  • Why all the dislikes?! Restore is one of the only engine treatments that actually work. I'm a certified engine technician, and both recommend Restore to my customers, and use it myself. I've seen (and felt) great results from it in many different engines, and stand behind it 100%. For the best results, shake it really well before adding, and run the engine immediately after.

  • @Fluffy65 - thanks very much for your comments. the internet does seem to be mostly negative comments about everything, so it makes it worthwhile getting up in the morning when we hear from people like yourself that has ACTUALLY used Restore.

  • I'm a little concerned about this product where it says "shake well before using" - which I assume everything settles to the bottom of the can. I don't want that in my engine.

  • @Viatox - Restore is only in your engine because the engine is producing blue smoke and has lost most of its cylinder compression, or has failed the MOT Emissions test and can no longer be legally driven on the road. Restore is only in your engine for the minimum amount of time to actually repair your engine and that is normally between 500-1000 miles or 4-8 hours (cumulative - ie not all at one time). then you can go back to ordinary oils and full power and performance and no embarassing smoke.

  • I'm going to give it a try,but will have to wait till after Christmas,need to install some other parts first. I'll definately let you know of my results in a month or two.

  • Hi,me again. I've read pages of your feed back on Engine Restore and I'm a little confused. Sometimes you mention to drive the vehicle 1000 miles to see results, and other times you say run for 10 hours! My 1930 tight budget street rod with 1969, 350 sbc is off the road for the winter in upstate NY. Will this stuff work if I idle my car occasionally in my garage over the winter? sincerly,1930chevy

  • @19301024 - if you are a road vehicle then Restore will be all used up within 1000 miles cumulative. if you are tractor or canal boat then 10-20hrs on the hourmeter will do the same. A Restore treatment works like a declining exponential curve of time versus improvements. Most improvements in the first 2 hours tailing off to 8 hours.

    Restore will work in your Chevy if you fast idle the engine for at least two hours then at tickover and blip the throttle occasionally.

  • @19301024 - You should be able to notice that Restore has improved the engine at each cold start (ie less blue smoke, smoother running, easier starting).

  • will restore damage a new cam while running with an extra zinc additive(as recommended) with new camshafts? I'm burning oil due to worn rings in my  '69 350 chevy,& money is tight. I want to believe that this stuff works. 1930chevy

  • @19301024 - no worries. Restore contains lead and copper particles that actually improves lubrication in all engines, so Restore can be a substitute for zinc in break-in periods or used as an assembly lube, or Restore can simply work alongside the extra zinc used in hi-mileage oils. Zinc is now banned in USA but must be used in pompe-deuze (pdi) turbo diesel engines developed by VW (oil spec VW505 contains extra zinc) to protect the 15,000psi fuel injectors that use very high-lift cam lobes.

  • @dexter2433 - i repeat - RESTORE can be introduced down the spark-plug hole with the piston half-way down the bore just as in a dry/wet compression test or leak down test: plse google dry/wet compression test or leak down test, so we are all on the same page. thanks

  • 97 Formula with oil leak at valve cover gasket. My brother said it was also burning past the rings because he saw smoke. I fixed the leak, filled it full and thought it wouldn't use any more oil. Two tanks later it was over a quart low. I put in Restore to fill it up instead of oil. Two tanks later I bought a quart because I knew it would be low again. It was still full. 4 tanks later now it's still clear full and I have the extra quart. I have nothing to do with Restore co. Just saying.

  • @RevDogg - yes thats correct when you are in a hurry Ametech Restore can be introduced down the spark-plug hole with the piston half-way down the bore just as in a dry/wet compression test or leak down test: substitute Restore for regular oil and the cylinder walls are repaired in minutes just by spinning the crankshaft a few times. ok?

  • @Fordgpw1942ocalafl - yes you are correct Ametech Restore has been documented to repair oil pumps (actually Restore repairs the body of the oil pump, just the same as Restore repairs the double elliptical body of a Mazda rotary engine and brings the compression back to normal - same story as the oil pump similar shape body. Restore wont repair the gear teeth as they are too hard (120 Rockwell) but restore does beef up the bushings so the teeth mesh better and backlash and whine is reduced.

  • @dexter2433 - we have Restored 1000+ fledgling big end knocks in the UK. So providing the oil pump is good and the oilways are not clogged up with sludge, fledgling bigend knock engines typically go quiet 5 minutes after adding Engine Restorer and they go on for 10,s of thousands of miles with no problem. In 8 years we have experienced zero rods-through-the-blocks with these repaired engines.

  • @enginerestore then there was never a big end rod knock because if there was a big end rod knock you would have low oil presser

    that is how you can tell if the knock is a big end bearing or a wrist pin knock or piston skirt broke

    the oil pump can only build up presser if the oiling system is not out of tolerance AKA worn out or spun rod bearing or main bearing

    if the bearing is spun or worn to the point of knocking then the oil dumps right back in to the pan around the worn bearing/no presser

  • @JustMeNoOther - Ametech Restore can be introduced down the spark-plug hole with the piston half-way down the bore. You can also use RESTORE in 2 strokes where the oil is contained in a

    separate reservoir. Most modern scooters (Piaggio, Aprilia, Yamaha, Sym etc.) have a separate oil reservoir and all you do is pour 125ml RESTORE into a full tank of 2T oil. You CAN introduce Restore to a big 2t engine to save a $2000 rebore if you dont mind changing $30 clutch plates with $20 Restore.

  • @dexter2433 - duly noted. however Renault advises 20,000 mile oil changes here in the uk in order to sell cars to fleet purchasing. Possibly as a result of these extended oil changes 18,000 turbo failures have occured out of warranty (50,000 miles) These engines then also fail the emissions due to HC blue smoke. we have repaired 15,000 of these engines with a $20 can of Ametech Engine Restore enough so that they pass the yearly emmissions test and 3 subsequent UK emmissions MOT tests

  • it cant truly repair the problem, it just can help remove some of the noticeable issues. if your motor is out of specifications, its just plain out of spec; work needs to be done..... try to argue that with any machinist or competent mechanic. that being said, restore did help patch over some issues i've had previously on older styled motors (pushrods) that i did not want to spend the money on.

  • @yasha32 - so it DID save you some money and it DID resolve some engine issues. what else do you expect for $20? we find Ametech Engine Restore is a really useful product in most wear situations and can delay a complete rebuild for several years or up to 100,000 miles in some cases here in the UK. it is just like going to the dentist with a sore tooth. it helps only marginally with glazed bores, broken rings and cracked pistons.

  • @enginerestore i got what i paid for, i just think its deceptive to use the word repair when we're talking about an oil additive. a pour in chemicals does not repair, it can patch, clean, change oil's properties, and a whole pile of other stuff; but not repair. nano-bot auto techs just dont exist yet for restore to repair anything

  • @Veikra - the only way is to try some on a tired engine and you will be amazed. USA is painfull at $3/gal but fuel here in the uk is THREE times that at GBP£1.45 / litre (US$9/USgal) so even a slight improvement in engine efficiency power and torque is gratefully received in the UK! Typically we get 3-5 extra mpg in an older engine with a $20 Restore treatment (based on 5000 clients feedback in the last 12 months).

  • @enginerestore Well I pay 7$ a gallon. And I do the proper maintenance so I don't have any badly neclegted cars to try it. My truck does 12l/100km. When the rings are gone and the pistons are slack, there are no bottled mecanic to fix that. Only way I could see this working is if the engine has rings stuck in the grooves and this breaks them loose again. Otherwise, this will just glaze the cylinders.

  • @Veikra - Restore repairs the cylinder wall slot that gets gouged out at top dead centre where the compression ring reverses direction. you can feel this with your finger nail. 1000miles after Engine Restore you can see gray and brown (lead and copper) filling the slot so no more loss of compression and no more blue smoke.

    My question is if this stuff fills in and repairs the cylinder walls to restore them, how does this stuff react to the small holes and stuff the oil has to go through ? To me it sounds like this stuff would gunk up and "repair" everything .. Im confused

  • @1ownjoo2 - in the 26 years since Restore was introduced to the market in Miami in 1985 Restore has NEVER gunked up nor blocked small holes nor oil filters, So dont be confused, these are microscopically small non-magnetic and non-static round spheres of copper honeycomb, filled with solder grade lead. Both copper and lead have been in engines since Gottfied Benz invented the internal combustion engine. we just apply it as a babbetizing self repair by mixing in 30 wt engine oil as a carrier.

    Ok thanks for that information and response. I saw a can of your restore product in advance auto parts when i was just looking around. Currently my engine (5.9 V8 with 126k) is in top condition as far as the cylinder walls, and rings because i have almost no blow by and the PSI readings are really good.. However if i come accross an engine that has issues with piston slap and stuff i wil take this product into consideration..

  • Too bad we can't proove it doesnt work to the company, since we'd need a multi million dollar facilities with independant testing and years of data logging and engineering's report so that they would accept the claim as a defective product.

    Good to pass the MOT maybe, but your engine's internals are still beyong specification and need a rebuild in the end.

  • @Veikra - so why dont you try and prove it doesnt work. it has a money back guarantee. we CAN prove it DOES work 58,000 times here in the uk (99% success) ands 150 million cans sold worldwide with less than 1% refund requests worldwide. Restore can delay the need for a rebuild for many years for only $20.

  • @enginerestore I don't have any worn engines to try it on. Since you claim you can proove it , do a before and after vids with a compression test and a leakdown test before and after.

Well you are right, but sometimes I have to make the difference between scratched cylinder and tired cylinder, maybe the product work fine with scratched, I say maybe because I do not prove it, and definitely this product does not work with a tired, because the cylinder is "open" or "fat" lost the figure and piston ring open widely (no compression), I guess you will win with an scratched cylinder, and will lose with tired one, an opinion.   • @JuniorPros118 - no, dont put RESTORE in premix 2T fuel. instead pour a teaspoon RESTORE down the spark plug hole with the piston at half way down so the exhaust port is covered, rotate the crank back and forwards so the rings embed the RESTORE particles. then spin the crank a few times before replacing the heated spark plug and starting. it will smoke for a while then clear, this is a semi permanent repair will last several seasons.

  • I really want to believe but this product is really "bullshit" so far. My friend got one for his compression problem on a 4runner 6 cyl and its been over a week now and it hasn't improve at all. we will wait 1 more week to see if it helps. I doubt it!!!

  • @MrSaeteurn - Ametech Engine Restorer takes 8 hrs or 1000 miles to be all done so could you give us an update on your friends 4runner 6cyl? how many miles or hours of operation and changes in the compression readings? thanks

  • I saw in a JC Whitney catalog a kit for doing this. The liquid went into the oil and pellets were dropped into the sparkplug holes. It said it was like a ring and valve job while you drive. My view of it-what ever works to keep your wheels going.

  • Will this product fix my 94 Subaru with 426,000 miles?? It smokes like a freight train and sounds like a hay bailer.Also it has thick black smoke pouring from the exhaust.Will this product make the engine new again??

  • @sallymaggiespotty - yes this is a bread and butter problem for Engine Restorer. just shake up and add a medium size can of Restore Engine Restorer to fresh oil and install a new oil filter and drive normally. this will quickly cure the blue smoke component in both exhausts. also add a bottle of ANTI-LEAK to fatten up valve guide oil seals. the black smoke is overfuelling on the right two cylinders and that has to be investigated after Restore has done its work at around 1000 miles

  • I just bought 4.5 quarts worth of the v8 cans and changed my oil with just these, and drove for about 2000 miles befor taking apart the head and wow the head cyl wals look brand new! its amazing withe the befor and after pics i took

  • @ljackson9415 - if you mean a Crown Victoria ie police car, then yes we have done hundreds of these cars over the years. we even have a positive report on 5 test vehicles at Miami Dade Police Dept.

  • @warmachine9210 - where is the surface rust? on bare metal - use one of the proprietary products available from your local hardware store or auto dealer: Jenolite, Kurust, Hammerite etc are designed for a particular purpose/environment. i have often resorted to buying phosphoric acid from a chemist. it bonds to rust and turns it black and stable. bear in mind it creates very toxic fumes and must be used outside with eye protection and chemical gloves.....

  • @warmachine9210 -... remove most of the rust with a wire brush or grinding wheel then use the acid then wash off with water to neutralise the acid once the rust has turned black. if you are treating a car panel, better still is grind away all the rust and then use a blowtorch and plumbers lead solder to build up the surface and a mild sanding disk to flatten. this is what classic car enthusiasts use. wash, dry, then prime and paint.

  • @c00smeen All you need to do is keep up on your engine... And i just bought a truck with 300,000 i run this stuff everytime it makes it run smoother and i feel a huge difference in the engine before. I can do a before and after results for sure

  • @elkillerx - we cant rebuild worn transmissions due to the clutch plates but we do make a transmission helper to reduce heat friction stickiness and notchy gear changes. we call it metal-tec-10, you may have to copy and paste into google:

  • What the hell are you selling here?...do you not realize this is absurd? u can not rebuild metal wear with oil...:))) and what about compression?...the piston rings will scrape that oil in a stroke...THIS IS A JOKE...stop lying to people...

  • @c00smeen It's not a lie... How about before you run your mouth you try it. In my car with 220,000 miles i had a little knock and compresion was around 16. Now compression is at 19 and the knock is gone. Sounds smoother and feel a good amount of performance difference.

  • @AMQR - normally you pour AMETECH ENGINE RESTORE OIL on top of fresh oil, BUT if you are in a big hurry and are trying to cure piston slap/blue smoke/compression quickly, then the oil GOES DOWN THE SPARK PLUG HOLES (or glowplug holes if a diesel), hence the artist rendition of oil on top of the piston.

    same as a dry/wet compression or leak-down test only using RESTORE instead of ordinary oil. OK?

  • @AMQR also - if the engine is 4stroke +engineoil lubed wet-clutch as in Honda Suzuki Kawasaki then Restore HAS to go down the spark plug holes so as NOT to make the clutch slip. BMW k1100 and Ducati etc have dry clutch and RESTORE goes on top of the engine oil. OK? 1970s Triumph BSA Norton AJS Matchless unit construction and pre-unit construction engines have seperate oil in the clutch casings so RESTORE goes on top of the engine oil. ok?

  • contin'd... 3) Engine Restore is a very useful repair product if you catch the knocking right away. If you have simply run out of oil due to blue smoke or a hole in the sump from a rock. fix the problem, renew the oil and add a can or two of RESTORE and it will rebuild fledgling big end knock (and annoying small end tapping) as long as the oil pump is good and is producing good oil pressure.

    If it aint broke, dont replace it, RESTORE it with some Ametect Engine Restore Oil.

  • @enginerestore the only way the oil pump can create good oil pressure is if the bearings are in good shape to begin with DOH

  • cont'd...2) the knocking then tells you to stop and investigate before the crankshaft surfaces (journals) get scratched. the shell bearings cost under $100 plus the labour to remove the oil and sump cover. then repair or replace the oil pump, replace all the shell bearings, replace the sump and fill with oil and off you go. BUT BUT BUT if the crank surfaces (called journals) are deeply scratched then it has to removed along with a complete engine strip down and rebuild ($2-3000)

  • May this product help this engine knocking noise i have on my 93' Nissan 300ZX ???? Someone told me it might be my oil pump... But before i start spending alot of money... I would like to know if this might work...

  • @nissanguy99 - if the oil pump has failed or clogged up or if a retaining bolt has broken or the pressure release valve is stuck open then oil supply to the crankshaft oilways has been compromised and main bearing and conrod shell bearing failure may have resulted. these shell bearings are coated with copper/tin/lead or silver which surfaces are designed to melt if there is no oil supply........

  • @nissanguy99 the only way you can fix a knock is buy repairing the damaged part and no oil additive can do that stay away from it

    fix the problem before you send a rod threw the block and you have to replace the hole thing instead of a repair

  • @MonsterMX82 - yes - you might try one litre Restore (1000ml) if you are in Europe, or a quart if you are in North America.

  • @videodude4 - Ametech Restore is safe with all turbos and all superchargers. Restore repairs worn turbo bearings and reduces oil lost through worn turbo seals.

  • Will this fill in blowby on a 2-stroke 30cc homelite engine? It had seized up and I got the cylinder smooth, with rings, it'll fire and run but I wanna fill it in.

  • I have used RESTORE on ALL my high milage vehicels. I am confident this product helped me get over 200,000+++ miles each on 3 different vehicles. My Dodge Ram 1500 has 247k miles, is my daily driver, and it still runs good. By the way, not one ticket, not one accident in about 700,000 miles. I don't speed up to get to a red light or ever DUI!

  • Respond to this video... - But if you have a separate 2T oil resevoir then simply add 150ml of Restore to the oil resevoir and top up with 2T. It will smoke a bit more than normal then it will be repaired.

  • @darnlate Hi there, on what basis do you say that? It is only temporary if you are lazy and dont flush to engine clean (so Restore has to deal with sludge and varnish) . We have hundreds of cars in the UK that had failed MOT (emissions test) then were treated with one can of Restorer, now driven subsequently 100,000+ miles, passing 3 more yearly MOT tests and 6 subsequent oil changes on the way, and still not needing additional treatment. Sorry, but i dont call 120,000 miles temporary.

  • depending on where you are in the world, normally googling engine restore oil will find a local stockist. in the usa try napa pep boys autozone, in canada try canadian tyre, in the uk try ametech on ebay uk, in france try carrefour

  • @1990fordf150custom They sell it at Pep Boys, Checker, AutoZone. Just ask for it, and buy the right size for the # of cylinders your vehicle has, 4/6/or 8. Cost $10 or less.

  • Used it twice in old worn engines and it did actually restore weak compression and it also stopped the smoking. Good stuff, it's cheap, and in older worn engines it does what it's supposed to do.

  • Tried this for the first time in my 1991 Grand Wagoneer 5.9L with 127,000 miles. It definitely felt peppier after the treatment. Pulled harder and accelerated quicker. As I drove it for about an hour, I could feel it get better and better.

    I have heard that it works better if you change your oil and poor in the Restore. Then turn on the car and let it warm up. Then shut it off and let it sit for a week. I cant do this since the wagoneer is my daily driver.

  • @rcnuty basically you can do a dry/wet compression test only using RESTORE instead of ordinary oil to actually repair the bore while doing the test. If the piston slap reduces and compression lifts a little, do it again, and again until happy! So lower each piston in turn and add 400ml of RESTORE down the spark plug or glow plug hole (easier than injector).

  • @rcnuty continued.. then use an aquarium style pump or syringe and re-use in the next cylinder and so on. what remains stuck to the cylinder walls will quickly repair piston slap and raise compression in that cylinder..

  • @rcnuty yes, but the way to treat piston slap is to add Restore oil during a dry/wet compression test (or leakdown test) instead of using ordinary oil. each attempt will permanently raise compression by 10-20psi. repeat as necessary to achieve even higher cylinder compression. we have taken many problem nikasil Jaguar V8 engines from +- 60psi to +-160 psi in 5 consecutive (same day) dry/wet compression tests each treatment building on the one before. thanks dave uk 01728 726620

  • I used this in my 98 dodge ram, it definitely solved the tappet rattle.

    -1993 Eclipse 232k miles, stopped smoking, restored power

    -1997 Serria 190k miles, restored MPG

    -1988 Bonnieville 160k, restored MP

    -2004 Grand Am, 40k-125k, always pulled hard, never smoked

    I love to use this stuff in high mileage piston engines!!!

  • iv checked with dvla uk the engine in the morris minor was fitted to the car in 1961 so both car and engine are to that year.and it still runs...........

  • i tryed this in a 1961 morris minor.948cc it had low oil presure.smoky exhaust,lumpy engine,and a smell of oil..the green oil light.stays off now,so oil presure is good.no smell of oil.and the engine rock steady,and the blue smoke has gone...im happy...mentioned some where on here tho will seafoam fix my battery.....

  • remember people, this is a TEMPORARY fix, not a permanent fix. Think about it.

    I am NOT saying this product does not work, nor have i tried it. I have always FIXED a worn motor the correct way. But if your budget is tight, then this product may be the way. do your research, it will pay off in the end.

  • @Flippit1303 RESTORE is a 30wt sae30 oil containing billions of copper lead 2-20micron spherical particles. RESTORE is the worlds leading engine and gearbox re-metaliser. Four years ago a client Audi A6 taxi failed MOT here in the UK . Client added 400ml Restore and took it for a fast 200mile drive over the weekend. Compression improved and MOT passed on the Monday. 4 years and 100,000 miles later, 10 oil changes & 3 (yearly) emissions MOT tests. Not bad for GBP£22 of Restore.

  • listen. im ganna buy some of this shit and put it in my 1991 cr 250, hopefuly it works. now if anyone can help me out here what do i do with it. one comment said dont put it in ur premix fuel just dump a bit down the spark plug hole, then another commment i read some guy said"im pretty sure you have to put this in ur oil everytime you use it" my oil goes in my gas cus its 2stroke so whats good here what do i do put it in dont put it in im lost. someone please help/give me some advice. thanks.

  • @lysis666 dont put RESTORE in premix 2T fuel. instead pour a teaspoon RESTORE down the spark plug hole with the piston at half way down so the exhaust port is covered, rotate the crank back and forwards so the rings embed the RESTORE particles. then spin the crank a few times before replacing the heated spark plug and starting. it will smoke for a while then clear, this is a semi permanent repair will last several seasons.

  • Works. put this in my 52 GMC and the blow-by is almost completely gone. It is not an engine rebuild in a bottle, but it will probably pay for its self in MPG. Im pretty sure you have to have this stuff in your oil at all times, every oil change or it will just wear off in no time, good stuff, gives me more time to save up for some new light weight pistons in the next engine rebuild :D

  • engine restore, take an old worn out engine 200k plus miles, do a dyno test. then run restore through it and test again. then i'll believe. also on top of a dyno do a compression test. and i will buy tonnes of your products

  • Respond to this video... ... we have offered this deal to WHICH Mag, FIFTH GEAR, and to BBC TV Top Gear for their low powered, low compression, Italian sports cars under a grand show, but they haven't taken us up on our offer (so far). maybe if you were to write to them they might do it? the reason i suggest this is that we have done all kinds of uni testing but then when the results are published we are accused of funding the results. yes of course we fund the (impartial) results.

  • @jsnyara it does work pretty well .... its not a magic cure all wonder chemical but you can expect better performance and I found reduced noise... I put it in a 40 year old A series 1275 and it defiantly helped.

  • iam not being rude at all, but i have been working on cars sence i was a little kid,and i still do and iam 42 now, i tried alot of the bandade soloutions out there and so far they are all junk, i work on old clukers and modern day cars, iam also a small engine mechanic and a machinest and welder,there is nothing thats going to bandade valve guides and seals been there done that.but what ever, if it works it works, iam just a beliver and been taught you do the job right the first time, so sorry

  • you also need to learn to read , i did state and i quote you only rebuild or replace on cars that are worth the time and money to do it on, a customer would rather have the car fix properly then to have it not fixed properly, you show only the cylinder walls , but if your crank or bearings are shot then your really screwed arnt you, a worn engine is more then just compression problems, which sometimes are the valves not the piston rings,or somthing else could be the problem

  • @KevinMillard68 - if you are going to be rude then we should finish this discussion. i ve been repairing and rebuilding engines: motorbikes, cars, to Caterpillar bulldozers to 2200hp Locomotives on 3 continents for 40 years. may i ask what about the student who has a clunker that gets him to college and to his part time job who doesn't have $2000 for a rebuild, $20 of RESTORE will pass emissions testing and the MOT. By the way RESTORE does also fix fledgling bottom end knock and tappet rattle.

  • ok you have seen only a few well thats special aint it, i have never had a problem with a rebuilt motor or one that was just R&R straight out from another car, so this means your experience and opnion is based only on a a few lemonds and you likley picked engines that you knew had about the same miliage which would also means junk with junk replacments. even goo gone dont work on half the stuff they say it does, so why is your product so special.

  • but you gota ask your self whats it worth to you, on old calssic cars you get them fixed the right way, on any car thats less then 20 years of age, you find a used motor and if need be a tranny as well that or junk the car and just buy a replacement car..i have done a fre R and Rs and its not all that bad, rebuild time is abotu a week some times 2 weeks, but you only do it on cars that are worth the time and money..

  • @KevinMillard68 - perhaps if you have lots of time and money. our experience is lasts over 100,000 miles and costs under $50 for any size car engine. you believe that 2 or 3 days work and spending hundreds on a take out engine is better (with unknown problems - we have seen a few take-outs that blew water everywhere after they had been installed and hooked up and test run - that meant another takeout engine and another two days and several hundreds more besides the clients frustration level).

  • now you can also put any engine in any car, yes you might need a new tranny as well. for a non production engine in that car but no big deal, just find a matching motor tranny and mod the mounts as needed.they said slick 50 was good stuff, well it blew up its share of engines,so much for the engineers on the one, also foryour piston comment if you cant buy them you get them made plain and simple.anyhting can be fixed and yes for price and it takes time as well

  • well sure but in my experience all this crap in a can stuff really does not work and usually causes more problems then it can cure,the expense of rebuilding and engine is a bit pricy but you can also replace with a new or good used engine, a used engine is alot less money and down time is usually 48 hours max, unless the mechanic is lazy,on and old car its used engines only usually,

  • best soloution rebuild the engine the right way,

  • @KevinMillard68 - we all agree but that is providing you dont need your car for a couple of weeks (ie how much is a weeks' car rental?) plus the $3000 to pay a mechanic, or else do it yourself and a week off work (lost wages?) to do all the rebore work and honing plus the cash to buy new pistons rings and gasket sets. That s also assuming you can get oversize pistons for some older classic cars. All that work and expense, versus $50 for a few cans of Restore and absolutely no down time.

  • I use restore in my engines probably twice every year for each engine.

    Is the coating it makes something thats visible, itd be interesting to see some before and after shots of cylinder bores if the difference is noticeable.

  • I believe this stuff actually works, our family uses it in all our everyday cars. Though I cannot prove in any way it works it hasn't ruined anything(we also use Fram oil filters so maybe our engines are tougher than usual LOL).

  • GOT A QUESTION FOR YA, i got a 2 stroke dirtbike with a steel sleeve in it and its down on compression, 1) is it mixable with 2 stroke oil and will it bung up my carb

    and 2) do you think it will fix it enough that it will run for like an hr lol?? hope for a reply :)

  • @arcanacelestia - are you comparing 3 cars, versus 1 car (engine was not touched in 60 hrs of racing and the last lap time was the same as the first), are you comparing oils available in 1989 versus 1979, and are you comparing a high speed banked oval test track at constant engine rpm, versus the ten F1 tracks in the World Championship of Makes Group 4 Champion For 1979 which includes Brands Hatch, Nurburgring, LeMans etc (90mph corners and 175mph straights)?

  • @enginerestore I accept your distinctions between our statements, but it still comes down to the fact that there is a total absence of impartial scientific tests conducted by a randomly chosen panel of Chartered Mechanical Engineers. Petrol and oil additive products have an abysmal history of unscientific advertising hype so if you are serious about your product then your should invite a University like Cambridge to test and publish a report on your product.   • @arcanacelestia - can you propose a random panel of Chartered Mechanical Engineers to do this testing for under £10k here in the UK? Restore Co USA had University of Pennsylvania and Florida perform excellent tests in 1985 to get their license from the US Dept of Transportation, and several other USA testing bodies, including TUV Luxembourg, in 1985/86 and these could be scanned and put on a website if you are interested?

  • @enginerestore Precisely. 1985! Testing and technology has advanced leaps and bounds in the mean time, engines have become more finely machined to precise measurements. Not to mention with different techniques, your product shows marks in the cylinder walls being filled. Without sounding patronising honing produces a series of fine scratches in the cylinder walls to help with things like oil lubrication in the cylinders for the pistons. I'd like to see modern, up to date tests on modern engines.

  • @anonobomber - good point but cant we consider the identical control group as the 7 other race teams in Group 4 (GT) running identical Porsche 935 cars who could not keep up with the Restore car over ten races in 10 countries?.

  • @anonobomber i had a pontiac 2001 grandprix my oil system was begining to fail for whatever reason and was losing compression due to my piston rings wearing down 2 bottles of engine restore 30 minutes of run time and my compression was back to 9.1 to 1 where it should have been back up from 8.1 to 1 and it lasted for almost 8 months so yes i would advice this to anybody with oil burning problems and damaged rings.

  • @FuckTheSystemHard - it is not a time graph, it is a cylinder compression graph. the curves are longer because the compression has been permanently raised by the restore process.

  • @snowyseb you dont tell us diesel or petrol? i'll answer for petrol. push the car onto a flat carpark type surface with lots of room in front and behind. remove spark plugs (if diesel injectors or glowplugs). squirt 25mls of Ametech Restore down the spark plug hole into each cylinder. disconnect the HT (disable the spark) . gearlever into 4th gear (i assume manual gearbox) . take the handbrake off. rock/push the car BACKWARDS to undo the sieze until the engine frees up. replace plugs HT & start

  • @enginerestore Doesn't do a seized up piston a huge damage to the inside of the cylinder? I think you cannot fix that with a spray.

  • @wusselfussel i agree. it depends on how fast the engine was spinning when it seized and how long it was running on low oil. but what about seizing your engine on low oil in the middle of scotland on a bank holiday sunday (or the sahara desert !). who will rebuild your engine for you on a bank holiday sunday? but free up the engine and limp home for £20 sounds like a good deal to me with children in the back seat. dont laugh we have a scenario from scotland and from the sahara just this scenario
