This video shows that the TWR Jags would have been as competitive @ Bathurst in 1986 had they raced as they were in 1985 despite any lack of development since late 1984.
I remember Channel 7 in Sydney showing this race. Brocky sticking it to the Jags,Gricey 3-wheeling into the pits during the wet. And, if I'm not mistaken, Brad Jones is in a Starion (not the leading Starion N# 2, but in Car N# 5). Does anyone know where, if possible, I can get this race on DVD?
That is one cool video, it has Starions, which i love and Commodores, that you can't help but respect for their performance on the world stage. Great stuff.
The Starions did very well on the touring car seen untill the Sierria cosworth was fully developed. I was driven by Dave Brodie in his British touring car Starion around goodwood in around 1987 and it was very impressive.
Is that a VK Commodore in the land of the rising sun back then. It was a great V8 touring race car. They love Aussie cars just as we love Jap cars. LOL. Starion's will never be as good as a Ford RS500 Cosworth, both have 4 cyl engines.
yeah they're all here twr with their jags brocky and gricey with thir commadores and a shed load of nissans and starions and i can see a 635csi and a 240 turbo. it's one big grp a party.
Starion was let down by it's primitive SOHC engine and single point fuel injection. Cossie had 50 more hp, same weight and 4wd advantage. If the starion had those assets it would be a different story. Considering it doesn't have all that and still managed to keep the ford on it's toes I'd say it's a pretty good car.
Cosworth was a subsidiary of Ford for a very short time, it was independent in the beggining and the Technology division was briefly owned by Volkswagen and is now part of Mahle GmbH.
RS500 Cosworth engine intruduced at '87 so it not was a YB engine! in this race.
Starion had a 4G63BT based 12V Sirius Dash engine that in this racing formule has 350 rwHP, at this time there were a 4WD/4WS version as well, but unfortunately they used them in the Rally seasons only...
Excellent video....go the Aussie power...5.0litre V8 Commodore. We had great racing in Australia in the mid 80's, and in Japan as I have just found out!

No cosworth sierras here they wern't homologated till 1987. Starions were really unreliable in group a, and a Rs500 is not 4wd.

Both engines has its own potential, but Mitsu have been always famous for its reliable, bullettproof engines.
Anyway at that time, Ford used Mazda Technologies as well (Auto Alliance Inc. formerly known as MMUC) for the engine developments.
