  • 5 people gave into peer pressure in high school.

  • beautiful indeed !

  • fuckin' beautiful

  • Great rock drummer! Second only to John Bonham in my opinion.

  • @steptorand Neil can do things Bonzo could only dream of.

  • @TheExiledTexan Uhh, no. I love Neil and I am a drummer for many years, I practice Rush and Zep routinely. Bonzo is tied with Neil talent wise. There is Nothing Neil does that Bonzo couldn't have done in his prime. I think Bonzo had a faster left hand than Neil too.

    Check Moby Dick from 1970.

  • @godbluffvdgg

If you are going to compare drummers you have to consider the æsthetics with the music. Is the drummer just a virtuoso, or is he/she adding significantly to the song.

Bonzo was truely a master shaping zep songs. I would say that Peart was just as good, but some could get fatigued form listing.

Phill Collins was a master as well in some ways better than the other two by shaping the music Genesis made. Though many marginalize him because of his love of popular music.

  • My God he is a GIANT on the drums.

  • Thanks for posting this. A rare view of a master at work. This is shot when Neil is in his later years. He has 30 years of playing under his belt and he is still a monster player. A special thanks to Neil for the words of wisdom so prevalent in your written masterpieces e.g. fountains of lamenth, hemispheres, Cygnus X-1, A farewell to kings, Cinderella Man, 2112, Natural Science, and last but not least Subdivisions. Merry holidays Rush Heads and may Rush receive the long overdue accolades.

  • @godbluffvdgg

    Long live rush

  • @The61769 Indeed my friend, indeed.

  • No one even close

  • AWESOME !

  • I am not into drums, but I can see why so many people really admire this guys talent..I love the song..first heard it when I was 16...where did my youth go?..Time is the fire in which we burn.

  • Fffffffffffffffffuuuuuuuuuuuckkkkkkkkkkkkk!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • NEIL PEART is the First HUMAN METRONOME

  • 4 people don't understand about a classic rock song when they hear it

  • Part man, part drum machine, he is NEIL PEART

  • BEAST..........

  • Just WOW ! What an amazing artist. My friends always give me this John Bonham stuff (not that he was not great in his own right.) But Neil takes home the prize !!!

  • Neil = GOD

  • This is great! A chance to really see Neil play. I learned a lot from this guy.

  • This is not "just drums"

  • I listened to this song while taking off in a jet, and as I looked down upon the lights of LA and heard this music, I realized that I was truly alive.

  • @JosephHuntington weird, I had almost that same experience, but it was a smaller airport and a four-seat plane.

  • 5:41 So endeth the lesson.

  • It would be a sin for him not to play drums.

  • Keith Moon was THE best drummer ever.

Who else could play as well as he did while stoned out of his gourd?

  • greatest drummer in the world right there. grande neil!

  • @aprofessionalhater LOL!! best drummer ever? u mean he is your favorite drummer. cool.. best? that is comical

  • @delweine yup, best drummer ever

  • @delweine Best drummer, best guitarist etc....is subjective to us all but the thing about Neil Peart is that so many other performers will say he's the greatest and he has been voted the greatest countless of times on many a list. I also have my faves, Neil is definitely on top of my top 3 list.

  • 00:30 to 00:42 is one of my fave rhythms of all time.

  • that part was the reason I fell in love with this song

  • One of my all time favorite Rush songs. Never have heard it live and CERTAINLY have never seen Dr. Neil play it live. New found level of respect for his talent. Thanks to whoever posted this. Nearly note for note from the studio version. AmAZING!

  • 0:01 actually, I DO remember this from Signals!

  • Neil's drumming in this song has always fascinated me.

It's not particularly complex, but I love how each verse has a slightly variation to the beat...changing up the hi-hat pattern and the ride cymbal patterns, etc.

It's masterfully composed...every single stroke is perfection. Neil is a musical genius.

  • Consistent excellence is what comes to mind for me. The licks are not magical, just amazing. I'd rather listen than watch. Hit replay and listen :-)

  • anyone who has ever played drums in their life ,novice or pro, do you guys have any idea what this guy is doing and how tough that is?The licks are not that tough but my GOD the timing!!!

    Appreciate your local drummer please!

  • i am in awe of the stamina this guy has... it's easy to recognize that his ability is a step above... he's working on another level...

  • i am in awe of the stamina this guy has... it's easy to recognize that his ability is a step above... he's working on another level...

  • i dont like this kit, too low sound haha XD

  • It's a fuckin' travesty that they aren't in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame yet, due to the politics involved!!

  • @71dupuis Transvestite is the Hall itself..its the least rocking thing in history

  • With most bands, some songs are good, some songs are shit.

With Rush, every song is amazing. Name one bad Rush song. I dare you. It's impossible.

  • @BLModder2010 I think I'm goin' bald? The only one I could think of and I am a Rush freak.

  • @godbluffvdgg if that's the only one you could think of, at least you thought of a great one.

  • Neil Peart is the best!!!!!!

  • Peart, Moon and Bonham. The Holy Drum Trinity.

  • While Neil is the best living drummer, Keith Moon is the best, ever. And I don't have to play shit to prove it, ddbarnes. Goob.

  • @TheRealSyFyGuy the "best" drummer doesn't exist and never will.

  • @julianisdope Now you're just being stubborn. TO ME. There, better? Goob. Name someone better. Go on... No, didn't think so. Buh bye.

  • @TheRealSyFyGuy I don't worry about stupid kid shit like who is "better". Everyone brings something unique to the table. He may be the best to you but that doesn't mean he is the best because he isn't......no one is.

  • @julianisdope You must be a teenager. Your omnipotence has overwhelmed me, and I bow to your wisdom, oh swami. Goob. Yes, if you listened to all the drummers of the world there indeed would be a BEST one. It's a simple fact that there are some goo, and some bad, at anything. Life doesn't give out a sticker for participating. There are winners, and losers. Come back when you have a few actual miles under your belt. Buh bye.

  • @TheRealSyFyGuy -_- Why do you treat music like a competition? Fine i know there is zero way to get through your ignorance so i am going to stop replying after this. I've been playing for 14 years and make a living off music/drumming so whatever you say i know that i have "miles under my belt". The funny thing is if there was a "best" drummer in the world it sure as hell wouldn't be keith moon(nothing against him). So please just fuck off and go educate yourself a little. Fucking idiot

  • @julianisdope No call for vulgarity. I started playing the drums in the VERY early 70's. I don't make it a competition, and it doesn't have to be to have a best of. You are the one who needs an education. In manners, as well. And I don't care who you would pick, I was speaking for me, so go sit on a duck you ignorant d-bag.

  • @julianisdope Thats what you gotta tell to yourself....It rocks..great attitude fella

  • Neil Peart = (GOD)²

  • Canada's biggest contribution to Rock and Roll!!! Pure talent and perfection.....

  • I don't give a shit what anyone says, he's the best fucking drummer of all time. You don't think so??? Well you try playing what he does.

  • he looks sick

  • Way cool! Thanks for the up!

  • Bout TIME!!!!!

  • He puts so much emotion in the drumming and its really awesome :)

  • Excellent ! Enjoyed this, the music really flowed back in those albums after Hemispheres.

  • at 0:30 best drumming i have ever heard

  • I'm sorry guys but you need to pull your head out of his arse and look at some other drummers. This is so very very boring.

  • @black1swan2green3 like who?

  • @black1swan2green3

I can think of a lot of words to describe this, but "boring" is not one of them.

  • Working the Marcus Fenix/Tom Hanks look

  • did you filme this ????

  • i need to go change my underware

    unbelievable!

  • FROM 0:30 SECONDS OF VIDEO SEE WHAT A HUMAN-BEING OF HIGH INTELLECT IS CAPABLE OF DOING.

  • Neil is magnificent. "We're Not Worthy!"..

  • AOS 0:30 SEGUNDOS DO VÍDEO VEMOS O QUE UM SER-HUMANO DE INTELECTO ELEVADO É CAPAZ DE FAZER.

  • He has more drum pieces and cymbals than i have hair

  • And I Just saw a best rock drummers of all time list that had the drummer from slipknot as number one. Obviously those butt nuts have never seen or heard of Neil Peart.

  • Simply amazing...

P.S. To the three people with broken mice - send me your address, I'll give you a free one.

  • What a performance. Don't know where he gets his energy from. Its tough for a guy half his age to pull that off (and then continue the 3+ hour long show).

  • He is Fucking COOL!!

  • It's one thing to be able to play this song. It's a whole other thing to be able to play it like Neil does. Perfect technique...you could have recorded that right there and threw it on an album.

  • Geddy's voice, Neil's awesome drumming, and Alex's soaring guitar always make rush enjoyable to watch, like this video.

  • everytime someones comes to you and say this and that drummer is better than neil..show him this one..

notice in the start of the tune he used the highhat and does otherthings while keeping it going..

  • Listening to Rush is one thing, but to see them live is something else entirely. LONG LIVE RUSH, & Neil Peart :)

  • saw these guy at the gorge in washington 7/2/11 awsome show

  • @ mpesta > I have to agree w/ you,Subdivisions IS a masterpiece, one of my favorite songs of all time!! It seems that in this song Neil's drumming takes center- stage,it's as if he 'makes' the song, maybe the drum-line came to him in a dream or some sort of altered state! I'm a drummer myself, and every time I hear him play I get really, really humbled, but he also makes me want to practice even harder & longer - to me he's an inspiration and the most creative drummer of all time..........

  • 0:30....0:40 absoluto controle sobre o instrumento.

  • old bastard doesnt even break a sweat:)

  • Neil Peart da aula na bateria ele é foda

  • muito bom

  • Those 3 that disliked? Glad they have no brain... the Ultimate Master in drumming.. an innate knowledge of music and rhythm, plus the talent to make each and every stroke mean something, yeah. Beating cancer down to the cells on top of that.. there will never be another like him.. ROCK ON NEIL!!

  • My favorite song in the world.

  • Always enjoyable to watch Neil at work. Curious to know the source of this video -- is it part of a series or a DVD? I'd love to see similar videos of other Rush songs.

  • @mjkobb

I think it is Rush in Rio or R30 they have songs that have alternate views and this is the drum view obviously.

  • @fastnfurious29 Ah, multi-angle disc. Nice. I will have to check that out. I'm a bassist, so I'll check out Geddy's angle too. :-)

  • I CAN PLAY IT PERFECTLY AND IM ONLY 15

  • @mikelafman

    no you can't

  • @hamann10 yaa well watch the video and u will see

  • NEIL! PERFORM THE DRUM SOLO OF LIFE!

  • that is sick.

  • As a child, I didn't like Rush because my mean older brother did. Then I heard this song and "Dreamline" and secretly liked them. When I became a teenager, I picked up a bass guitar and immediately gained a deep and affectionate respect for all three members of Rush. Now I have every album and have seen them several times. Thank you Rush!

  • the reason neil's set shakes like that is because its a living, breathing organism

  • cada um tem uma opinião......

e cada um tem um ídolo....o john foi um exelente baterista......mas compara-lo com neil peart seria o mesmo que comparar uma lamborghini com um audi.

  • Fuck!

  • Neil will never die, Not even Chuck Norris can kill him

  • the best drummer ever!!!!!

  • How the fuck does he get in that drumset?

  • @troy6992 back where his electric meets his acoustic, on the "non-18" tom" side. (back left if you're in his throne.)

  • @troy6992 He was born with that drumset.

  • This is one of their "pop" hits and still the drumming is simply shamanic. If you have enough "Personal Power" you may transport yourself the other universes.

  • for someone who hates rush, i sure love this song a whole lot. been one of my favorites for years and years. but it sounds unlike most of what rush produces, so it makes sense.

  • I think because he changed the way he played, going with a more relaxed (Jazz) mode, it has helped him playing longer and stronger.

When you learn to play relaxed "letting the sticks do the work" you will find you actually play harder with less effort.

  • Incredible version of Subdivisions.

  • Absolute Perfection! Subdivisions is a masterpiece that could be studied for years. It teaches how to build a song, how to create tension and resolution, simplistic and complex, it has everything. And for those that will say they can play, first, I applaud you - the independence of the arms and legs is very difficult and the stamina is difficult to achieve. But I would remind you that he created that part. Imitation is flattery not creativity.

    Rock on Neil!

  • @mpesta my band used to cover this, and I loved playing this ....this video helped me figure out exactly what his dexterity was on some parts!! :-)

  • @mpesta Yes he's human. He just gets up every day and goes to work.

  • @mpesta the song itself becomes redundant, with the chorus being repeated 3 or 4 times if i remembe correctly

  • nasceu pra tocar bateria.

    ninguem chega perto.

  • @cosmonauta00 Respeito, mas John Bonham foi o maior !

  • no wonder allot the Drumming magazines have voted for Neil as top drummer so many years, sheer awesome performance!

  • It's more economy of motion. There isn't, as you can observe, a lot of wasted effort. Neil's EXTREMELY businesslike when he's behind the skins.

  • what show is this from??? i like w=how alexz guitar sounds in this one

  • that first verse is mind blowing...

  • unbelievable!

  • the best drummer ever

  • @Max2009Foda Sure, Neil's a great drummer. But to say that he is "the best drummer ever" is absolutely ridiculous.

  • @AlexTheCores Who is then smart arse ?

  • cool drums set :) nice play aswell

  • Somebody help that poor man! He's trapped inside a giant, quivering, thundering beast!

  • Thre's a lesson for ya! Yah hot love it!

  • Neil Peart's drum tech is Chuck Norris.

  • Neil Peart's drum tech is Chuck Norris.

  • why does it say "just drums" in the title? this isn't just the drums.

  • @6XstringXsamurai

    drums' view

  • @unitiss1 oh ok. that makes sense. I was thinking drums audio only.

  • Great Music! i listened to Rush,Triumph,AC/DC P.Floyd,Journey, V Halen,Fleetwood Mac..and many more back in the 80's and i stll do now. great Bands

  • @tocanchew

I can't believe you didn't listen for Frank Zappa or Genesis.

  • @gombie if you read carefully i said[ ..and many more] i did listen to Frank and Genesis,April Wine ,BoC,Led Zep',Queen,The Who,Deep Purple,The R Stones,B Sabbath,A Cooper,CCR,Yes,ZZ-Top,ELO,Bad Company,Boston, i can go on and on,but NBA playoffs is on right now and my Lakers are getting beat :(

  • 2 dislikes? What is wrong with you two? If you don't like great music, then DON'T LISTEN TO IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @chooch4freedom dude ther were just drummers whi were deoressed and crying within the first 0.5 seconds watching neil peart

  • that is the best music I ever lisen.

  • how is he not claustrophobic behind that kit?

  • sucks that the audio and video aren't in sync.

  • Such an amazing song I cant stop listening to it :D

  • @HyphyG123 HELL YEAH THEY DO

  • All 3 of the guys probably don't have much usable hearing left. It's a wonder they play as good as they do still while staying on cue.

  • neil peart is my second fav. drummer of all time. yes, hate me. alex vanhalen is my #1 drummer. hey...., too different styles. i love them both, they are the best of the best. in the RR world. no one else compares.

  • They don't call hjim the "Professor" for nothing!!!! RUSH RULES!!!!!

  • i hate him because he is better than me !! lol

  • You're not allowed in Rush if you suck. Damn straight.

  • Neil's drums make other drums feel inadequate.

  • we should make 100 facts about neil peart like chuck norris:

    1. Neil Peart IS Chuck Norris

    2. Neil's sticks aren't wood, their bones from Rick Allen's left arm

    ect.

  • Like good wine, this song only gets better with age.

  • Beautiful!!!!!

  • Clapton - God? I think not. PEART = GOD.

  • @HammernHeads why are you comparing a very good guitarist to a very good drummer..?

  • @SteveIronmaiden Because I FEEL like it. Fuck you.

  • @HammernHeads haha dude chill.. no reason to get your panties in a twist..

  • @SteveIronmaiden Yeah....well YOU try wearing lacy underwear. It's chafing my taint.

  • Neil Peart doesn't sleep. He waits.

  • @HammernHeads HAHAHAHAHA! nice, my favorite.

  • Neil Peart ate Bill Braskey without chewing.

  • @HammernHeads lol

  • @SteveIronmaiden Why not ask why someone once compared Clapton to GOD. Neil Peart is more godlike with the drums than Clapton ever was with a guitar. Class dismissed.

  • @HammernHeads your thoughts, not mine. :D

  • Why the fuck won't they come back to Halfax?

  • All this 47-year-old father of two can say is - Detroit, April 17th. I can't freaking wait!!!

  • NOONE is better than Neil Peart
