There is a good quality copy of this vid posted under 'Killing Joke Exit Generation 80'... but before you all go rushing off, this posting is much more in keeping with the erm, 'feel', of Killing Joke and you'd probably prefer this one.
Paul Ferguson...I cannot say anymore about this guy's drums. When they played in NYC this past weekend and to hear that sound in person was like the most brutal punch in the face. I never heard anyone so powerful sounding in my life. Can't wait for the new album next year and that new song they played "strange people from the sky"(i think that's what its called) is amazing.
I'm fuckin stuck in Taiwan and am desperate to know more.....did they limit themselves to the first 2 lp's...or will Ferguson play the later( most recent) stuff too? My god this is on par with the second coming !!! ONLY MORE IMPORTANT !
No Ferguson is their permanent drummer, he played everything. To give you an idea the first night they played: 1. Requiem 2. Wardance 3. Tomorrow's World 4. Bloodsport 5.Complications 6. SO36 7. Primitive 8. Love Like Blood 9. Eighties 10. The Fall Of Because 11. Tension 12. Unspeakable 13. Who Told You How? 14. Butcher 15. Madness 16. Exit 17. Follow the Leaders 18. The Wait 19. Pssyche ENCORE 20. Change 21. Timewave(new song out next year!) 22. The Pandys Are Coming 23. Empire Song
The second night: Wardance /Change Are You Receiving?/ PSyche whiteout /exorcism millennium /labyrinth black moon /turn to red communion/ money asteroid/ the wait pandemonium/ 80s madness ..definitely not limited to just the albums they said they were gonna do as you can see.
@elgrano He was then. No more. Sounds like any other standard rock drummer. He used to down tune, that's why it sounds tribal. Now it's standard tuning with mushy reverb. Fact. :) What would you know? :)
I don't consider him to be one of the best, but consider him to be one of the best live drummers yesterday and today because of how powerful he plays. I never heard anything about standard tuning or mushy reverb. Is this fact for sure? Whatever it is, he still plays with intensity as does the rest of the band.
This is from belgian TV from a show called Generation 80. Probably in october '81. They also did "Unspeakable" on it. Killing Joke should make a decent compilation of old videos such as these.
All the sets they play today, I've never seen Exit..but the great news is now that they've announced their original line-up reunion, I heard they will be playing a set that's gonna consist of the the first two albums which is great news....and FINALLY great to hear their comin to NYC!

I think every band fell victim to pre-recorded performances on TV...Joy Division probably didn't...who knows.

This is such a good song, the manky quality actually makes Jaz's performance scarier. Dark and glorious.
CaligulasQuestion 4 years ago
does anyone have the "Unspeakable" performance from this show as well? thanks!

Shame there isn't a lot more better quality footage of earlier band performances.

Looks like a lip-synch, and sounds like the studio version minus the barking dogs...TV is always so hit and miss.

Manky quality just validates the whole performance. Jaz taking Mental to the sublime. Makes me shiver.
