This is what pisses me off. First of all, people are getting mad at American Airlines for cancelled flights. Yes, I know that it is upseting but they are only doing this for the passengers safety. If those inspections were not to get through, there could of been a huge disaster. Personal opinion.
and im getting mad at them for just delayed flights! I had to stay at SFO for 3 hours on my way back to chicago only because of snow on the ground! also i had to switch planes because the md 80 i was about to fly on had a cracked windshield! I cant beileve they did not notice that before it went out onto the tarmac! what a cheap airline!!!
If something is not done about these carriers and their lack of maintenance there will be another crash, like the one at Alaska Airlines,(due to no grease on a jackscrew).
What I want to know is why AA is still using MD80's, Boeing took over McDonnell Douglas and put them out of commission, these planes are about 20+ years old each. They need new jets, if they saved the money that they give themselves in bonuses for about 5 years they would have had them by now.
American airlines has 272 MD80's and it is in the process of bringing these out of its fleet in exchange for 737-800's, but 737-800's cost $50-$85million EACH. It takes time to make so much money and be able to replace planes that are the heart of domestic flights for American Airlines.
because the md80s a strong structure and a/a owns most of them. our screwjacks are well greased and have always been even before the alaska air crash. thats why they use a/a maint. schedule now. everybodys an expert but doesn't know jack unless your in a/c maint.
Under the Bush administration, the FAA began "a creep away from their rigorous oversight of maintenance," according to Representative James L. Oberstar of Minnesota and the chairman of the House committee that has pushed the issue.
That arrangement was "coddling the airlines," he added, which eased the burden on the FAA, with its inspectors spending more time on paperwork than on airplanes.
Republicans want the marketplace to oversee itself. This is the result.
if the taxpayers are going to be bailing out these companies financially every year in order to make sure that they don't take shortcuts and jeopardize lives. they should at least be held accointable about STILL taking shortcuts. the public should be outraged!
American Airlines puts money into management's pocket but not into maintenance. I read that the faulty wiring could have caused a fuel tank explosion similar to the one on Flight TWA 800. American has a lot of explaining to do to the American public and other passengers who thought they were flying safe aircraft. I think we should just put a big top over AA in Dallas and let them run a circus. People could have died and AA knew it.
Excuse me, dumb ass--they didn't inspect until the FAA audit. If the FAA didn't step in, AA wouldn't have fixed the wiring which should have been fixed during routine maintenance. I guess you haven't read about the empty oxygen tanks, faulty defibrillators and the FA who announced to the public last week that she and the passengers were never safe on AA aircraft. I have firsthand experience with AA beyond just flying with them. Believe me the agenda for AA is not concern for its passengers.
What is really sad is I read that the executives are supposed to get big bonuses this month. No money for maintenance, yet money for exec bonuses. There was a FA who exposed them at an award's meeting for safety issues. There is a youtube on it. I think she was on FOX news, see if you can find it.
F U Buddy.. we do maint. @ a/a. the wiring problem was never a safety issue. the issue was that the wires were not tied exactly 1" apart. we had a/c's that were cleared at 1 station than grounded again because the next faa fag didn't agree with the other faa fag from the first station. faa got caught sleeping with swa then turned on a/a and others who use md 80s 88s and 90s. faa allowed swa to fly the 737s with the sunroof open and with unapproved parts.
The american Airlines Chicago-Mexico City flight in which I was with my parents in 2006 was cancelled whith all aboard and the engines turned on because of two electric blak outs, complete energy was disconnected. Some tech team came up to handle some hidden cables inside the pilote's cab for 60 minutes, passengers inside the jet at the airport. The American Airlines still wanted to put the aircraft to start on the electricity, air conditioner and take us to fly. It's a report but not a new.
Wow, Southwest didn't check for cracks? Dang... and after Aloha airlines flight 243 you'd think that would be top priority!
