  • the music and the pictures from the edge of the space are just perfect!

  • just amazing

  • This video is an Argue to skeptics of the power of the Creator

    thanks James

  • @SuperMesho11 It has nothing to do with wheter or not there was a creator....

  • @SuperMesho11 The creator being Kelly Johnson, of course.

  • Wow that is cool

  • Waaoooooowww!

  • Mabuhay ka Capt. Cabi!!! :D

  • The first time I saw this video I was the whole time with tears in my eyes and my heart in my hands, I would give everything I have, to be able to have that experience of being at 70 000 feet.................AMAZING and Simply breathtaking !!!!!!!!

  • simply breath taking .... inspiring and for you guys who fly these aircraft? i know you've got perils in doing so but dam i'm jealous. put simply? the best job/view in the world (or of the world) fantastic video. and the person who dislikes. the fact you took the time to dislike something like that sums you up really.

  • simply breath taking .... inspiring and for you guys who fly these aircraft? i know you've got perils in doing so but dam i'm jealous. put simply? the best job/view in the world (or of the world) fantastic video.

  • PchanStitch,

The world is a smaller place having seen it from a different vantage. We all occupy it. The political aspects of the current world stage do anger me at times. Having said that, what is considered "petty" is open to discussion.

I can say that I believe our enemies have made a move that places them in that category. Once they've done so.....I would use absolute power against them to defeat that threat. Wouldn't "enjoy" it. It is a necessity.

    Lee

  • Why don't they build planes with stages? That way they can continue all the way up into orbit. It would be rather cheap considering all of the stages would be re-usable.

  • @Doctor699 Interesting idea indeed. But still, the amount of fuel needed to carry for space missions would be too much for a plane to handle. I think that's the reason that hasn't been done and will not be done.

  • @Heavykani Yea now that i think about it, maybe if they straped a plane onto a rocked like the space shuttle and did it in a direct acent way, but thats already been done.

  • Plenty of Sigur Ros sprinkled in the soundtrack

    :)

  • well like james said " i think im getting emoitional" i sure was! there were tears building up! our planet is just beautiful! we need to stop over populating it and polluting it! fuck i wanna go to the edge of space so bad! just like james did!

  • @tylerwalker2 fuck u hippy

  • @THEbluntHEAD420 fuck you republican

  • @tylerwalker2

Hope you have your pressure suit on when you are tearing up! Those tears would boil away at your eyes!

  • Imagine being in the U2 and seeing the shuttle take off below you and come right by your window. That would the ultimate experience.

  • What does he say at 6:24? 'Something' of Eternity... Please somebody tell me.

  • @iKnollex the view of Eternity. it makes sense because he is talking about deep space.

  • I want too :)

  • how can u not like this ?

    it's marvelouse!!!!!!!!

(if thats how u spell it)

  • iv bin higher.

  • We really are all child of the Stars and of this Planet...We are a Chemical Composition made of the same Chemical Elements from...and of this Planet....Nothing else....so when it dies....we die....and everything with it....so don't we as a Species owe it to this our Planet that we damage and destroy??...the very thing that gave us....as well as made us....to owe it....and show it some Respect?...The choice is yours.

  • this bring tears to my eyes

this is blisteringly beautiful and humbling

  • Wow :) I have no words to describe this. Thanks to all those who go out in space o advance mankind :) and thanks topgear.

  • awesome.... totally awesome!!!

  • Any idea of the music(s) anybody?

  • That one person who disliked just wanted to stand out.

  • @Lamzeerzo They probably just missed the "Like" button

  • This is what i would do, if i had money.

  • To all that enjoy this footage, there is a U-2 airborne right now, as you do your job, play with your kids, or do whatever the freedom provided by our armed forces gives you.

The footage is dramatic, and as a former U-2 pilot, I can say that the sights from that "office window" are inspiring.

However, the pilots flying operational missions are exposed to both the threats of the environment they operate in as well as the threats of flying in combat environments.

    They deserve your gratitude.

  • @leeflhx When you see the earth from that view, while flying combat missions, do you ever get to thinking like James did, and start to realize just how petty many of the differences we have in this world are once you view earth from a few steps back and realize just how small everything is? Kind of like an irony?

  • @leeflhx there are very few combat scenarios that would take a U2 down though right?

  • @leeflhx lol that you think that your army and war on terror gives you freedom.

  • felt emotional watching this. cant help but think, when your at the edge of space and you look back at the earth, the human race is just a speck in the vastness of the universe.

    many thanks to pieter615. :)

  • Thanks for posting this...fantastic to watch!

  • Smart idea of the pilot to put a 2 dollar bill in May's suit.

  • I wish to be one of the pilots hmmmm Great work BBC

  • The world is just incredible :) I love it, on the ground, or on the edge of space, its just... breath taking. People take it for granted, and I hate it..

  • this video has 1 dislike. i am pritty sure he is russian.

  • @xmiami305x What makes tou think that? I'm a russian and I find the video magnificent

  • the world is full of horrible individuals... but

it looks gorgeous from the outside

  • The air base is in Beale Air Force Base in which he practised safety drills and learnt how to use a space suit correctly.

  • James May what an awesome man he is i think in all of my life i never watch such an perfect documentary thank you for this pieter615!!!

  • @username40699 Your English is horrible

  • everybody should watch this. from earth we dont realise what we're slowly destroying. from up there, you realise how important it is to preserve this magnificent little planet. earth you are so beautiful!

  • And Obama Cancels constellation with no replacement for the Shuttle...

  • i'm a grown man but if i'd get there in person i'd probably get tears in my eyes.

  • i wish we could just use either Rocketplanes OR balloons to get to space instead of stuff we only use once then drop back to pollute the Earth.

  • music?

  • Its amazing how a war plane can show you how insignficant our problems truely are. At that high politics and the like take second fiddle to the granduer of our world

  • @ORACLE063 its not even a combat aircraft, its like a huge spying glyder that takes pictures

  • 1) At what exact date was the flight? I hope it is not classified.

    2) Does US army plan to do such flights for civilians on commercial basis? (like they do in Russia)

    Thanks for info!

  • @aeroempi:

    1) Flew on 12 Feb 2009, film aired in the UK on 21 Jun 2009

    2) The USAF does NOT!

  • @jjjcabi Thank you for response! Such flight is my childhood dream. I am a weekend pilot flying motorgliders, so I love heights and long wings :-)

    Have a nice day JJJ!

P/S: is it really you personally, the pilot from USAF who took James in U2? Or you just present that major on internet for media? Is there any validation process in US Army, what you can answer or write on internet i.e. to this discussion? (some censorship, or validation what is classified, etc.)

  • I am going.... I would prefer to do it here in the US and I am trying to pull some connections to do so. Regardless, I will go to Moscow to do it if need be. By this time next year, I will have my own video to add. Never stop dreaming!

  • @soar4fun What are you going to do? I am from Moscow myself and I've never heard about a company offering near-space flights here

  • @soar4fun have you found anywhere in the US to do this?

  • @soar4fun Well...

  • James May is one lucky guy. I'd serously sonsider cutting something off of my body to fly in the U2 haha. I must say I really like him. Watch his other projects like "Toy Stories, Big Ideas and 20th Century" and you'll see that he's an excellent broadcaster and journalist. Top bloke. This hast to be one, it not THE deathbed memory. Absolutely fabulous :-)

  • wow i hope 1 day i can experiance that after i become a pilot only 3 more months of flight school cant what (:

  • Does anybody know whether the music (specially the part where he prepares to board the U2) is available on iTunes?

  • @MyWIMM

I know one of the songs is from a sigur ros album

  • Incredible video... and lucky guy...

  • James May, one of the few men on the planet who can say that they've been up that high, and farted :p

Legendary :). Somehow, the feeling of insignificant doesn't leave one feeling helpless. Rather, it inspires a sense of.....empowerment, and duty.

  • Best of the best so far. Amaizing. Gives you whole new prospective on life. Thank you for giving us this kind of expiriance.

  • Truly stunning, makes me feel very small indeed...

  • I find it ironic, his nickname is captain slow, but he's speed tested the veyron, rode with ken block, and done this, I'd say he's anything but slow.

  • @bronz3321 : Thats British humor. Its an acquired taste.

  • the amazing thing about it the were only at 70,000ft the aircraft con go well into the 100,000ft range!

  • @U2flyer haveing heard james may interviewed after doing this apparently the U2 went alot higher than stated in the vid but he was told by the USAF he couldn't discuss how high

  • Wow, James you are one lucky son of a *&^^% !

  • unbelievable...

  • just Wow :-)

  • What an amazing experience!

  • great music

  • I wanna do it.......Can you pay to do this like a ride in an F-16?

  • @d4t4wx

if you have a big wallet maybe but i doubt it unfortunatly =[

  • @d4t4wx i don't think they go this high......i may be wrong

  • james may is the best of the lot.
