  • Ha! I have those same headphones!

  • But listening to it again it doesnt sound too bad here...and its sad to see the Skinner console covered in dust. Its too bad they elected not to re-use the Skinner console shell in the rebuild.

  • Since the original Skinner console was 'modified' in the 1960's (one of the Cathedral's organists took a hacksaw and cut off part of the right-hand shell in order to 'see' the choir and nave better, and the AS rebuild in the early 1950's moved the combination machines to below the south Choir stalls so the original 1910 combination action wasn't in use), it was decided to build a new console to the original Skinner specs and style - and the new Quimby console fits much better in the organ loft.

  • And the reason the console was covered in dust was to allow the insurance adjusters to see how the 2001 fire affected the console - so no cleaning or anything else was done for insurance reasons....It took over 3 years for the Cathedral and the various insurance companies to reach an agreement on a final $ value for the organ and entire Cathedral - another very long story...

  • wow that dreadful Allen...
