hey i really like how this sound, i have a palomino v16 is it possible for me to do this on my amp? and if so i visited that page you recommend there but i cant tell what model you are using can u give me a hand pick them out?
do you loose any headroom by putting in lower wattage speakers? (im thinking of swapping out the stock celestion seventy/80 speaker for a g12h30 in my V16)
I've got a 16, with two Vintage 30's added, and built a cabinet out of very old mahogany and nice figured maple. Check out the toon C minor for.. on my page. This upgrade puts it the plexi tone range. For change. Boutique tone at garage prices. At least dirty. I want a second amp for clean.
my palomino 16 was made in vietnam and it'll love you long time...its got a celestion seventy eighty16ohm...i don't know how that compares with the tone tubby but my amp sounds great!!!people diss on crate amps all the time, but i've used 'em since i was 15 and i love them!!! they're super tough and have great overdrive

I dunno if this is similar to the V50, but thats the one I have and it sounds pretty much like any high quality tube amplifier. Much better than any solid state ive heard, including ones that costed like 4x as much!
These V series amps are the shiznizzle. I have a vintage club 2110 non reverb that I, through the external speaker jack go into a 2x12 cab with a vintage tube screamer. Exact george Lynch tone "early tone" and is incredible. best part is they can be had on ebay for like 150 bucks hahahahahahaha love it.
I am curious about the V series. I had heard that the earlier models were good. But then I heard that Crate started importing some made in Indonesia that were not good. Can someone educate me on this please?
i have a crate vfx5212 and im looking for reasons to not get rid of it. ive been told that changing the speakers wouldn't affect the sound too much. as bright as these things are, i dont know why you'd want to put greenbacks in it!! but i like each one of the different tones youve got here. maybe the trick to these amps is use single coils through them like you're doing.
Nice amp.I got a crate vintage club 6210 tube amp.And its real loud.Good solid old amp never crapped out on me.Too bad theres no vid of any on here.Maybe ill make one.
Do you recommend the Warehouse G12H and G12M clones together or a G12H 30w speaker and G12H 50w speaker to go with the V32? I want to get great overdrive tones, but keep the clean channel as clean as possible with little to no distortion
WOW that is a great sounding amp. if i got this including the greenback speakers and if i got a shop to put them in for me, how much do you think it would cost?
i have a vox ad30vt and it sounds shit!!!!! think its the speaker, i play sabbath, acdc, nirvana, led zepplin want to change the speaker out, any ideas anyone?

......your ears will have to be the judge of that. There are demos online of this same amp with greenback and with V-30s, and even a couple demos with one of each, so give a long listen (make sure you use good haedphones so you can REALLY catch the subtleties) and you will hear the differences. Do lots of homework before choosing a speaker, because a speaker can make or break your tone. It's as important as the amp. Ask people about their settings. Compare. Shop around. Also, consider hempcones.
I have a VC 5212 50 watt. I got a ticket for disturbing the peace with it. lol. It'll rip your head off. Good Amp. Should I try Celestion V30's or Greenbacks in it? I want a good vintage/modern tone out of it. Suggestions?
Vintage/Modern? Dunno what that means, but the V-30s are a bit smoother, while the greenbacks (I think) if I remember correctly are brighter and carry a little more high-mid snap. They are also known (if I am thinking of the greenbacks and not confusing them with something else) for having "tighter" bass, but also less bass overall, which is a sacrifice you have to make for the tightness. I'd say with this amp, the smooth response of the V-30s will have a nicer overall response, your ears.....
Vintage 30s let the amp's tone shine through, they don't add a ton of color to the sound. Also V30s are tighter and more glassy. Greenbacks are lower wattage and distort more than V30s when pushed. They add more mids and an overall softer sound. V30s have more of a sterile sound and an overall tighter sound.
The vintage 30s are also known for a bit of a high-mid spike, just what some amps need, the worst possible thing you can do for others. If I put a V30 or a greenback in my classic 30, it would sound like an all tube megaphone, but in a dean markley spectra 212, one of each is the way to go. I have the internal speaker wires in my C30 soldered to a 1/4" jack, and I am using a 2x15 cab made o solid pine with old jensen P15Rs. Alnico mags, small voice coils, 15" seamed cones, and it's all smooth.
More people need to check out these amps with a good speaker. Thanks for the vid. The Crate name scares people away but I got my a Crate V1512 just for a beater amp and use the dam thing all the time. haha Once I put a V30 in it it was ready to rock.
definitly things as big as AMC autotoriam theater seating
Also i have heard people playing with half stacks down the shore, and this can easaly do the same because of its Class A watts, think about it even if you have to crank it up alittle more than them its a tube amp so it will sound loads better
Thanks, for the info. I going to buy my first tube amp. They selling the palomino 32 head & 2x12 cab for $800, its more expensive because I live in Mexico, but round a budget of 800 $1000 what all tube amp would you recomend?
I bought one of those..made in Vietnam (where John f******* Kerry served!) the first one was bad, the next one too, but the one I got now sounds okay stock...I think the tubes are crap though. may need better brand .
Has a real nice sound off my tonelab running into the Line in.
This combo amp sounds soo much better than other ones. My name is Britany Kleckner. I get good grades, and my parents give me 10 dollars each week. So in two months i will be able to afford your guitar and amp :)
i have the v50 (got it for 335 new shipped from music friend!) and i use it weekly live and its great! i cant believe its this great! and i was really happy with how heavy it can get. itll do metal tones easy without pedals or mods. get one while there cheap!!!
What do you think of the warehouse reapers? The normal 30 watt and if you know the hp 50 watt version! I usually not a big greenback fan and the reapers are a g12h30 and considered a greenback on steroids! Tell me what you think! I am wanting to upgrade a crate vintage club 30 what this polomino is modeled after. Also a valveking for a tight more bassy and versitile sound, not a sooped mids sound though. Tell me what you think please!!!
Also, had mine for 3 years and absolutley no problems, only had to change Power and Preamp tubes once. I also tend to like the stock preamp tubes better then say NOS RFT, NOS Tesla or NOS Mullards. The only difference in volume from say a 50 watt head to 100 watt is a couple of decibels, trust me the 30 is plenty loud. I overpower my whole band with it (1 guy-2 hot rod dlx's, drums and pa'd bass rig) I think we hit 112.6 dB at practice and I had it 1/3 way up (still too loud for them haha )
Ya you can go with a mid to higher end Marshall or Orange for their respective sound, but fo the money and even 2times the price Id most likely stay with the American Crate. Its kinda like a Vox/Fender/Marshall combination, plus if you upgrade a Mercury Magnetics Output Tranny and Choke will make it sound even better. Only things I would consider selling it for would be Bad Cat HotCat or T.Miranda Drive n' Sync
I went looking for a good clean tone amp to go with my Mesa Dual Recto Trem-O-Verb Head and I ended up selling it becuase I loved how the V32 Palomino (American) sounded, a friend bought one cuz he loved my sound, sucks for him, it was a Vietnam one and had nothing but problems since. Yes it is self biasing with EL84 Tubes. Yeah you can do Metal with them fine, better if running a closed cab though, otherwise if you want detuned of very chunky palm mutes its a little loose.
ahhh CHINA...it s why i play with vintage tube amp...traynor ygl-3 1975...hummmmm...YES YOU CAN PLAY METAL WITH TUBE AMPS...YOU CAN PLAY ALL STYLE OF MUSIC!!!
These are not China. They are an all tube Ampeg amp made in St.Louis, Missouri. They have a Crate eblem but the originals were made by Ampeg in the USA. Now made in Vietnam.
I have a Marshall JCM 800 4010 and a Fender Concert Reverb and I guarantee you this amp can hang with either one tone wise. I have also owned a 5150 combo.
People get caught up on name recognition. My JCM is on Ebay right now. This video does this amps tone no justice. These amps have remarkable tone.
Is there a significant difference in tone between the USA models and the ones made in Vietnam? I just got a Palomino V32 just like this, except it's only got 1X12 in it, and it sounds more digital than all tube.
Vietnam not China. They are are now assembled in Vietnam. I have a V30 head and a V32 combo made in USA. They both smoke and I like them better then my Marshall JCM 800 4010.
hey, great video and playing!! what tubes are in this amp, are they the same as the v33h's, im really interested in that head and hope it sounds like this.
What guitar was you using? and wich pickup? (neck or bridge?)
I have the VFX5212 with V30 speakers and it sounds good! I play alternative rock with an Ibanez AXS32 (Gibson SG-like) with Seymour JB on the bridge and the clean its a bit much dynamic (lac of sustain: much volume difference between arpeggios and chords rithm) and the distortion lacks of bottom (I put bass and mid all the way up and treble at half). Could be the sovteck el34 on the poweramp?
i just picked up one of these for $10 (no joke) from guitar center, it was a floor model that they wanted out of there. Its Awesome, the only problem i have with it is that it does not have 11 on the volume nob
At full volume the amp is over 100dB (125dB is the pain/hearing loss threshold). Don't be fooled by Marshall's ploy of making it seem that only a 100watt amp is able to be gigged.
Great video man, this is almost exactly what I was going to do.
I'm thinking about getting the Crate V33, replacing the speakers with Warehouse Reapers or Green Berets, and then replacing the stock tubes with something with a bit more life.
I have a V50 Palamino and I want to put G12M Greenbacks in it but the celestion website recomends the G12H. I assume this is because the G12H is a 30 watt and the G12M is a 20 watt. I have seen some 25 watt G12M's out there and I'm wondering if I would be ok with these?
He actually says somewhere that they're a Greenback copy that he thinks sound better. They're called "Green Beret speakers", and the links are provided in the item description.
probally, most of these tube combos have an extension speaker cabinite jacks, my feder HRD 1x12 does and i have it running in a stack with another 1x12
Hands down killer sound. I've got the Pal 16 and I still can't stop playing it in spite of owning a Mesa 50 Express and a boutique EL84 head with 2X12 Cele Blue's on the bottom. If they're out of production I'm gonna start looking for a spare 16.
The Crate V series is the next best thing to the Palominos (discontinued). I have the V18 112. i use to have the Peavey Classic 30 but it was sterile compared to the V, unless you put in a Celestion Alnico Blue and some better power tubes.
Hi, nice test. I'm about to buy one this model of crate, but I've readed that this amp rattles at loud volume. When I tested it at the store the amp rattled and buzzed at medium volume. This is the first time I've wanted to buy an all-tube amp. All tube amps buzz at loud volume or just this model? I love the tone, but I don't want to make a bad choice.
Almost all combo's will vibrate the tubes. The speakers are inches away from the speakers and the vibrations of the cab are heavier. A separate head keeps the tubes out of direct contact with the sound vibrations. I talked to a guy that bought the new lonestar from mesa boogie. And he even complained of tube vibration at higher volumes. So it isn't just for this amp.
I agree. I've had 3 tube/combo amps in the past & they always rattle! No matter what. Especially a 1x15 combo (aka Peavey Delta Blues). Even had the tube rattler-thingy & it was still noisey.
I love the tone on these v series and palamino crate amps. I have a peavey classic 50 that also has a great tone and very reliable. My problem is I've tried 5 or 6 crate v's now and everyone of them had problems. Buzz or cutout or feedback. Love the tone but I don't trust the reliability.
Great demo. Also saw yours on the VOX AC15. I'm looking for sixties jangle and subtle crunch and will upgrade the speaker. What's your preference -- Crate or Vox?
the crate v series, i beleive sound better than the vox ac series, they new v33 actually is almost an exact copy of an ac30 but has alot of features that go beyond that of the vox
ok i have a few questions about this amazing sounding amp...how much do i need to pay for one of these amps? does it have enough power to play smaller gigs...over drums and basses etc. and is it worth the money...
they make v33 212 version which just took this and improved upon it, so yes you can still get this great tone, the new v33 212 is about 500 depending on were you go i picked mine up for 495, and yes they can play a small/medium gig without being mic'ed but if you want more juice they make a 100w head version and remember these are 30 TUBE watts so its about as loud as 120 watt solid stater
I haven't really tried a traynor, so I can't tell you anything about that. But it is 80watts so the traynor would have more headroom since it has more wattage, but still you wont see much difference in headroom if you put a traynor and the v32 next to each other and play them.
I would go for the V32 still. 80 watts is too much a killer for me.
pretty sure the v32 has 1x12. I think the v33 has 2x12 (which is linked in the description), but this clearly shows v32 label. Is this an older model or something?
You are for sure a great player, and the amp is nice to.Which preamp and power tubes do you use in this amp, stock or ?? I have a Crate V112T and likes a lot, but not without problems.
overdrive, and clean sounds so good, really twangy, honkin clean, like the best fender amp youd want, thanx for not drenchin us in reverb, o man, i like reverb, but not so much, it ruins everything, you got the touch, any amp you play through is gonna sound good, we all can tell, its like srv, or blackmore, they gonna be great no matter what amp.killer zz top sound too.
Thats a beautiful amp with awesome tone! Good work bro. Yes I enjoyed the vid demo. Now I'm looking for that amp to buy! Whoever thinks Line6 is better than this is just a silly little kid.
man who cares. I hate crate with a dying passion. but the next guy may not use nothing else but Crate. I personally LOVE! my line 6 gear and would use nothing else other than those amps.
I agree, I would use a Line 6 over any Crate anyday!!! My Crate GX212+ 120w would just start flipping back and forth between the clean and overdrive channels like it was demon possessed or something.
Crates will crap out right in the middle of your gig. "Oh Well, don't ask me what I think of you, I might not give you the answer that you want me to."
hi, i bought a crate palomino V32 also. i have a question thogh does your clean channel buzz at low and hi volumes and only stops if u touch certain metal parts of ure guitar? do u have any idea how to fix it? thnx
Bottom line, Crates are fine for screwing around in your basement but for pros, Marshall or Mesa Boogie are the only amps to use with 4X12 cabinets loaded with Celestions or JBL's depending on tone you want.
hey i really like how this sound, i have a palomino v16 is it possible for me to do this on my amp? and if so i visited that page you recommend there but i cant tell what model you are using can u give me a hand pick them out?
thanks, again great vid!!

I would save a little more and go with the JCM 200 DSL 100 half. Right now they are $1299 for the Halfstack.

This combo amp sounds soo much better than other ones. My name is Britany Kleckner. I get good grades, and my parents give me 10 dollars each week. So in two months i will be able to afford your guitar and amp :)

Tell me what you think please!!!
pastorkev777 3 years ago
Same amp I use, I love mine. 2 yrs and no problems. USA made. The greenbacks sound sweet too. Great playing.

how does this thing respond to overdrive pedals on the clean channel
aftguitar94 3 years ago
Also, had mine for 3 years and absolutley no problems, only had to change Power and Preamp tubes once. I also tend to like the stock preamp tubes better then say NOS RFT, NOS Tesla or NOS Mullards. The only difference in volume from say a 50 watt head to 100 watt is a couple of decibels, trust me the 30 is plenty loud. I overpower my whole band with it (1 guy-2 hot rod dlx's, drums and pa'd bass rig) I think we hit 112.6 dB at practice and I had it 1/3 way up (still too loud for them haha )
RVevolution 3 years ago
Ya you can go with a mid to higher end Marshall or Orange for their respective sound, but fo the money and even 2times the price Id most likely stay with the American Crate. Its kinda like a Vox/Fender/Marshall combination, plus if you upgrade a Mercury Magnetics Output Tranny and Choke will make it sound even better. Only things I would consider selling it for would be Bad Cat HotCat or T.Miranda Drive n' Sync
RVevolution 3 years ago

These amps have remarkable tone.
petsnowflake 3 years ago
Is there a significant difference in tone between the USA models and the ones made in Vietnam? I just got a Palomino V32 just like this, except it's only got 1X12 in it, and it sounds more digital than all tube.
Thanks!

yeah the new V33's are built in china and don't sound nearly as good as the USA built V30's and palominos. Buy a palomino or V3112 off ebay.

Hi, Amazing tone!!!
Help me please!
MatEffect 3 years ago
i just picked up one of these for $10 (no joke) from guitar center, it was a floor model that they wanted out of there. Its Awesome, the only problem i have with it is that it does not have 11 on the volume nob
bsawolfman 3 years ago
r these loud, being that its only 30 watts?? Do you know if the head version(v33) with a 412 would be loud enough to gig with?
apguitarguy401 3 years ago
At full volume the amp is over 100dB (125dB is the pain/hearing loss threshold). Don't be fooled by Marshall's ploy of making it seem that only a 100watt amp is able to be gigged.
MrAlmostPopular 3 years ago
Great video man, this is almost exactly what I was going to do.
I'm thinking about getting the Crate V33, replacing the speakers with Warehouse Reapers or Green Berets, and then replacing the stock tubes with something with a bit more life.
Does anybody have any suggestions for tubes?
Thanks again for the video.

Hands down killer sound. I've got the Pal 16 and I still can't stop playing it in spite of owning a Mesa 50 Express and a boutique EL84 head with 2X12 Cele Blue's on the bottom. If they're out of production I'm gonna start looking for a spare 16.
srm2k 3 years ago
Thanks for the answer. If I'm lucky I will find that amp at the store, I hope so.
6stringsMark 3 years ago
The Crate V series is the next best thing to the Palominos (discontinued). I have the V18 112. i use to have the Peavey Classic 30 but it was sterile compared to the V, unless you put in a Celestion Alnico Blue and some better power tubes.
rdrake316 3 years ago
Hi, nice test. I'm about to buy one this model of crate, but I've readed that this amp rattles at loud volume. When I tested it at the store the amp rattled and buzzed at medium volume. This is the first time I've wanted to buy an all-tube amp. All tube amps buzz at loud volume or just this model? I love the tone, but I don't want to make a bad choice.
6stringsMark 3 years ago
Almost all combo's will vibrate the tubes. The speakers are inches away from the speakers and the vibrations of the cab are heavier. A separate head keeps the tubes out of direct contact with the sound vibrations. I talked to a guy that bought the new lonestar from mesa boogie. And he even complained of tube vibration at higher volumes. So it isn't just for this amp.
mainframeking 3 years ago

Love the tone but I don't trust the reliability.

the crate v series, i beleive sound better than the vox ac series, they new v33 actually is almost an exact copy of an ac30 but has alot of features that go beyond that of the vox

ok i have a few questions about this amazing sounding amp...how much do i need to pay for one of these amps? does it have enough power to play smaller gigs...over drums and basses etc. and is it worth the money...
estock123 3 years ago
They're discontinued and the only way to get them is through ebay, or you could go with a peavey classic 30 and get a better tone.
Manu9078 3 years ago
they make v33 212 version which just took this and improved upon it, so yes you can still get this great tone, the new v33 212 is about 500 depending on were you go i picked mine up for 495, and yes they can play a small/medium gig without being mic'ed but if you want more juice they make a 100w head version and remember these are 30 TUBE watts so its about as loud as 120 watt solid stater
85raminator 3 years ago
would you reccomend these speakers for blues?
mcrob44s 3 years ago
sure, check out the tone at 2:20 and 2:40, sounds like a cool blues tone to me

Do all of you guys recommend the Palomino v32h and half stack over the Peavey Windsor???????
Please respond!!
CFox666 3 years ago
YES! with the windsor you can't get good cleans b/c it starts distorting too quick, so no headroom for clean.
You will definetly be satisfied with the Palomino halfstack.
Manu9078 3 years ago
what about a traynor ycv80? would a v32 head have more headroom? im thinking on getting either one
martian18 3 years ago
I haven't really tried a traynor, so I can't tell you anything about that. But it is 80watts so the traynor would have more headroom since it has more wattage, but still you wont see much difference in headroom if you put a traynor and the v32 next to each other and play them.
I would go for the V32 still. 80 watts is too much a killer for me.
Manu9078 3 years ago
i like that tone alot!

overdrive, and clean sounds so good, really twangy, honkin clean, like the best fender amp youd want, thanx for not drenchin us in reverb, o man, i like reverb, but not so much, it ruins everything, you got the touch, any amp you play through is gonna sound good, we all can tell, its like srv, or blackmore, they gonna be great no matter what amp.killer zz top sound too.

Bottom line, Crates are fine for screwing around in your basement but for pros, Marshall or Mesa Boogie are the only amps to use with 4X12 cabinets loaded with Celestions or JBL's depending on tone you want.
