i was 1 of the cadets helping out there...it woz ok..the reason they shut it downw oz becuz of the parking...it woz 2 busy for the police 2 get the cars out..on the other hand very gud show all the cadets that went got to have a little private air show and meet some of the pilots
yep, this year its going to be a huge washout....hey and it was. perhaps it is time this event was planned for December or something, at least the weather might be better! Global warming! which part of the globe is that then??...nice vid tho
This year it WAS canceled! I was there so I know. 200 quid, 16 gallon of petrol and 3 days in the rain... was it worth it? Oh, yes! We got there early on Friday, so we got to see all the display practice without the crowd in the way! All I can say about the Raptor is.. damn! That thing is awesome!
Yep, same here - little trip down from Bury, Manchester only to find out about the cancellation late Saturday night. I've been going since 1988 but only Sat or Sun - so what's the score with this Friday thing - can you get into the show ground on the Friday or is it just viewing from the car park?
No, you can't get in unless you're a FRIAT member, which is WAY overpriced, in my opinion. But if you camp at Church Farm or Kempsford then half the display is directly over you either way and you can see the rest just as well as from the crowdline. I'd recommend Kempsford, as it's a lot cheaper, but either is good. We'll defo be there next year, as usual. Bummer about the cancellations, but you can't control the weather and it WAS a swamp on there.
Although you can't control the weather, there should have been a 'wet weather plan'.
How about clearing half of the 'static' area and use this for parking. Surely that would have been better than cancelling the entire event, and I'm sure that they would have done this if the queen's visit depended on it !!!!!
I for one am £300 out of pocket (hotel accommodation that will not get refunded).
It's time the organizers of RIAT started to plan from 'car-parking' upwards not from F16 down.
I agree with you about the parking. If they'd done nothing but Mo-Mat the access 'roads' down the middle of each car park it would have helped tremendously, since the rest of the fields weren't THAT badly churned up.
Not a lot they could do about the flooding on the crowdline, though, really. That just needs the drainage sorting out, frankly.
Tim Prince should do the honourable thing and fall on his own sword.
The organisers had an obligation (to all those who had paid to support the event, and travelled incredible distances, at considerable expense) to ensure that there was somewhere decent to park !! I know that some enthusiasts had travelled from Germany, some from even as far as Japan !!
Planning for an event should start with 'car parking'.Afte rall, if you can't get people in, you can't have an event in the first place.
I got in but only because i am an air cadet and i was working there since wednesday but to be honest everything on the showground was shut and there was no flying but i did get to see the queen present the raf her colours. If you want to get in for free and you are between 13 and 18 join Air Cadets
hey, i can't wat until the airshow on saturday! it really is going to be spectacular. possibly the best airshow yet as there is so much instore especially as the vulcan bomber will be flying woohoo and the airbus a380 on saturday, the raptor is going to be brilliant too!!
How could you of gone to RAIT 2008 when it was cancelled.....

About £200 in our case.
