Everyone has differing opinions though I'd take his opinion more than yours since he has had YEARS of experience and you've had hardly any and judging from your post, you have no taste.
The comments on this video sicken me. Anyone who speaks maliciously of another person's cancer is a sad excuse for a human being. I sit here on the 12th anniversary of my mother's death from cancer reading comments saying the cancer should have killed him. I wish they hadnt said 2 things. The 1st being how Red can get you anything but hope which is the only thing Andy Dufresne seems to have enough of. It undersells the dynamic between those two characters. The second that saying the ending in a lesser film would have been meh. That makes me feel ok he didnt like the ending but hes giving it a good wrap because he liked the movie as a whole. Honestly if I hadn't seen this movie already, Those comments would have probably turned me off from it

One of my favorite movies. "Get busy living, or get busy dying" . That is so true. Stephen King is one of the best writers. The movie had me glued to the screen. I just bought my own DVD for home use. Gosh! I miss these kinda stories!

had to check out this movie , viewing it for the (1st ) first time just last night ( Wednesday August 10, 2011 ) . I must say, for all its' positive critical acclaim ;
I was sadly disappointed ! I found the plot predictable , the pace rather slow, and the anticlimactic finale tedious . I agree that the actors did well, considering what limited script they had to work with .
They knew. Everybody else that year barely registered it. Other critics treated it like it was hardly worth noticing. But they knew how great it was. Just as everyone else would eventually come to know.

The comments on this video sicken me. Anyone who speaks maliciously of another person's cancer is a sad excuse for a human being. I sit here on the 12th anniversary of my mother's death from cancer reading comments saying the cancer should have killed him. If this is all coming from his comments about Dunn, I hope these people see the hypocrisy in wishing death upon him, in effect doing the same thing Ebert did, but in a much harsher fashion. And I'm not a prude nor a huge fan of ebert (though he is one of several critics whose opinions I generally see eye-to-eye with). I'm an atheist and I think anything is fair game to joke about -- even cancer -- so I'm not on some morality trip. All these people ranting about how his cancer needs to finish him off, obviously they've never had someone they love die of cancer, having their bodies wither away to nothing in the last days.

I think the fans of this horrible monster Roger Ebert are the ones who should "get a life'. It's over. When a longtime alcoholic (Ebert) blusters against drunk driving it is sort of like Fidel Castro complaining that Obama violates human rights. @Charlenefabulous I've seen the movies Ebert made with Russ Meyer. Cheers. While I didn't like them, they were meant as satire, if you took them to be smut, that's your loss I guess. Yeah they weren't succesful, that doesn't make his love and understanding of films any less evident. He writes about movies, it's what he does - if its a "bulshit" "fantasyworld" why are you watching it?

I wish they hadnt said 2 things. The 1st being how Red can get you anything but hope which is the only thing Andy Dufresne seems to have enough of. It undersells the dynamic between those two characters. The second that saying the ending in a lesser film would have been meh. That makes me feel ok he didnt like the ending but hes giving it a good wrap because he liked the movie as a whole. Honestly if I hadn't seen this movie already, Those comments would have probably turned me off from it

Wow, going back and reading some of the comments is interesting to say the least. I expected a bunch of fans praising the movie, but instead most of the comments are people snapping at each other or Ebert and/or Siskel bashing. It's so much negativity on a video about a movie that was all about hope that I would recommend the disabling of comments on this video permanently.

I heard so many positive reviews about " The Shawshank Redemption " ; I finally
had to check out this movie , viewing it for the (1st ) first time just last night ( Wednesday August 10, 2011 ) . I must say, for all its' positive critical acclaim ;
I was sadly disappointed ! I found the plot predictable , the pace rather slow, and the anticlimactic finale tedious . I agree that the actors did well, considering what limited script they had to work with .
I give this movie a : C+
