  • FUCK! IM TRYING TO LEARN THIS SONG AND THERE ISN'T ANYTHING FUCKING DECNET TO GO OFF OF

  • This performance is fucking flawless. I would give a lot to see Brand New in concert!

  • great footage!! I personally applaud you.

  • nooo way. the devil and god was just a crazy transition album. deja is the brand new that original fans love.

  • @calmncollected10 hey i have listened to Brand New since deja came out, so i guess you would call me an "original fan"... but i dont think i could ever pick a favorite Brand New record. weapon, deja, devil and god, the fight off your demons demos, daisy... they are all amazing. they are all highly unique collections of art that i love to much to judge which one is best.

  • This is the only CD I have of them, but it's easily the best CD I've ever listened to. Most underrated band of all time in my book.

  • @ChocolatePoop1301 I can see that you posted this comment almost a year ago, but I really hope that you have gotten their other albums. "The Devil and God..." and "Daisy" are both masterpieces, and might even be better than "Deja."

  • @dvt1393 Thx, I'll put them on my list!

  • @dvt1393 Thx, I'll put them on my list

  • @dvt1393 Thx!

  • Deja is my personal favorite. I really enjoy the Devil and God, and Your Favorite Weapon has a couple good ones...Soco Amaretto Lime is my favorite off that album.

  • Daisy was basically a bs album to them. they wrote the whole thing while playing halo. it did turn out pretty good, but it has nothing on deja entendu. i dont think jesse could top that album.

  • @calmncollected10 he did top deja, with the devil and god are raging inside me

  • @calmncollected10 I couldnt agree with you more, deja is the best by far.

  • brand new has some songs tht sound like typical pop punk and then some masterpieces like this one. he writes in my opinion some of the bes lyrics out there and is a huge influence on me fuckin epic song

  • its me vs. maradona vs elvis...maradona was a soccer player who let fame and drugs destoy his life just like elvis and he's comparing himself to them

  • madonna you tom thumb.

  • @guntforsure its maradonna DERRRRR

  • He needs to take those glasses off. It's criminal how good he looks in them.

  • mannn try and go to a brand new show and not sing, i went to the one at san jose last friday... omg. everyone was getting into and singing... it was amazinnnnnnnnnng

  • that is the prettiest guitar I have ever seen in my life.

  • still has it, Both of the shows played in Dallas and Houston it was used quiet extensivally

  • i love this song live!!!

he usually changes the lyrics to "its family night, all the kids eat for free."

see ya oct 27th jesse. daisy is awesome!!!!!

  • jesse wears glasses? haha

  • People who bitch about his tendency to focus on new stuff are ridiculous - frankly, as much as I loved YFW, I would much rather hear them play literally every song they've wrote since that, that's how much better they've gotten. The Devil and God is easily their best record yet.. Hopefully the new one out in September will be even better :D

  • TRUE

  • deja entendu is definitely the best record

  • nah, it's their easiest to get into and poppiest record, but TDAG has way way more substance and re-listenability (if you can get into it).

  • I agree with everything you said. however, I think Daisy is now their best album to date

  • Daisy is amazing but TDAG is alot better its structure ismore intense and i feel there's more passion in it.

however Deja Entendu is personally my favourite

  • i totally agree about tdag , ive loved it since it came out but i saw them last night and it even sounds the best live. just so so good

  • i gave you a thumbs up and agree cuz all they have gotten is smarter than yfw. butttttttttt its always a treat to here the old songs.and that goes for any band in my opinion

seeing themm on halloween. its gonna b amazing

  • @Supaduck0 too bad daisy sucked :(

  • @aburnxingexample14 TOO bad you suck period!

  • @symbiot90 too bad your 12 and have to use caps in every single comment.

  • @aburnxingexample14 nah, Daisy is their most mature record and also their best.

  • It's ladies night. All the girls drink for free.

  • jesse lacey is amazingly beautiful....brand news music is just undescribable :)

  • i think you'll all find that this song is honestly just a metaphor for 'fuck up everyone and stop trying to make yourselves sound like you know the band personally. it could be about anything.'

  • be careful what you wish for

  • you're bullshit. if you respected the artists...youd know those songs still exist and always will. don't make him relive parts of himself that he no longer is just for your own selfish enjoyment.

  • hahah shut up u idiots.. i love how everyone pretends they "know" the artists and feel they have to defend them

  • Nah. He can do whatever he wants, and after all, they're his songs and don't belong to anyone else but him.

  • its understandable especially with the type of music he writes. brand new is more lyrical then instrumental so he probably finds more meaning in his songs.

  • @TCAWhat well he would argue that it belongs to the whole band just as much as him. but i know what you mean. if someone doesnt like the art get the fuck out because theyre inhibiting it

  • I agree lol. but his new music is cool as well but.. Yep

  • That was godly.

  • i love how in the studio version he barely sounds awake as he sings the song

  • my favorite song on Deja Entendu... i think. there all so amazing.

  • Amazing lyrics, the way he puts it together, idk there's something about his diction

  • this is my favorite brand new song =]

  • learn to type seriously

    god damn

    you sound retarded

  • he's jessy lacey, he's a genius i would love to be able to write like this, who ever disses him or brand new is a naive asshole

  • why be so angry and hateful? it only breeds negativity in your own life dude trust me

  • i was saying it to someone who said jesse butchered his own song

    sorry

  • i agree on the hate part..but i think anger can be a productive energy if you channel it correctly.

  • yeah it can, just listen to songs like "jude law and a semester abroad".. lol, but comments like "fuck off and die" are just silly

  • fuck you are hilarious!

  • learn how to type dude

  • Great song. I feel like this every friday night...

  • that's sad.............

  • feel like what?

  • What the hell are you talking about? That didn't even make sense.. but ok

  • This is by far their best live performance ever. This song is fucking amazing.

  • this band is brilliant i can listen to them all day

  • best.

  • this is the best song ever

  • When they come to SLOVAKIA?... I love this band

that lyrics its awesome best band on the world :)...P.S.Brand New 4ever :)

  • My favourite song by them, what beautiful words. He's a genius.

  • Same here. favourite song.

  • i am inlove with jesse lacey

this is a beautiful song, it's my favourite

    brand new kicks ass (L)

  • I'm sorry but you're a fool if you do not think that Vinny is a good writter. He may not have written as many songs as Jesse but if you take a second and listen/read the words of that song then you undoubtedly will change your mind. There is a reason its the last song heard on the album. Think about it.

  • this isn't the last song on deja entendu...play crack the sky.

  • Obviously. Vinnie didn't write this song and that was what I was referring to so make sure to read next time.

  • At concerts ive attended Jesse plays Handcuffs and always say its his favorite song on the record. Vinny is talented....Period

  • last show i went to by them was in chicago back in october and i think they only played play crack the sky and then all devil and god. i was alittle mad they didnt play anything more off deja or any favorite weapon

  • if you look on the deja entendu

it tells who wrote it, i think jesse and vinnie wrote this together.

Jesse wrote I think 5 or 6 songs on deja entendu

  • i listen to this song on repeat on my ipod when i read The Perks Of Being A Wallflower.

  • That's the best book in the world. =]]

  • no kidding.

the perks of being a wallflower is my all time favourite book.

i listened to Soco Amaretto Lime instead.

    either way,

    fantastic novel,

    INCREDIBLE band

  • I love Jesse Lacey. He is amazing. This song is so good. Vinnie wrote this song, and i love it. I just want to wrap my arms around Jesse in this video! great angle. love the vid.

  • did vinnie really write this? i never knew that.

  • yeah...

someone earlier said something about jesse's lyrics but they are vinnies..

even though jesse is a god at writing haha.

but i thought vin deserved his credit.

he writes alot of the darker songs on deja entendu like the quiet things and sic transit gloria, and others:)

  • no nononono vin and jesse wrote the guitar for this song. jesse wrote all the lyrics on deja entendu its in the book. vin did write handcuffs tho

  • Amazing lyrics, the way he puts it together, idk there's something about his diction

  • this is by far their best song (IMO). the notes fit so perfectly together and there's nothing wrong with it at all! i recommend to anyone that if u have a bass guitar u should definitely hit up the tabs 4 this one.............................................................mmmmm......candy 2 the ears :) play it late at night when all is asleep! so good! sry i cant get over it

  • this is my favorite song ever

    and i fuckingloveit.

amd i lovveee whoever flimed it<3

  • Jesse Lacey amazes me in every way

  • I think that every1 has there own interpritations of the song. I think its about drunkenly pullin a girl at a bar and the depressing pointlessness of it all. His songs to me seem to be painfully personal and im greatful that he writes them for us.

  • I agree, it's definitely about that. Amazing song...

I think every guy will be there at some point in his life trying to "fake the way" you hold someone... trying to make it seem like it means something... In the battle between doing what you want and what's right, sleeping with a drunk girl and holding her like a lover is not a positive victory.

  • Interesting video, thanks for sharing. I had to watch this several times!

  • i agree brandnew, its all what you make it

  • so good.

  • I love all kinds of music, but Brand New is absolute my favourite, and also the best there is.

  • who cares what he says the song is about? its all about how we interpret it. thats what makes lyrics great.

  • this song was confirmed in an interview to be about NO girl. Jesse says in this song he is the girl and that the guy (the songs perspective) is the record company. It also ties to the title. Maradona and Elvis are both people whos career were going great but they lost it all and he is afraid the same would happen to him. Never take brandnew song lyrics for face value.

  • I agree with Vicious...Its more about the girl wanting to sleep with a rockstar at whatever costs..Not the girl getting drunk and the guy taking advantage of her..

  • Jesse said in an interview that the title of the song comes from a dream he had where he had this fight with Maradona and Elvis, two legends who kind of made huge messes of themselves in the latter part of their lives.

  • damn good five-star video!!

  • i can definitely see how you can interpret the song as fear of burining out, but its not the most obvious to me, and some of the lyrics don't make too much song if you use that interpretation. the comparison to elvis and maradona seems to be more about their lifestyle than the decline in their careers.

its not just about taking advantage of drunk girls either though. for one thing, i never put emphasis on her being drunk. it sounds to me much more like she just wants to sleep with a rockstar.

  • I really prefer the literal meaning of the song, it's sad. Maybe it's just cause I'm friends with too many gals that like the booze :P

  • firts of all why this song has the name of a great soccer player why can you tell meee?¿

    thanks

  • because maradona and elvis both had problems with drugs.

  • I think some people take this song off somewhere else

  • brighterwest is right.

this is why alot of people get pissed off at the 'emos' that listen to this type of music. it requires a deep thoughtful mindset.

nevertheless any fan is a good fan. this song is magical, i nearly cried when they played it in sydney =D

  • Amazing band, amazing song. I gonna drink to this song tomorrow.

Check out the music video for JESUS in Detroit.

  • you know it is possible that he's not singing about himself! i personally think the metaphorical meaning is the most realistic but if its the litteral meaning then it could just be a story!

  • who said he was talking about himself? I like the song, because it's true and it happens all the time. It goes unnoticed and unpunished because alot of ppl don't know it's wrong. And I definetly think the literal meaning is much much more realistic. Just go to a party...or college campus...anywhere really.

  • Okay, well wether you're listening to the literal meaning or the so called 'Metaphorical' meaning, I'm just trying to get my point across.

  • its not about raping a girl he uses a drunk girl as a metaphor... the song is about jesse's fear of burning out one day or not being as big as he once was... think about the title... i mean come on people your listening to brand new here you got to be more open minded

  • Actually, I agree with you brighterwest. Like you said, title is a dead give away (and really, who would want to come off sounding like the ass of the world?) But when I listen to the song its totally for the literal meaning. I find that more relatable than life in the music industry.

  • Just to let everyone know...taking advantage of a drunk girl IS rape. Anyone who is drunk cannot give consent, and without consent it's rape. Look it up.

  • this is true

  • Are you all that dumb? This song is about taking advantage of a drunk girl, yes. Not about raping anyone. He sings about "using all ur looks trying hard to be cute" ... "you fall for every empty word I say". It's a bloody groupy, nothin' more. She wants to get fucked by a rockstar. She drank and thought she had to do somethin' to get laid. He says some 9 to 5 phrases and jackpot baby, girl's gettin laid.

  • so guys... jesse lacey looks a bit like alexander hamilton. that is all. kthxbai

  • the song is actually about bob saget.

  • bob saget lol

  • lmao KDO's comment made me piss myself

  • i try :)

and ocelot600 and always6or7, though i agree with both of you that some of these interpretations are pretty ridiculous, it's still pointless and a bit rude to call people potentially hurtful names. we're all people here behind our usernames. no need to try to bring anyone else down.

  • As a personal interpretation, i'd say it was about a guy and a girl seeking revenge on cheating partners

"And they're scared that we know all the crimes they'll comit"

"You can sin or spend the night all alone"

  • I got desperate desires and unadmirable plans

My tongue will taste of gin and malicious intent.

A sober straight face, gets you out of your clothes

Barely conscious in the door where you stand

I almost feel sorry for what I'm gonna do

    You're a drunk

    And your scared

Its ladies night, all the girls drink for free.

How could this not be about raping a drunk girl?

  • I'm with you garrett.

With a stretch I'll say they could both be using each other...but my initial thought was that he was taking advantage of the situation. I kind of like that interpretation best because you almost never hear songs that are so honest and unapologetic in that way.

  • It is more about taking advantage of a drunk girl...

  • saw them live in vancouver and they were amazing

  • awesome

  • great performance. his vocals are perfect, never off key and sound just like they do on the record.

  • yeah ocelot600 is right...you guys are all really fucking retarded if you couldnt figure that out haha

  • We all have our interpritations of what this song means. It's a good song, one of my favorites. If it's that big of a deal just ask them

  • Ha I think this song is about frustration with the whole stupid way we conduct relationships, and jesse is saying how its all just a bit pointless going out, getting drunk and pulling some random.

  • chr putas :D

  • This song is about the music industry but there is an admission that he is part of the problem.

  • you know what? i think this song is about taking advantage of a drunk girl, i mean fuck me listen to the words its obvious, all this shit about metaphors is people reading to far into it. douchebags

  • 1. i was kidding

    2. JK880715, you're thinking of "good to know that if i ever need attention all i have to do is die." if i were you, i'd be really embarrassed!!!

  • He looks like the Brother of Eliza Dushkin on Bring It On...

  • I think Jesse said it was about the music industry taking over the band in an interview with mtv... I would have never knew what the lyrics were meant to mean if he didn't say it, and i respect scotmacrae comment but i think that's the way jesse interpretates it...

  • So you actually don't understand Jesse's words on your own like you said? lol.

  • JK880715 you're close, but wrong.

it's about the banning of international trade :(

    the drunk girl is china

and the guy taking "her" out is america.

everything else is a metaphor for eating even when you're full, because you're at your favorite restaurant and you hate left-overs.

nobody understands jesse's words like i do :(

  • how the fuck do you know that.

  • You guys are looking to deep into his meaning of the song, plus it's HIS meaning, you're supposed to interpret the song anywhichway you want to, there's no wrong way.

  • this song is not about taking advantage of a drunk girl, underneath the words it's stating how the music industry has taken over him, so in the song the drunk girl is referring to himself and the guy who's taking advantage is the music industry, label, whatever... it's a big metaphor, could you say?

and i don't think brand new is emo, the new album certainly isn't...

  • jesse lacey is a huge fan of the smiths, in fact his song titles and lyrics closely resemble theirs; i think they're the closest i've heard to emo after 2000 (save new fugazi, etc.)

  • this is my favorite song of all time! listen to the words. REALLY listen. find your own meaning. this is a really deep song. I LOVE BRAND NEW!!!

  • this song isn't about his fear of fame, that is only the meaning behind the song's title.

  • i've been to 6 warp tours and no band has such a connection like brandnew does...i saw them live in saint louis, missouri....and these guys arent fucking emo, screamo, etc any of that stupid bull shit genre...they are bottom of the line..rock..and every song is played with complete heart and compassion...not fame

  • i always thought that 'sic transit gloria (glory fades)' was this song before he loses his innocence. This song always seems like a different point of view of the story told in 'sic tramsit gloria' where hes just drunk and tired and wants to go home, but still wants to deflower the girl in the song, as opposed to terrified and nervous ike in 'sic transit' thats just how i see it

  • this song is about a 13 year old girl

  • its about jesses fear of fame, actually. but it does sound like its about a girl.

  • WHAT? =O

  • i used to go to sleep every night listening to this song in the summer, its like being in a really weird state of mind, happy but sad, yet i feel calm and i get goosebumps. and you know your good when you can send a shiver up my spine. and oh my god i just heard the all the crimes they'll committ and oh my orgasm much! he totally sound aroused! turn me on much!

  • What are you on??

  • this song is amazing. they are amazinggg. i want to die listening to them.

  • has anyone got any good tabs for this song!? f'in love it, but cant find no decent ones!!

  • I figured this song out on my own, and looking at what Jesse plays in this video, I'm pretty sure it's spot-on. Tell me if you want me to type up some tabs for you.

  • hey man, Id love to see your tabs for this song. Id appreciate it. Thanks.

  • yeah its freaken annoying when they sing along >.<

  • Effin awesome. Saw them on 4/20 in Providence, but they messed up this song. He played it again though. I just wish sometimes people could shut up at a show for once. :P

  • IVE SEEN THEM LIKE 4 TIMES ALREADY...THEY ARE JUST SO DAM GOOD....

  • his voice sounds so lovely when he says "and they're scared that we know all the crimes they'll commit."

i can't wait until i see them in 20 days or so.
