  • I tried quite a few of the factors explained here, however I must say that nothing compares to DietOramy eating plan relating to well being and body mass elimination - browse google, there is loads of no cost data...

  • Very nice.

  • thanks for this! great vid! I also have been working out to lose weight. But using a program I found in a website. Getting leaner is the best look so far! You know the Hollywood look? You can check my profile to see the website. Youtube won't let me post it here.

  • @Amiel912 1. Growth takes time as well as fat loss 2. Individuals grow at different rates 3. Caloric needs and fat utilization differentiate from person to person. You have to do what works for you, he's just dispelling the overcomplicated myths of getting in shape that are made up to get you into expensive gym memberships and magazine subscriptions. The best, and most annoying, way for you to measure your caloric needs is by monitoring your body changes with different CONSISTENT diets over time

  • I think you are wrong. I tried that and it doesn't work.

  • @Amiel912 Diet being what you consume, not bullshit 0 carb diets or things of that nature.

  • So if I push myself everytime so hard in every work out, it's bad for me?

    I am 9% body fat

  • @Kevinorly Until you start feeling bad and are not performing as well as your previous workout, then I wouldn't worry. But if you start feeling wasted and overtrained, you either need to eat a little bit more for energy and/or rest more to recover. 9% bodyfat is good! I'm 10.9%.

But you have to be careful you don't loose too much more too fast, as 9% is pretty low - as long as you continue to do weights to maintain or increase your muscularity you'll be fine. Just eat well and get good rest.

  • Hello, Try intellectus 424 diet (Search on Google). I have lost lots of the fat it is the best diet I have ever tried.

  • But how can you build muscle without getting the protein you need. I have a good upper body, all I need to get rid of is the love handles and the fat under my belly button. How can I tone that down while gaining muscle?

  • @AJMorgillo Remember, you need protein but just not that much. All that extra protein doesn't build any more muscles and just adds extra calories.

  • yeah ul gain muscle but NOT MASS

  • Lol,little to no body fat, hardly a problem here in america, that made me laugh haha.

  • Your body will burn muscle before it burns fat IF it needs it as that is where the nutrients are .

  • Steve, this has just been a pain for me to find. Is it possible to have an email of yours so that I can ask my question and explain to you what I am doing in my workout?

  • @xISIolDieIRIx Call my radio show next Saturday morning and I'll your questions. 1-866-826-1340 Saturday 9-10 AM Florida time. TanTalk1340 com

  • So if you're lifting pretty heavy say 8 rep max on your exercises, are you able to MAINTAIN muscle while losing fat from the deficit?

  • @Schwarzenegger667 Absolutely. That's how muscle building is done.

  • Ok so at the moment I am doing 50 mins of Cardio per day, weights everyday but different areas everyday. By this I mean I do Biceps/Upper Back, Chest/Triceps, Legs on different days. I am not taking in many calories through meals anymore, in fact most days I skip lunch. I eat basically a bowl of cereal, drink a lukozade light active and several low carb high protein whey drinks (3 a day) with a varying evening meal. Is this sustainable and will this lead to weight loss/ increased muscle mass.

  • @Lostrocker It depends of what kind of shape you're in.

  • @BodyPerformanceTV Sorry for the double post, I am 6,2 and weight 15 stones/ 95 kg, I think that is roughly 210 lbs. I will try to describe my current body shape, I feel and people say I am quite muscular, my torso is pretty lean with only a thin layer of fat, however due to exams I stopped gyming for a few months and this has resulted in my gaining weight around my theighs and buttox, these seem to be my natural fat storage points. I am fairly fit do cardio at least once a day.

  • @Lostrocker I also host a BlogTalkRadio com show. You can listen there or on iTunes. Search Steve Turano. Recent shows can be heard on my site home page at the bottom once they upload. • @BodyPerformanceTV

    Just answer his question ffs

don't advertise ur show on every comment that you reply to lol

i love ur vids, it's just annoying to see you advertise ur 'radio show'

  • how many grams of protein and carbs do i need a day?

    i am 5'7 195 17 years old.....

  • @The52warriors I've answered that numerous times on my BlogTalkRadio (.) com show. You can either listen there or on iTunes just search Steve Turano. The most recent BlogTalkRadio shows can also be heard on my website home page (at the bottom) once it uploads. I also host a Sat. morning radio show from 9-10 am EST on 1340 am Tan Talk radio which I also upload to iTunes. • @The52warriors or just get the answer from me... approxmatly 190 grams of protein.

  • show a video of how to gain weight, and slow your metabolism, i hate my fast metabolism!

  • @smeatonx no way man you dont want to slow your metabolism down you would be at risk of getting fat.

  • if I run a calorie deficit won't I burn muscle as well as fat?

  • @XIPM3 NO! You only lose muscle if your calorie deficit is too large for too many days continuously. Keep it to about 400-500 per day...and you'll be fine. You should be losing weight at about 1 lb. per week. Also, if in the process of the diet you do lose a bit of muscle, you will be regaining it and rebuilding it as you lift weights over time. So just go slow and you'll lose your fat.

  • @XIPM3 you won't lose muscle, not as long as u get enough protein THROUGHOUT the day, and that means u also need carbohydrates so ur body can use the protein well.

  • Once again he knows nothing!! Its called recomp and while its not a myth its almost impossible to gain muscle and lose fat at the same time. When calories and carbs drop you cant do as much weight and you start to shape the muscle not build. You cant possibly put as much muscle as you want went you are low on calories just like you cant lose fat when eating a ton to put miscle on. Thats why thier are mass products and lean products. YOU CANT DO BOTH!!!!

  • @jummatth

Its probably possible when you first start lifting and I feel like thats the crowd that Steve tries to attract. I have never been able to run a calorie defecit while gaining muscle at the same time. I'm also nowhere near 10% bf either. Once the newbie gains run out I have found that its much easier to focus on either losing fat or gaining muscle. I remember when steve was basically bashing weight loss supplements and now I keep hearing him trying to sell his.

  • Hey steve, I know you always say that intense muscular contraction builds muscle but what if i do push ups and pull ups for my workouts? will they help me build mass?

  • @D4rkLee It will help in the beginning definitely. But eventually you'll have to add more resistance. Theres also more great info on my BlogTalkRadio show. Go there search & Steve Turano. The show can also be downloaded from iTunes. The most recent shows can also be heard on my website home page (at the bottom) once they upload. Tell a friend! ~Steve

  • @BodyPerformanceTV Alright thanks a lot steve. You have no idea how helpful your videos have been and how many questions it has answered for me. I have one problem which i have been stuck on. I am at 14% body fat and i want to decrease to around 8 to 9% for abs and i have been doing 20 min of cardio everyday, also workout 6 times a week with heavy weights but my body fat has not decreased. Should i decrease my calorie intake by 500 each day?

  • @D4rkLee I answered your question on my 4-26-10 BlogTalkRadio show. Go to BlogTalkRadio and search Steve Turano. The show can also be downloaded from iTunes. The most recent shows can also be heard on my website home page (at the bottom) once it uploads. Tell a friend!

    ~Steve

  • @BodyPerformanceTV Thanks a lot. Been a great help.

  • @D4rkLee If u think ur over-training, try working out 5 times a week, but instead, do cardio for 30 mins, or a lil more. Your body starts burning fat after at least 20-25 mins of cardio, so that's when u'll really be losing fat. Good luck.

  • i agree but at the same time i do not agree. although it is true with the metaphor the car fuel, the body still needs a certain amount of energy type to run proficiently through out the day. watching the vid gave me the impression that one could lose more fat and gain muscle by simply creating muscle deficit.

What about the negative effect of ketosis buildup, when your body lacks enough carb breakdown and turns to protein and converts it into fat.

  • so if i find myself still running without getting tired even though i didn't eat much food i'm actually burning fat????

  • how would i be able to lose chest fat and all over fat plus gain muscle mass rather fast im up for most thing i got weights in my room and i got to the gym

  • Sooo you eat 1500 calories and then you go to the gym or something and burn off 2000 calories a day? That seems kinda hard. When I do cardio either running on the tredmill or using the eliptical I burn about 500 calories per hour. How can I speed it up so I can burn 2000 calories for my workout?

  • wait i dont get it.. so you cant gain muscle and lose fat or you can ?

    how?

  • @nashisbeast1 You can!

  • @nashisbeast1 U can, but u need to workout and for a certain amount of time too. Your body will burn fat after 20-25 mins of exercise, so if ur running, try running for at least 30 mins.

  • and then nothing else for a daily average of 2000 calories. Person B eats 5 meals per day at exactly 400 caloires per meal for the same daily average intake. My thinking is that they should both end up weighing the same, but Person A should end up with more fat because of an excessive intake.

  • Here's a question about fat I have been thinking about...

Obviously fat loss/gain is a continuous process.,,,

Analogy: Person A has a maintenance intake of 2000 calories per day. Every day Person A eats 2 huge meals (1000 calories each)

  • and then nothing else for a daily average of 2000 calories. Person B eats 5 meals per day at exactly 400 caloires per meal for the same daily average intake. My thinking is that they should both end up weighing the same, but Person A should end up with more fat because of an excessive intake.

  • and then nothing else for a daily average of 2000 calories. Person B eats 5 meals per day at exactly 400 caloires per meal for the same daily average intake.

  • Following this (during the long period before the second meal) some fat is lost but also muscle whilst person B accumulates less fat and is regularly feeding muscles and ongoing bodily needs. Is this theory bolony or am I on the right lines?lol

  • Hey bro,

Listen i hope you can help me. Im a skinny enough guy but i have a body fat of 20%.... i wanna lower this to about 10% and gain muscle mass.

My problem is that people keep telling me to gain muscle u need to 250-500 calories extra for your muscles to grow?

I presumed that if u wanna lower your BF% u need to lower your calories??

Is this true.... or is it ok to lower calorie intake because its taken from body fat and gain mass???

Sorry, im a beginner but awful confused! cheers

  • @hakametal Just start lifting consistently and watch the amount of junk you it. This will make a world of difference but you have to be patient. Also, theres also more great info on my BlogTalkRadio show. Once there search Steve Turano. The show can also be downloaded from iTunes. The most recent shows can also be heard on my website home page (at the bottom) once they upload. Tell a friend! ~Steve

  • Love it... good clear cut and dry advice.

  • @HellUnderMe05 Thank you!

  • hey steve, can you make a video on what happens when you no longer work out anymore mantaining your ripped, leaner body? what happens to your muscles if you dont work them out anymore?

  • bullshit, i didnt gain A SINGLE pound of muscle when i was weight training and on a caloric deficit, if anything i lost weight... and fast. i dont believe in all bulks, but i believe that you must provide your body with extra energy seeing as you cant build muscle (an anabolic process) while your body is in catabolic mode (breaking down process), losing fat and gaining muscle only occurs if you are a noob at resistance training, once you become experienced... not so likely.

  • sorry i dont buy this one.... if you dont eat more than enough of the nutrients your body needs its just going to waste your muscle away and certainly not build any under any circumstances

  • .....and you'd be wrong.

  • so is stored calories stomach fat?

  • @jbird9393 pretty much yes, but stomach fat is the wrong word to use. Body fat is a better choice of words, since fat is stored throughout the whole body. depending on your body type you will store it in different ares, but this doesn't really matter. Burn up more calories, and your body fat will decrease

  • Comment removed

  • So basically eat a little less and exercise.

  • There's nothing like an added layer of fat on top of muscles to create the " feeling" of increased muscle size. You see this in every gym from one end of the country to the other. If they actually took a DEXA scan, they'd be quite surprised to see that NO lean hard muscle mass has been gained in their eating expedition. I WISH muscle could be gained that way, I consume 5000 calories a day until I had my desired muscle mass. Then I'd just trim up a bit for few weeks and take the GOLD!!

  • Ya well I gained twice the muscle on bulking and eating 4000 calories a day in two months than in 6 months trying to lose weight and gain muscle . I got pics to prove it .

  • Yeah that's bullshit. You either didn't keep good journals of your progress,...or you daily caloric deficits were too large. If you gained this muscle while packing on fat,...wait until you have to lose the fat. You'll lose all this " extra " muscle you feel you've gained.

  • Lol . No your wrong .

  • Look into bulking and cutting phases before saying what I did was bullshit . Jesus....

  • How do you know you gained ANY muscle in two months,...let alone " twice " the muscle you gained in 6 months? Maybe you lost muscle in the 6 months,..or gained none at all. Gaining muscle has nothing to do with eating.

  • Gaining muscle has nothing to do with eating ? wow dude i'm sorry but you gotta research :/

  • No, the research is complete..long time ago. Eating and calories has more to do with bodyfat reduction or gain in regards to bodybuilding. Only If a bodybuilders diet is SO low in calories and protein and carbs, (while being extremely low in bodyfat), that he doesn't have enough to fuel workouts and/or repair muscle; and I've never met that bodybuilder, because he doesn't really exist. ANY normal lifting athlete is taking in more then enough protein and calories for all needs. Forget "bulking."

  • actually your the first person I see who says that calories has nothing to do with getting muscle . Anyway everybody is entitle to their opinion . I beleive in bulking cause ive gained more muscle that way . So keep thinking whatever you want , basicly .

  • couldn't have said it better myself

  • Thankss

  • If you wanna lose weight fast, do what I did

Go to fatburner. cz. cc and learn how to lose weight easy and quickly!

    :D

  • D: I Work Very VERY HARD!! What should i do??

I feel i want to puke each time .. and i kinda loose my appetite, but i also eat allot before and after.

  • Steve. I'm a great Korean fan of yours. I am dying to know this. So if i go to the gym, work out very intensely, and do not eat after it and go right to sleep, i am still going to get those muscles repaired using the fat in my body?

    - Chris

  • YES!

  • Hello Steve.

I appreciate your comments. I just want to know. Is it true that body burns the muscle first then bodyfat?

    Alex

  • No. It's not true. The body burns fats, then carbs,, then proteins, then muscle.

  • I am terrified of high intensity cardio.I will build mass/definition and lose the chubby.

I eat 5 or 6 meals a day but still im just confused.

  • Steve answered your question on his 12/14/09 version of his Blog Talk Radio Show. The show can either be heard on Blog Talk Radio or on iTunes.

    Josh Stevenson

  • Josh, have you assumed the role of being Steve's secretary?

  • @p90x4lifewaswrong I was just trying to help him. I was listening to Steve's radio show and happened to have this video opened in another video. If it's such a problem, I'll stop doing it, but I'm just trying to tell people their questions have been answered.

    Josh

  • @keyscoob Sorry! That came across the wrong way brother! It was just a joke!

  • Oh thanks! I'll check it out.I learned alot from Steve and his explanations and information is awesome.

  • @BodybuildingLion1984 eating 5-6 meals a day turbo charges your metabolism makeing your body think it needs to be constatly digesting /breaking down food.. so u burn fat...as well because your metabolism runs 24/7 and u get enuf protein to gain muscle... so yea thats how it works.. my coach explained it to me

  • Thanks brownunit.......my goal is to increase muscle size and keep body fat low but everytime I do a light jog....the fear of losing muscle haunts me once again.

Its all in my head lol.

  • Steve,

    become a beachbody coach!!

  • Hm! That's really interesting!

  • Fat storage!! Lift weights to build muscle, create a calorie deficit.... of say 400 or so less then you burn. It will will burn stored calories a.k.a....BODYFAT!!

  • Hey when your body goes into a calorie deficit, such as burning 2000 calories and only eating 1500 cals worth, does the body immediately tap into fat cell storage or muscle protein storage? I hardly have any muscles and don't want to lose it.

  • No Trybogus, you don't become catabolic when you run out of calories. You begin a state of caloric deficit. If the deficit does not exceed 400-500 cals daily, you will not become catabolic and your body will reach for fat stores. If it goes much beyond 500 calories...day after day, your body will start to set off alarms that you might be starving. It will then switch to muscle as a fuel source to preserve fat for brain and organ function for survival during what it perceives to be starvation.

  • isn't it that you become catabolic when you run out of calorie, so your muscles are burned for energy first before your body goes after the fats for energy.. so, it's like you're not really going to build that much muscle bec. those muscle previously gained will be wasted..

  • I can attest that it IS possible to lose fat and gain muscle at the same time. Lift heavy weights every other day, and do cardio on your off day while maintaining a slight 500 calorie deficit.

  • hey steve i have just started trying to gain muscle without gaining fat at the same time. Im 19, my bmr is about 2400 cals and i burn around 700 calories a day. ive only been eating 2200 calories but they are highly nutritous calories im getting heaps of vitamins, nutrients, protein, carbs, fibre, and good fats. im eating foods like oats, mixed beans, cottage cheese, salmon, cous cous, lean steak, tuna, lentils, yogurt etc. Training 3 times a week. will i still gain muscle?

  • There is no specific exercise. Time to start watching what you eat, do cardio 3-4 times a week and this will take care of it. It's just extra fat located on the chest.

  • steve i am 18 176 and 5' 8' and i want to lose my chest fat what do i do?

  • You'll lose additional fat as the run will elevate your BMR for many hours afterwards. Aerobics like easy runs and walks will also get your bodies appetite mechanism under control. You'll probably eat cleaner and a bit less because of it. The more you get in shape, you find that you'll add more time to your run. Even an extra 5 minutes means something. I generally WALK for an hour 4 times a week. That's about 1200 calories burned walking per week. Walking adds up and leans you out big time.

  • You're getting bigger because you're putting on muscle. You're probably getting bigger in the right way, that is, not bigger in terms of bodyfat. 15 minutes of running is not enough to strip muscle away. Runs will also add a bit of muscle to your hamstrings, calves, and feet. 15 minutes of running will burn about 100 calories or bit more. That will add up over time as long as your diet stays about the same. Do that for a few months and you'll lose a 3-4 pounds of fat from the exercise alone.

  • heeey i run like 15 minutes every day and i do weights im getting much bigger than thiner why is that? and what can i do?? thanks guys!

  • After 30 min of jogging fat starts to burn. 15 min does not burn any fat. You only sweat body fluids. Run over hour at time. Maybe 10 kilometers.

  • youve put on a bit of muslce but ur not doing enough cardio, and you might be eating too much - dont take shakes if you are fat

  • A Cheetah can run around 70 mph. It can only run this fast for about 30 seconds though. I always sprint until I throw up or exhaust, and my distance improves each time. It is less time consuming, so boredom is not an issue, and by giving it your all each time, your all increases each time. I like my muscle memory to be explosive, and jogging has seemed to confuse my muscles.

  • no problem in america,,, LOL////@@@@

  • Im confused, I was told running strips off muscle mass from your body

So thats counterproductive right? what do i do??

  • Your body usually burns the calories you consume, if it has already burned the food, then it burns fat, then muscle. If you are a person with very little to no body fat, then that could be true once your body runs out of food energy.

  • Comment removed

  • Thank you!

  • you're the best steve! i'm headed over to your website now!

  • is burning about 500 calories per day after doing normal weight training and eating about like 700-800 calories a day good? I weigh about 209 not all muscle ofc but I'm also about 5'11 or 6 ft and I'm 16

  • No man you need way more then 700-800 calories a day! Specially when you are burning 500 calories in a high intensity workout. EAT UP!

  • What my newest video. You might learn something.

  • You are SO wrong! It isn't physiological possible. Only if you are really out of shape and overweight.

    Stop fooling people!

  • I looks pretty good. Now it's just doing it consistently and then give it time.

  • I eat protein per lb body weight, 140g carbs and 24g of fats and I eat every 2-3 hours.

I workout 4 times a week I do four sets 8-12 reps in weight training and I do 30 mins cardio at the end will I lose fat and gain muscle from this training and diet plan?

  • bro you gotta do cardio before weights to raise your heart rate at the begining.this will warm up the muscles and and give them enough blood and oxygen and also raises hormone levels like adrenaline and testosterone

  • Yeah I do 10 minutes cardio before weights as a warm up and the cardio that I do is at a slow pace then after my weight session I do 30 minutes cardio which is even more intense then doing the warm up cardio.

  • oh aight i was gunna say......

  • Should skinner guys try to gain weight along with muscle mass, instead of trying to lose FAT and gain muscle? I heard somewhere that it's easier to build muscle if you have some degree of fat on you. I realize that you can have body fat and still be skinny, but i'm not sure what I should do.

  • One problem with this "theory". The body will not only used stored fat for energy, but it will also become catabolic and burn muscle. You be much better off doing a "recomp" diet of maintenance calories and slowly lose fat and build muscle tissue.

  • The body doesn't automatically become catabolic when you run a calorie deficit.

  • Steve, I weight train weekdays and jog weekends about 30mins each time. I've been stuck at about 16% body fat for a while. While sticking to my current diet will jogging for longer each time create a greater deficit that will burn away the remaining fat or will it force my body to burn away muscle as well? Does the body burn muscle as well as fat with too great a calorie deficit? If so at what ratio fat/muscle? Or do I need to reach almost 0% body fat before my body uses muscle as energy?

  • Yes, more cardio will burn more fat & calories. You must have a VERY low calorie intake AND have very low body fat level before you begin burning muscle. Don't worry. Keep weight training and doing cardio. That's what I do. Don't listen to these idiots.

  • Thanks for that,

I have heaps of friends who yell at me for doing more cardio and lifting then what they think is right

    keep it up mate.

  • Thanks Steve, All your advice helps a lot. I really appreciate the fact that you've made it available for all of us on youtube.

  • You're very welcome. I hope it's helping. Please tell a friend!

  • Be more consistent watching your food intake and with your cardio. Most people begin to lose focus, start snacking or eating too much and stop doing their cardio.

  • Whats the fastest way to break a fat loss plateau?

  • Steve, I have been on a calorie reduced diet for about 7 weeks and have lost like 15 pounds but have reached a plateau in fat loss. I have only been eating about 1200 to 1300 calories a day including lots of protein and 30 to 45 minutes of cardio 5 to 6 times a week and heavy weight training 4 to 5 times a week. I let my muscles rest atleast 2 days befor working them again, but my fat loss has been at a hault for about a week and a half despite the calorie defecit and i keep my cardio a challeng

  • 15 lbs in 7 week, that's great! It sounds like you're doing everything right. A week and a half isn't much time to determine you've hit a plateau. But my suggestion would be to refocus on your eating. Make sure you're correct with your calorie total. Many times people aren't. After that just be consistent with your eating & cardio. You could try mixing up your cardio for increased intensity and less boredom. After that it's patience.

  • its cause your not doing your cardio correctley. when your run for 30 or 45 minutes it doesent improve your metabolism. the best way of exercising is interval training. ex. sprint for a minute, walk for a minute. do this for 15 to 20 minutes.

  • You need to burn more calories per week. 100 calories isn't enough of a deficit. This is because we don't eat or burn the same amount each day. Therefore you're probably not going to create that 100 calories deficit EACH day.

  • Hi Steve~~ im 178 cm height & i weight 74 kg's & im trying to get a lean muscle so is burning 100 calories weekly enough for me if i wanna burn fat without losing muscle ?

  • 10 4 eagle 1 i copy!

  • what a shame i dont understand a word because i dont speak english...i wish this kind of advices were in spanish :(

  • You migh burn a few extra calories if you ran after your weight training. BUT the MOST important thing is that you run when you want and when it feels comfortable. Doing consistently it is the most important thing!

  • thank you I UNDERSTAND SO MUCH NOW

i been lifting for bout a yr

and now want to loose the bit of fat on my stomach :(

    I NEED TO KNOW

SHOULD I RUN AFTER MY WEIGHT WORKOUT OR BEFORE ?

    OR JUST RUN EVERYDAY ?

    I DONT KNOW!!

  • It's really makes no difference. You might burn a few extra calories if you run after lifting but the important thing is that you do your cardio.

  • As in days focused just on running,

i thought it would be more affective to do it after weight training, as your body so warmed up

and is in fat burning mode and ready to loose dose pounds of fat.

  • Great videos! Do you have a site or an email address....I have a few more questions to ask. Thanks!

  • Sure. I said swimming is not the most effective exercise you can do for weight loss because it use mostly shoulders and arms and incomplete use of the legs while the individual is boyant. Plus MOST people can't do it hard enough or long enough to get any results. So for 99% of people walking or jogging would be easier and more effective.

  • As far as swimming goes, I swim for 40 minutes straight without touching the sides or bottom and I don't stop at all until I am finished. I go at a pretty average-hard pace for 1/2 a lap, and mild-average for the other 1/2. Is this an alright workout? I have been seeing results, but I don't know if it will qualify as a good enough cardio.

  • That's great cardio. But for most people what you're doing is too difficult for them. They are not in good enough shape to do that so walking is easier and more effective for them.

  • Either is fine. I do both.

  • Im doing Water polo 4 times a week for 2 hours at a time, im always physically exhausted after, in one of your videos you comment on how swimming is not very effection can you please clear this up for me?

  • well, how about cardio on off days?

like in between training days, or is it better to do it after the workout?

  • zztoproadster what do you mean by that.......... or maybe i just interpreted u wrong r u saying that if your body burns fat instead of carbohydrates thats not gonna make your mucles come out

    please explain

  • If your body is using fat as the main fuel source, than you have already depleted your glycogen stores, so it is gonna be extremely hard to add ANY muscle.

  • Steve, I work out and I want to repair my muscles after a work out. I eat tuna and banana after a work out, but I don't know if eating tuna and banana will be good in repairing my muscles... Anyway, what type of food would you suggest that I eat after a work out? By the way, I am not aiming in gaining mass since I already have it, but instead decreasing my fat percentage and growing my muscles.

  • The best drink for recovery after an INTENSE workout is a carbohydrate drink with a small amount of protein. But eating after a workout is not as important as your total eating during the day. Muscle repair will occur naturally. Just watch your diet, continue lifting and do some cardio to achieve your results.

  • how do you know how much calories u lose

  • Eat 1/3 less at each meal. Walk 30 minutes every day. That's 500 less calories.

  • Yes, although losing the fat and building the muscle won't happen with just one workout but it will happen over a month or so.

  • I hear so much stuff from other people on BB sites that say this is not true and you're dead wrong. But i gotta say what you say makes sense to me. What would you say to people that say you got the science wrong and want to sell your spew? Keep up the good work!

  • Thanks! You'll notice I'm not selling any miracle products or making outlandish promises.

  • That's very true. Common sense can go a long way in todays age.

  • Is this correct? Steve, please reply... Anyway, so I ate 1500 calories for the day, and I lift weights and burn more than 1500 calories, does that mean I burn fat and gain muscle? Someone please explain... :)

  • Nope. When you run a calorie deficit you lose weight.

  • This guy knows his stuff.

Im technically doing this right now lol.

Ive lost fat and gained muscle.

  • Listen to me. I'm right. I have people do it all the time!

  • Hey steve, I am so confused right now because some people say you either bulk or cut and they told me you cant do it at the same time, but then again you tell me you can do it at the same time. I'm so confused

  • Body type has nothing to do with it. Only a small amount of protein is needed for daily use (50 grams) and that includes repairing muscle. But you get much more protein than this on a regular diet even if you are running a calorie deficit. Any calorie deficit will be compensated for using body fat AS LONG AS an individual isn't too low on body fat and 99.9% of people aren't. So food (protein and carbs) and body fat are used to fuel the body while protein is used to build muscle.

  • please explain how im wrong, im sure u av alot more experiance then me but there is no way im wrong because i got my info from the most experiane bodybuilders. if im wrong n u know it then please make me eat my own words. im not trying to win an argument anymore but if u know a better way to do this then please tell me how it works. because from what i heard so far, that will not work for anyone who is not a mesomorph.

  • it may work 4 u becoz ur a mesomorph body type which means u can do anything n ur body will get huge. sorry about the language but it makes me sooooooo angry becoz i used to listen 2 u n apply it n for about 9 months i had no improvment untill i read tom venutos book n it told me everything i need to know including this basic FACT that u av 2 be in a calorie surplus 2 gain muscle.

  • the muscle will repair itself on body fat but wont grow back bigger. u av to be on a calorie surplus to grow the muscle PERIOD.wen on a calorie maintenance u supply just enough calories to ur body to stay alive, no weight loss or gain. therefore u wud av to be in a calorie surplus to make sure the extra calories goes to muscle growth. it is impossible to gain muscle and lose body fat at the same time, the processes ur body takes are exactly opposite.

  • this is bullshit, im sorry steve but it is impossible to run a calorie deficiet n still grow in muscle. the concept of a calorie deficit means that u r not supplying enough nutrients to ur body to survive so its uses body fat, which u av stated so far. if ur body has to use body fat to keep u alive, how does it know that u want the muscles to grow n where will it get the nutrients.
