I have always figured that the requirement of having a license to be married was unconstitutional. Not only should the state not involved with who gets married or not, it cannot govern under church thought or concept. Once the state is involved with your marriage assets, it can be involved with all your assets, it's also very hard to unhook the state once it has melded. Remember this during tax season. Where does the bible say it's unlawful for a man or woman to engage in same sex relationships?
I learned that God's laws are not meant to shun or alienate people, they are meant to liberate you. The heart of God is the law. Teacher, which is the great commandment in the law? How did Jesus respond? 'You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.' This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like it: 'You shall love your neighbor as yourself.' On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets' (Matthew 22:35-40).
using the same logic you have used to defend homosexuality such as the person is more than the label you put on them, does that mean Osama been laden is a good person? Homosexualtiy is a psychological disorder, and if you read the history it was a real condition in the medical books, the government and verious groups had it removed but it doesnt take away the fact that its what it is, you can call chizophrenia normal but its is still chizophrenia.
Are you a psychologist? No. Do some people have a problem with gender identity? Of course. Your blanket statements and judgements of others doesn't follow the Bible I read. Could homosexuality be a preference? Think of the women you find attractive. Not every man is going to find the same women attractive, and the same goes for the opposite sex. Even though I do not agree with you, thanks for your thoughts and comment. Have a good weekend.
I dont follow the bible, i follow the quran thank you very much! I didnt come here to argue but many people are ignorant about this gay thing that they say this: scientists say that its natural, its genentic, etc!! and any religious group saying other wise is a FANATIC, DOGMATIC, its like in contemporary culture means to do every thing vulgar, be pornigraphic, disrespect your mom/dad, etc and its COOL! i am here to tell you to research this "scientific" findings and you will see that its false
@moorejr1400 I don't suppose you could link me to the reputable scientific websites you found supporting your point of view? By the way, even the ancient Greeks complained about the disrespect of their teenagers; it's nothing new. Porn's been around for centuries too. The Romans had orgies. These things are not contemporary.
@moorejr1400 "i am here to tell you to research this "scientific" findings and you will see that its false " What is your research? What did you uncover?
My own personal belief is that marriage of any kind is just a construct created to protect assets and to attain status. As a nonbeliever in the bible, i decided to start reading it recently, i found leviticus fascinating and i now know that no-one is following the many many laws of god at all, they are merely picking and choosing parts that suit them. We are bisexuals, brought up as repressed heterosexuals this is the fundamental issue, and where do these traditions hail from, the bible!
In the Unitarian denomination of Christianity, we don't have a set of beliefs, so you're allowed to formulate your own views. We don't follow dogmatic creeds and believe no religion can claim an absolute monopoly on the Holy Spirit or theological truth.
Some Unitarians believe that the Bible is not absolute, because it was written in part by man (gospels, as a for instance), so therefore may not be correct in all aspects.
cheers shalindriaharam, i'm gonna look into the unitarian movement more so now. If you can see that some of the bible is subjectively written by man then perhaps you might wonder whether it all is and further that God is a metaphor for nature in essence. The omnipotent, omnipresent force that gives and takes life.
As for your relationship with your mom, its healthy to break away from an abusive relationship, dont feel guilt because it will help her too :)
"if you don't like the freedom of voting that we all share in."
I like the freedom of voting. I love it. But I don't like narrow minded fanatic religious people who can't let others live their life in peace because they are the only ones who are right.
"I like to make up my own mind based on my own convictions,"
What? Your own mind or your indoctrinated religious mind?
You stood up for what you believed just as I did, so then I guess you are fanatic and narrow minded as well, just not religious. I made up my mind to follow Jesus Christ and our Heavenly Father and their word which is scripture. If religious is supporting those beliefs then I guess I am.
The difference is that "my belief" doesn't include the harassment of others. "My belief" can totally exist without homosexuals living, loving, marring!
Like I said I voted on my convictions and with my family in mind, call it what you will but I know that I did what this country was founded for, I voiced my opinion. My life is no better than the next person's but my marriage is ordained of God, because it is between a man and a woman. They are still living their lives without the distintion of "married."
Ok, I'm a sinner. My mother and I haven't spoken in 3 years because of circumstances neither one are in control of (she's abusive, I don't want to be abused). So, because I'm not obeying my mother I'm just as much a sinner as a gay man. Do I not deserve the same rights as anyone else? And if two lesbians are doing something behind closed doors, how is it harming your religious beliefs? And isn't it wrong to impose your views on someone else? Gays should sacrifice their love life for you?
If it's behind closed doors then this would not be an issue but when it spills into our streets and society it is an issue. I still think it's a sin behind closed doors but when my children see it is when I feel the need to become involved. I know there are things in the world I don't agree with but my children shouldn't be exposed to it until they are mature. I am a christian and will support my beliefs to anyone whether they be the nicest person in the world or the scum of the earth.
Backing down from my convictions would be allowing my family to become infected with doubt, I am the head of my house and will protect them against any and all things, including seeing others purposely sin. You "think" I don't do all other things christian, you have no idea who I am and what I do, but yes I do strive to do all things christian within my power, and strive for my family to do the same.
Yes she does actually, we do it together. She follows me and I follow her when the time presents itself. Keep on judging me, you are only showing how desperate you are to defame someone standing up for their beliefs. My wife and I govern our house together but it is my responsiblity to make sure that her and our children are properly raised and cared for.
You know what I dislike about "religious" people? That it never seems possible for them to live their lives without voting against others or harassing, hurting, killing others. This is not being "religious", it's being fanatic and narrow minded.
Right standing up for what I believe is fanatic and narrow minded, you're right, why can't we just live in a totalitarianism where someone makes our minds up for us. Oh wait, that started WWII, go live somewhere else if you don't like the freedom of voting that we all share in. I like to make up my own mind based on my own convictions, but if you want to be told what to do then don't participate in our democratic process.
No one is doubting there are good homosexuals out there, however, any christian who reads the Bible knows that it is a sin. To vote to allow gay marriage is to vote to allow sin into the world (I don't want that on my conscious when the time comes). I will stand as firm as I can against what I believe to be a sin and if necessary VOTE not to allow such practices into our society. Gays have the right to be gay but I also have the right to choose what I want allowed into the nation I live in.
"I don't want that on my conscious when the time comes"
But you can live with all other things on your conscious? What about violence in hetero marriages? Did you vote against that? Or children abused by hetero parents? That's a sin! Fight against that and don't vote against good people who do no harm to no one.
If it was put to a vote, obviously I would. I'm simply stating that when it comes down to standing up for my beliefs then I am going to do so, even when voting. I'm not voting to say that these are bad people who should be cast out of our ranks, I'm saying that I believe marriage to be between a man and a woman as defined by God, if I'm wrong for supporting God then I refuse to be right. Good people can still sin but I do not want it "legalized."
Uhhh, yeah they do, if and when it were or is put on a ballot they do fight against it. I didn't say it was alright to sin, I said that good people still sin. Are you so ignorant as to think that most (as I cannot speak for all) christians support child abuse, get real. Families are the center of the world, everything begins and ends with families, so of course they would vote against child abuse. Members of the same sex cannot produce a child by themselves, same sex marriage is not natural.
"Are you so ignorant as to think that most (as I cannot speak for all) christians support child abuse, get real."
I made the experience that "fine christians" like you who like to talk about the sins of OTHERS mostly are bigger sinner themselves and therefore I think that they should look at themselves first and when they find themselves perfect they shall come back to look at others.
Then try having a child with a member of the same sex without assistance, it's not possible, hence not natural. I never said I was perfect, but I do not live in my sin. When I sin, I repent, ask forgiveness, and forsake the sin to the best of my ability. I never sin with the intention of sinning that same thing again. If gays do feel they are sinning they should forsake it, not live in it.
Ok, question. My mother is abusive, so I don't talk to her. I don't obey her, BOTTOM LINE. I am a sinner because of it, but I can't help it. Who wants to be abused? Do you think homosexuality was a open topic 2000 years ago? My best guess would be no. And another thing, how does one control who they are attracted to? Is it a sin to be attracted to someone? just curious
Obviously in the case of abuse there are reasons why one wouldn't associate with their family which is understandable and God understands as well. He would never want someone to subject themselves to that sort of thing when it can be avoided. Listening to parents who are making the right decisions and love and support their family is the right thing to do but not when the parents are not good people.
Whether or not homosexuality was an open topic 2000 years ago doesn't really matter because it's still addressed in the Bible, even if it was taboo. It is not a sin to be attracted to someone but to act on those feelings is a sin. I do feel that someone can control who they are attracted to, to a degree, and with prayer, studying the scriptures, and maybe even counseling, I think it can be controlled, that's just my perspective though, nothing more.
