  • so all the people who listen to this song i like it, i respect you, and yet there are those fags who listen to that meaningless crap called pop, well this is fuckin music

  • Comment removed

  • its too deep. way to deep. kills me listening to it, just because of what this song is about, or rather, what i perceive it to be about

  • "Ignorant fibbers in the congregation"? Really? Should have ended with the quite moving part one. I teach writing at the college level, and I can tell you, I would never accept such tripe from my students. I mean, "trials and tribulations." Can one get more cliche? Love Tool; hate 80% of this album.

  • @rocinante821 what the fuck is wrong with you

  • @rocinante821 He got the lyrics wrong. The real one's can be found on Toolshed(dot)down(dot)net. Obviously, replace the (dots)'s with actual fullstops :)

  • Awesome! I even had seizures on the floor watching this (complex partial, I wasn't on the floor) in 2006 when I went in Kansas City! I L O V E T O O L !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @DavidBradfield that made me laugh xD.

  • @mayopubesandwich So true

  • Don't call people retards

  • MJK's mother was religious (you just have to listen to his music to know he is not). That being said, pt 1 and 2 are INCREDIBLE homages to his mother and her faith

  • @nunya1951 Exactly right this must have been hard 4 Maynerd 2 write considering his own view on religion.

  • death is an extremely peacful experience. there comes a point when the pain goes away the fear goes away. it happens real fast at certain point. for me it was the time to get from kent to harborview. i remember going in the double doors. than just black. woke up hours later i suppose. it was amazing addictive if you will.

  • It's understandable that MJK would be angry for his mother but I don't see the sense in attacking the higher powers that give us life in the first place. Faith can be a hard pill to swallow but is'nt that the whole point of faith? Sadness, guilt, anger & acceptance are the 4 motions which all people will go through when they loose a loved one but faith is the one thing which carries us all through it ! There is no hate & anger in love but we are only human after all! Songs about acceptance mabye?

  • @whitelight7733 "Who are you to wave your finger..?"

  • @INDUSTRIAL3X Just another human!

  • @INDUSTRIAL3X hehehe

  • @whitelight7733 You don't need faith. You need acceptance and time. Faith is just an act of self confidence, and it's never worked for me. Faith can be misguided and certainly can't be fully proved. All we have is our emotions, memories and thoughts and that is what we should fully believe in. Once you accept yourself and the others in your life, you become your own higher power and nothing can take that away even if you die. You can perserve yourself through memories or actions of others.

  • @srosko I agree, Faith can't be fully proven as Faith=Belief without evedince, but on the contray ain't that the corner stone as to why people choose to have faith? Just like the song by Clannad-"something to believe in!". It helps the human condition to get through times of grief. Time is a good healer for mourners but it's just one of the many elements that weave through the motions of the process. To remember, think & feel are only some gifts which life gives us but to die, well who knows??

  • WTF whos Marie....and where are her wings????

  • @toolygirl55 maynards mom...she has em now :)

  • Tool = My Favorite Band Ever

  • I absolutely love 10000 days. i can't see why people should think a band should stay in one place throughout their career. This album was the perfect move forward the way I see it. "Wings for marie 1 and 2" were the last songs from the album I gave much attention, simply because they didn't jump at me right away - yet I find myself getting so moved by the lyrics everytime I hear them

  • can´t describe the patient that i feel when hear Tool, here´s where i belong in a dark night in the universe when everibody is so quiet

  • TOOL didn't sell out on nada. Great album. F them idiots!!

  • masterpiece

  • excellent song by an excellent band hope they tour england soon

  • Please tell me I'm not the only one who thought he was saying "my eyes, my M&Ms" instead of evidence for like a year.

  • i know im the only one who think this but this is my favourite album of thiers and i have been a fan since opiate

  • Well.... I never knew it was such a personal tribute, it makes perfect sense, I loved watching this ...really well made..The Art IS hypnotic! Kickass!

  • Dethklok just got owned.

  • I tear up a little every time I hear "tell them their pillar of faith has accended" and from then on I'm holding back Niagara Falls. Possibly the most powerful song I've ever heard.

  • @lich1313 i am obsessed with tool and i have totally admitted to people that do not understand them that they have made me cry, only cause maynards lyrics are unbelievable and moving. Listen to the song The Humbling River by him (puscifer) thats a moving song

  • @lich1313 yeah, well, imagine if judith heard it

  • what is this light and wave stuff? YOU WERE THE LIGHT AND THE WAY, THEY WILL ONLY READ ABOUT

  • JEEEBUUS!!!!

BURDEN OF PROOF TOSSED UPON UNBELIEVERS

  • @alexburm i mean, its not like his voice is unclear or anything

  • Terrifying and beautiful at the same time

    this song will never die

  • this song and album are amazing just like any other TOOL song and album, its not possible to say which one is the best, they are just very different about style and thematics. They represent the evolution of the band in time and of course they are influenced by the time they made it.

  • people just say tool sold out because of the song "the pot." I don't blame them for releasing it though i mean everyone was on their case all the time for not having a "#1" and i guess it just bothered them to the point where they had to release more of a "main stream" type song. Because im sure they all sat down at one point and said hey were good an we could make a #1 in our sleep, so lets do it. I went to see them in 2006 and they refused to play the pot. Im guessing for that reason exactly

  • @OSTOPPLAYINGWITHYOUR i love the pot, second favorite song by them

  • amazing! One of my favorites but I can say that about all of them!

  • 2:23-2:58.......amazing.....one of my favorite tool songs

  • The song gives me the shivers every time I hear it... So beautiful...

  • damn, with tears in my eyes..what a fuckin song

  • this is my favorite tool album it is so awesome especially vicarious and rosetta stoned

  • Thanks God for this song.

  • @Enemyofreality84 Yeah, thank Zeus.

  • @parade lol yeah.

  • has any one else noticed the screen moving when u look at it long enough?

  • iI think it's cool that Maynard my hate god with every thing he has/dosent believe in god...but he made this for his mother and hope she got what she wanted...

  • @ozzy91562 He still belive in a stronger power than ours, not God, god is a things humanity created to explain inexplcable things... there's no budda, God, Satan.

But there's a stronger power, no doubt.

  • science bless tool!

  • omfg i actually clicked accidentally 'dislike'. i'm so sorry. i love this song and Tool. can I undo this 'unlike' somehow? :cries:

  • @aspiniou and your the only one to dislike haha

  • Anyone else get goosebumps at the 4:40 point onwards?

  • This and right in two, my favourites on the album. Love them!

  • i only pray heaven knows when to lift you out, 10000 days in the fire is long enough, your going home. your the only one who can hold your head up high, shake your fist at the gates saying, "I HAVE COME HOME NOW!" fetch me the spirit, the son, and the father, tell them their pillar of faith has ascended, its time now, MY TIME NOW. GIVE ME MY, GIVE ME MY WINGS!

    Chills

  • @bigdaddytorr1

This song is about his mom who was very sick for 27 years before she died which is 9855 days.. Hence 10,000 days in the fire is long enough, you're going home. Im sure that most tool fans know that but i felt like commenting anyway.

  • @bigdaddytorr1 To bad he is talking about his mom in a wheel chair. Kinda takes the power out 4me. I kinda feel bad for Maynerd and worse 4 his mom. She has so much faith and he has none. This must have been one of his most difficult songs 2 write about4 him

  • @bigdaddytorr1 Me too. <3

  • @bigdaddytorr1 I'm feelin it !

  • that bass line is euphoric

  • Completely amazing song!

  • Tool has never made a bad song

  • Perfection!

  • 10 k days and Lateralus are in my opinion two most spiritual and mistical albums Tool has ever recorded. Adam Jones's guitar is just insane and Maynard's voice is pure awesomeness. Anyone who says that Tool sucks or they sold out is just crippled on mind o.o

  • Maybe faith is believing that there are worse things in life than dying -- that dying is only hard on those left behind. You don't HAVE a soul -- you ARE a soul. You HAVE a body. Perhaps faith lies in trusting that, even though your body dies, your soul lives on.

  • @jesuischa damn...that was deap 0.o...but i would have to agree...

  • hypethatically understated imaginated divine set of lyrics and song

  • Alot of these lyrics are wrong. Great stuff otherwise though

  • of course that's in regards to 1tiegurr

  • This song is amazing.. i get chills every time i listen to it.

  • wings for marie are about his mothers death...the saddest song I have ever heard..

  • yeah Judith from a Perfect Circle is a song i can't help to cry on. It also is about his mom dying, and though she had undying faith in god, he still did that to her, he didn't save her. :[ Maynard has been through alot man.

  • @BANDJAZZY This song isnt about his mom dying though.

  • ?? i don't mean to sound ignorant so what is it about.....

i figured since his moms name is judith marie it had to do with her death...especially the way i interpreted the lyrics :] please do inform me though

  • @BANDJAZZY This song, more or less, is like an apology. Him telling her that although it took him this long, he finally understands why she was so faithful. If you take a look at all of Tool's albums as a whole, you'll see how this one is their "realization" album in some way.

  • thank you for the insight :]

  • @BANDJAZZY Pleaseures all on this side of the monitor, lol.

  • yeah im really in to to tool, im only 17 so im not all knowledgeable about them. But they have brought a lot of joy, and true meaning of good music to my 17 years of life, so i enjoy when im educated on such a great band.

  • @BANDJAZZY Any questions you have sweetheart, I'm pretty sure I can answer for you. I've spent ALOT of time researching Tools music.

  • dude, dont take this the wrong way but, the fact this his mom had alot of faith and still died.... is a fact of life. you sound accusational over the fact that his mom went through something EVERYONE goes through at some point. we have no idea of what happened to her.... "energy" afterwards though and thats the whole exestential point of this music in my humble opinion. questioning WHILE moving on.

  • huh? im was just stating what the song was about, so what are you saying???

  • Its called music and unlike most shit and i do mean shit out there, this is very well put, and just because it does happen to everyone in some point in time does not mean it is meaning less. Its his feelings towards it and has the guts to express them unlike most punks out there who think they are tough to act like its nothing that there parents died. But of course ya must be cool cause ya made sure to mention that you are drunk above so yeah. your awesome and dont feel feelings. punk

  • dude, you obviously misunderstood what i was saying. I was responding to bandjazzy when he said "she loved god but she still died, he still did that to her". i might be a bit callous but not unfeeling. i was simply trying to state that if god saved everyone from death who was faithful. people would be over 1000 years old. that would also be undeniable proof which takes away from faith. its a paradox. dont hate the sky for being blue

  • also. next time you decide to call someone a punk over the internet... especially youtube. look up the word hypocrit

  • for one if its obvious that i miss understood you why would you get bent out of shape about it, two just wondering whats hypocritical about my comment. what i got from your comments was that you were dissing the music, callin him a cry baby for singing about something meaning full. Found the other comment like sry if i miss typed im drunk was kind out there cause what most punks do, talk about bein drunk. sry if a miss understood you but i do think you pull the hypocrit thing out of your ass.

  • course right now i'm mispelling like crazy cause i'm drunk as hell but /shrug what do i know

  • what are all of tool's albums?

  • opiate, undertow, aenima, lateralus, 10,000 days are the main albums

all totally bad ass, by the way

  • i swear i could almost shed a tear listenin to this song, especially that ending.

  • i seriously cant see how Ænima, or Lateralus is any better than 10,000 Days, apart from the fact that the song got a bit longer, it isnt any better, and obviously any worse, i just cant pick what i like better, and i cant see how other people can

  • i never realized that at 4:33 to about 4:36 you can hear laughing in the back ground

  • think its a trippy echo of the word "eye" (which maynard sings)

  • Omg its true, but i think is kind of a rebounding sound and not a laugh.

  • lol meth is my thing bro

  • you're right man!

  • oh yeah and no disrespect but its you are the light and the way*

  • this is probaly my 4th favorite Tool album and thats not a dis that just shows how good Tool is, and any Tool fan who thinks this album is weak or they sold out is retarted!

  • i know dude, how could ANYBODY say that TOOL ever sold out?

  • people who thought that Tool was going to be a heavey metal band forever

  • thank god they didnt huh? otherwise maynard might be sporting a side fringe by now lol

  • @marleyman0 apparently a boy wearing vans, 501's and a dope Beastie tee.

  • @AtomchildMusic Great reply!

  • @AtomchildMusic Haha! Great reply!

  • @marleyman0

I met a boy, wearing Van 501's in a dope, beastie-T, nipple ring and new tatoos... I think he said that Tool sold out ;)

  • @Jaymzmiller yeah... me too, told me the same thing in between sips of coke.

  • @canesrule96 agreed. dude. this album is amazing. and that goes for all of them.

  • @canesrule96 what about there EP?

  • @canesrule96 the simply broadened their horizons.

  • @canesrule96 anyone who thinks RETARTED is spelled that way is RETARDED XD

  • @canesrule96 it's retarded. You RAtard. Kidding, love Tool.

  • the picture moved. trippy

  • yeah I got scared to death when I noticed it

  • wow Mcbrinkmiester thats really cool of you to say "why respect the opinion of a child" i happen to be 16 and as far as i know i am a human being just like youreselfe who diservs respect so thats why and no im not entering the religeouse debate its not my place to say anything but i was reading it and thought that that comment was rather uncalled for

  • you do realize that argument is a month old?

  • whoa its true, it starts to work at like 2:30 of this video

  • i heard that if you play pt 1 and pt 2 together, they're supposed to overlap perfectly. i'm trying it right now

  • That is true. When they play it live, they play both straight through back to back. It sounds perfect

  • fuck this song is awesome

  • excellent song.

  • does anyone notice that he is saying wave instead of way

  • he typed wave but that makes no sence what so ever.. not that much of what he says does but what ever

i think its supposed to be way cause that makes so much more sence

  • "set as I am in my ways and my arrogance, burning all through tossed upon non-believers", Maynard has clearly turned a new page in what he believes in..

  • But I can't explain it all in a youtube comment.. If you could give me a chance to explain, that would be awesome.

Give me a comment on my profile, if you have any questions you'd like to ask.. I'd love to explain the actions of certain christians who would have chased you away from christianity. And I'd love to explain things like why people are going to hell, and why bad things happen in the world.. I myself have been trying to figure this out, and refused to talk to God until I had answers

  • Hey guys..

I was just listening to this and reading the lyrics for the first time, and it makes me really sad.. I'm a christian.. But not the kind who will shovel shit down your throat.. What makes me sad, is that there are so many pricks out there that call themselves christians, and because of those pricks, people are punishing God, and it's sad because God loves everyone dearly. I know this will sound strange when there is hell, and countless horrible things in the world..

  • I understand your intentions. But I hate to tell you that christianity makes no sense. I could go on all day. Lets start with the fact that the bible gives three different accounts of the crucifixion. As well as 2 totally separate timelines for jesus's life, that are roughly 150 years apart. Or that the old testament is completetly contradictory to the new one. And don't tell me it's because god was trying to show us something with it. I promise you have no idea what happens when you die.

  • Hmmm.. The thing is man, that there are actually answers for those questions. This is one of the things used by the devil and demons against God (Telling people that they have the answer and they don't need to ask). There are actually four accounts of crucifixion, one in Mathew, Mark, Luke, and John. And that's because those four books, are all the story of Jesus from four different people/perspectives. So it wasn't one person writing some story, it was four different people, who followed Jesus.

  • (Sorry, ran out of space). So in a court of law, the story of Jesus would actually hold up, because there are four different accounts, four different people seeing the same person do the same things. Those four books are just things that those four particular people witnessed for themselves. As for the 150 years apart, I've never heard that before, and would be interested reading up about it. And for the old testament contridicting the new one, there are some things that don't apply in the new

  • Yes there are the four different accounts of his disciples. We agree there, the problem is their stories don't match. As for the 150 years apart, One acount says he lived during the time of Pilot, while the other says he lived in the time of Horaditus(Forgive me if that's spelled wrong) who lived 150 after Pilot. So let's also go over the old testament. It's arguably one of the most immoral books in religion. "Stoning your children to death for being rebellious" is never moral unless of

  • world, because it doesn't happen anymore. In the books of mathew mark luke and john, Jesus mentions things from the old testament alot, in fact he used verses from the old testament to verbally combat the devil, (argueing with the devil would be pointless) because the bible is the word of God, with which Satan cannot argue. But it's a broad subject, if you have any specific contridictions I'd be glad to find out for you.

Do you have msn or something? It'd be alot easier to talk on.

  • you lived in Old testament times... If he was a loving God I don't think he would condone that type of behavior. There is no point in history when that should ever be considered moral. Or perhaps Joshua telling his army to go and kill all the men of Cannan and take all the women for their pleasure i.e. rape them is what a moral god would do. If you want to believe in a christian god who can't get his story straight, please just understand that he is a sadistic one.

  • Sweet dude, I'm gonna do some research and ask around about this stuff. I'll tell you what I find later. (The stoning, the Horaditus(?) and Pilot times, and Joshua)

  • Hey man, I've been looking into Joshua, can't find anything about rape, I've googled all sorts of things (without the word rape), mind showing me where you found this? And same with the pilot and horoditus(?) times, can't find anything about that either.

  • ummm dont forget how the kings of england rewrote the bible as they saw fit.

  • mind showing me where you found that?

  • actually it was the council of Nicea. so the above comment by xwrongwayx is incorrect. but then again, the bible (protestant version, not the catholic version) has been written and rewritten so many times its unreal.

ANYwho, it doesn't really matter. what you have faith in is what you have faith in. as long as your hypocrisy doesn't smother it, its all good. and I think that's in the message of this song too.

  • dude, when they finally wrote the gospels the four individuals were in they're 60's or something, of course they're gonna get some things a bit off! give them credit for getting some of it right!

  • That's the point! If this was the WORD OF GOD!!! then it couldn't be subject to mans imperfection. That would defeat the whole point of making it the word of GOD!

  • whether or not, it was made by Him, or inspired by Him, doesn't really matter in the end! it still contains intensely usable wisdom which can be used in daily life even today.

If its usable then it isn't at fault!

    "love thy enemy"

    "forgive/forget"

    "love"

    "peace"

if it was fully inspired by man then wouldn't it say what man wants to hear?

instead of something that contrasts our very nature?

it's psychologically, counter-active to our very nature!

if we wrote it fully it wouldn't be!

  • love, peace, forget and forgive were by no means inspired by god you fool, if they were then how would they have existed before christianity? and forget is a pretty poor example of 'intensely usable wisdom' (a phrase i assume simply means usable wisdom). How is peace or loving contradictory to our nature, or forgetting?(face it 'forget' was a shit choice of word). forgiveness has also always been demonstrated by humans. What would it say if it was what man wanted to hear?

  • it is still wisdom! who cares if it existed before, its like you complaining about two text books saying the same thing! its pointless!

You can't seriously tell me a grudge is healthy can you? if you forgive your enemy, and forget what he has done to you, then there is no more conflict (at least from your point of view!)

as far as contridictive? it is way easier to hate then it is to love! examples: War, discrimination, segregation, genecide, the first using of atomic technology was a bomb!

  • you'll find an invalid point located in the first sentence of this post. The last sentence is insidious and stupid, you're welcome to be a natural hater but humans naturally ostracise your kind because all you do is impede the loving way we have evolved, the co operative method we employ to gain the advantages of specialist assistance and protection. and to be honest this whole post does nothing to justify saying it is the word of god.

  • have I mentioned G-d in the last couple of posts? No! That conversation ended a while ago! I can only imagine you are saying that because you find me to be a close minded fanatic, when really you aren't exactly respecting the idea of someone having an opposing opinion!

and after reading your last comment...

    How am I the fool?

  • 'the fool'? who said there was one?, maybe we both are foolish, i certainly feel it for even typing back to you because so little of what you say actually answers what i argue. and yes this is still about god, we haven't just left that as inconclusive we simply deviated for a moment on some ridiculous branching topic. Sorry if this pointless exercise strains your attention capabilities.

  • "love, peace, forget and forgive were by no means inspired by god you fool"

you said that, and I didn't even start the conversation! Religious logic? What the fuck does that mean??

I tried to stop that conversation a while ago, but you keep bringing it up! Why?

its not "religious logic"! Respect is earned, but you have done little to gain mine! All you have done is attack after attack after attack!

you are a child because you have not admitted that you are at fault!

you act like a 16 year old!

  • well i am 16. Why do you presume i am older?, some more religious logic? haha i used that phrase just to point out your lack of respect for me (very hurtful) is as pointless and unjustified as the whole argument. We've gone so far off topic i cant be bothered, i think im now replying to a reply to a reply that was midway through the argument, this is just gonna branch out and we're not gonna end it, so yes i would argue we should stop right now.

  • I don't, I simply realized that you were acting in the same manner that I would at that age in an argument! Also you keep bringing up a topic that I had with another guy and you stepped in and called me a fool! So really you act young! That was not your argument to have! We have not gone off topic, that was someone else's topic and we started another one. you simply wanted to have THAT argument. I will stop seeing as the argument was with someone else, it really is pointless to have it with you!

  • plus for the past few posts, you've been arguing about the argument!

  • this is the comment that i was talking about.

  • it would say "do what you want", or, "everything's just fine!" from what I have seen in humanity, we don't exactly say, "evolve, and be brotherly to everything around you!"

    it's in our nature to:

    fear what we don't understand

    Hate what we fear

    kill what we hate!

if it weren't for any kind of direction from anything

we would have died out long ago!

  • also it's very impolite to call someone you don't know a "fool".

  • did you have to post so much?, look i'm not gonna read ro reply except for this because all i can see is a few misspelt words and an invalid point. But i still stand by your god whichever one it is being irrelevant.

  • wow, you won't even read the counter argument? That is rude!

    invalid point? where?

also what did you mean by "ro"?

  • probably 'or'. I have a sneaky suspicion you're gonna mention my comment on your misspelling, feel free i dont have the time to listen to you any more. And that 'fear what we dont understand...' is bullcrap, they are a chain of qualities more commonly exhibited by faithful mindless fanaticals than logical people, men and women who aren't actually blind to things like cosmic probabilities or the dangers of ignorance(referencing the quote, not religion before you babble)

  • wow, you are really annoying!

If you call someone a fool, you better expect a conflict! its a common human reaction! and you still haven't apologized, which means I have no reason to respect your opinion!

why respect the opinion of a child?

  • haha, religious logic there, assuming that someone who calls you a fool and doesn't apologise must be a child and unworthy of respect.

  • burdon of proof tossed upon non believers* but close and yours is pretty deep anyone. Actually pretty fuckin nice :D i prefer burning all through. Assif he's in hell burning amongst non believers whilst his mother was his light. but yeh gj on the song, lyrics and psychadelic image remix mate :)

  • and your lyrics are way off dude

  • aw.. poor baby. Not happy with my video??

  • all i'm saying is you're an idiot with no artistic taste/hearing. that's all. don't cry.

  • haha shut the fuck up man with your bullshit baby talk

  • @sinzorak i've watched two of these now. your lyrics seem to be more correct. either way. they are just amazing. tool is simply the best..
