear YOU SCUM! In their own privacy The Supremes have a right to like or dislike other people and IT IS NONE OF YOUR DAMNED BUSINESS. Try REALITY for a change. Whatever happened in The Supremes IT DIDN'T HAPPEN TO YOU.. You ARE NOT a Supreme!. Nobody has done anything to YOU, nobody has cashed YOUR royalty checks or sang YOUR SONGS or go to bed with YOUR BOSS. WAKE UP! And get a life of YOUR OWN. The Supremes are all senior citizens now and time is RUNNING OUT!

  • This guy "TheReturnOfBigbear" is a loser with no life...he goes on every Mary Wilson video and makes disparaging remarks about her. He's a troll with various user names and often replies to his other user names..LOSER TROLL

  • as far as i'm concerned this is a supremes classic and Jean deserves a medal for her singing on this recording.

it will of course be difficult to replace Diana Roaa but Jean made a fantastic effort

WELL DONE JEAN, MARY and CINDY. Tony g0mqg

  • It would've been GREAT if Cindy stayed in the group and we never heard of Lynda Laurence or Susaye Greene!!!!!

  • I think it's good that they chose a lead singer that was different from Diana, it's shows that they were not afraid to move forward. This is a great song!

  • Just stop talking about how she "compares" to Ross, she is a different person with a great voice of her OWN, just enjoy the damned song.

It is a classic no matter WHO sang lead.

  • @Discoboy504 It's human nature! You're right though-classic song.

  • @PaulDePace And you think these expression where somehow better ha ha ha great! ...

  • @PaulDePace The analogy Babe Ruth v/s Micheal Jordan is just huge stretch to say the least ! That's two totally different generations ,cultures, time spans & even type of ball sport. LOL These singing women {Ross and Terrell} are of the same era.... I think Ms Terrell might be only a few month's older than Ms Ross.. .As far as the vocals Terrell may have had just a SLIGHTLY more heavy ethic type sound and delivery in her voice, next to Ross' lighter soulful delivery.

  • @BryanOQuinnTV. But Babe Ruth had Lou Gehrig and Michael Jordan had Scottie Pippen. You saw what happened to them when they didn't have them. Same with Diana and Mary Wilson.

  • @Ariamaluum Diana Ross has enjoyed an outstanding solo career ... you and the entire world knows that #Grammy Awards 2012...... Sending out my love and respect to Mary Wilson I denote her as the heartbeat of the Supremes... Diana was the personality.. MOTOWN ROCKS! ...God bless to all!

  • @BryanOQuinnTV Well put!

  • @PaulDePace but as far as the voice training, all the benefits of the modern era advancement and technology??? ...the size of their voices ; vocal stretch , tone and tambour ... there was really not a big difference at all.

It never seizes to amaze me how Diana Ross' success and talent makes people want to attack her.now LOL, I think it says a lot more about them than it could ever say about her! ~ Bryan O'Quinn

  • Look a Mary Wilson go .. She was so wonderful in this era... she made them groove!! Go Mary!! Yes!

  • @PaulDePace You heard me thinking again. And stop taking the words right outta my mouth. And I thought it was shameful how she screwed over the other 2 Supremes. Even if she had to sleep with Barry Gordy to do it. I lost most of any respect I had for Diana when I found that out.

  • @gotch09 First, it's Berry, not Barry Gordy. Second, Diana did not have to sleep with anyone to find fame and success. She had the most commercial sound, the ability to break the color barriers, and crossover and in turn make Gordy and Motown very rich. Third, she did not screw over the other 2 Supremes. Did Michael Jackson screw over his brothers. Did Beyonce screw over the other girls in Destiny's Child?

  • @dscottny I think when admit you've had a illegitimate child by a man that means you slept with him. Years after the fact, Diana did admit one of her children was in fact Barry's, and she passed it off as someone else's.

  • I love Diana Ross. But I always thought Jean was more attractive. Diana, though, was a better performer. Give and take.

  • Yes Jean Terrell was a plus. she was the real deal and had the group in mind and not just for a stepping stone. don't get me wrong,i loved diana the most, because i don't care what mary wilson may say, without diana ross as lead singer the supremes would have long faded from the scene. diana had that something extra.i'm suprise that mary was not singing lead on this song,i read where she was mad that she didn't have any leads when diana was with the group. anyway i love this song.it's a classic.

  • Mary looks radiant and what a great dancer!!Jean fantastic.

  • @jazzscherzo Interesting opinion. I feel that Jean Terrell was a huge plus and that the Supremes found their highest peak when Diana Ross left. Funny old world....

  • @Cowbananas Or perhaps they went in a different direction and were bound too when Diana left? She had a unique voice, so things were bound to change. I agree that Jean Terrell was a fantastic singer. And their material post-Diana speaks for itself - Nathan Jones, Bad Weather etc., etc.

  • @TheReturnOfBigBear Okay, have it your way.

  • @TheReturnOfBigBear The Bear made his way to Hollywood, where he got a job in that sitcom about the two fat working parents in Ohio. He played the couch, because they needed someone fatter than the two leads actors. Plus, from his back hair they were able to knit an afghan that remained on the couch for the entire run of the series. But he didn’t make it past the pilot. In the original pilot, they family had a dog, and during taping the dog kept licking the couch, right between the cushions.

  • @TheReturnOfBigBear Go ahead and call me a troll - it means I've lived a nice long life. Seeing how most of my generation were lost at the begininng of the AIDS crisis, I'm grateful for the time I've spent here. Now, go ahead and make a snide comment about it. Take your best shot. Speaks more of your character than mine.

  • @KnowWhatIThink Your last post is just ridiculous! What does this have to do with anyone who lived thru the AIDS epidemic? The whole gay world lived thru that and we all lost friends to it. This is not the place to bring up your troubled past! If you think its ok to take a cheap shot at bigbear (see your silly scribblings below) and not to take one back on the chin, then dont comment in the first place!

  • Comment removed

  • @KnowWhatIThink LMAO...oooh! my sides are splitting...you're so unbelievable funny...you should perhaps think of a career in writing...maybe you'd be good at writing biographies that are full of lies and embellishments...just like the ones miss mary wrote..

Hysterical coming from a fan of Shaking Stevens!

JEEEEZE! Shaking Stevens? Sad.... so sad!!

  • If Amy Winehouse would have covered this song, she'd have a bonafide comeback hit on her hands - beef up the tambourine and more fuzz on the geetar, matey!!!

    Sho' miss that girl!!! RIP

  • I was looking for the real supremes, not the ghetto supremes my bad

  • as usual, Mary is a mess choreographly..

  • @ivyfield shit! Mary Wilson is the choreography, she is the dancer. She is their visual appeal! She is the Supremes!

  • Poor Linda Laurence, she can't keep up with no Mary Wilson! LOL! Great job ladies.

  • I wonder if this tune was the inspiration for those famous Florida "Arrive Stoned" license plates?

  • This combination produced four of the ten best tracks by the Supremes in my opinion.

  • @Flowmotion1000 ABSOLUTELY RIGHT! Vocally/visually a Supreme lineup. Think how much great stuff they could have produced if Motown had backed them and let them record with so many producers who wanted to work with them.

  • Interesting the group tried to move on for a while after Diana Ross. Jean Terrell tried her best....

  • @eyesley and did an amazing job. Typical Diane Ross fan. They may have lost Ross in 1970, but at least they got their SOUL back. And before you trot out that tired ol' "Diana Ross sold millions of records so she must be superior" argument, just remember, the freakin' Spice Girls sold more records than Diana Ross, and they sing just as poorly.

  • @RareMusicalGems Never would have said the above you put in quotes. I am not a typical Diana Ross fan. Just a fan of great music. You don't know me so don't speak of what you don't know. That's how people's feelings get hurt.

  • @eyesley Oh dude I'm sorry, that was meant for someone else! I sincerely apologize, I don't know how that happened! Man, please accept my apology! (So embarrassed right now!) I was replying to someone on another video (had two windows open) who said "Jean Terrell thought she was the (s-word) and did a crappy job" so I replied changing their last sentence, but I was in the wrong window. Dude I'm REALLY really sorry!

  • @RareMusicalGems I think I saw the end of your comment, thinking I was on the other page, and thought I was replying to them. You didn't say anything that deserved that sort of reply. I've seen other comments you've left and think you add a lot of value to discussions! Again, I'm sorry!

  • @eyesley Well since you brought it up, they moved on and way past what the Supremes were with Diana Ross. Here's just another example where they proved that loosing Diane wouldn't no thang........ LOL!

  • @DetroitLives313 Actually, what Stoned Love proved was that given a good tune, Jean could have had a great hit as a solo artist. Anyone could have done the backing vocals (as we all know, was also the case with Diana on lead: their final 2 number 1s being proof of that!)

  • @OnlineAdministrator1 You're still a delusional, dishonest nut I see.....F**K OFF!

  • @TheReturnOfBigBear well, for a few more years anyway...till miss mary needed her ass bailed out!!

  • this is my favorite 'stoned love' performance. i'm glad it's on here. they seem so happy and energetic! and i actually love the pantsuits. tx for posting!

  • I don't care if they were lip synching - this is the best !

Anyone that went through the era wouldn't care either

  • Comment removed

  • In the original show, the group was lip-synching to the single version of the record, not this album version. I love the 45 version--great song that I'm glad Jean could claim as her lead-singer-own, along with Mary and Cindy's actual non-Andantes vocals, during the early '70s. Lynda here lip-synching to Cindy's part was cool, but I missed Cindy in the live line-up. :)

  • Jean never was much of a lip-syncher. Mary could really move!

  • We had the 45 back in the day. Awesome stuff.
