  • she cooks like a korean! we never measure anything!

  • The first ever video ^__^

    You guys are amazing!

  • @puccalovesgaru500 Perhaps they made it that way on purpose, because they knew they were going to serve an audience that includes westerners and most of the time western people can't stand the spicy-ness(?).

  • you guys have improved so much since ur first video

    <3 u 4ever simon and martina!

  • i tried dok bok ki at a korean festival and it was sweet... 0.o i would have prefered if it was spicy.

  • I really really wanna eat this but i cant handle spicy food )): and i hear that koreans really like their spicy foods.....

  • I love dokbokki! But they don't have here where I live so I have to order my supplies online. Plus I'm allergic to fish so I can't even use the fish slices. But I made mines with a chicken broth n it was pretty yummy.

  • @Marmaduke1700 Hi, I'm also a vegetarian. A Korean friend made it for me, and she put in carrot and cabbage. I tried it at home with some vegetarian fish cakes that we get at an Asian grocer and it was pretty good.

  • i need to go to korea and get me some of those green onions

  • This video seems so serious lol..well this IS ur first eatyourkimchi vid..

  • Martina looks so pretty here! =]

  • I just ate lunch....and after watching this I'm hungry again.

  • what is korean people favorite food??? i know food its very important over there but what is more common plate something that everybody like to eats!!

  • Where can u get dok bok ki in america? Like just the little ball...things not the rest of the ingredients

  • you were so thin then. :D go martina!

  • I'm hungry!!!

  • @wjsthgml not everyone has the same taste buds therefore were not gonna add the same things and cook it the same way.

  • that is not right way to make떡볶이

  • Martina you look like a baby :D!!

  • You should try it with some type of sugar syprup. It's one of the magic ingridients the street vendors don't miss while cooking DBK...You can get this Korean type syrup in local grocery store. We call it 조청(Jo-cheong) or 물엿(Mool-Yeot) which literally means liquid type of 엿(Korean traditional candy).

  • But after re-watching this after the other vids I've seen, you've got some really good tips... some people aren't clear as to when to quit cooking the tteok or the fish cakes.

  • I also like honey in my sauce instead of sugar... one time I tried to tone down the spiciness by adding doenjang with the gochujang and while I kind of liked it, it didn't tone tone the spiciness at all. That's when I started looking online about different kinds of gochujang and I realized we got the "very hot" version at a level 4. Other than that, i've seen ramen added to tteokbokki... carrots. I tried bok choy once and if anything it adds to the spiciness for some reason?

  • Hey, i've watched a lot of videos on making tteokbokki... there seem to be many ways to make it? My fishcakes are usually frozen so I boil one sheet of it in the water beforehand... while you don't have to, I've seen most Korean women make a stock from a variety of things like fishcake... anchovies... kelp or seaweed. I found that I like a bit of this kind of stock but not to let the fishy ingredients boil too long so you get a bit of fishy flavor but not too much.

  • Im at school...and dying of HUNGER ! I think the whole lab could hear my stomach while i was watching this. x_x LMAO

  • try adding fish cake! it tastes better :)

  • u didn't say any of the korean names right but nbd..

  • Where would you get dok bok ki and fish cakes thingies in Canada? I wanna make it but don't know where I could find the stuff. Is it regular grocery stores? Someone please help me!!!

  • @DeathlyShySweetheart where are you from..I'm from Toronto.. and you can go to a grocery store in k-town and buy it.

  • NO sugar??

  • @MsHMChai nvm lmao

  • If u add ramen noodles to it it tastes good

  • Hi, I really love your videos, and I enjoy watching it :P.

But just to let you know, when your speaking konglish=korean+english.

two of the same letter means the,, what you call it.... ㄸ ㄲ ㅆ ㅉ ㅃ those sounds. So for example your title should be spelt, Ddok bo ki. xD nice video tho!!! Make more of them. PS Martina, why so sexy?

  • HOLY-CRAP-DISCOVERY!: I can move the subtitles :DDD I did NOT know that....that helps a lot!! ^O^

  • ughh i want it noww.....i wish i can just go outside and walk to a snack stand but i dont live in korea.....

  • @simonandmartina what cartoon was that skit cartoon part from?:o

  • I have a question (I hope someone can answer this for me!) If you're using the frozen tteukbokki, do you let it thaw before adding it in? Or no? D:

  • @crazyaznOo ALWAYS let your "main dish" thaw before adding it.

The "ice" that's left over on the ddukbokki will get into the soup, and it'll ruin the flavor with the excess water

  • @crazyaznOo if its frozen then you have to let it sit in warm water for a little bit :D

  • Soo this is the first ep!!

  • i want simon and martina to have a contest to see who can eat the most kimchi!!!!!!!!!! thumbs up sp they can see this

  • That is the coolest bag of shaped ddok~~

  • Should do one on Japjae.. it's really simple to do ^.^ and freaking awesome to eat...aii drulling just thinking about it ^.^

  • Uhm what can u use if u can't buy any red pepper paste? Thnx to the person who answer this! :)

  • Thanx! U should make another dish, keep it up guys! :)

  • im hungry for tteokbokki now...

  • sounds fuunny when she say DOK BOK KI

  • 7:55 HAHAHAHAHAHA ohhh man i had to pause until i stopped laughing.

also, do they sell those packets of tteokbokki things here in canada? :D

  • this reminds of really funny dubbed anime

  • It's so pretty! ( = ヮ = )৩

  • Looks pretty easy the way you explained it~ Cant wait to actually make it myself! XD

  • people who hate spicy food can survive in corea?xD

  • @DreamersKiller I do~ lol. But I have to check before I order any food if there's any pepper, hot red pepper paste/powder, horse radish, or mustard. All of my friends think I'm SUPER picky person!! haha

  • I tried this today, but sadly it was the only Korean dish that didn't sit well with me.It's the spicy and gelatinous texture combo.I really tried and wished I liked it but I am willing to try it again then maybe I will change my mind!

  • You don't have a fridge?

  • 떡뽁끠따 ㅋㅋㅋㅋ 오늘 여친만나서 순대에 떡뽂끠먹어야즹

  • I love Dokbokki. We have a Korean restaurant nearby and they sell Dokbokki.

I always wanted to make dokbokki at home but I went to MANY asian supermarkets here in Montreal and none of them sell the hot pepper paste .____.

  • @kawaiiikyou Épicerie Coréenne/Japonaise on Sherbrooke West in NDG sells it!

  • Comment removed

  • where do i find the fish cakes and the rice cakes and what does it say so i know??

  • @ToppNotch better go to a Korean store... because the rice cakes that Korea has are different than rice cakes in Japan or China. they're called Tteok (ot ttuck) and are very chewy and hard. The fish cake is called Uhmook (Odeng in Japanese) and they're pretty easy to find in Jap/or Korean store.

  • What would you compare the dok bok ki shapes to taste like... They look a bit like pasta?

  • @hanahere13 @hanahere13 not really. the rice cakes are very chewy and the dish is extremely spicy...

  • @sumomanga Hi. ^_^ I've read your question and I thought I could help.. Since I'm korean and I've ate Dok Bok Ki so many times. (:

    1. Yes you can eat Duk Bok Ki without the fish paste but traditionally, people eat Duk Bok Ki with fish paste. ^^

    2. I think it depends on the person because I don't think Dok Bok Ki is very spicy at all because I eat it almost everyday, but my cousin cannot eat one bite because she thinks its too spicy. Just put a little bit of spice and you'll be okay! ^^

  • hahah i love the shapes of the dukbokki! never seen them like that before!

  • At first, I didn't expect this video to be good. However, it has great detailed instructions and tips. It was also very cute and funny. Sometimes, I also add a spoonful of beef soup stock Dasheeda swaygogee which is a beef soup stock. This adds a little flavor, but usually also a little bit of msg.

  • Oh man, I miss Korean street food! I remember being able to get a little baggie filled with about 10-15 tteokbokki (the log shaped kind) and two of the deep fried yaki mandu (the long flat ones with clear noodles inside) for about 400 won (yes, 40 cents). Of course that was about 20 years ago. LOL! Good cooking video. I so wish I could find some of this in the States.

  • wow, the very first simonandmartina video...

  • hahahaah isearch a video for dok bo ki and i find you hahahahaahha i was like ahh it's u martina loool it was like i met on of my girls !! hahaha

  • Hey martina. Just wanted to let u know me and my friend love watching your videos. I live in t dot sometimes and my place is the koreatown up north that u visited. Cool stuff.

  • That isn't the original recipe, although it is a quicker way of buying it.

Here type in the name of this title in the search box "Korean Spicy Rice Cake Dukbokgi" and you'll see the original recipe.

  • Ohhhh... so that's what I ate at that korean restaurant, it sure was hot!! But tasty hot!! :D I also ate kimchi and I didn't know what was I eating... not a big fan of it...

  • Wow this is very helpful ^^ thank you! I've always wanted to try kimichi as well, maybe next time you could do a how to on it? Man that would be so cool!~

  • I always thought kimchi was some kind of meat but it's not huh?

  • Dok Bok Gi goes great with Kimbap and Odang XP
