  • When he said "It is an honor to be here representing the soldiers of World War One" I nearly started crying.

  • thank you, Sir, for doing what you do.

  • Frank has Passed.

    Last WWI Vet has died.

I play TAPS in his HONOR.

  • God bless you Mr. Buckles and all of America's veterans!!

  • he just turned 110

  • He probably changed his name to Frank Buckles to sound more olde-timey.

  • @PneubTube he disliked his given name, Wood, so he added Frank...and made his middle name "Woodruff" in honor of family members of that lineage.

  • That man is tough as nails, been through 2 World Wars fighting for our freedom and still around to tell about it at 109 years old. God bless him.

  • Is he still alive? Does anyone know how I could contact a living WW1 vetran? november 6 2010

  • @meatisdeliciouse Yes, Mr. Frank Buckles is alive and the only known World War I veteran still alive. A great man and a true hero!!!!

  • @stlgtrace AWESOME, I remamber a british vetran acouple of years ago who was agile and healthy like any other man. When he dies it will be the end of an histroical ling with the past forever. I would love to meat him.

  • @stlgtrace There are 2 other British WWI vets and one Polish one that are still alive.

  • There should either be a Call of Duty or a Medal of Honor game with "Soldier" Buckles as the main character you play based in WWI.

  • a real true american hero ive studied about him and would like to be like him im joining the army when im 25

  • This man is the definition of an American hero.

  • The last American that can truly wear the World War One Victory Medal.

  • Old Snake style He kicks every ones ass. Live on man

  • Snake is a fictional character in a Video game and this guy is a real deal you got it all wrong Snake Kicks ass Frank Style

  • THATS A TRUE HERO ....

  • Well.. "The true heroes are the ones who didn't make it back."

  • @H0llaZ1990 How do you figure?

  • @Ankido94 No, not my words, it's a quote.

  • @H0llaZ1990 Ah ye okey didnt see the quotes hehe

  • The poor guy survived the horrors of WWI only to be interred for 3 years starving and performing back breaking labor in a Japanese prison camp after Manila fell in 1942. I mean JEEZ he's had a hard life! Now that's a true American hero!

  • A true hero and an example for us all! God Bless Frank Buckles and give him 107 more years!

  • @stlgtrace Is he still alive? how many more WWI vetrans are still alive today?

  • I find it just mind boggleing how much this man has seen in the war and the world. digging back into memory of mud, carnage and death. I sincerly believe being on the front lines during that war would have been the closest thing to hell on earth. honour these men.

  • he is one of only 6 ww1 vet's still alive to this day, much respect to him, all of ww1's brave soldiers, and those storm troopers from Canada who made it all possible

  • He never forgot the horrors, bravery, cowardice, fear, carnage he saw, as he watched all those people die so many years ago, and those emotions clearly overwhelm him when he tries to say it was an honor for him to be there to represent all of his fellow soldiers, those millions who once understood what he felt. Now he is among a handful on earth. To even think about it must be overwhelmingly lonely and immensely sad for him in ways that almost nobody else on earth will ever understand.

  • Well written, he's a true hero.

  • the last french veteran died several moths ago (110 years)... and he lived the war for 4 years... vive la france

  • so so so much espect for him!!!

  • We most to keep a big place in our memory, for Frank Buckles...For those great Soldiers who fought in the Hell WW1. May you all can RIP.

  • Syd Lucas is dead now. He died about a week ago at the age of 108. Francesco is also deceased. He died a few months ago.

  • WW1 veterans still living that are older than Buckles:

    Lucas, Sydney (Syd)

    Ross, John Campbell

    Powers, Gladys

    Borroni, Delfino

    Chiarello, Francesco Domenico

    Allingham, Henry William !OLDEST!

    Patch, Henry John (Harry)

    Stone, William (Bill)

    Babcock, John F.

  • Are they from England or Australia? Because Buckles is the last AMERICAN WWI vet left alive.

  • Oldest living WW1 veteran?? Henry Allingham and Harry Patch alone are both older. Allingham was born in 1896!! They are still alive. Even mild research would help avoid false statements...

  • And those older guys also saw active service in the trenches, buckles did not. He was a driver for the french and british, not near the front line.

however the comment of the video is correct in the context of the US oldest guy

  • dosent matter he still survived they shot medics, drivers, teenagers that beeged for thare lives

  • dude its not false just the fact that he made it through hell and you are dissmissing his clames that he dosent even brag about, i mean you herd him he can barley speak properley and your telling peaple to look up things to dissprove this? dude think about wat i just said

  • What the hell are you talking about? The claim that he's the OLDEST WW1 veteran IS false. I named two who are still living that are older. What's wrong with you? What I said is very simple. I said people need to look up to disprove the claim that he's the oldest living WW1 veteran, since he obviously isn't. I hope you're drunk or something, otherwise, you need a brain transplant.

  • ok 1 you need to think of the fact that this man lived throu one the wars that had ever sufferd the casualtes and your trying to once more dissprove a fact that he dosent even brag about you might be right on the fact that he isnt the oldest but that dosent matter! and this guy is a pece of historey and we need to make sure that he is honerd throu out the ages a 1 of the WWI vetrinS (do you see the S as in prulal as in MORE THAN FREKING 1!!!!) and no in not drunk thank you vary much im 13 idot!!

  • if you are 13 then try listening to what people are saying.

    1. he is not the oldest surviving war vet

    and

    2. he was never on the front line are facts.

Stop getting so upset, we agree with all the other stuff you are saying abiut honouring him etc or we would not be here in the first place would we.

take a deep breath and read my answer again son

  • ok....sorry i got up set at you i read the answer agen and it did make a little more sense but im stiking to what i said is that ok?

  • Jesus, I have nothing against Mr. Buckles. Quite the contrary, I'd practically WORSHIP him because of his age alone. My correction is toward WHOEVER SAID HE IS THE OLDEST. That is the person that is false. What the hell is wrong with your comprehension?

  • im sorry i offended you however i am stiking to what i beleave is that he is the oldest... once I DEEPLEY APOLIGISE 4 WHAT I SAID THAT MIGHT HAVE OFFENDED YOU... thare im sorry you and me have differint belefes what you may beleave is true, i still beleave what i beleave is that ok with you?

  • Why do you believe he is the oldest WW1 veteran, when Henry Alligham is still alive??? Harry Patch is still alive. Buckles might be the YOUNGEST surviving WW1 veteran, but he's definitely not the oldest. This is a fact. Allingham was born in 1896 for God's sake.

  • sorry, but i beleave the pentigon did itss reserch, im not saying that what you beleave is false, i gust think he is the oldest, who knows mabey the sorce that you got was a little bit off with age, im not saying that its wrong but it just might be a little off P.S. i dont mean to offend you with anything i say so please dont be upset

  • HENRY ALLINGHAM. Say it with me, Professor: HENRY ALLINGHAM. He's the oldest surviving WW1 veteran. Buckles is the second-youngest... only Claude Stanley Choules is younger, by about a month. ALL NINE of the other WW1 veterans still living are OLDER THAN BUCKLES. He's the SECOND-YOUNGEST. Henry Allingham, born 6 June 1896. Buckles, born 1 February 1901. You do understand that being born 1896 makes Allingham older, right? Can you do that simple math?

  • i understand 2nd grade math, will it just help you if you i say i beleave you than wil you get off my back? i mean i sorry that i was wrong i mean really I AM SORRY THAT I WAS WRONG!!!! ok....you happy now? you want a cookie?

  • imn prettty shure were all gona believe what you say over the words of goverment historians

  • this guy is not the oldest veteran, henry allington is. Even Harry Patch is older than him, and I would know as I have met him....

It doesnt really matter to be honest, but the fact is, the pentagon got it wrong, obviously trying to make his appearance more dramatic. Why the hell do they need to do it, cant they just be honest.....

  • P.S. i DONT MEAN TO OFFENDE YOU!!!!

  • Beautiful. Positively beautiful. Thank you for serving our country.

  • god bless him

  • *claps* wow
