  • Trey made sure he didn't mess up the beginning :). Love this song.

  • I like to listen to this song.

  • I love it when bands do requests even when the song requested is one they've never played before. BRAVO

  • or they took their name from philo in philosophy and the sh in chit

  • @somedudecro though they are my favorite band, was just a joke... go go go phish and phishheads

  • little does anyone know but they made there name by takeing the "phi" from phil and "sh" from lesh ultimately makign the word phish :D

  • Worden26, little does anyone know that because it is absolutely not true, Trey has said on film that the name comes from Fishman's nickname of 'Fish.' He says something like, "if I was at a Phish show I'd be watching Fish."

  • you are correct my sir, but i think worden26 was just joking.

  • Big Dead Head, and long time PHISH phan.

PHISH is super on point: saw Red Rocks, Festie 8,Philly,Albany,MSG

Me and Mama are from Vegas and flew for EastCoast PHISH tour with NO regrets what so EVER: They really NEVER cease to AMAZE and SUPRISE me

Also saw FURTHER in Oakland and ALSO had a really GREAT f*cking time with FAMILY and I must add they rocked the FOX, I mean we OWNED that joint 4 sure.

There should be NO debate as both ROCK and BOTH are worth going to see!!!!

  • @Worden26 thats a good conspiracy, and for all we fans know, it could be right. but...i have read a couple books and have 6 dvds now of phish...and ide say it came from the nickname of fishman. it makes alot more sense. i dont think they got as into their name as Jim Morrison got into Mr Mojo Risin (he used the same letters of his name) prolly on another plain of thought

  • @Worden26, In: Phish the Biography (Parke Puterbaugh, 2010) the band confesses the name came from the sound of a snare roll or an airplane taking off, or phhhssssshhhh. But Phish was an easier way to spell it. It also had the nice links to Fishman and Phil Lesh to confuse people.

  • the scene is simular thats my opinion...phish in my opinion is simply hypnotic ... they almost got me to drop my job and everything trippin out on waste your time from billy breathes

  • phish is not past their prime @honuman39. they've evolved and trey has (with his writing partners) refreshed his topic references.

sure wish i wasnt 10 during the 90s though, yes i was 10 years old for 10 straight years...

  • Dont compare, who gives a shit, they both rock, Jerry is dead, Trey is alive and killin shit........wake up and go see phish!

  • i read once that mike often has a picture of phil on his bass cabinet

  • and for Hipster 420, I don't find the jamming all that similar between the Dead and Phish. The Dead do not have the intensity that Phish has and the drumming from Fishman is significantly more focused as it propels the music. You're seeing Phish in October and I'm sure it will be a good show however the band is past it's definitive years. Had you seen them in the 90's I doubt you could compare the two bands easily listening to the songs. Again jamming is one thing, the music is another.

  • The only thing the Dead & Phish have in common is improvisation. I think the music is way different. Although Phish plays some bluegrass and americana stuff they do fugues and general musical weirdness I never hear from the Dead. Also Phish actually practices. The Dead always seemed to be teetering on the edge of musical collapse. I've only seen them live once and a few dvd concerts. Love the music & they have moments but overall Phish are much better musicians. I'll await the haters.

  • You're obviously entitled to your opinion. I completely disagree with you. Musical weirdness, bluegrass, americana? I think you need to listen to a little more Dead before making a statement like that. You're right, there is no comparisson to the two bands besides they both jammed, but to say that one band is full of better musicians is a gross statement. I'll give phish the vocals, that's about it.

  • I didn't really characterize the Dead's music that well. When I mentioned bluegrass and Americana I didn't mean that those styles were necessarily the Dead's music style but there is a rootsy blues rock/country quality that underlies much of what I heard. While I've never been a true deadhead I definitely love their music and have listened to their albums often. Could be that Phish came along around my time of heavy music listening that I prefer them.

  • That is true, the Grateful Dead definitely have thier roots in the Folk genre. I really don't think the two bands should be compared at all. they are two incredible bands that get bunched together because they are equipt to jam for 20 minutes on a song and keep the listener engaged the whole time. I think the "musical collapse" you mention is part of what makes the dead the dead. They are each fingers doing their own thing, on the same hand, and that hand is working towards an ultimate goal

  • Right on, same here!

  • I LOVE PHISH!

  • I have to agree...the Dead (seen em 87 times) and Phish (seeing em for my first time in Oct, Phish 8 wooot!) DO have similar jams...Phish sounds a bit more jazz influenced where the Dead is more blugrassy ..maybe??...BUT the important thing is the type of energy they and the crowd produce...happy,fun,dancing,carefree bliss...When it all came together there really was nothing like a Dead show..I'm really hoping Phish's shows have that same energy ;- )

  • Same exact energy. And I am so happy that it is. Two different bands but the same type of crowds makes it a blast.

  • GOING to SHORELINE TOMORROW!!!!!!!!! WOOOOOT, love the new SONG!

  • lol phish is deprogessing dude you got it all wrong phish is progressive music most of the shit in the mainstreem is deprogressive; you prolly sit around listing to depressing or hardcore shti andwonder why your life is so hard fukn rich kid in the burbs wearing black nail polish or some shit

  • that was such a sick show. 2nd night was even better! i love this song. only time turns elastic kinda blows.

  • im not a big phish fan but i do like them, fee is my fav

  • woke up singing this song this morning!!! ha!!

  • damn their new album is gonna be SICK!! SEE U ALL AT SAVE THE DATE!!!!!! HALLOWEENIE!!!!!!! probably gonna be in VT! 20 hour drive for me!

  • Wow...this definitely sounds like The Dead. Another reason I love it.

  • it doesnt sound like the dead at all... rofl. the dead is totally different. The Dead is all good vibes mellow music. They can jam but they don't do these kind of jams... your retarded kid. go buy another dead shirt to make yourself feel special

  • Alright, I guess I can't voice my opinion on here. I'm a long time Dead fan and in my opnion I feel this jam has a similar feel to it. It's not like I'm forcing you to agree with me. I thought music was about love not hate. I'm terribly sorry I offended you. Jesus. Peace all.

  • ok first off, just because i listen to the music doesn't mean i have to act like a hippy and preach peace and love 24/7. im not trying to be an asshole but its not an opinion. the dead and Phish DO NOT SOUND ALIKE

  • ....I'm just gonna say you're right to end this on a good note. Again, I apologize. Later, buddy.

  • u ar e the ret ard if u cant hear the similarities u clearly dont even understand what phish does or the dead did done with music

  • go post another unnecessarily hostile comment over someones opinion(not that far off the mark btw) to make yourself feel special. you clearly need more of a cheerin up.... douche

  • then why did you watch a video of it on youtube?

  • cause i dont knock music without listening to it first, i hate people who say a band sucks n have never listened to them

  • how is this music deprogessing music? its been around since the 1960's... and just cause you don't like it means it fucking sucks? real mature and such a great argument.

  • rofl so why are you watching it, fool

  • PHISH HALLOWEEN 2009

  • Their new songs really do kick ass especially Kill Devil Falls, Ocelot, and Alaska. I'll see everyone at Red Rocks!

  • Couldn't agree more, people who are hating on phish's new stuff need to open up to it, change isn't bad. But my personal favorite is light. Have a safe and happy tour everyone!

  • The purple and yellow light wash is CK5's signature.

  • ROCKING !!

Glad to see Phish back in action!

    More new songs please!

  • i 'm in love.

  • chris is on the summer tour...

  • is that CK5? i heard hes not touring with them??

  • Actually I've been trying to figure this out myself... I know he did the Hampton shows, I was pretty sure this was his work too, but someone else also mentioned him not being with them anymore so I'm not sure. Anyone shed some light?
