  • i dont know if you have ever dealt with jeeps or not but i have an 04 liberty. and the window goes up and down by the use of a corkscrew type thing inside a plastic tube. the tube is broken so now the window wont go down on its own. it goes up with no problem but wont go down. is there an easy way to replace it?

  • silicon paste,,DO NOT USE GREACE !!!!

    GOT IT!

heeding to get me a silicon paste,,, thanx Eric!

  • That was a great video. Have a 96 EX sedan and the window has been driving me nuts. Replaced the regulator and switch. Still sucks. Can't wait to try this. How much was the new channel from Honda?

  • Fixed my 98 Civic using your method! Driver's side window had come out of the window run, and the passenger side was very slow to open/close. I thought it was the regulator/motor. Not cheap to fix at the dealership (did that once a few years ago). Bought some of the silicone paste you mention, took the windows out, cleaned the window runs(luckily did not have to remove them) and applied the silicone paste. I wish I would have taken a video of the difference. It's like they are brand new!

  • Thank you very much for this incredibly informative video. I was actually looking for videos related to an overheating issue with my 97 accord that may or may not be completely solved (radiator fan motor was bad but there may be another issue) and found this in the process. I now know, thanks to this video, that my window problem is exactly what you covered here and now I feel comfortable enough to tackle it myself. Thanks man.

  • @Tarheeels4life Sweet. BTW I did a video on Solving Overheat Problems if that helps. Thanks for the comment.

  • Hi Eric,

You mentioned that the actuator on Honda often need replacing. What normally goes bad with it? Are the actuator and the motor one part? Is there a fuse or a relay that's a part of the motor circuit? Thanks.

  • @avsdavidt1 The regulator and motor are all one piece and there really isn't much else to go wrong as far as the moving parts go, switches sometimes but mostly regulators from what I've seen. Many manufacturers use this cable type of design these days and they often break as a result.

  • My windows are very sluggish, like something is clogged or in the way. Do you think spreading some silicon paste around the window run will help? Thanks for this and other informative videos.

  • @avsdavidt1 I think you should inspect the window run to make sure it's not bound up or the window is not inserted in it properly, if the above are good then lube with silicone PASTE and recheck.

  • Thanks so much for this video eric my car had the same exact problem and now I know how to fix it thanks to you man all ur videos an accords have help a bunch thanks so much you the man eric the car guy

  • @joisais Your most welcome, I'm happy to help. Thanks for your comment.

  • hey i see some poeple that tint windows take this out, can this cause wind noise afterwards.

  • @fkobama1 Honestly I see more windows get messed up because of window tint or the installation of window tint that I don't recommend getting tinted windows.

  • hey got a prob was putting a new pw motor in but I let my window glass go all the way in can you help me get it back up

  • @jubei455 Nope, arms aren't long enough but if you watch this video I show how the glass goes in there.

  • is it ok to use CRC Synthetic Brake Caliper Grease because no auto store in my area selling silicone paste and they have no clue?

  • @lakayyak If it's silicone based yes, if it's petroleum based I don't recommend it, if not you can find silicone paste online, just google it.

  • realfixesrealfast had a similar video not too long ago. I like yours as well.

  • @mrjost55 I love his work, Duane is great.

  • Thanks for this wonderfully informative video. Got my '97 Accord fixed up good. Couldn't have done it without your help.

  • @tuckmobile My favorite kind of comment, thanks for posting.

  • Thanks for this wonderfully informative video. Got my '97 Accord fixed up good. Couldn't have done it without your help.

  • THANKS FOR THE VIDEO

For years Ive been trying different methods to fix my dry run

channels, grease, sprays, dry lubricants, nothing work. The glass would jump off track often and at the wrong time and places!. SO went out to the local napa and bought a can of 3m silicone paste , applied it and my windows run like a charm. Seriously thanks.

Also Id like to add, to any one doing this , that now would be the time to lube up the regulator.

  • @paradien Great to hear I'm happy to help. I don't recommend lubing the regulator or it might be better to say I think it's a waste of time as what mostly goes bad is the cable snaps whether you lubricate it or not. Thanks for the comment.

  • @EricTheCarGuy On the 93 Accord the driver door and front passenger door regulators dont run on cables like the 97 Accord in the video, but rather a scissor like mechanism with rollers.

  • @paradien That is actually a much better mechanism, I still would not lubricate it but rather lubricate the run channels with silicone paste.

  • arent you supposed to disconnect the battery for electric work?

  • @tymebomb60 This circuit is dead with the key off but even if you had it on it would not harm anything at least in my experience. You are correct that with some electrical work you want to disconnect the battery before you start the work.

  • 30 minutes of my life that was fun and informative. Excellent video! Now for a short rant... On Renaults they don't bother with a vapour shield. No Sir! They wrap up the connectors for the windows in foam. Also the regulators. So, when it rains, the regulator or switching gets drenched and corroded. This is bad. Because the whole shebang is CAN Bus controlled (why!?), the computer throws a fit and drops the window. It sits in the one position you can't unclip it. And you get pissed on fixing it.

  • @davelowe1977 That doesn't sound like any fun at all. Thanks for the comment.

  • can i use wd-40 instead of silicone paste? and spray

  • @EricTheCarGuy as usual ur the man

  • as usual ur the man!!!

  • Another great video ! thanks alot , just one question for u Eric ! an air leakage from passenger door ! do u things changing window run channel will fix it ? thanks

  • @zacko781 I really can't say, look for damage in the rubber like this one had, if you find it then it's likely to be the cause, if not it's probably something else.

  • Do you have any other words to describe silicon paste? I cannot find it on ebay.

Great video. Only addition I can make is to ensure the vapor sheet is still sealed across the bottom, some cars will leak unless this is perfect!.

  • @andrewthompsonuk1 Thanks for the tip. As for the silicone paste you can find it online, not on ebay, just google silicone paste and you should come up with some, the stuff I've always used is from 3M and works great.

  • Acura Integra Window Rattle Fix? I know Team-Integra has a few solutions: To take out the entire window guide or to reglue a new rubber piece in.

    Your solution?

  • @3000MilesOfPavement Yea that was pretty common actually, they have a 2 piece design and the bottom piece would often end up in the bottom of the door. The silicone paste in the run channel does wonders for that problem, I've never glued one back in though because I didn't have to, the silicone was all that I needed.

  • another great video!!! honda + ETCG IS AN AWESOME COMBO!!!

  • @diulaylomochohai Thanks man, glad you liked it.

  • eric, you are the zen master of honda repair. Stuff like all the little tips on how not to break all the parts on the door is what sets you apart from the rest. I would love to see more simple body repair videos like this in the future.

  • @petergriffintubin1 I plan on making more, thanks for your comment.

  • would this be the same for the coupes notice they have a separate guide on the window itself like a small metal circular thing...my rubber window run channel looks pretty shot....btw where can I get the silicone spray and silicone paste?

  • @MansuDC2 They are very similar yes. As for silicone paste you can look on line but most auto parts stores have the spray.

  • @EricTheCarGuy Thanks...

  • Eric, what is the difference between silicone spray and silicone paste?

Is there any difference in the silicone spray if it is wet or dry?

  • @jsc195 For this job it's everything, if you try and use the spray to lubricate the tracks it will dry up and cause the window to shudder during operation. The spray has a 'working time' before it's not effective anymore, the paste lasts a lot longer.

  • DO A VIDEO ON HOW TO REPLACE A WINDOW REGULATOR BUT HERE THE TRICK WHAT IF YOU CAN NOT MOVE THE WINDOW UP OR DOWN BY THE MOTOR TO REMOVE THE WINDOW WHAT DO YOU DO.

  • @MileyCyrus192 You do it just the way I show in this video but you take the motor/regulator loose from the door panel and move it till you can get to the fasteners, if that doesn't work cut the cable and you can put the window wherever you want.

  • @EricTheCarGuy ok so basically try and get the motor loose first before removing the window from the regulator

  • @MileyCyrus192 Yea, that will help a lot.

  • @EricTheCarGuy many videos I see on youtube people with working motor lower their window first before taking the window out.. But I can remove the motor first before the window.

  • Great video! I had actually wondered how hard it would be to remove the window and now i know...easier than removing the door panel. ;)

    Thanks!

  • @BizarrEftersmak On this car yes, on others not so much sometimes. Thanks for the comment.

  • silicone paste...second only to beer in awesomeness.

  • @TypeGdizzle I like that.

  • if you want to keep a fastener in a socket, use a broken peice of a speaker magnet on the socket or a flexible magnet :))

  • @foxdmulder That works too, thanks for the suggestion and comment.

  • Ok question? You said I can get away with adding some of the silicone paste/spray

Would I just put it in the channel? Thanks.

  • Another great video, Eric. Say, how do you know it's the window channel stripping, rather than the weatherstipping around the door causing excess noise?

  • @spelunkerd Visual inspection, it was pretty obvious on this one as it is with others that I've repaired with the same problem. You can sometimes use tape to seal off suspected areas as well.

  • @ 23:26

    lmfao

  • A couple of suggestions. Use a good vinyl/rubber protectant and spray/wipe down the new rubber before you put it in, then apply your silicone paste. Makes it last longer and the protectant will also help the window slide easier. A heat gun or blow dryer is very helpful to soften the adhesive (be careful a heat gun can melt the plastic).

BTW, the barrier is there for sound deadening/wind noise reduction as well as keeping moisture from contacting the door panel. Thanks for the vid.

  • @eleeter Thanks for the tip and for the comment.

  • Great video, those vapor barrier are a pain on some cars. I use a sharp razor/knife against the body and cut the adhesive. Looking forward to your next vids.

  • @techstoney That's exactly what I do when I'm not too lazy to roll over to my tool box, thanks for the comment.

  • @techstoney That's exactly what I do when I'm not too lazy to roll over to my tool box, thanks for the comment.

  • Great demo and you make it so easy. I'm sure the window part is harder.

  • @netman88 Not really, it's just one more step really. Thanks for the comment.

  • lmao at ETCG fail part. Awesome video as always! :D!!

  • hey, i know this is random, but i just was wondering what would happen if i took out the intake resonator in my 95 civic d15b7... i have a short ram intake right now... should i do it?

  • @brandonlinsangan Sure go for it but keep in mind the engine can only displace so much air naturally, if you want to get more air in you need to force it with a turbo or supercharger.

  • @EricTheCarGuy but what would happen if i took it out? doesnt it feed air to the air filter on my short ram?

  • @EricTheCarGuy and woulndt it be louder without it?

  • I can comfirm that the older Accords(3rd gen in this case) had screws on the bottom, i can remember having to replace a side mirror on my old accord and rehooking the power connections for it back up

  • OK !!! Now can you of all people , respond to a honest question and help me and others with some help ?

I have a ke55 corolla in mint condition and i want to keep it that way . Although i have a little problem with the brakes nothing dramatic just sqeeking , wich i am guessing is a need of new pads . But thats not what im after as such , can you give me a break down on problems to look out for in brakes , suspension ( leafs ), diff and trans. Are You Up For The Challenge !!!

  • @pimpmyforklift Huh? Go to Eric's channel and see videos on each of your questions. Are you up for the challenge? The more effort you put in to this, the more you get out.

  • @pimpmyforklift Not in a comment, it would be better to make videos as I prefer that to typing all day.

  • Another great vid eric but I got a good idea for you for those pop off pieces that hide the screws so they will not go flying. Take a towel or rag and poke a tiny little hole in it and line the hole up with it and pop it off and it wont fly anywhere but into the rag or towel

  • @iTzCorky Thanks for the suggestion, normally they don't pop out like that but I'll keep that in mind for next time.

  • I REALLY dont feel like taking the whole door off just to lube up my windows ( thats all thats wrong with them) Can i just roll the window down and spray some silicone spray in the the running track???

  • @Ryandavis33 Spray won't work, you need to use the paste, you could just lube the parts you can get to and see if that helps but it would be better to get the lubrication all the way down.

  • Just like to say that your videos are enjoyable to watch. I recently discovered your channel about a month ago and got hooked ever since, watching your videos helped me understand the inner workings of a car and gives me the confidence to fix basic things myself in the future, plus the fact that you're are cool guy and explain things very clearly.

Well anyways keep up the good work!

  • @evoGage Welcome aboard and thank you very much for that comment, it means a lot to me when my work helps others.

  • thats a good tip, never thought of it. Thanks!

  • hey eric do you think dielectric grease would work in place of the silicone paste. It shouldn't react badly with the rubber. reason I'm asking is because I can't find it in stores and it is expensive stuff.

  • @hobieslug45 You can find it on line fairly cheep and you can use it for more than just window runs, you can also use it for lubricating caliper slides.

  • Another good video. Laughed at the ETCG Fail. Made me think, you should do a vidoe of fails and outtakes. Thanks.

  • @fatrat440 I might do that at some point, perhaps at ETCG's next birthday.

  • @EricTheCarGuy Fails are one of the best ways to learn, especially with those plastic clips that break before you understand how they work. I love the way you show corrections in real time.

  • does sil glyde count as grease? since thats what we use at our shop

  • @TheDennyvu I looked that up and it's petroleum based not silicone based and as a result will degrade the rubber which is also petroleum based.

  • Hi Eric, this may sound like a silly question, but what does a vapor barrier do? Obviously something with vapors of some kind but when I replaced the window regulator on that old toyota p/u I had, the barrier ripped. I thought about using a Hefty bag & some 3M Gorilla snot & at the last second said "ahhh screw it"

  • @Michiganborn1969 Believe it or not when it rains it leaks inside the door where the window meets, there are drain holes in the bottom of the door to allow the water to escape, the barrier is there to keep the moister out of the passenger compartment.

  • @EricTheCarGuy

lmao. I almost don't believe it because I thought that's what the rubber weather strip was for :D

Anyway I sold that truck last year & the other guy I'm sure found out since we just got done with our rainy season.

  • Thanks for another great video. I like the whole first person kinda view.

I wish they'd made an SE version of this generation Accord. That would have been sexy.

  • Hi Eric, sorry for the off-topic question but: I have someone asking me to check out their car: a 2001 Infiniti I30 which will only run when the throttle is fully open. My first guess is fuel press. reg. due to possible flooding, but apparently the reg. was replaced, and it still wont run. My next guess would be the I.A.C.....whattya think? I'm just trying to get some idea where to start looking....

  • @nightmathzombieethan See if you have any check engine lights, look for fuel injectors that might be leaking, you can do this with a fuel pressure gauge attached, after you turn the key on then off the fuel pressure should hold, if it doesn't there is a leak somewhere. There are also quite a few other things to check but first to mind is for a vacuum leak.

  • @aeligos It's tough work in VW's for sure, Honda's are actually quite easy in my opinion.

  • nice video been curious about this, liked your tip on power screwdrivers makes it a lot easier to take off interior trim

Maybe you could do a video on weird bolt heads torx e-torx etc.

  • @hateercenor That sounds like a plan, thanks for the comment.

  • @EricTheCarGuy Yeah I really like the idea of the E-Torx video.

I've called up MULTIPLE tool stores like Harbor Freight asking if they had E-Torx sockets and they all had no clue what I was asking. Finally I bought a really nice (and f-ing expensive) socket set, which included E-Torx, impacts, gear wrenches, etc. I loved it... it only took me a month to find.

  • @4G63PWR Lisle sells an external torx set for around 30 bucks. Lisle part number 26280 just FYI.

  • I let my GF apply the spray and lube..

    Good video Eric, thanks

  • FYI If you're replacing the window regulator avoid the aftermarket ones from China. I spent hours fighting one before I bought one from the Honda dealer.

  • @paxilill I could not agree with you more, thanks for the comment.

  • great video, looks like a lot of tedious work. Makes me glad i have manual windows.

  • @americantractors Actually you can knock this out in about 15 min, it's pretty straightforward.

  • @americantractors Actually you can knock this out in about 15 min, it's pretty straightforward.

  • @americantractors Actually it's quite the opposite. With manual windows you'll spend more time trying to get that window handle retainer clip off with a rag if you don't have the special release tool.

  • Good video, Eric. I wonder how much that would run you at a shop. My friend has the same accord with the same problem, but i doubt the cost to repair is worth the amount of the car haha.

  • @mazzmari You might try lubing the tracks with the silicone paste first, it normally works pretty well.

  • I wish my 96 Accord Coupe windows were that fast. But definitely going to buy some of those silicone paste and give it a go! Learned something new today, thanks Eric!

  • @HONDAxACURA That is the best stuff for it really, I think you will get a good result.

  • lol your EricTheCarGuy shirt is all dirty all ready.

  • @EndlessT That's what it's made for. :)

  • How many times can you say fastener in one video?! Geez

  • @saleenonly As many as I can. :)

  • can i reuse the old one and lube it? my driver side window is really moving slow,

  • @wangbungal The first step I usually take is to lube it with the silicone paste, I replaced this one because of a wind noise.

  • thanks for guiding me along the way eric a little window humor for you what's up with all these import's you work on anyways it's all good just busting chops i own a 2003 tj jeep i gotta hit up advance adapters my linkage is acting up will we see any american cars in the future oh can i buy merch at your website later dude take it easy fella

  • @ibondwithmydog I work on plenty of American stuff and more every day including Jeeps but for the most part I will admit that I'm a Honda expert so that is what shows up the most. Thanks for the comment.

  • folks it a good idea to unplug your dome light bulb during this type of a job. then plug it right back it when finished.

  • @gearheadAbe You could also flip the ON/OFF switch but good suggestion.

  • goood video, thanks

  • Great job!

  • Hey Eric, I hope either you or someone here can help me with this... I have a 2005 Mazda 3 with an (I think) unique problem. I'll be driving on streets (not highway) and my AC will suddenly turn off. Not just blow warm, but the light on the AC button will turn off. I've also had it where it won't turn on immediately after starting the engine for almost 5 minutes. Any help anyone could give would be much appreciated.

  • @ViperKillerWannabe Sounds like an electrical issue, your going to need a good wiring diagram and a working knowledge of the system to solve that one I think.

  • So Eric, what's up with the slow window operation that you said you'd fix at 1:02 min?

  • @trunitemare Most sluggish windows on Hondas are caused by excessive friction between the glass and the run channel. Replacing the channel and lubeing the track fixed it.

If you don't want to replace the run channel squirt a little silicone grease on the left and right sides.

Sure replacing the channel is the proper repair but if monies tight this will prevent your windows from traveling at a snails pace when you close them. If you are replacing the channel use the paste as stated.

  • @Bushougoma Thanks a lot buddy. Should I use the paste or the spray (I don't plan on removing the channel)?

  • @trunitemare You won't be able to get the paste where it's really needed. Inside the channel on the door frame. The spray will be spread by the glass to the bottom by working the window back and fourth.

Put the hose on the spray can stick it in the channel and spray from top to bottom on each side then aim downward into the frame and give it a spray also.

Work the window up and down a few times to spread it.

  • @trunitemare It's faster with the engine running, the battery was going dead.

  • eric we need these videos in HD!!

  • @KillerZero259 They are loaded up as 960x540 which is technically HD but YT doesn't seem to see it that way, just trying to save space on my hard drive, I shoot a LOT of video.

  • that slow motion part made me laugh for some reason haha

  • @LarryDavidFreak It was suppose to, thanks for the comment.

  • Di I hear the windows error sound at 19.42?

  • @mopedman666 Probably my phone ringing or something, it could have been some noise from outside, the shop is close to a church that has a bell that goes off every hour.

  • I think I learned more on this vid then some of the more complex ones GREAT VID thanks

  • why is the window still slow

  • @920gamez It's faster with the engine running, the battery was getting low.

  • One time I changed the regulator on my car and I left the rod that connects to the door handle on (BMW's the rod is flexible) so I didn't realize that I had left it behind the vapor barrier so I had the panel and everything back together until I realized I could not open the door from inside. So I had to take everything apart. I put it all back together and go to adjust my mirror and you probably know what happened next. Once again I had to remove everything. I was close to pulling my hair out

  • I've taken hundreds of doors apart to the empty shell but never put one together. KEWL.....TNX I'm a dismantler by the way;-)

  • @im10pplok We all need a hobby, thanks for the comment.

  • On felt window tracks like my 2000 Taurus has, what kind of lubricant do you suggest using on them? Dry silicone? Great video BTW! Now I know what to do on my sister's Accord...and no rivets to deal with like on my car.

  • @Duratec86 I would still use the silicone paste, I've used it on that type before and it works pretty well.

  • loved the vid wish someone had told me about the spray n lube i just used the spray n it worked but just not as easy as u made it seem keep em comin man

  • hey eric great video, was wondering this for some time now, how come you never seem to fix or service diesel cars???? is there not many diesels in america??

  • @jpshomevideos there really isnt many, the main one are vw tdi. Most diesels in america are trucks or big rigs

  • @jpshomevideos most of them are VW or Volvo

  • @jpshomevideos I really don't see too many diesels here in the US, I hope to cover them in the future though because I've had a lot of requests, I could stand to learn a thing or 2 about them myself so I think that would be fun.

  • Nice work Eric!! Keep em coming!!

  • i replaced the window regulator on my 99 buick century. it was really easy. i didnt know that windows come out that easy. 12:00

  • @AGreedyTree Look at it like this, the less time it takes them to make the car the more money they make.

  • Hey man I own a standard 96 accord, and just recently when I start the car up in neutral its revs to about 2000 rpm then back down to 1000 and keeps doing it over and over. I mean the car drives perfectly once I shift into first and so on, it's just this is like the biggest annoyance and at red lights people think im an asshole when in reality im not actually reving my engine purposely. Any suggestions to what this might be?

  • @gman0616 Vacuum leak.

  • @gman0616 Watch the video I did on solving Honda idle problems for starters and do not adjust the FITV valve until you have exhausted all other possibilities presented in the video. Good luck.

  • @EricTheCarGuy thanks a lot man problem fixed turns out it was a vacuum leak

  • need to get the silicon paste, tried the spray and no luck......window still goes up crooked.......new regulator and motor, but not new seal......1990 accord.

  • @jeepers2655 Spray will not work on the window side, you need the paste. Good luck.

  • @EricTheCarGuy .....I used the paste and works great now!......thanx.

  • I have the exact same effing problem on my 97 Accord. The slow window has been an issue for about 7 years now.

How much should a job EXACTLY like this cost? I do not unfortunately have the time to do it myself.

  • @dmcculloughuconn I would just get some silicone paste and try and lube the inside of the run first, it may just cure the problem.

  • Comment removed

  • I like the countdown XD

  • one last comment... is there an upstairs to your shop ? cant help but notice all the plumbing coming out the roof
