It's funny how they mentioned bad back, because it was his back that stopped him having to do mandatory military service in Switzerland like all Swiss males have to do.
If I were the runner-up here, I'd be crying with Roger through that whole interview. This was the first major tournament I watched, and it definitely impacted me in a big way and is why I fell in love with this goofball. @ vinagre76 it pains me for ppl to say Federer is cocky or arrogant as well because it's a misinterpretation of his passion and love for tennis. It just means more to him than it does other players. By comparison Nadal is too self-deprecating and Roddick is arrogant.
@unowen727 ..hey hold it! he won the ATP Stefan Edberg Sportsmanship Award more than once? are u kidding me? he just won his 7th just 2 days back! and then went on to win his record 9th consecutive ATP tour fan favourite award bringing up his total ATP award record 22! this guy is unbelievable!
this was the match that won me over n the palpable emotion in Federer just did me in..i shed tears every time i watch this...a champion who appreciates winning and never taking advantage of that...
Anyone who says this man is arrogant should take a look at themselves and check if eyes, ears and brain are in the right place. Roger is a role model for everyone, a lovely fella and probably the most educated player ever. This video makes me cry everytime I watch it.
@vinagre76 i know, they think hes arrogant because he cries, its like adding 2+2 and getting 5. but i have to be fair to other players and say that, although Roger is very educated, speaks many languages, there are players thatve finished college, who should be more educated than him, but yeah, hes a great guy!
Wish I could give this video a million Likes. Just look at this lesson on passion... imagine forming your life around some goal, wanting something that bad and then finally getting it and being so grateful and unguarded while on stage that tears come freely like that. This is greatness and being human at the same time.
@Globox822 Haha I think Federer is very humble considering all he's done. Have you seen how egotistical Pete Sampras was? After Rafter beat him at the 97 US Open, someone asked Sampras, "What's the difference between you and Rafter?" and Sampras said "10 grand slams." Rafter again won the US open in 98, and then Sampras said: "When I see Rafter holding the US Open trophy, it pisses me off."
AHAHA OMG 2:08, I love you, Roger. I laughed because he kind of convulsed for a second there and it was totally unexpected! But I love his humility and genuine love for the game.
I agree I'm routing for Novak. Not Rafa or Andy. I think it's too late for Novak to challenge Rogs record though. 2 years from now it will be someone else at the top.
@ivanmrkvc7 To answer your moronic question: A true champion (for many the greatest of all time) who is very passionate about his sport, one reason he's so popular with the fans (he has won ATP World Tour.com Fans' Favorite award EVERY year since 2003!) and among many other records has still 13 GS titles more than your Serbian darling.
@ivanmrkvc7 We'll see about that. But it seems normal to me that Nole will win most of the upcoming matches between them given the fact that he is in his prime and Roger is past his. And even if Rog would never make it into the semifinals of a GS again as you suggested, he would still be considered as one of the greatest players that ever touched a racket. There's nothing you can do about that, dear Ivan Markovic.
@lionjake72 One of the greatest,I agree.Just understand that there are people in this world that don't like him. It's not jealousy it's free choice dear Cyrill Peter
@ivanmrkvc7 OK, I understand that. Nevertheless, there's no need for abusive language (pussy), maybe you could choose to renounce to it, Ivan? By the way, I find that Nole is playing unbelievable this season. I'm glad that he's around and that he's giving Nadal a hard time. He's a great champion and seems to be a nice person.

Damn you gotta love them both!
Federer is the greatest EVER!
And if there is someone on the tour now that I wish he could get at least close to Federer's greatness, that someone is certainly Djokovic!
Not Nadal, not Murray, DJOKOVIC!
Federer IS the greatest and Djokovic might become the greatest one day.

They say you can't compare different eras and so can't definitively say who's the GOAT.
But for me, Fed's prime years of '04-'07, shows me a dominant champion that can rightfully take his place at the very top of this sport.
BTW, watching this interview, brings to mind that quote:
"I can cry like Roger, it's just a pity I can't play like him"- Andy Murray
