Lucia Whalen reported to the 911 operator that she thought one man was Hispanic and did not get a good look at the other man at all. She also said that they might live there and be locked out and mentioned that she saw luggage. (Gates just arrived home from China.)
Crowley lied in his police report and claimed Whalen saw two black men with backpacks enter the home.
There isn't a black man alive who could really claim success in America and still act on racist views. And if he can't act on his racist views, then even if he is prejudice, his racist views have no power. So you can think whatever you want about me, but if you're forced to treat me equal, then what you think has no merit.
this situation is bull...the officer should have just left the house after he figured out that Gates was the resident. Yes, Gates may have overreacted. But cussing is not a crime, at least in Mass. Everyone knows that racial profiling exists...yet, this may not be an example of racial profiling. It's an example of a person pissed off b/c someone is cussing at him. And it just so happens that that person is a cop. Both of them owe each other an apology. That's it, case closed.
To simply say Gates is a racist is drastically over simplifying his motivations for reacting the way that he did. And to be a black racist with power is practically impossible in U.S. where the black population encompasses only 13%the nation's total. Gates couldn't hardly get where he's got in life being an ardent racist. Negating historical and all psychosocial context, we'll say the most powerful black racist in the past century has been Malcolm X. And he was shot down for goodness sake.
No he got where he got by being a victim of whitey. He doesn't deserve his position just because he is black and blames whitey. That is unjust to people that work hard to get somewhere in life. This is what happens when you keep giving to people and they don't achieve on their own. They get angry because in the back of their mind they think they are getting ahead because of whitey.
Gates was NOT abusive to the officer, He simplly asked for his badge number after Gates shoed his ID thru the screen-door. The cops KNEW who Gates was the entire time and KNEW IT WAS HIS HOUSE!!!
Simply ??? Did you hear the recording of the radio tranmissions? He was yelling like a psycho! Look at his picture when he was arrested! Still yelling with his mouth wide open. That's why people were gathering in the street to see what was going on. He was yelling. Gates is an ass. Even his students confessed to that.
If you can be arrested for being an "ass" in your own property, Rush Limbaugh would have been in prison for forever by now. Ours is a nation of laws, and primacy of the individual. Not the other way 'round. 'Nuff said.
If that's your thought process and your that narrow minded then it's no wonder the US is considered by many to be a country of idiots. Now enough said....lol
"I actually just had a conversation w/ jim crowley". Why isn't he just apologizing for getting in the middle of this? Why did he feel the need to say that there was an overreaction in "pulling" professor gates out of his home to the station? Professor Gates invited himself to the station by his words and actions. He is still the officer over reacted. This is still bad for the president. He really in not qualified to be commander and chief . He is a racist.
Another obamer secret that's public record that's being kept a secret;
obamer while attending Harvard, received 17 parking violations from the Cambridge P.D. It was NOT until 1 week before he announced his run for the Presidency, did he finally pay his parking tickets. It took obamer only 18 years to finally catch up with his fines.
So..... obamer's quite familiar with the Cambridge P.D. and he may STILL have a score to settle with them!
Gates didn't do the right thing and just use a calm train of thought to settle the matter, but noooo: *Points!* OMG RACIST!
The officers weren't there to arrest him for being black, they were there to do their job-- responding to a suspected break-in.
Obama needs to realize that his position can be compromised with distrust by having slight racial bias. Calling the Massachusetts police on "acting stupidly" is bound to attract "media vultures" that keep the "carrion" around and stir things up.
Mrs. Whalen reported to the 911 operator that she thought one man was Hispanic and did not get a good look at the other man at all. She also said that they might live there and be locked out and mentioned that she saw luggage. (Gates just arrived home from China.)
Crowley lied in his police report and claimed Whalen told him she saw two black men with backpacks enter the home.
It was a Health Reform Press Release, the question should have never been asked. I was surprised when it was and I don't remember who asked it .... it would have been better off not to comment but he did, at least he is honest unlike our previous Mr. Bush.
The "stupid action" of the cop was using a wise proceedure that would protect himself and anyone who should be in the house. Gates over reacted and should not have been confrontational. Mr. President, you still need to back down a notch on this one. Welcome to the real world that prep school never prepared you to confront.
He says he was "wrong" in the words he chose, etc, but he never apologizes.

1 maybe Hispanic/1 unidentified = 2 black men
A false police report/false arrest = stupid.

Yes racist views always have power, they give the person without skill a leg up on the competition.

Prof Gates shouldn't apologize, unless if it is his choice to do so for sure that would be nice.
But, it is his home, so if I were him i would never apologize.

No you cannot be abusive to a police officer. Gates is a racist with power. A very dangerous combination.

The damning thing, and why the cops are liable for lawsuit, is the cops KNEW WHO PROFESSOR GATES WAS THE ENTIRE TIME AND KNEW IT WAS HIS HOUSE!!!
Which is majorly fucked up. Gates should sue their pants.
